Brit Awards nomination fall out

Please ^ not phrase ..damn autocorrect You don’t have “gender” categories, no women are nominated and then there’s an uproar. A friend suggested a non binary category. Just don’t even bring THAT into it.

This isn’t the fault of trans people rather than it just illustrates that, when it comes down to it, a voting group made up mostly of men will amplify men over women. it’s just exposing that generalized misogyny is still totally commonplace. There’s no shortage of talent from the women making music these days, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be represented in a mixed gender category…yet here we are. That’s not trans peoples fault, or people that advocated for genderless categories, it’s an establishment issue. Idk why the blame in these instances is always misplaced lol.

R3 that's so reductive. When you have a fixed amount of nominees and you make it a unisex category then naturally there's going to be a gender imbalance. Most times it will be women who will lose out. All because Sam Smith didn't want to be considered 'best male'. So ridic. Should have been awarded best seacow.

Of course there's going to be a gender imbalance if you have 5 nominees. Anyway, it would have been easier if they just gave the enbys their own category. Then some obscure mediocre musician who identifies as they could feel like they're on the same level as Harry Styles

I really don't get the point of awards shows anymore. What is the point, seriously. Why not just have genre shows or something - go back to those shows that just had a handful of people perform each week.

It's not "naturally" a gender imbalance, there's a gender imbalance because of sexism. Of COURSE men are going to take advantage of genderless categories and ice out women. That's what they do, unconsciously or not. It was foolish to try to make it a genderless category because there are simply more old, sexist men in these organizations than there are modern, younger people who will vote based on talent and without gender bias.

No, there is an "imbalance" because there are a finite number of nominations, and there will be OUTRAGE if there aren't enough nominees who fit various other categories who might protest louder.

The reality is that awards shows are now blue ribbons for participating and being the correct minority and women are represented in other categories in which those minorities may not be.

What defines a woman though? Surely trans women fall into the criteria to be nominated, meaning actual women still lose out.
