“Renfield”: Nicholas Hoult tries for stardom

Can he pull it off or is he just too round-headed?

Hoult has always been beautiful to me. He has gorgeous eyes and eyebrows. He’s a simple man, though, great for silly projects like this.

by Anonymousreply 1January 5, 2023 4:25 PM

It looks good. I’m glad to see the sassy gay from CBS’s Ghosts getting film roles.

by Anonymousreply 2January 6, 2023 6:28 PM

He's gorgeous, but can't act his way out of a paper bag. (see The Menu)

by Anonymousreply 3January 6, 2023 6:38 PM

Just watched The Menu a few nights ago. He wasn’t great but the whole movie was a slog

by Anonymousreply 4January 6, 2023 6:39 PM

He is perfect in "The Great" as a comedic foil.

by Anonymousreply 5January 6, 2023 6:42 PM

LPSG has all his leaked dick pix and fucking and getting blown by Jennifer Lawrence pix as part of the Male Fappening leak.

by Anonymousreply 6January 6, 2023 6:47 PM

Fell in love with him watching The Great, then felt gross when I realized he was the little kid in that Hugh Grant movie.

by Anonymousreply 7January 6, 2023 6:49 PM

Nic Cage is looking awful.

by Anonymousreply 8January 6, 2023 7:07 PM

His character in The Menu was a cipher. Other than having money and being desperate for the Chef's approval, you never have any idea who this guy is, what he does, and what makes him tick. So I don't blame him for a major fault in the script.

by Anonymousreply 9January 6, 2023 7:29 PM

The Menu was terrible. And I saw the movie just for him.

by Anonymousreply 10January 6, 2023 8:13 PM

[quote] Nic Cage is looking awful.

He’s supposed to, dope.

by Anonymousreply 11January 6, 2023 10:37 PM

He is gorgeous and was great as the bitchy villain in "The Favourite".

by Anonymousreply 12January 6, 2023 11:54 PM

I guess I am a dope but he looks especially bad and it shocked me.

by Anonymousreply 13January 7, 2023 2:01 AM

How the fuck is Dracula supposed to look, like this?

"He displayed his perfect pert little ass in "The Great" to great effect."

by Anonymousreply 15January 7, 2023 2:25 AM

R12- He's beautiful and quite funny in "The Favourite."

by Anonymousreply 16January 7, 2023 4:03 AM

He would be perfect to play Jared K in a black comedy about Trump.

by Anonymousreply 17January 7, 2023 6:50 AM

R17 beautiful Nicholas Hoult play fugly Jared?

by Anonymousreply 18January 7, 2023 10:21 AM

He still gets a free pass from me.

by Anonymousreply 19January 7, 2023 10:51 AM

What is that scene from, r19?

by Anonymousreply 20January 7, 2023 12:53 PM

R20 its the first season of Skins. Nicholas plays the charming but sociopathic Tony. The blond is the openly gay member of their group, Maxie. Tony keeps trying to "get off" with Maxie during their school trip, for a new experience. Right after that kiss he starts to blow him!

by Anonymousreply 21January 7, 2023 1:10 PM

Thank you, R21.

by Anonymousreply 22January 7, 2023 1:12 PM

[quote]Right after that kiss he starts to blow him!

And is promptly told that he is not very good at it.

by Anonymousreply 23January 7, 2023 1:16 PM

I loved him in The Favorite. I wish he'd been in it more. He was very funny.

by Anonymousreply 24January 7, 2023 1:21 PM

He was just as good as the three actresses in "The Favourite" but got comparatively little awards attention.

by Anonymousreply 25January 7, 2023 1:27 PM

He's in a film with Nicolas Cage, his movie career is essentially over. It can't go any lower without doing porn.

by Anonymousreply 26January 7, 2023 1:33 PM

Cage is having something of a career revival, r26.

by Anonymousreply 27January 7, 2023 2:17 PM

Nicholas Cage ruined Peggy Sue Got Married and cost Kathleen T the Oscar!

by Anonymousreply 28January 7, 2023 2:49 PM

Wow R26 you must be the only person who doesn’t know Nicolas Cage is having a Renaissance

by Anonymousreply 29January 7, 2023 3:32 PM

R29 I doubt many of us follow Nicholas Cage's career with any enthusiasm

by Anonymousreply 30January 7, 2023 5:33 PM

I sure do.

by Anonymousreply 31January 7, 2023 5:59 PM

So in order to avoid "What We Do in Shadows" comparisons, they decided to go MCU action? They should have leaned more into the off-beat elements.

by Anonymousreply 32January 7, 2023 6:29 PM

Opens this weekend with good reviews.

Stardom? Never. But he’ll keep working.

by Anonymousreply 34April 11, 2023 2:52 PM

I still can't believe this gorgeous man was the odd looking little kid in About a Boy.

by Anonymousreply 35April 11, 2023 2:56 PM

It's got Cage, Hoult AND Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Of course I will watch it.

by Anonymousreply 36April 11, 2023 2:58 PM

87 now

I’ll see it if it stays above 80

Most of the good reviews are by people whose taste I would never trust.

by Anonymousreply 38April 11, 2023 8:28 PM

Already down to 80

by Anonymousreply 39April 11, 2023 8:32 PM

I'm planning to watch Renfield.

I love Nic Cage. He has done a lot of shite films (for the money) but he shines through in some of the them: PIg, Color out of Space.

Dissenting opinion: I enjoyed The Menu immensely. Get the 1 percent baby.

by Anonymousreply 40April 11, 2023 8:36 PM

Nicholas is dreamy. And great cock.

by Anonymousreply 41April 11, 2023 9:09 PM

Yikes! Down to 62 now. Will probably settle in mid 50s.

Wait for Peacock it is.

by Anonymousreply 42April 12, 2023 11:57 PM

7mm opening

Back to television and indies

by Anonymousreply 43April 15, 2023 10:21 PM

Just watched it. Went into it basically knowing nothing except Cage was playing Dracula. I Fucking laughed my ass off. Very, very dark comedy - don’t go into it expecting much of a cohesive plot, but Hoult, Awkwafina, and Cage are lol hilarious, but it’s extremely gory, almost cartoonishly Tarantinoesque at times.

by Anonymousreply 44April 16, 2023 1:53 AM

R44 we get it, shill

ur vehicle is tanking titanically, so this is damage control

by Anonymousreply 45April 16, 2023 2:02 AM

R44 was the theater empty?

by Anonymousreply 46April 16, 2023 2:28 AM

I like Cage but can’t stand Awuavelva so no thanks.

by Anonymousreply 47April 16, 2023 7:06 AM

Not empty at all. It was entertaining but I thought the holes in the plot were pretty glaring. Cage probably should’ve had a bigger role. If the script were tighter, it would’ve been higher rated. The entire 12-step thread was pretty damn funny.

by Anonymousreply 48April 16, 2023 7:42 AM

Seen it. It's lots of fun. I concur with R44.

I still haven't finished digesting Nicholas Cage as Dracula... there's moments in the film when he's very reminiscent of Lugosi, and others when he reminds me of Lee. At a couple of points, the posture and appearance of his hands is like Nosferatu...

I'd very much like to see him reprise this role.

(Despite the film's denouement, the character's return is entirely possible. 'Renfield' is certainly open to sequels.)

by Anonymousreply 49May 14, 2023 4:55 AM

I thought it was hilarious. The CODA people, always victims, and they return to being victims with their second chance at life. Cage is great, throwback to "Vampire's Kiss". He plays a great vampire.

by Anonymousreply 50June 1, 2023 5:00 AM

I watched it last night on Peacock. I can’t recommend.

by Anonymousreply 51June 13, 2023 2:41 AM

Yes tried to watch it on Peacock too. It’s not good. It’s the plot of Little Shop of Horrors. Nicolas Cage as the Audrey 2 character and Hoult as Seymour are OK, but Awkwafina in the Audrey role? What were they thinking?

Little Shop lives and dies by the Audrey casting which is why Ellen Green owns the role. It’s the most important role in the movie! You can’t Awkwafina this!

I would eat his ass in a new York second

by Anonymousreply 53July 1, 2023 2:34 PM

I didn't enjoy the movie but Hoult is charming and handsome. He's playing rom com Hugh Grant from the 90s with that awkward handsome boyish/British persona.

This movie shouldn't have been made and shouldn't have been made at that budget level. Its not creepy or scary. Its not much of anything genre wise. I like the connection made above to Little Shop of Horrors, it does have a similarity to that, but doesn't function like little shop. although come to think of it, the visual palate might have been influenced by the little shop movie.

by Anonymousreply 54July 1, 2023 7:32 PM

Nicholas Gage is a DELIGHT in this movie.

by Anonymousreply 55July 27, 2023 4:20 AM

I liked it. It was funny and entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 56July 27, 2023 4:38 AM

Same here! I just watched this movie on United Airlines, and I fucking loved it.

Nicholas Hoult was gorgeous, as usual. His go-to look seems to be very pale and deathly ill looking, which I actually find attractive. Same look as in Warm Bodies, but better.

Nicholas Cage was hilarious! It was mostly thanks to his lines, but he played them the right way, and it came off well.

Shoreh is always great, and her voice actually seems to be getting deeper.

I was surprised that there were so many orientals in this movie, but that was probably Nic Cage's call, since he's married to an oriental woman.

As for the gore, it was actually my favorite part of the film. So many beheadings and exploding bodies. Rofl.

I know this was all thanks to Robert Kirkman (creator of The Walking Dead), who was a producer on this film.

I can't believe it wasn't more popular at the box office, because I could watch this movie over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 57December 8, 2023 11:39 PM

R57, were there any couloured people in the film?

by Anonymousreply 58December 8, 2023 11:41 PM

Thanks for directing me to that television show, R19.

I wish the makeout scene was longer, and the sex scene was better.

I never realized that Nick Hoult has a hairy chest.

He's always so pale and pasty, that I assumed his body is as smooth as a dolphin.

Apparently not.
