Madonna to Embark on Career-Spanning 40th Anniversary Tour

The global trek will celebrate Madonna's deep catalog of hits, sources tell Billboard.

Madonna is planning a massive 40th anniversary tour later this year with her longtime concert promotion partner and producer Live Nation and music manager Guy Oseary, sources tell Billboard.

The 64-year-old pop icon will perform music from her entire catalogue, dating back to her 1983 self-titled debut album through her most recent studio album, 2019’s Madame X. The world tour will be Madonna’s first ever career retrospective, featuring a compilation of her biggest hits across four decades of music and will reportedly include a multi-night run at the O2 in London.

“It’s going to be the biggest tour she’s ever done,” one executive familiar with her plans tells Billboard. The tour will include both stadium and arena dates, the source says, and include over-the-top production that delivers both “Material Girl” kitsch and occasionally outrageous sex appeal with plenty of show-stopping moments made for social media.

The tour buzz comes just months after Madonna released her career-spanning compilation album Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones, spanning her entire dance club career, featuring remixes by top producers including 20 rare recordings officially released for the first time. In 2021, Madonna signed a deal with Warner Music Group for an “extensive, multi-year series of catalog releases that will revisit the groundbreaking music that made her an international icon.”

Madonna last toured in 2019 and early 2020 on her Madame X tour, a theater run that was struggled through production delays and Madonna’s recurring hip and knee injuries. While the Madame X tour earned strong critical reviews in the press, its habitually late start time often angered ticket holders and prompted two class actions lawsuits from fans.

When it comes to choosing her nightly set list for this new tour, Madonna will have no shortage of songs to choose from with 57 titles charting on the Billboard Hot 100, 38 top 10 hits and 12 No. 1s, including 1990’s “Vogue,” and 2000’s “Music,” released a decade apart and each spending 24 weeks on the Hot 100. Madonna’s “Borderline” from 1984 spent 30 weeks on the Hot 100. She followed that impressive feat a decade later with the ballad “Take a Bow,” which held the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for seven weeks.

Madonna’s 2008-2009 Sticky and Sweet Tour is the highest grossing tour by a female artist ever, according to Billboard Boxscore, netting $407 million. Her most recent Madame X theater run grossed $36.4 million with 124,655 ticket sold.

Reps for Madonna could not be reached for comment at time of publishing.

Well, should I not buy tickets for this, or not buy tickets for Janet Jackson's?

Decisions, decisions.

by Anonymousreply 1January 14, 2023 4:00 AM

Will she be kicking off the tour in The Villages?

by Anonymousreply 2January 14, 2023 5:08 AM

Must she?

by Anonymousreply 3January 14, 2023 5:18 AM

Has she already laid down the soundtrack she'll be mouthing to and been fitted for the chairs she'll be carried around in? Or she'll just have a stand in and film herself for the close-ups on the video screens.

by Anonymousreply 4January 14, 2023 6:13 AM

What could go wrong!

by Anonymousreply 5January 14, 2023 6:22 AM

This will be a disaster judging by her mental state on Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 6January 14, 2023 6:32 AM

Now she won't show up three hours late, she'll show up the next day.

by Anonymousreply 7January 14, 2023 6:38 AM

This might be your last chance to see her sing live bitches!

by Anonymousreply 8January 14, 2023 6:48 AM

The bedazzled walker she'll use on stage is pretty nice.

That's quite cool R9. It could be very tongue in cheek.

by Anonymousreply 10January 14, 2023 6:51 AM

She's going to have to totally re-do herself so she no longer looks like a space alien if she's going to do this.

No one wants to see "Vogue" performed by someone who looks like Pippi Longstocking as an alien burn victim.

by Anonymousreply 11January 14, 2023 6:57 AM

R9 that’s pretty sweet looking! All it needs now is a drink holder and an iPhone mount.

by Anonymousreply 12January 14, 2023 7:19 AM

Won't get pissed when they get there and Billy Corgen walks out instead? Because that's who she's starting to look like.

by Anonymousreply 13January 14, 2023 7:40 AM

People ^^^

by Anonymousreply 14January 14, 2023 7:42 AM

"This might be your last chance to see her sing live bitches!"

That shipped sailed back in 1990.

Meh!

Lolz, 16 comments in 24 hours on a predominantly gay message board.

Madge related news really is insignificant these days.

by Anonymousreply 17January 15, 2023 6:12 PM

Oh, no...shades of "This Is It."

by Anonymousreply 18January 15, 2023 6:36 PM

R8 That'd be a remarkable change of pace, since ALL of her shows in the past two decades have been pre recorded

by Anonymousreply 19January 15, 2023 6:37 PM

South Park did a bit with Rod Stewart being wheeled out and squawking a bit. That's how I see this going.

by Anonymousreply 20January 15, 2023 6:44 PM

Isn’t every Madonna tour a career retrospective?

by Anonymousreply 21January 15, 2023 6:46 PM

You know it's gonig to sell-out probably within minutes of tix being available, but it would be HILARIOUS if it not only didn't sell-out in multiple venues, but also if videos of half-empty venues started popping up on twitter.

by Anonymousreply 22January 15, 2023 6:49 PM

[quote] This might be your last chance to see her sing live bitches!

Sing live? All the more reason NOT to go.

by Anonymousreply 23January 15, 2023 8:07 PM

She’ll show up 3 hours late and have a section where she performs totally nude. Sorry, but Madonna’s time is beyond over. She’s a fucking trainwreck. Look at her performance here.

@r24. That is really depressing. When I was in high school that woman was the future, and it pains me that she has not had a dignified progression in her career.

R28 - She should just change her name from Madonna to Medusa.

by Anonymousreply 39January 15, 2023 11:08 PM

[quote]This might be your last chance to see her sing live bitches!

The thing is R8 ....

She has never been a great singer. She is a fantastic entertainer though. She could always put on quite a show.

She just physically do that anymore. This why The Rolling Stones, U2, or the Eagles can tour until one of them drops (and maybe even keep going after that). They just sing.

She puts on a show, which includes singing, and she is just too old for that anymore.

by Anonymousreply 40January 15, 2023 11:24 PM

Well, you knew this day was coming.

"...career retrospective", my ass.

Madonna is officially a nostalgia act.

She's resisted being branded that way, but, tough toenails, and no amount of marketing semantics can disguise this.

Seriously, it's tough to see the great ones fall.

by Anonymousreply 41January 15, 2023 11:54 PM

Well, don’t ever tell me to stop!

by Anonymousreply 42January 15, 2023 11:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 53January 16, 2023 1:38 AM

Is this a joke? She looks so hammered all the time now. It’s going to be like Merle Haggard. Maybe 3 songs.

by Anonymousreply 54January 16, 2023 1:41 AM

She’s fooling us all. That last pic of her was with a mask. She’s gonna rip it all off onstage and look just like 2007!

by Anonymousreply 55January 16, 2023 1:50 AM

No thanks. I saw Whos That Girl, Blond Ambition and Girlie Show. I choose those memories over whatever disaster this will be.

by Anonymousreply 56January 16, 2023 2:08 AM

Will they be carting her around the stage on a wheelbarrow at this point?

by Anonymousreply 57January 16, 2023 2:09 AM

She will lip sync her heart out

by Anonymousreply 58January 16, 2023 2:13 AM

Bitch please. You still haven't topped The Blonde Ambition Tour and that was over 30 years and half you're current age. I guess this is madge's "This is it" Tour. Hope she lives through it.

by Anonymousreply 67January 16, 2023 4:20 AM

R24 - that was horrifying and depressing. I saw the Madame X Tour and while far from perfect, and while she was obviously already slowing down (and dealing with a knee and hip injury), she still had oodles of stage presence and managed to command the stage. But... yikes. That performance with Maluma was just horrifying. Even if you give her the benefit of it being an under-rehearsed surprise appearance, it was still painful to watch.

by Anonymousreply 68January 16, 2023 5:02 AM

She couldn’t even sell out the last one and that was just a theater tour.

by Anonymousreply 69January 16, 2023 5:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 71January 16, 2023 5:16 AM

No one wants to stand around waiting three hours for her highness to make an appearance. She really has no idea who her audience is anymore. No one can get through to her. She already said that her manager will no longer deal with her. He tells her constantly not to do shit that is going to turn into a PR disaster for her and she does it anyway. She’s a lost cause. She’ll end up dead either from drugs, an accident, or on a plastic surgeon’s table. She’s in full self-destruction mode.

by Anonymousreply 72January 16, 2023 5:20 AM

"Isn’t every Madonna tour a career retrospective?"

Madonna is one of the only artists who has never had to do most of her greatest hits or every top 10 song....That's what most older acts do.

For better or worse, and mainly, worse over the past 20 years, she has always been able to sell out and make the tour feature all her new music.

In stadium tours, about half were older songs and half were from her new album. And the older songs weren't always hits or even singles that were released. On Madame X, only 6 of the full songs were greatest hits. May have been one of the reasons she had trouble selling the theater tour--fans who like her fun pop music really hated that album. And any fans had been to her last few tours knew she would be several hours late. How many 60 year olds want to pay $400 per ticket for a concert that starts at 1030pm?

by Anonymousreply 73January 16, 2023 5:46 AM

r72 put it best - "She really has no idea who her audience is anymore"

Madonna has always found the best people working in music and absorbed them. But her desire to stay current leaves her totally adrift with her fanbase because there isn't much overlap with traditional American pop and the people she collaborates with. On Madame X, she had tracks with Maluma, Swae Lee, Quavvo and Anitta.

by Anonymousreply 74January 16, 2023 5:52 AM

Vegas residency would be best.

by Anonymousreply 75January 16, 2023 5:54 AM

I don't know who the fuck Maluma is but in that clip at R24 it looks like that guy is literally propping her up at times. She moves way to slowly too.

by Anonymousreply 76January 16, 2023 2:54 PM

Will it be sponsored by AARP?

by Anonymousreply 77January 16, 2023 3:02 PM

And yet, Grace Jones, who is older than she, is hula hooping on the stage at the Hollywood Bowl.

by Anonymousreply 78January 16, 2023 3:39 PM

Despite not having a hit in years, this tour can be huge of done correctly. She won’t be able to do much dancing

by Anonymousreply 79January 16, 2023 5:07 PM

Sex....blah....blah...sex....blah....sex.....

Never was there a more one-dimensional act in the history of music. Never. Name one act more basic than this bitch who has been flogging the same agenda for over 40 years. Fuck, she's pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 80January 16, 2023 5:19 PM

Aging is hard on everybody but she makes it look like pure hell.

The way she moves is so stiff and awkward. I’m not clear if that is due to years of being too hard on her body or just having the bad luck to age prematurely. I know people in their 70’s who move with more grace and ease.

by Anonymousreply 81January 16, 2023 5:35 PM

Maybe she was just having a bad day when she did that concert, r81. Maybe at other times she is graceful as a swan.

by Anonymousreply 82January 16, 2023 5:37 PM

I gotta say her live shows are pretty spectacular. I saw her in 1990, 1994 and 2012. If she would just get out her own way, check her ego at the door and have some respect for the audience it would go a long way. But when in Chicago in 2012 you start your show at 11:30 on a Thursday ( I was 2 seconds from leaving when the lights went down)

Kylie Minogue on the other hand puts on an amazing show and actually respects her audience. She knows how to do it.

by Anonymousreply 83January 16, 2023 5:37 PM

R81, you try walking and posing for Instagram and keeping your Majayjay in position.

by Anonymousreply 86January 16, 2023 5:46 PM

I'm telling y'all, she ain't been right since that bonk on the head from that cape-pulling stunt

by Anonymousreply 87January 16, 2023 6:02 PM

Oh God, please no - not OAP Madge, drunk and stoned out of her mind, with that weird face and horrible implants out terrorizing the world on tour.

Oh, the huge manatee!

by Anonymousreply 88January 16, 2023 6:06 PM

The big problem she will face with this tour is that she wants to be out there dancing. On Madame X she had problems (was it knee or hip or both?). And she filmed video of her in pain back stage, pushing herself to climb a ladder and then do dance moves like she was fine. and nobody would have given a shit if she just walked out or was wheeled out on stage and performed while her 15 dancers danced around behind her. But thats not what she wants to do. She wants to dance through a 2.5 hr show. So she is likely to overextend herself and then start cancelling tour dates.

by Anonymousreply 89January 16, 2023 7:03 PM

R87 I completely agree. Something happened after that fall at the O2. She went on pain medication and got hooked on Oxy or something and she still fucked up something like pain, meds or pills or something she is not in her right mind she’s addicted to pills or some thing she will never pull this off.

by Anonymousreply 90January 16, 2023 7:44 PM

Madonna was always about sex and flaunting her body, and after a certain age you just can't do that anymore because it's disgusting and makes people want to throw up. Nobody wants to see granny's titties and pussy and hear her sing about how much she loves to fuck. There's such a shelf life on being sexy and provocative, and Madonna can't do it anymore.

Stevie Nicks and Cher, who are a decade older than Madonna, can still get on a stage and not embarrass themselves because they never used sex as their main selling point.

by Anonymousreply 91January 16, 2023 8:01 PM

The Reinvention tour was 2004 and she looked so run out of ideas even then...

The only thing consistent is her humourless sourpuss and forcing sterile sex on her predominantly gay audience. I pity the sad saps who cheer and applaud every time she swears on stage or flashes her ass.

Fuck, how bereft of creativity is she.

by Anonymousreply 94January 16, 2023 10:13 PM

Those of us who were huge fans of the Madonna of the 80s and 90s are in disbelief over what a train wreck she's become.

by Anonymousreply 95January 16, 2023 10:16 PM

And those who weren't fans at all will say this was the inevitable outcome for a performer whose entire career was based on shclock tactics.

by Anonymousreply 96January 16, 2023 10:23 PM

R89 the big problem she will face is her new big plastic face that makes her resemble like the monster from SAW.

by Anonymousreply 97January 16, 2023 10:30 PM

No r96 we always thought she was smarter than this. She's now Baby Jane and it's so sad.

by Anonymousreply 98January 16, 2023 10:31 PM

What is the logic of scrubbing her instagram because of this tour announcement?

by Anonymousreply 99January 16, 2023 11:08 PM

I'm sure the tour will be making everyone lock up their phones again, lest actual footage of her flopping around gasping for air gets out.

by Anonymousreply 100January 16, 2023 11:16 PM

It's pure, entertaining, Madonna spectacle, but, it's obvious her performing peak is behind her.

by Anonymousreply 102January 16, 2023 11:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 103January 16, 2023 11:55 PM

I'm shet to open for her in Losh Angelesh!

by Anonymousreply 105January 17, 2023 2:09 AM

You know what, I'll probably snag a couple of tickets to one of the dates for old time's sake. Will go in with low expectations of what she's capable of at this stage and (hopefully) be pleasantly surprised. Honestly, if it's going to be wall-to-wall Madonna hits/classics, I think the energy that kind of setlist will foster will help mitigate the bad knees and hips, the dreadful plastic surgery and the general lack of self-awareness. She needs to fire whomever is doing her styling now (no more corsets that make her look like an overstuffed ragdoll, no more military boots. Get clothes and costumes that you can feel and look confident in, woman. And, no more improvising. You need a taskmaster of a director and choreographer because winging it is not your strength at this stage. Someone who knows how to frame you and make you channel the energy of the on stage dancers (without having to exert yourself too much.) Bring back Nikki and Donna for a couple of numbers and we're off to the races.

I bet that bitch will play Candy Shop again, no matter how many other hit songs they'll have to try to fit into a one night setlist.

by Anonymousreply 106January 17, 2023 4:02 AM

Concertgoers should buy-up all the tickets- then show-up 2 hrs. late.

by Anonymousreply 107January 17, 2023 5:15 AM

[quote]She needs to fire whomever is doing her styling now (no more corsets that make her look like an overstuffed ragdoll, no more military boots. Get clothes and costumes that you can feel and look confident in, woman.

Is there any way she can get some of the fillers in her face dissolved? To me that's the one thing that makes her look truly awful.

“This needs to stop, you look like Rocky Fucking Dennis!”

by Anonymousreply 109January 17, 2023 5:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 110January 17, 2023 6:50 AM

" I'll probably snag a couple of tickets to one of the dates for old time's sake."

It's 'fans' like R106 who have Madge acting as deluded as she is. She's been a legacy act for nigh on 30 years but this is the moment she's finally accepted it and it sticks in her craw.

Madge and her 40 year career retrospective.....cause we know the show will end with the usual Holiday encore- like she's done so many times before.

by Anonymousreply 111January 17, 2023 6:54 AM

R111 - huh? I think I'm pretty pragmatic about Madonna and what she's capable in her seventh decade. To me, the signs of aging were already very apparent in the MDNA tour in which she could appear stiff and arthritic at times. I think that's about the time she truly became a legacy act, too.

She should do some classy numbers, like Take A Bow in a beautiful full-length gown, with the platinum Marilyn wiglet, and just her singing in front of a mic with a spotlight.

Though I think she’ll just flop around like a dying fish to Like a Prayer while flicking her clit.

I hope this flops BIG.

by Anonymousreply 139January 17, 2023 5:25 PM

Here is the announcement video that is like a total parody of Truth or Dare. Lil Wayne is smoking reefer looking gross, Jack Black is being funny as is Amy Schumer who is basically boss bitch in the video. Diplo plays it cool. And Bob the Drag Queen will be the opening act on her tour simulates oral sex on a glass Evian water bottle. Stay classy! Madonna doesn’t seem detached from reality but her ugly AF hair, grill and extreme plastic surgery betrays her.

We all know she will be lip syncing every song. Who wants to actually hear her gasp and wheeze all night as she struggles across the stage? The only reason anyone is buying a ticket is so they can brag to their friends “I was there the night Madonna dropped dead on stage! And I thought it was part of her act”

by Anonymousreply 161January 18, 2023 1:09 AM

I just watched the Instagram clip where the tour gets "announced." Featuring Amy Schumer, no less. As if that is any kind of good omen.

I cannot get over how bad she looks in that clip. Her strategy seems to be to make herself seem ugly "on purpose" to distract from the fact that her face has truly become disturbing and warped by bad surgery. She resembles a toothless old gypsy crossed with Gollum from Lord Of The Rings.

Definitely slurring her words, too. If you look back at pictures of her from 2015 or 2016, she still looks okay. Aging, and there was definitely surgery happening, but she resembles herself still. What happened in the last 5 years?! I agree now that the steep decline in behavior and appearance started after hitting her head. And, like others have suggested, there is alcohol and opioid abuse.

I am guessing the inevitable home video release of this tour will have enormous amounts of filtering applied.

I can't wait until Janet Jackson has to cancel her upcoming concert series because of poor ticket sales and fan disinterest. Just like she did last time which has been heavily and factually documented here on DL. What was the excuse she used? Throat cancer? Then she refused to refund the ticket money to her fans. Remember that?

I just can't wait.

by Anonymousreply 212January 21, 2023 1:54 PM

[quote] One of my great regrets in life is missing the Blond Ambition tour.

Mine too, r212, if that's the tour documented in "Truth or Dare".

Regrets. I've had a few, and one of them was not making sure I bought a ticket to see Madonna in her young prime, and, to me anyway, that was the Madonna I saw in "Truth or Dare".

I've written this before, but, I'll do it again.

Back in the early 90s, I had a job at one of the newest, glitziest tribal casinos to open in the mid-west.

The newly hired Director of Entertainment, who came from Las Vegas, and I were talking one day.

I asked him who he would recommend I see performing on tour.

"Madonna", he said.

I must've looked surprised at his response because he was much older than what would have been her audience.

He caught that right away, laughed, and said, "I've attended a performance of her current tour. It's not my kind of music, but, I guarantee you will leave her show thoroughly entertained. She works her ass off for her audience and she's widely respected in the industry for her work ethic."

I have no dog in this fight. I hope she puts on a good show and all the people who go have a great time.

My own feelings about it are summed up by Abraham Lincoln (in response to an author who was fishing for a compliment about their book): [italic]"For people who like that sort of thing, that is about the sort of a thing they would like."[/italic]

by Anonymousreply 216January 21, 2023 4:16 PM

For the person who said they look forward to Janet cancelling dates due to sales.....Weird to be rooting against an artist like that.

I looked into getting tickets for her LA show. Absurdly expensive resale tickets only. She sold out the Hollywood bowl which is 18k seats. Not hard to do considering Cyndi Lauper and Weird Al can fill the place up as well.

In other cities she is playing modest smaller places with 5k seats and those seats are also wildly expensive.

by Anonymousreply 217January 21, 2023 7:57 PM

I do not think Lincoln said that, r216. Link?

by Anonymousreply 221January 23, 2023 12:20 AM

So the concerts are sell outs R221?

by Anonymousreply 222January 23, 2023 12:25 AM

R222 - reportedly, some of them are, yes.

by Anonymousreply 223January 23, 2023 12:30 AM

Madonna sold $70-100+ million in tickets last week. No number released, just number of tickets sold.

Madonna's Rebel Heart tour (last arena tour) had a worldwide average of $116 per sale. Elton John saw his average ticket price rise from $130 to $180 from 2018 to 2023. And large amounts of Madonna tickets are now being sold at over $1000--not just a few premium seats--entire giant sections on floor and in 100 level. Fans are buying them.

Hard to call shows "sold out" because we don't know the process of releasing tickets for sale--They release in batches sometimes and change pricing based on demand. Some U.S. shows with tickets on the market are not occurring for 10 months. They also are not sending people digital tickets until 2 days before the concert, which is a new method of attacking the scalping market. It means fans are the ones buying tickets.

There may also be a lot more tour dates to be added. Never knew how this worked but looks like they guarantee 1-4 nights in some cities and have option to extend another night or two if ticket sales warrant additional shows. So there could be many more shows added.

by Anonymousreply 224January 23, 2023 12:39 AM

Interesting info about the ticket sales thanks R224. Fairly normal to sell concert tickets so far ahead now. The $1000 tickets doesn't sound good though. But if they're already planning more dates then it sounds like they expect everything to be sold out based on sales so far.

Which is weird because everyone above said that there would be zero fan interest in Madonna's 2023 tour.

by Anonymousreply 225January 23, 2023 12:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 226January 23, 2023 1:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 227January 23, 2023 1:14 AM

We already explained that sold out doesn’t mean all tickets have been sold. They set a threshold. The word is this is going to be her final big tour. Judging by her mental and physical state, she’ll probably be dead soon. This is reminding me of the This Is It tour. There is no way she’s going to be able to do all these days. It’s impossible. Expect cancellations. I don’t know who is advising or what drugs she’s currently on.

by Anonymousreply 228January 23, 2023 2:32 AM

r228 Michael Jackson was a 100 lb junkie with a doctor shooting him up with medications to make him wake and sleep. There is no indication Madonna has issues like this. Wouldnt surprise me if she had some pill dependency or drank too much but thats a lot of 60 somethings today.

by Anonymousreply 247January 23, 2023 11:43 AM

Very possible she is indeed strung out on pain killers like Jacko.....somthin not right with her.

by Anonymousreply 248January 23, 2023 11:44 AM

R246 - that was the Confessions tour. Agreed, it was her high point as a performer.

by Anonymousreply 249January 23, 2023 11:35 PM

Nah, the Blond Ambition Tour and The Girlie Show were her at her peak.

by Anonymousreply 251January 24, 2023 11:42 PM

Stop lying R251. According to the link [bold]you[/bold] posted - the film isn't scrapped. It will be put on hold while she concentrates on the tour... That seems fair enough.

Also from the link you posted:

"Speculation over the fate of the movie began instantly after Madonna announced a career-spanning world tour last week — [bold]one that sold out shows in New York, London, Paris and other cities in minutes[/bold]".

Which is very surprising because everybody in this thread said no-one would want to go to the concerts and they would be cancelled due to lack of interest because she's too old.

by Anonymousreply 252January 25, 2023 12:02 AM

Dataloungers bitch and tear down every sacred cow. The public isn't so negative.

by Anonymousreply 253January 25, 2023 2:39 AM

r251 - that's good news. A Madonna biopic COULD be good if it has a talented screenwriter and director behind it. Were Milos Forman still around, I bet he would have made a really interesting film. I loved his biopics because they weren't traditional this happened, then this happened, then this happened slogs. The People Vs. Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon were great. How about a reunion with David Fincher, her greatest music video director?

by Anonymousreply 254January 25, 2023 2:48 AM

A Madonna bio-pic would be a bore (reductive!)

There's no there [italic]there[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 255January 25, 2023 5:34 AM

Honestly, Ken Russell would have been ideal… imagine a Madonna biopic ala TOMMY (especially given her current state).

That crap is too fucking funny, r257. She’s so fucking delusional and narcissistic. This is the bitch that sang Like a Virgin. Get a grip, hon. She takes herself waaaaay too seriously.

by Anonymousreply 258January 25, 2023 7:55 AM

her shows are amazing, but see her quick, her joints are shot and she needs a walker....she wont make it past el paso..

by Anonymousreply 259January 25, 2023 8:37 AM

Her last two shows were dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 260January 25, 2023 8:57 AM

R221 'Well the older gays 65+ on my FB feed are all agog about her tour"

And it kills her to see rows of people who remind her of her own age. In her head, she's still pulling the teenyboppers.

by Anonymousreply 261January 25, 2023 4:56 PM

I think she'll actually be quite emotional seeing all that grey hair in the audience -- seeing folks who've been following her over the course of five decades and knowing this is all but certainly her last tour.

by Anonymousreply 262January 25, 2023 5:04 PM

[quote] In her head, she's still pulling the teenyboppers.

My Gen Z relatives and co-workers know who Madonna is, but don't listen to her music and don't care about her at all. It's amazing how fleeting fame can be. You can be the biggest star in the world and a couple generations later people are just not interested. Of course the current generation has no interest in Madonna, she's ancient history to them.

I guess the equivalent would've been if me and my Gen X peers were going crazy over Peggy Lee back in the 80s and 90s. It would've been pretty ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 263January 25, 2023 8:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 264January 26, 2023 3:57 PM

That’s what Madonna likes about backup dancers. She gets older and they stay the same age.

by Anonymousreply 265January 26, 2023 4:04 PM

R186, I remember seeing that video when it first came out and thought "wow, Madonna really looks bad, she needds to stop doing this to herself". But now, compared to what she looks like today, I'll take that Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 266January 26, 2023 4:21 PM

R213, I remember reading what you posted before! It's so pathetic, depressing and laughable to see how far she has fallen.

For all her business acumen, she doesn't understand the basics of pop music- it's a youth market. Once your fans get older they don't want to see you apeing the twentysomethings.

by Anonymousreply 277February 5, 2023 2:57 AM

She has been adding dates and not cancelling any as far as I’m aware so it does seem tickets are selling well.

by Anonymousreply 278February 5, 2023 9:09 AM

Her tours used to sell out in 24 hours. The Ticketmaster scandal exposed how fraudulent all of this is. Someone is taking advantage of her. She’s not in shape, not in her right mind, to be touring. This is MJ all over again with the This Is It Tour. Even her fans are concerned. She literally has one day off between shows, sometimes two. How the hell is she going to do that? She won’t be home for at least a year.

by Anonymousreply 279February 5, 2023 9:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 304February 7, 2023 6:18 AM

r297 HILARIOUS

Of course her movie project was cancelled. She could have self financed it without blinking or kicked in financing but she wants the $$ from a studio. If you've ever worked with talent like this, they "work hard" when they feel like it but it's sporadic. You can get away with recording like this. Or maybe shooting a music video. You can't on a feature. and the more involved they get, the worse things tend to go especially when it involves the script. And she was insisting on directing. Was it William Orbit who stopped working with her because she'd leave him sitting around a studio for days or weeks until she felt like showing up? Guarantee she rescheduled her Universal studios meetings 4 times, left execs waiting for hours, etc. Superstars will do that. But here she wanted something from them and didn't get it. Still dont get why she didn't self finance. Any studio would have guaranteed distribution. She could have done it secretly as well. If she had failed, what would it cost her--a single painting? She's sitting on a half billion dollar art collection.

Ticket sales are great. Dont let anyone tell you differently. There is some serious anti-scalping built in to online ticket sales for this tour. One day scalpers will figure a way around it. For now, they aren't going to buy a ticket, sit on that investment for 7-9 months and then hope to sell it at 40% or more above face value , which is already super inflated.

The extra tour dates were always built in as part of initial bookings, but it helped drive ticket sales for a few days to create fake scarcity.

by Anonymousreply 305February 7, 2023 6:38 AM

Now she knows her time has run out. She will score a few more times, and then, like that, she will stay at home with her monkey.

by Anonymousreply 306February 7, 2023 6:46 AM

The pointy chin is quite creepy.

by Anonymousreply 307February 7, 2023 1:58 PM

I'm torn.

I've never seen Madonna and this is obviously the last and best time to see her...but I don't see myself coughing up hundreds to get nose-bleed seats, and frankly, her face, fake ass and general attitude have turned me off completely these last few years. I love so much of her classic music, and I know she can put on a good show, but she seems unwilling to change with age, and I feel like this will be cringe-worthy at best.

And yet - maybe I should go anyway? Bucket list type thing? I dunno.

by Anonymousreply 308February 12, 2023 9:14 AM

R308, if you have the slightest curiosity and can afford it, I think you should go. It could well be her last major tour, and it seems likely to be the kind of event people talk about for a long time...for good or ill. Being in nosebleed seats might actually be better on this occasion. You won't have a close-up view of her cosmetic misadventures.

by Anonymousreply 309February 12, 2023 9:20 AM

Don't bother R308. Saw her on the Drowned World tour. While it might have been entertaining in places, ultimately it akin to a McDonald's meal, an instant fix and quickly forgotten.

All those bleating on about her Confessions Tours etc, the only difference in any of these is her change of costumes. Everything else remains the same; forced, unspontaneous, pseudo-defiant, basic.

by Anonymousreply 310February 12, 2023 9:20 AM

SHE wont make it thru half the tours, she may be strung out on pain killers after the hip etc replacement, explaining her mental lapse and excessive face lifts etc.....very sad......our evita could have had a gr8 golden years full of classy stuff....but no...she a disco girlie and Y'O'U'N'G.......SAD

by Anonymousreply 311February 13, 2023 1:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 316February 13, 2023 2:17 AM

After an underwhelming performance from Rhianna, I decided to watch Madonna's from 2012. This was the best halftime performance in my opinion and am not a stan.. She danced her ass off for 12 minutes straight in her early 50s. I watched Gaga's as well. It was good, but she was getting winded with her dancing (she was probably doing more live singing). Madonna's stamina was remarkable for her age back then.. A reminder that even 10 years ago Madonna still looked good and was a fantastic performer. She went over to the dark side after MDMA. That was the transitional album to her illuminati-esque meets S&M phase she has been at since Rebel Heart.

by Anonymousreply 328February 20, 2023 7:05 AM

[quote] This was the best halftime performance in my opinion and am not a stan..

Nice try, Madge. You fell off the bleachers and need ten million guest performers. Your shitty performance is long forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 329February 20, 2023 7:05 AM

[quote]Candy Shop is a real headscratcher.

I think she just can't wait to get to the "My sugar is RAW! My sugar is RAW!" part.

She could only wait two albums before trying the shop-as-sexual-metaphor conceit again with auto repair ("Body Shop").

by Anonymousreply 330February 20, 2023 7:18 AM

Her fascination with Candy Shop is quite bizarre as no other non-single album track from her back catalog has gotten this type of treatment. Honestly, I wish more pop stars would play some non-singles from their back catalogues, but that's not why the average concert-goer is there, I know.

All that said, Candy Shop kinda goes off live. It was actually a lot of fun on the Rebel Heart tour in that flapper section. She even had a great costume for that number (which she often doesn't)

I have to hand it to her, the shows are selling well but I don't think she will be able to pull this off, and I have been a fan since the beginning. She is a mess now, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

by Anonymousreply 333February 20, 2023 7:54 AM

Yeah, if I’d spend a lot of money on a ticket I’d be nervous. Even artists a fraction of her age can’t seem to hack the rigours of touring, and M is not exactly in good shape physically, mentally or psychologically. But, as someone who used to be a fan and who still appreciates her extraordinary back catalogue, I hope she pulls it together and surprises everyone.
