Bend it like Beckham
Watched it again over the weekend, and it still holds up.
It's such a fun movie!
Kiera Knightley was totally dykey and Jonathan Rhys Meyers was gorgeous (but still flaming), even through his Irish accent.
One question: Why did Kiera become such a huge star, but the Indian girl faded off into obscurity?
I think they're both solid actresses.

She’s worked pretty consistently since that movie.

"One question: Why did Kiera become such a huge star, but the Indian girl faded off into obscurity?"
Knightley was and is a pretty weak actress, but she's slim and very photogenic, and was considered suitable for "The Girl" roles. That's how young actresses get steady work in big films, they get cast as "The Girl", and at the time Knightley was someone who'd get offered those roles... while Nagra was not. No, those roles are almost entirely reserved for pretty white girls, and Nagra didn't meet Hollywood's narrow idea of fuckability.
So, Knightley made a career as "The Girl", and Nagra made a career as a character actress.

The tacit reason is that "Indian" isn't particularly popular outside of the sub-continent. Moreover, r6, "pretty white girls" have been a driving and lucrative force in Western media since, well, since Western media. Indians, not so much (none). Hence, "Blonde," not "Nagra."
In the Rolling Stone thread on the Top 200 Singers, someone suggested an Indian singer. Nope.

Let’s put it this way - Richard Curtis watched BILB and cast 17-year-old Keira Knightley as Chiwetel Ejiofor’s child bride. He cast Nagra in nothing.

Actually, I think the star out that movie was Archie Panjabi as Pinky. She's had a solid career, but not a career likely Knightly because, well...she's not a white skinny english rose

Keira has a unattractive body so this theory has holes. She's skinny sure, had a pretty face. But LONG torso, no tits, and terrible stubby legs. One reason she stays so thin is she would immediately be pear shaped if she had any fat.

When I first saw this film it confused the hell out of me.
I thought they meant Bend It Like (Brice) Beckham.

I hope it’s popular at least there.

Kiera was very much overexposed in Hollywood in the mid-2000s as the hot English girl. Basically the female Orlando Bloom. I don't think I've seen anything by her that stood out.
