Timothee Chalamet's agent claims he hasn't auditioned for a part for seven years
First of all, why is one of the most powerful Hollywood agents even replying to stuff like this?
Secondly - we're really meant to believe that Chalamet hasn't had to audition since 2015? That'd be before Call Me By Your Name.
This PR strategy is really working overtime to try and make this guy seem like a prodigy, but it's just backfiring. It sounds ridiculous, and also makes them sound like assholes.

Might as well enjoy it while he can, he's about a movie away from Hollywood realizing that he can't carry a movie to profit.

This is the agent who just happens to be married to one of the producers on Call Me By Your Name. He wants to make as much money while he can on this kid so of course he'll brag about his client "not auditioning for anything in seven years." Like he's some sort of acting genius and the future king of Hollywood.

Is this something to proud of? I’d rather actors had to at least show they were right for a role & had chemistry with their screen partner, even if they are approached with them in mind.

Everyone auditions for Woody Allen, even for 5 mins (or less). So, if Timothee did his audition before 2016 this floats, although the movie was released several years after that (in Europe, then America). But, did he?

Bones & All went fairly quickly to VOD for $19.99 a pop. How much will that add to its take. All the young teens who couldn’t get into an R movie get to watch at home.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 8, 2023 7:49 PM

Not much. All his teen fans are only fans of him because he's the cool trendy thing to be a fan of. So since Bones & All flopped, they won't be interested in it. You can already see this with his fan accounts basically acting like it doesn't exist and declaring it a bad film (which he was a producer of)

Multiple people were up for Paul in Dune. Such a huge potential franchise wasn’t just given to Chalamet, a completely unproven box office draw. He may not have auditioned per se, but he definitely had to meet with Villeneuve, and I’m quite sure there were chemistry meetings and screen tests with Zendaya.

Those threads were probably made by a couple of Timothee stanning loons, who proceeded to fill them with inane bickering. A stream of threads doesn’t necessarily reflect popularity among DL at large.

Directors frequently say that kind of nonsense publicly R46. It almost never happens. Not for a giant franchise. I know of two actors who were seen for Paul, one of who was seen and tested several times. Chalamet was not the only person considered.

I've always been fascinated with how he got signed with this agent. He may not come from an acting family per se but I think the media and fangirls alike are oblivious to or deliberately ignore his connections. His aunt probably got him the job on Homeland. I can picture his headshot with the words Amy Lippman's nephew written on the back. After only I think the minor role on Homeland and an off off Broadway play, he gets signed with this elite agency. CMBYN had been in development hell for years. The agent told his producer husband that he had "found Elio." Does anybody else think it was more like I fucked Elio?

I think people turned in Timmy when it became well known that he is a jerk in real life. His outfits are for attention and he is also hyped through stupid memes.
Bones and All was a flop. I think his agent is threatened by other upcoming stars like Austin Butler or Paul Mescal who are a threat to Timothee.

Yeah it's a total Tom Hanks situation. People realized what an asshole he is. Getting high at The French Dispatch premiere, holding up the cast while he soaked in the applause, ignoring the press aide who told him to get out of the photo call, bullying the girl at LaGuardia, bullying at Manhattan Plaza, etc. I agree that the agent is definitely getting nervous. Bones & All was a test of his bankability and it was a flop. Elvis is arguably Austin Butler's breakout role so I don't think it was a sure bet at the box office. It was a commercial success. Also, Austin seems much more likeable than Chalamet.
