Not a fan. I think he is overrated. These days getting a first look deal with ANY network isn't that important. There is a reason the streamers passed on him. He isn't a star.

Speaking as someone who likes him, there’s an undeniable bitterness, sneering and seething resentment about him that comes across in his performances. It cuts both ways.

His recent over the top acting comes across as heavy handed and one note. He comes from another era, is old Broadway through and through, and is trying to shoehorn or “reinvent” his importance into this era like he’s a 20 year old and it’s not working well for him. He needs to act his age, take all the dresses off, and become more gentrified as the next Robert Guillaume, or find a post as an authority like a Black Ed McMahon.

I’m not hearing anything about him helping other actors either! He should be a bring back and host Star Search.

I think the success of Kinky Boots coming at such a late age - I wouldnt be surprised if he had been going through the motiions or virtually given up by this point plus the shift of tumblr-sphere to redefining trans and queer, plus the over top social justice movement of the last decade has led to this desperation of appealing to their sensibilities. Not unlike RuPaul who had a Devine moment in desperately wanting to be viewed as an authority and respected out of the drag as an actor, performer, etc discovered that wasn't an option. He was far too old and had been doing the character for too long. For billy, he stepped into the drag, he's forever Lola; Lola who has become a success, Lola who is unapologetically confident, Lola gets what Lola wants.

RuPaul has had a similar brand of bitterness, a hatred of his fan and also, didn't help anyone out. A entitled sense I'll get mine before I help anyone else. . . although unlike Ru, from what I've heard, Porter before this 'mega' fame was known for afternoon shows at various lounges, an old queen willing to disperse advice to the new forever ensemble kids, and now he's just another celeb, too big for that. So, wait twenty years for a revival and reality show to find the next Lola, and it'll be called charitable.
