I think they are equally as bad as Mormons because they isolate and guilt trip and shun to the extreme. The shunning and shaming tactics should be illegal. Both groups also require cognitive dissonance and the shit they are required to believe is incompressible by anyone born sane. Being born into that environment appears to be horrible.

I really wish I could believe that I’m headed for heaven etc and have peace of mind when I consider why the heck I’m a human. But I just don’t- and I don’t believe in Santa. Much of many religions contains great life advice, forgiveness, aid to the weakest and poorest among us- and much is just plain barbaric e.g., Leviticus. And organized religion in 2023 is the essential basis for prejudice and exceptionalism, e.g. Christian nationalism in the US and all the theocratic nations of the world including now Israel. Conservative Jews in Israel are behaving like Nazis and the orthodox Muslim world continues to treat women as policy like beasts of burden.

There are devout people who don’t advertise it, hit others over the head over it, and use it to set themselves above others. But you can be a good person and know right from wrong without it. I like to believe there is a higher power of some type- I definitely know I don’t control much of what happens in my life although there are some things I can control. I would love to have the peace of mind of some of the devout. I just don’t. When I die I suspect it might as well be 1922- Santa was a nice idea and for a while so was the religion I was brought up in however irrationally. But neither stand up to scrutiny and empiric analysis. And much of religious dogma is just plain wrong.
