But, the call is coming from inside 'our' house, r95. The LGBTQ++NB youngsters are spreading its' use amongst themselves now, including ones who aren't even Gay.

Here's a short extract from a DL thread titled, [bold]The use of "faggot" by people who aren't gay men to describe themselves and each other[/bold]

(Quoting from the Op's opening paragraph of that thread) [bold]"[...]lately I just keep seeing online people who aren't gay men referring to themselves as "faggots" or talking about their "faggoty behaviour" or something like that. Often, they're straight or gay women."[/bold]

They're not right-wingers, but they sure as hell aren't doing us any favors.

Nor.

The proper way to use 'nor' is : 'You can't suck my dick NOR my balls'. Yet everyone says 'You can't suck my dick OR my balls'.

The proper way to use 'or' is: 'You can suck my dick or my balls'.

When there is a negative connotation in the sentence such as 'can't' or 'don't', etc. you use NOR. But no one ever does that any more. Everyone uses 'or'.

Another example: "I didn't grab his dick nor his ass." As compared to, " I did grab his dick or his ass. Guess which one! "

R149, I thought Brits still used "dungarees" instead of "overalls".

Love the word "water closet". So quaint and old timey.

"Chesterfield" has disappeared and has been replaced by "sofa" or "couch".

What has replaced "jet set"? 1 percent?

"Bromide" has disappeared, meaning a trite or unoriginal idea or remark, intended to soothe or placate; it can suggest insincerity. Maybe the word was never that popular in the first place.

I hope the word "pocketbook" (woman's handbag) disappears. Annoying, pretentious word.

R355 I guess you never learned that some states have open primaries or caucuses (where people can vote for a candidate of any political party), and others have closed primaries or caucuses, where you have to be a registered Democrat or Republican to vote in those primaries. In my state there are semi-open primaries, where, if you're an Independent, you have to temporarily register (in advance) as a D or R to vote in one of those primaries. (It discourages being an Independent, because it's a lot easier just to register as D or R, whatever you lean towards - rather than going through all the stuff they make you go through.)

by Anonymousreply 476January 22, 2023 9:45 PM

R475 as I understood that post the context was voting between parties so it didn’t seem to apply to primaries. New York has closed primaries so obviously I am aware that in many states registration determines access to primary voting.
