Maila Nurmi once sued Cassandra Peterson, claiming that her "Elvira" persona was modeled after what she created as Vampira.
"[on Cassandra Peterson, aka "Elvira"] Boy, has the Devil got that bitch - it's the Devil in her blood. Initially, they wanted me. I wouldn't do it [the 1981 revival of her "Vampira" character] because I didn't want Vampira to be anything but perfect. I certainly didn't want her to be portrayed as a slut."

$10 Million Suit Claims Horror Mistress Elvira a Vampira Rip-Off September 12, 1988
Horror movie hostess Elvira, queen of the macabre on late night TV, is accused in a $10 million lawsuit of pirating her campy pin-up character from another sultry horror mistress.
″The character was ripped off,″ attorney Jan Goodman said Monday.
Ms. Goodman filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court last week on behalf of Maila ″Vampira″ Nurmi, who contends actress Cassandra ″Elvira″ Peterson infringed upon her trademark, public reputation and ability to market her lucrative character.
″Hopefully, my client will be fairly compensated and Cassandra Peterson will continue with her character and share the proceeds with my client,″ Ms. Goodman said.
Miss Nurmi created the Vampira character in the 1950s, combining sex appeal, humor and death as TV fright movie hostess, the lawsuit said. In 1981, executives at KHJ-TV asked her to revive ″The Vampira Show.″
Instead, the lawsuit contends, Miss Nurmi was eased out after turning over details pertaining to the image and persona of her character, and Miss Peterson was installed as host of the syndicated ″The Elvira Show.″
″There is no Elvira. There’s only a pirated Vampira,″ said Miss Nurmi, 65. ″Cassandra Peterson slavishly copied my product and made a fortune. America has been duped.″
