I did not like Heath Ledger in his role as “Joker”.

R38- I think he looks even better here in the January 1985 TV Guide.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 14, 2023 5:43 AM |
R40- I NEVER found him beautiful or even in anyway attractive.
In that photo he looks as QUEER as a 13 dollar bill.

Heath Ledger's looks were overrated, IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 14, 2023 5:45 AM |
[quote] Was Gary Cooper gay?
That's a big fat NO. He was quite the ladie's man. Being married didn't put a dent in his womanizing. Poor Patricia Neal had an affair with him; she thought he would leave his wife and marry her, but he didn't. He stayed married to Veronica "Rocky" Cooper until death did them part.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 14, 2023 7:13 AM |
Take away from r43 - men who look gay can't be beautiful.

R20, I picked a guy up off Christopher St. that looked just like a young Stalin, unnervingly so.
Got him home and his feet were so beat up and dirty it was a boner killer.

R49 something about young Johnny Depp in your picture that reminds me of Austin Butler. I don't think Butler is as good looking, but the resemblance is there.

Buster Crabbe was indeed one of the all-time beauties, but I don't think that's a great pic of him. I like this one better, even though it doesn't show his magnificent body.

Tyrone Power was perhaps the most beautiful male when he started in films in the mid 1930s. When died at age 44 of heart attack, the result of heavy drinking an chain smoking, he looked over 60.

Based on what, R157? His role in PUSS IN BOOTS? I know someone who saw him in COMPANY in Madrid, and he said he's still got plenty of sex appeal.

I met Heath Ledger at a film premier. He wasnt dressed up and had his hair cut very tight. He was short and absolutely nothing to look at. We had chatted before a friend said to me, hes somebody isnt he? I honestly thought he was a runner or someones assistant. He was very friendly, slightly hyper, and i spoke to him after the film too. He was in a grey sweatshirt and trainers and i was sure he was maybe a cameramans assistant from one of the multi tv stations present. He was so nice, chatty and totally down to earth so i found that attractive but the height made him Cute if anything.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 15, 2023 1:46 AM |
Damn. I only know John Terlesky from a TV movie in which he played a rapist, and he was hot as hell in that. Gonna have to check out THE NAKED CAGE, whatever that is :-)

r166, I'm old enough to have seen and "enjoyed" Conrad on Hawaiian Eye in its first run but I don't remember the shortness, chubbiness and hairiness of his legs being as exposed as they are in some of these PR photos. Anyway, I love them!
by Anonymous | reply 169 | January 15, 2023 1:51 AM |

Patrick Warburton
The first time I saw him he was a stunningly gorgeous & built hunk while starring as the hero in a 1980's era steamy, Caribbean potboiler flick.
After that, he next turned up to my eyes in a reoccurring role on Seinfeld by which time he looked sloppy.
Oh, what a loss!

For me the most gorgeous men in film and TV all appeared between 1945 and 1965. I guess it was really about the styling, attitude, clothes, hairstyles, degree of muscle, etc. But then, I'm a baby boomer, so perhaps it was all about my impressions as a child.
For example, nothing could be a more sexually charged image for me than John Gavin, shirtless, in his dark dress pants with a leather belt, in Psycho. He didn't even need Technicolor. Forgive me for not providing a link. Remember, I'm a baby boomer.

R280 - Enrique Rivero was a very enigmatic actor in the '20s and '30s, mainly in France and Sweden (where he was known as the Swedish Valentino). He's most famous for the lead role in Jean Cocteau's "Blood of a Poet" (1930), one of my favorite films. He was apparently in trouble with the law a few times and the scar on his back so noticeable in Cocteau's film was said to have been the result of being shot by a jealous husband. He was actually from Chile and retired and died there.

R329 Younger guys are smoking—and vaping—more. Sure, overall smoking rates have fallen, especially among the over-65 crowd, who have finally gotten around to kicking the habit. But among 25- to 44-year-olds, there are still a whole lot of smokers—twice as many as in the older demographic—and they have the cardiovascular health to show for it.
It takes only one cigarette a day to boost a man’s risk of coronary artery disease by nearly 50 percent, according to a recent BMJ study. And people who think they can avoid that risk by vaping or Juuling are fooling themselves. E-cig users push their heart-disease risk 40 percent higher than that of nonusers; stroke risk jumps 71 percent.

Tyrone Power was one of Judy Garland's gay/bi boyfriends. He seduced her and of course their affair didn't last. But Gerald Clarke, the author of "Get Happy" , desbribes it as the grandest of love affairs, very serious indeed. He claims Judy had to abort Power's baby because marriage was just on feasible for either of them at the time. It's said that Judy sent Power swoony love letters while he was off in the Marines ; he would read them to his buddies. She found out about that and ended the affair. But in Gerald Clarke's hilariously worshipful biography of Judy (he paints her a a blameless victim doomed to drug addcition by Louis B. Mayer and her evil incarnate mother) he insists that Power did NOT read her love letters to his buddies and that Power was crushed by the breakup. Clarke insists that Judy still "occupied his dreams" and that when he saw "Meet Me In St. Louis" at a military outpost theater he was in 'delicious agony" at the "full vibrancy of the warmth and fire in her brandy brown eyes", reminding him of "all that he had given up." Clarke goes on to say that Power wrote a friend and moaned these 'drenched with longing' words; "My God, but she never looked more beautiful." Actually the one who seems "drenched with loinging" is that big ol' Judy quuen Clarke. I've read several bios of Juidy Garland and none of them trumped up her brief alliance with Tyrone Power the way he does.

It's funny there are straight men who even think men are more beautiful and age better than women. But their dicks don't respond to males. Men worship muscular and athletic handsome men. The idea of women being more beautiful wasn't even commonplace until more recent times and women consistently perpetuate the idea that they are the fairer sex. A beautiful woman (without makeup, long hair and jewelry) in ancient times was rather treated like an extraordinary rarity and blessing from the gods.

by Anonymous | reply 362 | February 13, 2023 7:44 PM |
Thanks, R362. That is unfortunate. And there are actually THREE errors in the spelling of his name in the crawl at the end of the final scene, because they spelled it John Eric Hexum, adding an "h" to the first name, spelling Eric with a "c" instead of a "k," and also leaving out the hyphen.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | February 13, 2023 8:32 PM |
R363, you're right. How did they do such an idiotic thing, especially when they got his spelling correct in the first 6 episodes - the main titles? They must've really been shaken up. All 20 episodes are on YouTube (I did not care for his replacement Antony Hamilton).
by Anonymous | reply 364 | February 13, 2023 8:53 PM |
R365, I have no idea how that happened. I guess the crawl and the memorial card at the end were a rush job, and maybe they left the actual typing to some intern. Whatever the reason, it's unfortunate.
Also interesting how the camera doesn't show us Anthony Hamilton's face as he's delivering the tragic news. I wonder if that was because his acting wasn't up to snuff for that moment?

And if you have responded in a thread and then later decide you want to ignore it and don't want to keep getting notifications when people post in it, you can just click on the "eye" icon to turn off notifications. So you can "block" it in that way.

And also even if you manage to block, people can just easily make another account. Which our resident trolls do. Overall, the site is extremely buggy and may benefit if they create sections for threads like politics, pop stans, gay porn, frau topics, etc should be categorized. And instead of downvoting, trolls who repeatedly break forum rules should just be banned after three strikes.

You do know what anecdotal evidence is, right? If not, look it up. The fact that your aunt had the good luck to live to 90 while smoking doesn't prove anything. I'll bet she would have been healthier at 90 if she hadn't smoked at all. For scientific studies to be meaningful, you have to study a large number of people, not rely on anecdotes about smokers who lived to a ripe old age. There is no question smoking is harmful to your health. Many of the socialites Truman Capote liked to hang out with died in their sixties after decades of smoking. Ask a chronic smoker with emphysema if they're happy with the choices they've made in their life.

This was before the accident, R439. Maybe there's more to the story. Maybe his career was in decline at the time and he felt he was too good for the movie and the director and he wasn't shy about letting his unhappiness show.
by Anonymous | reply 443 | February 22, 2023 5:42 PM |
R443 That is a possibility. I think I read that he turned down a ton of huge roles over the years because he thought they were beneath him. Maybe he had a huge ego that eventually stopped his career from moving forward. Then the offers stopped and he was left with crap.
by Anonymous | reply 444 | February 22, 2023 5:45 PM |
R444, if you look at Christopher Reeve's career, your theory doesn't stand up. I don't think he turned down roles because he thought they were "beneath him," but because he felt they weren't interesting for whatever reasons. At the height of his fame, he played a gay man in DEATHTRAP and a pedophile child kidnapper in a TV movie called BUMP IN THE NIGHT. Also, his role in REMAINS OF THE DAY was a fairly small one, but that was a prestige project. I think he chose his roles based on the characters and/or projects that he found interesting and/or challenging.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | February 22, 2023 6:23 PM |

R446, the role of Superman has tended to overshadow all other roles for any actor who played that character, for reasons that should be obvious. That said, Reeve had a fine career on film and onstage outside of Superman, as anyone with any real knowledge of film and theater knows.

[Quote] That said, Reeve had a fine career on film and onstage outside of Superman, as anyone with any real knowledge of film and theater knows.
That said fewer people see a Broadway show during its run than see an episode of any popular TV show or film. Outside of Superman what films was Reeve in that were popular or well-known except perhaps the romantic drama Somewhere in Time? And did Reeve appear on Broadway after the success of Superman?
I saw Remains of the Day and forgot he was in it. He didn't have much presence on film. He was basically window dressing. I saw Street Smart which is a good film, but I remember Morgan Freeman and Kathy Baker.
And who saw or remembers the remake of The Village of the Damned, Death Trap, Noises Off, The Bostonians and Monsignor?

Chris Reeves career amounted to nothing in the end but he had a great ass before the wheelchair. At least he could actually act and was great with Margot Kidder.

They don't call it the Superman curse for nothing.

R448, "The Bostonians" was well received, and it was another prestige project. Christopher Reeve had a very respectable career, especially for someone afflicted with the Superman curse. And I assume he would have continued to have a respectable career if not for the accident.

After that prestige project The Bostonians he did films Switching Channels, Morning Glory and a lot of TV films: Bump in the Night, The Rose and the Jackal, Death Dreams . . .and appeared on TV shows like Frasier and Tales from the Crypt. His career stalled years before the accident.

I think the only films beyond SuperMan he might be remembered for are Somewhere in Time and Mousetrap.
by Anonymous | reply 454 | February 23, 2023 4:14 PM |
^ Deathtrap (1982) not Mousetrap R454 which like Noises Off (1992) did not transfer well to film nor do well at the BO.

Just because YOU didn't see or don't remember them doesn't mean you should speak for everyone. I'm sure THE BOSTONIANS in particular is well remembered by a lot of people.

99% of all "actors" that go to H'wood fail. Chris Reeves was one of those failed "actors". So what? Life goes on.

by Anonymous | reply 462 | February 23, 2023 7:05 PM |
Exactly. Chris Reeves had his 15 minutes in the 70s with the first two Supes films. After that it was over. The world got over him.

Not atypical for DL R462. Why not carry on and add something you think would be appropriate.
and now to get back to Chris Reeve I never heard any or knew anyone who saw The Bostonians have you R457 ? The Remains of the Day is an excellent film, but I'd forgotten he was even in it. Most people even those with knowledge of film and theater associate him the Superman films and the horse-riding accident.

I was just watching The Razor's Edge. Tyrone Power is such a stiff! Gene Tierney is ravishing, but the hair stylist for the film gave her one of the weirdest hairdos I've ever seen.
R357 Her hairstyles were true to the periods in which the film was set. Post WWI (1918) to the mid-1930s.

R431 disagree that for most people their peak is 22. I would rather say that it is late 20s, even 30 for some.
22 still lack some expression and style. Yes they are beautiful, but they mostly lack something.
27, 28 is the magic number in most cases.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | February 26, 2023 10:02 PM |
Nope. Most people will never be hotter than they are at 22. Except in Hollywood where they try and buy their youth until they are 70 like Vadge.
by Anonymous | reply 482 | February 26, 2023 10:41 PM |
I think beauty peaks differently in different people. I've known a couple of guys who you could seriously categorize as beautiful in their late teens and their looks were already noticeably diminished by the time they left college. A few others didn't look their best until perhaps after age 30. I'm seeing it as a combination of genetics and lifestyle.
by Anonymous | reply 483 | February 26, 2023 11:46 PM |
True. Obv for the last 300 years smoking, add drinking and being in the sun all day aged people like fucking hell. Even back in the 1970s the girls especially looked 20 years older than they actually were. Now, when most Americans and Canadians are 70 to 80% grossly obese or humongously, galactically obese like Christina Metz, people are absolutely grotesque.

by Anonymous | reply 485 | February 26, 2023 11:52 PM |
I've often wondered if you asked old men what age they would like to return to (if they could), what age would that be. I mean, when you were at your best. Most would probably say early 20s, maybe? Or late teens when you could cum the best. Some people in their thirties, when they had completed all their education (including life education). I don't suppose anyone would choose 40 or later.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | February 27, 2023 12:25 AM |

[quote] But isn't her personality pretty much intact?
No, this new version makes her much more warm and fuzzy and comforting. Death was never like that. When Rainie Blackwell, the "Element Girl" who wanted to kill herself encounters Death she assumes she is there to end her life: "Blessed, merciful death...you're come to make it all stop." And she tells her no, she didn't come for her, she came for a woman upstairs and heard Rainie crying and and came to investigate. She listens to Rainie but is not what you'd call sympathetic. She tells her "I'm not blessed or merciful, I'm just me. I've got a job to do and I do it." She suggests Rainie to ask the Sun God Ra to release her from her tormented existence, which he does by killing her. She's reduced to a pile of crumbling ash. Looking at the remains of Urania Blackwell Death says "Have fun, Rainie. Better luck next time." No, death is NOT warm and fuzzy. Not at all.
