Why haven't they remade "I Dream of Jeannie" yet?
Everything else has had a remake/reboot. Some multiple times!
Anna Faris would have probably been pretty prefect for that, but she may be a bit too old now.
Maybe Margot Robie could do it and finally be in something that doesn't lose the studios money.
And of course Chris Pine as Major Anthony Nelson.
This is a no-brainer.

I dunno OP. Maybe it's too unwoke? But for the life of me I can't figure out what they haven't remade Beulah!

I tried to rewatch it as an adult and just couldn't. Even I am too 'woke' to be able to enjoy it. Shame, I really loved it as a kid.

You probably couldn't do it. There is cultural appropriation, images of women being seen as subservient. I don't think a studio would touch it because it would piss everybody off.

A djinn is an Arabic (I.e. Muslim) spirit. You want to go there in 2023?

A blonde genie? No way could they get away with shenanigans like that today.

A blonde genie who calls her master, "master".

"I Dream of Jeannie" was perfect for the sixties time era. It wouldn't work now. A remake would destroy the show's legacy and no-one would watch it in 2023.
Surely someone in TV writers land has some fresh new ideas? No need to rehash and remake everything. There are plenty of books and stories that could be made instead.

Nobody wants to see a black trans Jeannie.

She hardly loses the studios money all the time, And Babylon flopping has more to do with opening during the "tripledemic" frenzy and a historical winter storm.

It would have to be super campy and tongue-in-cheek.

r12 which would ruin it as every other disaster remake of old tv shows....
besides, she would be strong, co-dependent, mary sue, who gets revenge on the patriarchy and teachers her master to check his privilege, stop chasing space and embrace mother earth by destroying elon musk.

I would probably watch a remake of Harper Valley PTA. In the right hands it could work in 2023. And instead of the scolds being hypocritical church ladies, the board would now be woke scolds who are obsessed with calling people out for misgendering and cultural appropriation. When the mom shows up at the PTA meeting, she would bring the receipts and snatch wigs.

There's an IMDB page that says a remake is "in development".

I'm gonna assume it's gonna stay in development.
If Jeannie is blonde - people are going to scream.
If Jeannie is Persian - people are going to scream.
If Jeannie calls Tony, master - people are going to scream.
If Dr. Bellows is gay or black or Asian - people are going to scream.
If Roger is gay or black or Asian - people are going to scream.
There is just no way anyone can win.

The cast is made up entirely of Tesla/Apple devotees. Major Nelson has Jeannie turn Elon Musk into a toy poodle that gets violated at a dog summer camp. Rodger is gay. Will Smith plays Jeannie, and he shows his belly button.

This show wouldn't have existed had the Sexual Revolution wasn't going on and networks wanted to test the limits.
Bewitched is a timeless classic that had a modern sensibility with the empowered women and used magic beings as proximities for minorities. Same reason The Addams Family endured. Bewitched could be remade and it would work.
I Dream of Jeannie was created to capitalize on Bewitched but add a softcore porn element of a beautiful blonde genie in a bottle wearing a skinny outfit (for 1965) who wants to serve her "master", a goodlooking young guy and they live together unmarried. The sexual tension and raciness sold it but it's so tame today. That's why it's so dated. The premise isn't funny today because society moved on.

So somebody IS trying!! Thanks, R18.
Ok, so maybe Jeannie doesn't have to be a white blond this time. And instead of calling him Master, she could be more assertive and call him by his first name. And instead of constantly fouling things up while trying to help, she could secretly be very resentful and purposefully trying to ruin his life and career out of spite.
But Chris Pine is still Anthony Nelson. I won't budge on that one.

Episode 1, Major Nelson comes out of his bedroom in the morning and trips over his dick.
Hilarity ensues.

It was a crappy knock-off of Bewitched. If anything should get remade into a movie or series, it should be Bewitched.

We need a real woke version of this show to reboot.
Ariana DeBose as "Jeannie"
Asia Kate Dillon as "Major Nelson" (but no clarification whether it's Tony or Toni)
RuPaul as 'Major Healey'
Ye as 'Dr. Bellows'

An earlier poster was right. If you want an unabashed remake of many of the TV titles of the 1950s through the 1990s, look for a porno.

R19 - Dr Bellows WAS gay (at least, the actor who played him was)
Now that would be a good remake - prissy closeted Dr Bellows snooping around NASA looking for unexplained phenomena.
