The signing nun was a lesbian and afterward left the Order to go off with her partner. I wonder if Debbie ever suggested doing that story in a sequel.

As a survivor of The Sacred Heart School for God and Country, this is really triggering

Our nuns were of the "nut house or the nunnery" variety and seemed to hate us.

I love crazy lesbian nun stories. This one's a classic.

We learned this song in French class when I was in school. I remember how sad the singer’s life turned out. It’s a pitiful story.

The stage name invented for her was "Soeur Sourire", or Sister Smile, which was ironic since she was a depressive. Her little ditty "Dominque" made tons of money; the church got all the profits. After she left the order the government went after HER for the taxes on all the money that she DIDN 'T get. That was looming over the heads of her and her partner when they both committed suicide. What a sad story.

Sukiyaki (Kyu Sakamoto), Fingertips (Stevie Wonder), If You Wanna Be Happy (Jimmy Soul), He's So Fine (The Chiffons), Our Day Will Come (Ruby And The Romantics), Easier Said Than Done (The Essex), So Much In Love (The Tymes) were all NUMBER ONE hits in 1963 and none of the artists were white.

American Horror Story worked this song into the storyline in the second season:

from the article:

Of all the creepy things in American Horror Story: Asylum, one of the creepiest is the song that Sister Jude insists on playing in the rec room of Briarcliff Manor. As the inmates bash their heads against the walls and masturbate uncontrollably, they're forced to listen to a perpetual loop of "Dominique" by The Singing Nun.
