Austin just won the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 6January 13, 2023 1:49 AM

TMZ is reporting it. Must be true…

by Anonymousreply 7January 13, 2023 1:50 AM

From the People report--Priscilla has confired LM's death:

[quote] "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE Thursday evening.

[quote]"She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."

by Anonymousreply 8January 13, 2023 1:50 AM

I had a feeling this would be the outcome after reading that the housekeeper found her unresponsive. Who knows how long she had been without a heartbeat at that point.

by Anonymousreply 9January 13, 2023 1:51 AM

Who is Oscar, R6?

by Anonymousreply 10January 13, 2023 1:51 AM

Third-worst thing ever to happen to poor Priscilla.

First Elvis dies, then she injects Fix-a-Flat into her face, and now THIS.

by Anonymousreply 19January 13, 2023 1:57 AM

God damnit!

This sucks so, so much. She never got a chance to get over all the shit she went through in the last 2-5 years.

The ex husband who had child abuse images on his laptop, her son’s suicide. You could see how badly she was hurting in the GG pics.

I’m so sad this happened.

So, who gets Elvis' death house?

by Anonymousreply 22January 13, 2023 1:59 AM

I wouldn’t be too quick to say Austin has the Oscar. The academy really isn’t that sentimental. Even though they did the right thing in giving the best actor oscar to Hopkins, everybody thought it was going to Boseman. Also, Elvis has been dead for 45 years and it was only a family member here.

by Anonymousreply 23January 13, 2023 1:59 AM

Why do people link to tweets about news items instead of the source articles? It's incredibly annoying and inefficient. Are you trying to direct traffic there for Elon?

by Anonymousreply 24January 13, 2023 2:00 AM

You know, I never felt one way or another about Priscilla accept I LOVED her late 60s heavy eye-make up and Big Hair.

Now, I feel really sad for her.

by Anonymousreply 25January 13, 2023 2:01 AM

[quote]my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,"

Well at least that sounds promising. Maybe she just stepped out for a cup of coffee and she’ll be right back.

by Anonymousreply 26January 13, 2023 2:01 AM

[quote]accept I LOVED her

We can accept that.

by Anonymousreply 27January 13, 2023 2:02 AM

Her son’s suicide wasn’t something she could get over - it was only a matter of time.

by Anonymousreply 28January 13, 2023 2:04 AM

Feel terrible not only for Priscilla but for Riley and her younger two daughters, who are young teens. Too young to lose their mother, so soon after losing their elder half-brother.

In a way this was pre-destined, perhaps. Elvis's mother Gladys died from heart failure in her 40s, and Elvis was only 42 when he died.

by Anonymousreply 29January 13, 2023 2:04 AM

That's two 54 year olds: Adam Rich and Lisa Marie Presley. We need a third to complete the cycle. Which 54 year old is on your 2023 Death Bingo Card ?

by Anonymousreply 30January 13, 2023 2:04 AM

ok, ok ,r27,

except I LOVED her late 60s heavy eye-make up and Big Hair.

Happy now?

by Anonymousreply 31January 13, 2023 2:04 AM

Outside of Priscilla, this leaves Riley Keough as the main surviving Elvis heir. Until the two younger girls are older.

by Anonymousreply 41January 13, 2023 2:08 AM

R23: Also, are they really going to give this talentless hack an Oscar for his breakout role out of sympathy for Lisa Marie? Other than Adrien Brody, I can’t think of any other instances of the academy going this young in the Best actor category. They do it all the time though in the best actress category. March 12th is still a long ways away.

by Anonymousreply 42January 13, 2023 2:08 AM

Is it true that Riley and her father are still in Co$? Why was Danny living with her? I understand they were still close, but does he work or was he sponging off of her?

by Anonymousreply 54January 13, 2023 2:16 AM

Was she drug addicted?

by Anonymousreply 55January 13, 2023 2:16 AM

I wish that we, as a culture, would get away from this destructive idea that when someone loses a loved one, death (whether by suicide, OD, or old-fashioned, brokenhearted hard living) is the way to be "reunited" with them. The easy reaction to Lisa Marie's passing is, of course, to say that she's now with her father, her son, etc.

It would have been so much more compelling for Lisa Marie to live to be 100, to be a survivor, to honor the memory of her lost loved ones by working through her own demons. As a society, I think we have swallowed this dumbed-down "Romeo and Juliet" narrative in which people too readily give themselves up to destructive grief and it's marketed as a love story.

by Anonymousreply 72January 13, 2023 2:26 AM

That was actually a pretty good song imo, r67. I liked it.

I'm wondering, after seeing clips of her the other night at the Globes, if she was ill? As in, with a terminal-type illness or something serious. She looked so awful, frail and out of it. I know it could be pills or drugs, but it just seemed so bad. Why would her mother, adult daughter (who seemed sensible) and ex-husbands let her carry on like an addict at her age? How did she maintain custody of her younger children. Something else could have been going on.

by Anonymousreply 73January 13, 2023 2:26 AM

[quote]Is it true that Riley and her father are still in Co$? Why was Danny living with her? I understand they were still close, but does he work or was he sponging off of her?

[quote] I could see the Scienos trying to use her death as an example of what happens to those who leave.

Tony Ortega has post from 2019 on his blog that states that Riley slipped back into COS. There's another post from 2020 where he slams her because she had signed onto a TV miniseries project about people who had escaped The Children of God cult.

by Anonymousreply 74January 13, 2023 2:27 AM

Were any of her children with Michael Jackson?

by Anonymousreply 75January 13, 2023 2:29 AM

R73, you are very stupid and naive.

You cannot convince an addict that they have a problem if they don't think they do. you can only try and do so much but it's up to that individual to do the "hard work".

by Anonymousreply 76January 13, 2023 2:30 AM

Jeff Beck died yesterday. Today is Lisa Marie day.

by Anonymousreply 92January 13, 2023 2:52 AM

R79: That was at the height of the equity movement too. I also remember when everybody thought Lauren Bacall was a shoo in for essentially a career achievement type win and they went with Juliette Binoche. Other than Heath Ledger, they really aren’t that sentimental. This is very sad but I hope they don’t do a sympathy gesture by rewarding the actor who played her father for a mediocre, breakout performance.

by Anonymousreply 93January 13, 2023 2:54 AM

Some of you are such Marys. How ON EARTH will Riley keep it together!!! People have deaths in their families. It is called life. And death is part of it. Most of the time people carry on. They grieve then move on.

Maybe I'm weird because I was in my 20s and death with death due to AIDS. But there is a generation of us?

"HOW WILL SHE GO ON!" Get a grip, ladies. And the writing has been on the wall for at least 20 years for Lisa Marie, chronic ne'er-do-well rich drug addict. She had a family to give her meaning, but what else? Her marriages were shit. Her artistry minor and in the past. Newsflash - ne'er-do-well rich drug addicts usually don't make it to 60.

by Anonymousreply 122January 13, 2023 3:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 123January 13, 2023 3:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 124January 13, 2023 3:25 AM

Her makeup was part of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 133January 13, 2023 3:38 AM

I debated whether to say this or not, as I am not in the habit of disparaging the newly departed. But, what the heck, it's DL. I was able to observe LMP backstage at a Bowie concert 20 years ago. She had a very emo, goth-y, kind of miserable vibe. She was giving mean girl and her energy was dark. Not judging, but, she was 34 and so her two older kids were still young then. And, she really gave me the creeps. I kinda get the feeling she'd been depressed her entire life.

Wasn't Elvis a de fact pedo himself?

[quote] On September 13, 1959, during Elvis Presley's Army career, he met Priscilla at a party at his rented home in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Though only 14 years old, she made an impression on him. Elvis allegedly regressed to acting like an "awkward, embarrassed" boy-next-door figure in front of her. By the end of the evening, however, he managed to compose himself. Priscilla’s parents were upset by her late return home the night of that first meeting and insisted that she never see Elvis again, but his eagerness for another rendezvous and his promise never to bring her home late again led them to relent. Thereafter, he and Priscilla were frequently together until his departure from West Germany in March 1960.

Those of us who grew up with LMP all know that she really did give off “bad vibes” (both of them actually) like she was always angry, plus she was never happy (except ironically, during her marriage to MJ!!), she picked unbelievably weird men, she was a massive druggie, and she was raised by servants. And yes, everything about her mother and father was also all of the above, just soooo weird and wrong that PP’s parents basically sold her to Elvis as a minor child. And the music industry tried to whitewash it and normalize Elvis. No, there is absolutely nothing normal about any of them. And we haven’t even scratched the surface on Xenu and the clam$.

Some people just have a dark cloud that follows them, that was LMP. She obviously suffered a great deal, never had proper parental role models, and she struggled in marriage, as a parent, an addict, and I am sure she was racked with guilt over her son’s suicide. I also think she had a personality disorder and mental illness that she struggled with, including dissociation. Her fourth divorce sounds like it was still ongoing and it was a doozie — she accused him of molesting the twins, he countered that she sexually abused them herself, he brought evidence of her prolific drug use and it was impressive.

I’m just hoping she didn’t go out in any pain, and that the people who are left behind can find meaning in her life. Hopefully there was still enough good there that they can focus on the positive times they shared. Whatever one thought of her, I did respect the fact that she didn’t run around begging people to like her. She was never thirsty — you either like her or you don’t. I respect that she never tried to make you like her, she was just herself.

by Anonymousreply 188January 13, 2023 6:05 AM

So what's the cause of death? Drugs? Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Anyway, she always seemed a troubled person. I mean marrying Michael Jackson for God's sake. That was truly insane.

by Anonymousreply 189January 13, 2023 6:16 AM

She was only four years older than her ex-husband Michael Jackson when he died at fifty. She never really had a chance sadly. She lost her father at a young age and her mother started dating her father when she was just a teenager. Imagine the pressure of growing up as the only child of an icon and with nobody to protect her in the industry its no wonder she turned to drugs to cope. And make no mistake this death is not related to the vaccine. I saw a few comments with that reference but this would've happened regardless....almost predestined.

I hope she gets some peace now. I don't know any of her details or anything much about her really apart from that gross paedophile MJ thing (repulsive) and that she was Elvis & Priscilla's daughter.

We often speak of nepotism here - and this is the other side of it where the wheels come off the whole thing. Nepotism gets you in the front door but you have to be able to back it up with something solid at some point.

R158 Not denying Elvis was a creep or into younger girls but he also dated several girls who were around his age in the 50’s like Dixie Locke, Barbara Hearn, and Anita Wood. Some people say Ann Margret was the one that got away for him and she was a grown woman in Viva Las Vegas.

This news about Lisa is so tragic. I can’t imagine what Priscilla, Riley, and co. are going through. This was supposed to be a happy moment for them. I only find comfort in knowing that one of her final memories was attending the Golden Globes and celebrating Austin’s win.

by Anonymousreply 215January 13, 2023 10:04 AM

Does anyone wonder if MJ messed with her son Benjamin, and that could have contributed to him taking his life?

Even if not, she obviously felt guilt for being a lousy parent, and I think she had a lot of guilt for helping Co$ cover up Danny Masterson's rapes and who knows what else. One wonders how different her life could have been if Priscilla had never got involved with Co$.

There was also this (from Priscilla's Wiki):

[quote]Beginning in 1978, Presley had a six-year intermittent live-in relationship with model Michael Edwards, until he began developing feelings for the teenage Lisa Marie.[75] Lisa Marie was aged 10 to 16 during his relationship with her mother.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she was molested by him or other creeps her mother brought around.

by Anonymousreply 221January 13, 2023 12:11 PM

LMP thought Jackson would propel her career as a "singer".

The genetic talent gene from Elvis, however, took a pass on her. If LMP had had had any talent, she'd have had a microphone in front of her long before her relationship with Jackson.

To Jackson, Presley was the purest embodiment of the term "Trophy Wife".

And, they both knew the score.

by Anonymousreply 222January 13, 2023 12:11 PM

No, she obviously wasn't as talented as her father, but she sounded fine with the right material. I would compare her to Nancy Sinatra, although Nancy was more focused on her career (not a messed up drug addict) and thus more successful.

R236 you’re obviously insane as the person pushing the MJ agenda.

Yt entertainers are shredded to pieces everyday, it’s just that when it happens to a blq one you actually pay attention and lose your shit. It’s about the person, no one is taking down Denzel or Patti Labelle. It’s about respectability.

by Anonymousreply 238January 13, 2023 3:00 PM

We should be taking Denzel down, as he’s known to be a serial cheater and something of a homophobe.

by Anonymousreply 239January 13, 2023 3:16 PM

I think that definitely happened previously r236. White men could go on “forgiveness tours” and basically confess and be forgiven for whatever they’d done. I remember thinking about Michael Vick, who went to prison and definitely tried to do everything he could to rehabilitate himself as well as his image, and people weren’t there for that—and it was because of racism.

I do think that doesn’t fly as much anymore. We’re getting better but we’re far from being perfect in that area. And it also doesn’t make it right that Michael Jackson molested little boys. And remember, people went crazy when he died—white and black. It’s only in hindsight and as time passes that people are more unforgiving of him.

by Anonymousreply 240January 13, 2023 3:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 259January 13, 2023 4:38 PM

RIP Lisa Marie.

by Anonymousreply 260January 13, 2023 4:49 PM

I think she's been lying in bed for a couple years, um, 'self-medicating' after the son suicide. Bad nutrition; dope + booze; a weak heart from inactivity... Then the sudden activity involved with the movie only hastened her demise.

It looks like she was wearing a fake hairpiece in the back to hide hair loss; more indication of poor health.

by Anonymousreply 261January 13, 2023 4:51 PM

This news has me shaken. The Presley family has gone through far too much tragedy over the generations. I suspect Priscilla won't stick around long after losing her grandson and daughter in 3 years back to back. No parent should have to bury their child.

by Anonymousreply 262January 13, 2023 4:53 PM

Race baiting troll pests from LSA, where were you cunts when Lisa Marie was alive? Now you suddenly give a shit about grievances from decades ago? Fuck off and bury yourselves.

by Anonymousreply 265January 13, 2023 5:01 PM

Thriller is so 80’s.

by Anonymousreply 266January 13, 2023 5:07 PM

[R264] Couldn't give a single flying fuck about Michael Jackson, unlike you and yours swarming a thread about a woman dying to make her a villain over a relationship that ended 30 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 267January 13, 2023 5:07 PM

[R265] Misogyny coming from other women, very typical of that fake woke crowd.

by Anonymousreply 268January 13, 2023 5:09 PM

R267 YAWN. Still listening to Thriller. R266 so what Bitch it was a great decade. R268 anyone who uses the word "woke" is a clown and automatically discredited. It's also very revealing because Black people don't even use the word anymore. But very typical of pale people to steal our slang and run it into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 269January 13, 2023 5:14 PM

Michael Jackson was Quincy Jones. Lisa Marie Presley was Linda Perry. Without their producers, they floundered.

by Anonymousreply 270January 13, 2023 5:15 PM

R263 I'm a man who doesn't give a shit about LSA.

by Anonymousreply 271January 13, 2023 5:16 PM

Let me get this right. The black kween on this thread things MJ's immoral, abusive, sleaze behavior in life should be overlooked, denied, or forgiven, or all three, because Black Lives Matter, Positive Role Models and color blind Balance in Media representations. OJ is innocent, too! Idi Amin Dada?

by Anonymousreply 272January 13, 2023 5:21 PM

[R269] The word was stolen and weaponized by right wing racists, I do agree. But you can't seriously think that blaming this woman who just died after losing her son 3 years ago and leaving behind 3 kids is worth your time to finger wag at. Perspective.

by Anonymousreply 273January 13, 2023 5:27 PM

R272 I don't think there are as many Black women on here as you think. I know for sure every time I put my hands down my pants I feel dick and balls. Again you whose trying put to all the Black people in box. As your kind does because you can't properly perceive the differences in other cultures.

by Anonymousreply 274January 13, 2023 5:27 PM

[R272] It's a troll talking to itself, let it see itself out.

by Anonymousreply 275January 13, 2023 5:28 PM

R274 is right. I have no idea why DL’ers think there are tons of posters from LSA. It’s probably the other way around—tons of DL’ers post on LSA.

by Anonymousreply 276January 13, 2023 5:29 PM

I for one don't give a shit what she did in her life or whose image she helped. I care that her kids are left without a mother, and Lisa Marie's mother has to bury her own daughter after burying her daughter's father and her grandson. It's a tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 277January 13, 2023 5:31 PM

[quote]Outside of Priscilla, this leaves Riley Keough as the main surviving Elvis heir. Until the two younger girls are older.

I recall reading that the EP estate really needed the movie to be a hit because they were hurting for cash. So depending on what's left, since presumably there should be some kind of trust for the underaged kids, she may not be the "heir" of much.

by Anonymousreply 278January 13, 2023 5:32 PM

Why do famous people have to die?

by Anonymousreply 279January 13, 2023 5:33 PM

I'm not doing that R273 it's anti MJ trolls who posted that video. And by the way Finding Neverland was financed by David geffen, and there are countless threads on here his disgusting behavior but of course it's not being brought up now. R276 for last time I am Black Man who doesn't give a shit about LSA. If even who gives a fuck. Whoever posted that video of those lying losers is the one who decided to derail this thread.

Priscilla's mother died two years ago.

by Anonymousreply 281January 13, 2023 5:34 PM

Priscilla lost her mother, grandson, and daughter within two years? That's rough.

by Anonymousreply 282January 13, 2023 5:36 PM

R277 - Priscilla didn't 'bury her grandson'. Lisa Marie and the boy's father buried him. He did have parents when he died, he wasn't raised by Priscilla. She lost a grandson, sure - but it wasn't her responsibilty to raise him and then bury him.

As for her twins, luckily they do have the older half sibleing (34 year old Riley), their grandmother, and their father still in their life to raise them. Not the same as having your Mom, but lucky for them they won't be orphaned nor have their lives totally disrupted by this tragedy. (And I'm sure there was a plan in place should this inevitabley happen).

R292 I think they’re referring to Wy’s musical ability

by Anonymousreply 293January 13, 2023 6:18 PM

I have been baffled by the overwhelming Lisa Marie Presley grief. She was a musician, but she had only one minor hit that only got to no. 16 on the Billboard charts.

She was famous almost entirely because of her father, not because she herself did anything that noteworthy. The public is only grieving her because she was well known, not because she ever did anything worth missing.

by Anonymousreply 294January 13, 2023 8:30 PM

Because she literally spent her whole life in the public eye. As another poster said Lisa Marie Presley was always in the background of our lives. It feels strange that now she's gone.

by Anonymousreply 295January 13, 2023 8:41 PM

I don't know if people are grieving, R294. She was just relatively young and was the only child of Elvis Presley. I think older people (who remember Elvis) wanted to see how she'd turn out. Would she inherit any of his talent. People did sympathize with her when her son died by suicide, though.

I'm not even sure if she ever went to school with other kids. Seems like she may have been home schooled her entire life. I doubt she went to college. I can 100% believe she blew through millions with all her children and all of her husbands. She lived in a huge bubble.

She fell into the same pill-taking addiction as her father did. Someone posted photos of her bathroom. Loads of pill bottles, a plate of food on the bathroom counter. Staying in bed all day, not taking care of hygiene. She was putting on weight like her father.

I don't think she lived very publicly, at all, considering the circumstances.

by Anonymousreply 296January 13, 2023 8:47 PM

So normal people don't deserve any sympathy, R294? If she had a #1 hit, would you mourn for her?

She found her father dead at the age of 9, got swept up in Scientology thanks to her mother and managed to leave the Co$, which very few do. Had several weird marriages, battled drugs, lost her son to suicide. She was a "poor little rich girl," but couldn't beat her demons. I see her as a tragic figure somewhat like Anna Nicole Smith.

Nobody has to grieve anyone they don't want to. I don't care about Jeff Beck or Tatjana Patitz much. But I grew up with Lisa Marie, and I will miss her.

by Anonymousreply 297January 13, 2023 8:48 PM

Her daughter Riley says she will be buried at Graceland, next to her father, her son, her grandmother and great-grandmother. The graves are in the Meditation Garden on the south side of the mansion. No word on when the services will be held for her mother,.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 298January 13, 2023 8:51 PM

r297, since I did not know her personally, I would mourn for her if she had made any meaningful contribution to my life either by producing art that mattered to me or having served in the public interest in a way that mattered to me.

She did neither of those things. I sincerely doubt anyone on this thread knew her or was a big fan of her music, and so 99.999% of the world who claim they are grieving for her are really not doing so for any other reason whatsoever than that her death is a reminder they're getting older.

by Anonymousreply 299January 13, 2023 8:53 PM

Its "death porn" a version of "grief porn". Cosplay of grief on social media by ungrounded people without much going on. We already have a treacly example.

Anderson Cooper has trotted out this treacly grief recently. Its in the zeitgeist right now.

Guys, this is a gay gossip site. We would be failing in our fiduciary duties if we don’t beat this dead horse into the ground. No one here worshiped her, but if you are Gen X, maybe even late Millennial, then you grew up with her. It’s no different than any other huge movie star passing that you’ve known for 30 - 50 years.

I posted that I felt like she never tried to make us love her, and I stand by that. In certain ways, LMP was very authentic and real. When she decided to be open on a topic, she really was open, to a fault I would say. But how can you not respect that? She had demons, and she’s been very open about them — I have demons too, so I get it. No judgement on her, just kind of a tip of the hat. She did the best she knew how with the strange hand she was dealt. I am sure I would not have fared any better than her. It’s a shame she lost her fortune too, I would imagine that goes hand in hand with her addiction journey.

The person I’m actually much more curious about is her most recent ex-husband. What is that cat all about?? He is so weird with the luxury bucket hats, the child porn, the gothic vampire creepiness. What did she see in this guy? What brought them together? Were they in love at one point? What kind of partner was he? How could she possibly be sexually attracted to him?!?

Clearly, their divorce played a big part in her spiraling downward. He did say he’s very sad about this news, I hope he means it. Does anyone here have clarity on the child porn/child abuse accusations? They accused each other of sexually abusing the twins (I believe?). It would be undeniably horrifying if LMP did abuse them because that puts her marriage to MJ into a very different light.

That’s the other thing with her: MJ. I tried to understand it years ago, then she gave that interview where I vaguely recall her actually defending Michael. I just remember thinking, “what the fuck is it in her that she can’t see what Michael is?” Maybe she saw it all along and was part of it? I just don’t know.

by Anonymousreply 301January 13, 2023 9:09 PM

Michael Lockwood (most recent ex-husband) reminds me of Keith Urban.

I found this 2006 Graceland tour, Oprah and Gayle, interesting. LMP said that she proposed to Lockwood or asked him, "Aren't you going to propose to me?"

There's a storage building for all the memorabilia.

Anyway, staff prepared a southern meal for them at Graceland (macaroni, ham, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 305January 13, 2023 10:10 PM

I keep thinking of her last speech at Graceland January 8. How could she know that just over a week later she would be back at Graceland. Dead. In a coffin. In the Presley family plot. Forever. One day you’re alive, the next you are not. Some celebrity deaths just seem to highlight the shock of death more than others.

by Anonymousreply 306January 13, 2023 10:28 PM

I'm guessing that both she and her family knew that she felt / looked like shit. Take a look at those bathroom photos with all the pills. Holed up in a bedroom, coming out only to eat? I'm sure that someone must've said, "I don't want you to die, Mom," or something like that. I think this had been a possibility.

She lived longer than her father did. She had the twins in her 40s, so she was an older mom. My dad died in his early 50s, but he and my mom had kids in their 20s.

by Anonymousreply 329January 14, 2023 2:45 AM

The estate will have to pay off her IRS debt, just like Aretha Franklin's estate had to pay off hers.

As far as any personal debts - depends on how they were structured. If she had co-signers (such as her mother) her co-signer (mother) is now responsible. If she put up collateral for her debts, the lender can take the collateral. Lenders can attempt to also put liens on her estate, however that's not always successful (let's hope she had the good sense to put everything in her children's names by now) .

Rule of thumb: when the debtor gets buried, their debts (except taxes) go with them - six feet under.

by Anonymousreply 330January 14, 2023 2:46 AM

TMZ coming out with the family’s decision not to resuscitate. It sounds like she was pretty much gone by the time the ambulance arrived, but they still found a pulse? Sad last hours.

Lisa Marie Presley's heart stopped a second time after she was hospitalized, but due to her hopeless condition ... her family had already ordered doctors not to resuscitate her.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Lisa Marie had been pronounced brain dead after she was admitted to the hospital Thursday. As we first reported, doctors put her in an induced coma and she was on life support.

Due to the fact she was brain dead, we're told family members signed a DNR ... do not resuscitate order, in case she flatlined again.

Sadly, that's exactly what happened ... Lisa Marie suffered a second cardiac arrest, and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Of course, it's unclear how long she'd been without oxygen before her housekeeper found her unresponsive in her bedroom Thursday morning. CPR was administered ... first by her ex-husband, Danny Keough, and then by EMTs.

by Anonymousreply 334January 14, 2023 3:20 AM

Hmm, they wanted a DNR, so soon after being admitted? Was this her first cardiac arrest? It seems strange that she would be brought to the hospital after a heart attack, aged 54, and the family would sign a DNR so quickly. From my (limited) medical knowledge, it takes some time to do the neurological tests that would determine full brain death.

A negative net worth??

by Anonymousreply 342January 14, 2023 4:32 AM

She was wearing a Bump-it r338, lol. Also, if you look at her scalp carefully, it looks like her hair had thinned quite substantially and that perhaps she had root spray on her scalp to hide it.

I don’t find the DNR coming so fast shocking at all. If she has had other overdoses and expressed to her family that she doesn’t want to be a vegetable, I would have moved quickly to meet her wishes too. Anyone who has been around dying people knows that you only have a small window for final wishes. And FYI, if you’re at a Catholic hospital, there are some Catholic doctors/nurses who have disregarded family wishes on DNR’s, so it’s not something to fuck around with. I was at the ER for my elderly grandmother two summers ago. I arrived at about 7:15pm because she had choked at dinner and they kept her alive, but by 10:15, she was dead and I was already on the road heading home. Fortunately, we all knew that Gram would NOT want to be kept alive like that, she had been quite clear about it. I’m sure it’s different when someone is elderly, but still…..

Kids, make sure your loved ones know your wishes now, and find out theirs too. You should be ready for it.

by Anonymousreply 343January 14, 2023 5:25 AM

R342, I read that Graceland had defaulted on expansion loans, so that would explain her negative net worth.

by Anonymousreply 344January 14, 2023 5:26 AM

it's a good time to get your medical shit together folks. appoint your medical proxies, and make your wishes known to family members etc.

by Anonymousreply 345January 14, 2023 5:52 AM

I get that you want to respect the wishes of a person not to be kept artificially alive, as a vegetable. The family was likely respecting her wishes. My question is how they were able to so quickly determine her permanent vegetative state. To my knowledge, that is not something doctors can determine 15 minutes after a patient arrives at hospital. It's a much longer process, involving several tests and procedures, and backup opinions of other MDs. For a famous person like LMP - who was a relatively young woman with young children - they'd want to be extra-sure of her status.

And she was at West Hills, out on the edge of the Valley. To my knowledge, that's a local, community hospital, and not a Level One Trauma or research medical center. Why would the Presleys let a serious life-ending decision be made so quickly there? Note I'm not saying it's a bad hospital, I'm sure people get good care there. I know it was the closest to LMP so she that's where she ended up. Were doctors there familiar with her, and her issues, so the family felt comfortable making a quick DNR decision?

by Anonymousreply 346January 14, 2023 6:56 AM

It really wouldn’t matter if the doctors “knew” as the hospital requires you to sign forms right then and there if you don’t already have them handy. So as long as it takes to tell the doctor “mom always told us if something happens to her, to let her go so here we are” and you sign it, that’s really it. Once the hospital has the properly signed forms, it’s a done deal.

by Anonymousreply 347January 14, 2023 7:03 AM

R346 do you know what the best hospital out in the West Valley is? I don’t even know if there’s a trauma center out there.

by Anonymousreply 348January 14, 2023 7:03 AM

Drug overdose or suicide. I’m calling it

by Anonymousreply 349January 14, 2023 7:06 AM

No r348, I don't live there. I'm sure West Hills is a decent local center. I know that Cedars and UCLA Med Center in Westwood are Level ones, not sure if there is one out in the Valley. People would be transferred to the larger LA city centers for higher care, if needed.

I guess I'm still wondering why the family signed the DNR so quickly, without a rock solid or backup opinion she was completely vegetative and beyond any help. That kind of medical determination - from my understanding - takes a bit of time. She was only 54, wealthy/famous, with underage children at home. It's not a decision MDs make in an hour or even two - why would her family?

I don't think it was OD or suicide r349, at least not this event. My thinking is, did she have a private, underlying condition that led the family to immediately know she was beyond any help. That keeps circling my head; but as stated, I'm no expert.

by Anonymousreply 350January 14, 2023 7:15 AM

R350 maybe she discussed with her family before that she does not wish to be resuscitated. Although it should’ve been put in writing.

by Anonymousreply 351January 14, 2023 7:50 AM

[quote]My question is how they were able to so quickly determine her permanent vegetative state. To my knowledge, that is not something doctors can determine 15 minutes after a patient arrives at hospital.

I think it might have been obvious to the docs that she was down for a LONG TIME before the housekeeper found her. It sounds like she didn’t have much, if any, cardiac activity since they were using a temporary pacemaker. The chances of any meaningful neurological recovery in that type of situation are minimal. She might have already had a written advanced directive which specified no life-prolonging measures in that type of situation. The doctors probably laid out the facts to her family, and they made a decision to make her DNR.

by Anonymousreply 353January 14, 2023 9:33 AM

She always seemed like a repressed lesbian to me.

Did the Co$ make out with some of the EP Estate, after all?

by Anonymousreply 354January 14, 2023 9:37 AM

She didn’t kill herself, but she murdered her net worth.

by Anonymousreply 355January 14, 2023 9:54 AM

Was there any confirmation she was on a ventilator? If she had no heartbeat, is a ventilator any help anyway? I don’t think she was in a DNR situation. I read she lost her heartbeat a second time. Maybe they just weren’t able to bring her back.

by Anonymousreply 356January 14, 2023 12:53 PM

R352 That's my thought, too. She was likely unresponsive for at least an hour before her body was found, and I'm sure it was clear to everyone involved that she was essentially DOA.

by Anonymousreply 357January 14, 2023 1:05 PM

Cheesus Christ, people, re-read r352.

That's what has most obviously, likely, happened.

She wasn't Lisa Marie Lazarus.

What is this need among humans that a death, just because it happens to a famous person, requires an extraordinary cause or circumstance?

Hell, it's probably an extraordinary thing she lived this long, given her substance abuse. And that's not a criticism of LMP, it just a statement of reality.

I don't 2nd guess the family on their decisions here at all.

by Anonymousreply 358January 14, 2023 1:09 PM

r337 is right, that troll has been on here for years, I just realized he's the same guy who frequently comes up with these crazy drug cocktails on medical threads, stuff that could kill someone if they took his advice.

by Anonymousreply 359January 14, 2023 1:14 PM

They're saying 'no drugs or medication' were found in the room or near her, but does that mean anything conclusive ?

I think it was an OD - perhaps accidental.

by Anonymousreply 360January 14, 2023 2:44 PM

It's also possible that Danny or the housekeeper got rid of anything incriminating.

by Anonymousreply 361January 14, 2023 3:05 PM

At least she seemed emotionally devastated by her son’s death, similar to how most people would be. Compare that to Melissa Etheridge, who was like “I don’t care that my son died. He made his choices. I’m moving on with my life.”

by Anonymousreply 362January 14, 2023 3:11 PM

They’re calling it a DNR, but the family probably changed her status to “comfort measures only”… which is what they do to an ICU patient who isn’t expected to survive, and the family wishes to not prolong the death. They will remove the breathing tube and other invasive equipment, turn off the monitors, and let the person die naturally without any other interventions.

by Anonymousreply 363January 14, 2023 3:15 PM

[quote]Was this her first cardiac arrest? It seems strange that she would be brought to the hospital after a heart attack, aged 54, and the family would sign a DNR so quickly. From my (limited) medical knowledge,

by Anonymousreply 367January 14, 2023 4:53 PM

I can't think of a celebrity death I care less about.

Whatever celebrity aura she had was the second-hand fame that came from being the daughter of one of the biggest superstars to ever was the second hand fame that came from being the daughter of one of the biggest superstars to ever walk the Earth. Without that connection, who would give a shit about her?

And I still don't know what to make of the Wacko Jacko marriage. At the time, I figured it was 100% a PR move, a pathetic, obvious attempt to clean up his pedo image. The richest, most successful musical act of his generation, who could have plowed his way through every pussy on the planet, had somehow never been plausibly linked to any female in his adult life. And all of a sudden, he's married to a woman? Elvis' daughter no less? Yeah, right. And that cringe-inducing kiss on the MTV Awards...the entire world recoiled at the horrifying awkwardness. It looked like the first time he'd kissed a woman, ever.

Yet, when she spoke about it after the fact, she almost convinced me that it as real, at least for her. I don't know. I hate to think that she'd be so evil as to knowingly provide cover for a pedophile, but I still have my suspicions. And then I remember how she provided cover for the evil organization, Scientology (Xenu? What's that? Never heard of it!), and those suspicions only grow bigger.

R.I.P., I guess.

Rust In Piss.

by Anonymousreply 369January 14, 2023 5:37 PM

The fact that she married a pedophile made me think she was shallow

by Anonymousreply 370January 14, 2023 5:39 PM

She could've just been really dumb and inured to creepy stuff. One of her mom's boyfriend's "became attracted" to LMP. Dad (Elvis) was into Priscilla when she was 14. Then, LMP accuses 4th husband of having child pron on his computer. He accuses her of being sexual with their daughters.

In an interview, LMP said that Priscilla warned her not to marry Michael Jackson. Pris said: "Look at the timing." (Huge allegations coming at MJ about liking little boys.) LMP went ahead, anyway. MJ dragged her around like she was "proof" of him being straight and into adult women.

by Anonymousreply 371January 14, 2023 5:47 PM

"I don't care about her death, and here's a multi-paragraph essay explaining why!"

I don't care about the useless BRF...I just don't open those threads. And there are hundreds.

by Anonymousreply 372January 14, 2023 6:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 373January 14, 2023 6:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 377January 14, 2023 7:10 PM

She basically spent a decade in bed after the birth of her twins due to opioid addiction. I doubt she was a good mother and probably had enormous guilt about it. Her life was absolutely tragic.

by Anonymousreply 378January 14, 2023 7:11 PM

Too much money. She would've been better off becoming a Realtor or a nurse.

by Anonymousreply 379January 14, 2023 7:13 PM

Why is she dead?

by Anonymousreply 380January 14, 2023 7:14 PM

People "learn" how to parent FROM their parents or primary caregivers (usually). Does that mean Priscilla was a shit-show of a parent too? Real question, not snark.

by Anonymousreply 381January 14, 2023 7:17 PM

She did live with Elvis, part-time. She said he spoiled her and didn't discipline her. If I had to guess, neither Elvis nor Priscilla were great parents. Both were too self-involved.

by Anonymousreply 382January 14, 2023 7:26 PM

I wonder why LMP went through the effort and stress of IVF only to dive into addiction with two babies to care for.

If I preferred to be drugged all the time, I wouldn’t bring babies into it.

by Anonymousreply 383January 14, 2023 7:27 PM

[quote]Why is she dead?

by Anonymousreply 385January 14, 2023 7:57 PM

R381 Priscilla grew up in a military family, that’s how she met Elvis in Germany (?) when she was in high school. She seemed to be fairly grounded and tried to raise her daughter normally. I think she had lost her way a bit with her second marriage (and another child) that was probably a massive rebound from being Mrs. Presley.

by Anonymousreply 386January 14, 2023 8:22 PM

Was Priscilla ever married to the father of her son?

Priscilla was deep into Scientology when LM was a child, she raised her in that cult, out in Los Angeles of all places. That was a big part of the problem right there.

by Anonymousreply 387January 14, 2023 8:27 PM

I don't think Priscilla was grounded. Dating Elvis at 14, moving into Graceland while in high school.

Divorces Elvis, then moves in a guy who falls in love with Lisa.

She introduced Scientology into Lisa's life. Lisa was already bad enough with money. She didn't need Scientology siphoning off a percentage of her assets.

by Anonymousreply 388January 14, 2023 8:40 PM

Weren't there rumors that the Co$ was trying to lure MJ in through LM? Maybe they set up the bearding contract because LM was gay and MJ needed a distraction.

It's really surprising that she managed to break away from the cult at all. Especially if she still has family in there. Apart from Leah Remini, how many other high profile members have ever left? I thought that was quite a brave thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 389January 14, 2023 9:13 PM

The DM has a couple of articles today on her finances. She was spending $92,000 per month just before her death, including (I think it was) $28,000 on rent.

R343 We don't really type "lol" as adults anymore.

by Anonymousreply 391January 14, 2023 9:39 PM

[quote]The DM has a couple of articles today on her finances. She was spending $92,000 per month just before her death, including (I think it was) $28,000 on rent.

I read this - this is mind boggling that she's going through more $$ in one month than a lot of people make all year - only to have what appears to be a miserable & wretched life. I wonder if she was having to foot the bill for that weirdo hat wearing ex. But still, $92k per month is insane

by Anonymousreply 393January 14, 2023 10:03 PM

Ex-husbands Michael Jackson and Nicholas Cage were also profligate spenders, bad with money.

by Anonymousreply 394January 14, 2023 10:05 PM

I think LM could've coped with her father's death had her mother been more grounded, but Priscilla was kinda slutty and had all types of strange men around her daughter. I highly suspect there may have been SA and that alone will change you forever. As others have mentioned that cult got a hold of her at a young age and that just completed the trifecta of dysfunction. She never really had a chance even with all that money nobody taught her how to manage.

by Anonymousreply 395January 14, 2023 10:19 PM

That really is a staggering amount. I'll bet Tori Spelling never even wasted that much money.

by Anonymousreply 396January 14, 2023 10:22 PM

You can tell she was miserable her entire life. She’s better off dead.

by Anonymousreply 397January 14, 2023 10:28 PM

That's a little harsh, R397... but yes, she never seemed happy.

by Anonymousreply 398January 14, 2023 10:33 PM

R395, your post gave more compassion towards Lisa . I always got a haunted vibe from her.

by Anonymousreply 399January 14, 2023 10:36 PM

Not defending LM and her financial waste, she clearly had poor skills there. But most of us underestimate how grossly expensive it is to live in certain wealthy enclaves of LA and/or greater LA.

There's the $30k a month in rent, but that wouldn't include heat/electric, utilities and landscaping. There were car payments, auto insurance, gas, groceries, private school fees, salaries for a nanny, attorneys, a publicist. Health insurance premiums and healthcare for herself, kids, and possibly her first husband (who seems needy). She had a large monthly child support payout to her ex ($6k if tabloids are believed) and may have been supporting Priscilla or other relatives.

It really adds up. I think many celebrities have exorbitant monthly expenditures, more than we comprehend.

by Anonymousreply 400January 14, 2023 10:36 PM

Gavel me more compassion., ☝🏼. WTH is wrong with my phone

by Anonymousreply 401January 14, 2023 10:37 PM

Why is she *renting* a primary residence? This makes no financial sense.

by Anonymousreply 402January 14, 2023 10:55 PM

She probably couldn't afford that house outright, and no bank was going to touch her for a mortgage.

by Anonymousreply 403January 14, 2023 10:58 PM

What r400 said.

I've posted this before but here it is again.

I fell into conversation with a guy who had just retired from decades as a Hollywood based, union member, film crew job. He then took his benefits and savings and moved out of LA.

He said, "After seeing it up close, trust me, you would not want to be famous and living in LA. The cost of the lifestyle is enormous".

He went on and listed everything that r400 posted.

by Anonymousreply 404January 14, 2023 11:29 PM

Its perfectly alright to go through life with any level of depression that you are willing to tolerate, or even embrace. Its only if the individual sees it as a problem, ie not allowing that person to provide for their own needs, that it becomes a problem. Lisa Marie never wanted for basic needs I'm guessing, and her drug problems were obviously accommodated by those who surrounded her, so all in all, she had a decent enough life for her 54 years. She experienced motherhood and love from her family.

by Anonymousreply 405January 14, 2023 11:32 PM

DM also said she was renting a Maserati for $1900 a month.

by Anonymousreply 406January 14, 2023 11:46 PM

R392 The sane among us do neither.

by Anonymousreply 407January 14, 2023 11:49 PM

She could have done without a Maserati, I’m sure.

by Anonymousreply 408January 15, 2023 12:30 AM

Something similar happened to my deceased sister. After being found collapsed, she was transported with a faint heartbeat. At the hospital they tried this and that, but they had to attach a temporary pacemaker. Things seemed to stabilize, but due to her diseased/enlarged heart she later expired. The heart wasn't beating on its own.

by Anonymousreply 409January 15, 2023 12:50 AM

She needed to be leasing a Corolla, not a fucking Maserati.

by Anonymousreply 410January 15, 2023 12:58 AM

Peggy Lipton tried to get Elvis into Scientology when she dated him but Elvis was against it and said all they wanted was his money.

by Anonymousreply 411January 15, 2023 1:00 AM

It’s sad because she leaves behind young daughters and has outlived her mother but maybe death was a blessing for Lisa Marie. She looked so unhappy and like she was just going through the motions after Benjamin killed himself. She can finally rest now.

by Anonymousreply 412January 15, 2023 1:02 AM

TBH, she *always* looked unhappy. Except, inexplicably, in the Michael Jackson music video. It's mind-blowing.

by Anonymousreply 413January 15, 2023 1:05 AM

Riley seems sane. I hope her presence keeps those twins from going off the rails.

by Anonymousreply 414January 15, 2023 1:06 AM

I wonder if the combination of Benjamin’s suicide and the Elvis movie/Elvis’s birthday/Austin Butler’s Golden Globe win was too much for her.

by Anonymousreply 415January 15, 2023 1:06 AM

I just watched an interview with Riley where she talked about dealing with her grief from her brother’s suicide. I can’t imagine how she feels now.

by Anonymousreply 416January 15, 2023 1:07 AM

I just think of what I could do with $92K per month! In a few short years, I could set myself and a few DLers up for life.

by Anonymousreply 417January 15, 2023 1:27 AM

*winks at r417*

by Anonymousreply 418January 15, 2023 1:44 AM

She wasn’t supporting Priscilla. Priscilla is an excellent businesswoman and good with money.

by Anonymousreply 419January 15, 2023 1:55 AM

The DailyMail article gives the entire backstory on the fortune LMP allegedly squandered.

In reality, she sold off most of the interest in the business that Priscilla started, way back in 2005, including merchandising and licensing of Elvis' likeness. LMP walked away from that deal with 40 million and control of Graceland.

By 2010 the value of her all properties tanked and she couldn't reinvest in Graceland, because of the recession. She had a failed music career by then too. Her wealth was way too tied up in real-estate, and by the time she realized she was overspending it was too late. Not to mention all money issues with her ex. Very unfortunate.

I tried to tell her that her son's suicide was no big deal, but she refused to listen to me.

And now this.

by Anonymousreply 421January 15, 2023 3:15 AM

I wonder if her family requested an autopsy? The Presley’s have a history of heart problems. And drug abuse. A bad combination.

Well, at least it should be noted that Lisa Marie's life puts their whingeing into perspective.

by Anonymousreply 423January 15, 2023 4:21 AM

So $92,000 a MONTH?

by Anonymousreply 424January 15, 2023 4:57 AM

If she had been smarter with her assets (created passive income), she could be quietly spending $92,000 per month and enjoying life. She sold off her licensing rights to Elvis's name for a lump sum, then blew through the lump sum.

by Anonymousreply 425January 15, 2023 5:02 AM

Priscilla should have said, "You have two very young kids. For their sake, you should err on the side of caution and assume the allegations are true." Priscilla (or any sane person around Lisa Marie) must have been mortified.

by Anonymousreply 426January 15, 2023 5:27 AM

Fine for her, I guess, but being a drug addict really messes up your kids.

by Anonymousreply 427January 15, 2023 5:45 AM

Priscilla should have kept the money and doled it out as needed, like Candy/Tori Spelling. But I guess if Lisa owned Graceland- and that was their big moneymaker- then Priscilla had no control.

I remember after Elvis died there were endless K-tel type commercials on TV selling greatest hits collections, etc. Then artists were doing their own 'tribute' cover albums. Who owned those dang songs?

Maybe now Priscilla can take control of the estate and make it profitable again?

by Anonymousreply 428January 15, 2023 6:14 AM

☝🏼unless Pricilla is an unfeeling monster, I would think she’s completely devastated over this .

[quote]Priscilla should have kept the money and doled it out as needed, like Candy/Tori Spelling. But I guess if Lisa owned Graceland- and that was their big moneymaker- then Priscilla had no control.

I think the money legally became Lisa’s, once she reached a certain age. Based on Elvis’ will.

by Anonymousreply 430January 15, 2023 7:46 AM

Priscilla won’t have control over (what’s left of) the estate, unless she was named in Lisa Marie’ will.

by Anonymousreply 431January 15, 2023 8:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 433January 15, 2023 9:58 AM

I think she was very much a daddy's girl - she idolized him and he spoiled her rotten as a child. She seemed to quite clearly have a lot of resentment toward her mother. Once Elvis was gone it was impossible for her to feel that kind of love ever again. The material things, like the drugs, only provide a temporary high.

by Anonymousreply 437January 15, 2023 11:56 AM

What does it matter what critics think? Can't people make up their own minds?

I like her music. Did she have help from production? Sure. So does pretty much everyone in pop music these days.

She wasn't Elvis, obviously. But she wasn't a complete joke a la Lourdes Leon either.

She started getting Hugh at 14. Lifelong drug addict. I’m always shocked that nobody noticed she marries MJ because they had drugs in common. He could obtain anything any time. Epic drug addicts. I don’t think she had much of a career because of the drugs. Early trauma and childhood depression are no joke. They should be treated as a threat to life. Instead she was brought to a cult by the mother. I’m curious that half of her family is still in a cult, how wasn’t she branded an suppressive person and ignored? That doesn’t make sense.

Elvis loved reading the bible and was a devout Christian. no way he would change religion

by Anonymousreply 456January 16, 2023 10:52 PM

He wouldn't have been changing religions, he would have been giving up his religion in favor of a cult.

by Anonymousreply 457January 17, 2023 12:27 AM

Elvis being distrustful of the clams makes me respect him all the more. If he'd lived, he would have been furious about LM falling under their influence, and would have worked to stop it.

by Anonymousreply 458January 17, 2023 12:28 AM

Thank God our period of national mourning is over for this untalented and inconsequential nepo/trust-fund baby.

What did she ever actually DO? I know of zero accomplishments from this lady. She took a lot of drugs and she made poor choices in marriage partners. Wacko Jacko, Nic Cage, and two other drug addicts besides the famous ones. And she was in the cult of Scientology for many years.

Did she even graduate from college?

by Anonymousreply 459January 17, 2023 12:34 AM

R459, forget college, she never even finished high school. We're talking about a woman who thought it was a good idea to marry a child molester

by Anonymousreply 460January 17, 2023 12:58 AM

Elvis Presley was in a bad business arrangement with Col. Parker that he (Elvis) didn't have the balls to get out of. Towards the end of his life, Elvis was taking some weird jobs. I don't Elvis was great with money.

by Anonymousreply 461January 17, 2023 1:01 AM

Elvis was a very generous person, he bought all his good friends cars and rewarded some friends and employees with houses.

by Anonymousreply 462January 17, 2023 1:17 AM

I don't think Lisa's kids will be invested in keeping Elvis's memory alive. They had no personal connection to him and Riley built a successful career without leaning on the Presley name.

by Anonymousreply 463January 17, 2023 1:22 AM

Graceland does seem like a money-maker, though. They should be interested in taking care of Graceland, even if it's seen as a money-generating asset vs. a home.

by Anonymousreply 464January 17, 2023 1:28 AM

One of the most interesting aspects of Graceland is its location.

It's on a busy city street filled with fast food places and hotels.

All of a sudden, there it is, perched up on a landscaped rise.

by Anonymousreply 465January 17, 2023 1:35 AM

When Elvis bought Graceland it was a more rural area. Memphis grew around it.

by Anonymousreply 466January 17, 2023 1:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 468January 17, 2023 2:30 AM

[quote]I don't think Lisa's kids will be invested in keeping Elvis's memory alive. They had no personal connection to him and Riley built a successful career without leaning on the Presley name.

You're kidding right? It's their grandfather's image and memory that pays their bills, literally (except for Riley's acting career). LM was getting a million+ in revenue every year from Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises. Licensing of his image makes millions, still.

r468 Graceland is going to Riley and her two younger half-sisters.

by Anonymousreply 469January 17, 2023 2:32 AM

I think people are sad about LMP because of her sad life, despite all of the fame and wealth. She's also one of the last people who was closely connected to Elvis, who remains a huge icon decades after his death - one could argue he was one of the pivotal American icons of the 20th century.

She died young and before her time, just like her father.

by Anonymousreply 470January 17, 2023 2:35 AM

Riley never knew Elvis and has a lot of generational trauma associated with him, so if she doesn’t want to focus on keeping his memory alive you can’t blame her. At the same time, even though she’s talented the only reason she has an acting career is because she is Elvis’s granddaughter.

by Anonymousreply 471January 17, 2023 2:38 AM

Her death makes me a little sad because as a child (we are close in age) I imagined she had the luckiest most beautiful life. I loved her.

As an adult, I had compassion for her, because she seemed really down all the time.

And it’s just interesting that she was the daughter of a major American icon.

She didn’t have to do much or achieve anything to be of interest to many people.

by Anonymousreply 472January 17, 2023 2:39 AM

It’s also sad because it shows how quickly things can change. She was just celebrating Austin Butler’s Golden Globe win for his portrayal of her father and then two days later she’s dead.

by Anonymousreply 473January 17, 2023 2:40 AM

Lisa was hoping Austin would win the Oscar too. I’ve been rooting for him to win but Brendan Fraser will probably win.

by Anonymousreply 474January 17, 2023 2:41 AM

Painful interview with Diane Sawyer in the wake of Jackson's out-of-court settlement. MJ is all coy charm and wide-eyed innocence, as though he can't quite believe anyone would find it odd for a man to keep sleeping with children after paying $23m to an alleged molestation victim. Lisa Marie is waspish and defensive AF, but even she looks vaguely uncomfortable at points when MJ is discussing his "sleepovers". No human could watch this interview and sense even the mildest sexual chemistry between the newlyweds.

After watching part of the video at R475 I'm reminded of when Liza told Larry King that Michael's real voice is actually deep and that his public voice is affected. Wonder if Lisa Marie wished he would stop talking in that high-pitched "public" voice.

by Anonymousreply 478January 17, 2023 5:29 AM

Please, his real voice was never deep. That's what his fans say because they won't admit he had gayvoice

by Anonymousreply 479January 17, 2023 5:38 AM

How did the divorce between MJ and LMP play out? Did she walk away with money or real estate? I know she entered the marriage with her own wealth, but she may have been entitled to some of MJ’s earnings during their marriage.

by Anonymousreply 480January 17, 2023 5:45 AM

That's a great photo of her with Nic Cage at R477.

by Anonymousreply 481January 17, 2023 5:46 AM

R479, years ago Liza was on Larry King Live and told him that she had picked up the other line of the telephone not realizing (her then husband) David Gest was using the phone. He was talking to Michael Jackson and she only heard a deep voice on the other end and asked who it was. They both laughed (David and Michael) and said it was Michael and David explained that Michael talks in his real voice when he's discussing serious business matters. Larry questioned her a little on it and she insisted that, surprising as it was to her, his voice is actually deep and very different than what she was used to. Don't know if Liza would lie about it, but that was her story.

by Anonymousreply 482January 17, 2023 5:48 AM

The video at R475 shows how pretty Lisa Marie was. Her mom was beautiful, of course, but she really took after her dad, as did her son. She had beauty and fortune...it will never make sense that she married MJ.

by Anonymousreply 483January 17, 2023 5:52 AM

A dumb pampered drug addict who married and defended a beyond creepy pedo. Her life went drastically worse after marrying him. Her drug habit deepened, she exposed her kids to him. When her son committed suicide, I thought if Jackson in his life. There’s a YouTube video of LMP with both of her kids and Jackson in Africa. Creepy pedo w her kids hanging on him. Jackson’s boytoy in the thumbnail is looking sad. But still - he had boys around ALWAYS. I wonder if he was wearing his tampon in his ass as he was so fond of.

Drugs. Drugs were in it for LMP.

For those DLrs who want to attend her public memorial service, the festivities begin this Sunday, January 22 at 9 am on the front lawn of Graceland. This is where she will be laid to rest, next to her son who died in 2020, and her father who died in 1977. I'm sure there will be tee shirts, and other souvenirs to commeorate the event - bring your own lawn chairs and picnic baskets if you don't want to pay top dollar for a corn dog.

by Anonymousreply 489January 17, 2023 4:00 PM

Mutual bearding situation with MJ.

Watching your superstar father die in front of you at 9 years old would fuck anyone up. I doubt Priscilla got her any legitimate therapy and instead left it to the Co$. Just like she sent LM to Co$ for drug rehab. I mean, it’s no wonder she was a mess. Unhealed trauma, being used and abused by a cult, inherited addictive tendencies, the list goes on.

This is her song about leaving Co$. The lyrics are simple but poignant. People can dismiss her music all they want, but I don’t think she was bad at all. Kind of a Joan Osborne, Sheryl Crow vibe. It’s impossible to measure up to The King, and I am sure she was sensitive to the inevitable comparisons. I don’t think she wanted to be a star but to say she did “nothing" in her life is just wrong.

by Anonymousreply 490January 17, 2023 4:03 PM

How was she able to leave COS while most of her family was still in? Did she really ever leave? Why wasn’t she labeled a suppressive person?

by Anonymousreply 491January 17, 2023 4:07 PM

R482, there are secret recordings of him. His voice was not deep

by Anonymousreply 492January 17, 2023 7:11 PM

His ass was though.

by Anonymousreply 493January 17, 2023 7:14 PM

I'd kind of forgotten about LMP's "Jacko" phase; it significantly decreases any compassion for her since she knowingly (if she didn't know, Priscilla certainly did) exposed her small children to a pedophile, particularly given that for whatever reason, her son was a very damaged young man that eventually killed himself.

by Anonymousreply 494January 17, 2023 7:22 PM

Do you think Lisa Marie ever pegged Michael?

by Anonymousreply 495January 17, 2023 8:24 PM

I wonder if they will move Jacko's body to Graceland, so he can be buried next to the love of his life ?

by Anonymousreply 496January 17, 2023 8:25 PM

Lisa Marie was molested by one of Priscilla’s boyfriends for years. Small wonder that she’d be ambivalent about her pedo husband.

by Anonymousreply 497January 17, 2023 8:28 PM

I also heard MJ’s voice when he was speaking with his vocal coach and his voice was deep.

If you watch LMP’s interview after MJ died (I think with Oprah), she gets into their relationship a bit more. Basically the only other person she ever met who could radiate intense charismatic love the way her father did, was MJ. It made a sick kind of sense to me after watching that interview.

by Anonymousreply 498January 17, 2023 8:34 PM

I highly doubt Michael touched her son. They weren't even married that long. Did they even live together? She accused the next husband of having child porn on his computer. Are we noticing a pattern here?....

by Anonymousreply 499January 17, 2023 8:47 PM

Benjamin would have been a toddler when they were married. As much as I think MJ was a creep, I think that would be a little too young even for him. However, as LMP's kids grew up, they clearly would have started to realize what kind of person their mother had brought into their lives. That alone could be traumatizing. It is interesting how the patterns repeat - LMP says Priscilla's boyfriend would come into her room...I believe MJ was also likely molested as a kid. None of which excuses anyone's behavior as an adult, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 500January 17, 2023 8:57 PM

[quote]R498 Basically the only other person she ever met who could radiate intense charismatic love the way her father did,

Surprised that any woman would describe Michael Jackson this way. He always seemed so fake and weird, and it's really uncomfortable listening to him in interviews. He seems dumbly manipulative, but not at all charismatic or "loving".

by Anonymousreply 521January 18, 2023 2:22 AM

I'm the one who quoted Liza regarding Jackson's supposedly deep voice. I (along with Larry King) found it hard to believe, but didn't realize she might be lying. Why would she do that? Strange person, too I guess. Anyway, I'm no fangirl of Michael Jackson in any way, shape or form.

by Anonymousreply 522January 18, 2023 2:27 AM

I think "deep voice" is relative. People like Liza and LMP may just be comparing his private voice to his public (high-pitched) voice. He probably has a speaking voice similar to his brothers Jackie and Tito.

Lisa Marie's death affected me more than I think any other celebrity death. I had hoped she would come to terms with her sexuality and have a loving relationship with another woman since it appears denying who she was may have been part of her unhappiness. That was before her son died. I hope she is at peace.

by Anonymousreply 535January 18, 2023 7:14 PM

It would explain why she was able to stay close friends with Danny Keough and why she didn’t seem to look for a normal attractive man after him. I think she married Lockwood just so she could have another child or two. She wasn’t really fit as a mother but I think she craved that bond because it was the only love she knew that felt like the love she had for Elvis.

by Anonymousreply 536January 18, 2023 7:24 PM

Lisa supposedly did have lesbian lovers during her marriage to Lockwood (Lockwood's girlfriend tweeted that was one reason for the breakup) and a live-in girlfriend during the last few years but notice how very few people mention this? When I mean a loving relationship, I mean a woman who everyone knew about and was seen as Lisa's loving partner. It seems like a dirty little secret.

by Anonymousreply 538January 18, 2023 8:25 PM

Lisa was attractive and I liked her fashion sense (somewhat conservative), but both Elvis and Priscilla had striking good looks. Priscilla looks somewhat OK now, but for a while she was heading into Cat Lady territory.

I've enjoyed going to Memphis for weekend trips since I was a child, raised by 2 generations of Elvis fans. Beale Street is a good time, there's so much history and atmosphere in that particular part of Memphis. Graceland is a must for a visit, but it has turned into an amusement park vibe. My fondest memories are pre-museum where it was just Graceland, a few of the cars across the street and a tour of the Lisa Marie. No frills.

by Anonymousreply 540January 18, 2023 9:52 PM

I have family ties to Memphis r540, and have also been there several times over the past decades. My great grandmother was visiting Memphis, near Graceland, when the news hit in August 1977 that he had died; she was one of the hundreds of people milling around outside the gates that afternoon/evening.

The house and grounds have become very touristy, but I guess that would be inevitable. Memphis hugely benefits from the tourist money, the hotels and restaurants nearby employ hundreds and reap needed dollars. I would assume that should the family ever want to sell the property, the city would take it over, possibly designate it a National Historic or Cultural site (or whatever they call similar places).

by Anonymousreply 541January 18, 2023 10:30 PM

[quote] Priscilla looks somewhat OK now, but for a while she was heading into Cat Lady territory.

She still looks like a walking cautionary tale against bad cosmetic surgery.

by Anonymousreply 542January 18, 2023 10:37 PM

I went to Memphis a couple of years ago. I must have gone at a bad time because I thought Beale Street was overrated. It was interesting to see other places, though, like Sun Studios, Overton Shell, Lorraine Motel, etc. And I finally understood what Priscilla meant when she said you can feel Elvis's spirit in Graceland. There is a feeling I got there I never got at places that are historic and/or haunted. It was eerie.

I guess the difference between Lisa Marie and the Sinatra kids is that the Sinatras had a more stable mother/childhood home. Nevertheless, I do compare them and I must admit it does baffle me (as a blue collar nobody with parents who have no money/assets) why none of these A-list children/grandchildren are interested in getting an education. Tina Sinatra has been hanging around Beverly Hills, chairman of her father's licensing company, feuding with her step mother and making mini series and books about her father....Surely, 'Frank in a wig' would have had a bug career in business, law had she paid her way into a great school. Nancy and Frank Jr had minor careers of their own. Not a chance either would have had those careers if they came into town on Greyhound. Little online about the grandchildren but I see Nancy's daughter was gigging recently .....playing Sinatra songs! Here we go again!

Lisa Marie and her children (so far) have gone the same way. Show business or making money off the patriarch.

While the Sinatra's are more stable I can't help but also think what a waste of the 'lottery ticket' Your total output is a mini series about daddy and negotiating pasta sauce with his face in it? A minor pop career and then nothing? A degrading 'career' in his shadow for Jr where you suck by caparison and play Florida retirement communities? Why don't they think broader. Travel, get a connection, use connections for good off camera jobs? Is it that when you grow up in total luxury going to 5 star hotels, going to Europe, flying first class that everything else pales so you just try to hang i that lifestyle? Perhaps there's o incentive at all to go to a good school and work as a lawyer earning a million a year when you already have the comforts that such a career would provide? I dunno but seems kinda sad to me.

by Anonymousreply 546January 19, 2023 5:38 PM

I feel the same way about the younger Kennedy generation R546. A after Ted passed away I wondered who would take over from there but this new generation of Kennedys don't appear to have any political ambition which is kinda baffling. I guess they dont have to, I would probably just coast on my family name as well. They might be the closest thing America has to a royal family.

by Anonymousreply 547January 19, 2023 5:49 PM

The new generation of Kennedys don't seem to have much political ambitions probably because of the cost and toll it took on their elders. Years of scandal, assassinations, paparazzi chases and living under a glaring spotlight did not make the senior Kennedys happy or healthy. Why bother with all that, when you can do public service work in the private sector? As many of the younger Kennedys do.

Most of the younger Kennedys are very highly educated, from what I can tell. They aren't sitting around in Dubai or Ibiza partying and pretending to be DJs. Most of them have held positions or had good jobs.

by Anonymousreply 548January 19, 2023 6:44 PM

Am I right in thinking that the expectation for a young Kennedy type is that they have to get an education. education and having a prestigious job or some sort is a requirement and the parents put pressure on them to achieve this.

The Presleys (and other showbiz families) don't seem to put any focus on education or jobs. They send their kids to those crazy expensive private schools but then most of them filter into modelling, acting, starting a band. Parents buy them a 2-3 million house in LA or NY and many of them just knock about into their 40s with no success, a few rehab stints, an Instagram full of 'doing nothing in pretty places' and once in a blue moon they do an indie film or work with their parents or write a book about their parents. Do the parent's raise them with no understanding of the world and the career options that exist outside of the industry? I *almost* feel bad for them because surely the private schools keep them in a bubble too. It's like the opposite of being raised in public housing (my life) and having no idea that you can actually go and become a teacher or an accountant and get away from welfare and retail jobs.

R549, most showbiz people became successful without having gone to college. So, it makes sense that the children don't see the value of "wasting" time past high school. In reality, it has worked out well (financially) for a lot of these 2nd generation showbiz people.

by Anonymousreply 552January 19, 2023 8:27 PM

Often there is one successful sibling and the rest are very much on the parent's payroll. The less successful kid(s) would be better off with a non showbiz job if their parents were not funding them. Melanie Griffith, Goldie Hawn, Debbie Reynolds, Tom Hanks, Demi Moore, Marc Platt - all have 1 very successful child and then others on the showbiz margins living off the parents. Lisa Marie had Riley doing well and earning good money and then Benjamin living home with nothing happening career wise. Can't help but think the college experience would have been very good for him especially a school that allowed him to meet people from all walks of life. Melanie Griffith's son Alexander Bauer and her step-son Jesse Johnson are 36 and 41 years old still messing about as 'musicians.'

I'm guessing that a lot of these showbiz children struggled to make it through high school. The showbiz people are known for their looks, not brains. Lori McLaughlin (bribed her kids' way into USC) is, I guess, anecdotal. Her daughters, at least the more outspoken one, seemed dumb.

But, yeah, it would have been good to associate with people from more walks of life.

Jackie O made sure that JFK, Jr. and Caroline earned education credentials even though they were financially set and didn't need to.

It seems that for a certain segment of the wealthy elite, higher education credentials function as a value in and of itself, a status signifier.

For decades, the non-wealthy lower crust used higher education credentials as a tool of upward financial and social mobility.

That worked for those who could benefit from a family and racial support system where it was expected that a college degree was on the agenda, because, in fact, back then, advanced education credentials did result in increased salaries and upward social mobility.

Now, in this new world, I'm not sure how any of that works.

Elvis was born dirt-poor white. Priscilla must've had some exposure to knowing the value of higher education because her Dad was an Officer in the Air Force.

Parenting is hard. I can't 2nd guess the decisions of parents, but I can see the results of poor parenting. I can't help but wonder if Elvis and Priscilla didn't do right by Lias Marie in not instilling in her the value of education.

One spoiled grouchy ole broad.

by Anonymousreply 566January 21, 2023 3:40 PM

MJ was surprised she didn't have a penis and LMP was surprised that he did!

by Anonymousreply 567January 21, 2023 6:15 PM

It's in total keeping with how the Presleys did things at Graceland r560. Remember, it's a world famous home (third most visited in the US) and basically a museum at this point. LMP is already privately buried, so this is just the public celebration. The family gravesite has always been open to the public, there will be many who'll want to see LM's resting spot.

I think one value of higher education is it can help give a feeling of accomplishment, which many children of famous parents could use.

Priscilla bragged that she cheated her way to a hs diploma. She would have dropped out but her parents made it a condition of allowing her to live with Elvis. Priscilla and Elvis believed that life experience was the best teacher.

Has anyone read a book about PP called Child Bride? Apparently it rips her to shreds.

by Anonymousreply 571January 22, 2023 12:59 AM

Anyone else watching the memorial in the morning?

by Anonymousreply 572January 22, 2023 1:06 AM

Child Bride was written by the guy who introduced Priscilla to Elvis. He claims that Priscilla agreed to sleep with him so she could meet Elvis.

I might try to find the livestream r572, if I'm not doing anything else. Others will summarize it here.

Does anyone know why LM and her son Benjamin are buried in above-ground sarcophagi, and not underground like Elvis and the rest of the family are in the same plot? Is that a Scientology thing or something else.

by Anonymousreply 574January 22, 2023 4:11 AM

lost weight too late...

and now we've got to pretend she was an actual celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 575January 22, 2023 4:24 AM

R572 I might watch the memorial.

Well, if they find Shelly Miscavige buried next to Elvis, I'd say it's a Scientology thing.

by Anonymousreply 577January 22, 2023 4:52 AM

The Presley family plot is getting full.

by Anonymousreply 578January 22, 2023 4:55 AM

It will be interesting to see if the family keeps Graceland going. They probably need the money. I didn’t realize that Lisa Marie sold all but 15% of Elvis Presley Enterprises and blew through the lump sum they paid out fairly quickly. Considering Priscilla was the one who set up EPE into a very successful venture, she must have been dismayed when LM - taking over as she came of age - drove it right into the ground only to die in debt. Business people father and daughter were not.

by Anonymousreply 579January 22, 2023 5:37 AM

These above ground burials, especially when the rest of the Presley’s are below ground, is kind of different. Are they common in the south? First I’ve heard the term “sarcophagus” outside of ancient Egypt.

Kind of weird that they're moving son Benjamin's tomb, now. It's huge and heavy. What kind of planning was that? Obviously, LMP was going to be buried there, at Graceland. Maybe Benjamin's death was a surprise and nobody expected to have to bury him at Graceland. (Expectation was that he'd live longer, have his own family, get buried elsewhere.)

by Anonymousreply 581January 22, 2023 5:51 AM

It wasn't intended to be a graveyard. Elvis and Gladys were orginally buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

No it wasn't. It was written by Suzanne Finstad who also wrote two biographies on Natalie Wood.

You can bury someone's coffin on private property in the US? I didn't know that was possible. Ashes are one thing, but...really?

by Anonymousreply 584January 22, 2023 8:19 AM

I assume Priscilla will eventually be placed there as well.

by Anonymousreply 585January 22, 2023 8:40 AM

Is Pricilla still in Scientology?

R584 I'm getting a few tweets in my feed lately from right wingers who say they can avoid property tax by burying someone on their property. By reaction is also really? and unfollow. But it must be allowed under certain circumstances.

by Anonymousreply 588January 22, 2023 2:31 PM

This thread is getting full. I am going to start a thread on the memorial.
