What about Pierce Brosnan? His first wife who died from cancer he adopted her children and he seems to love his second wife and it must be awkward because she gets mocked for her weight gain. He seems like one of the good ones.

by Anonymousreply 2December 17, 2022 5:35 PM

R1 Only Dirk Bogarde was gay?

R2 He is a good one! So is Timothy Dalton!

by Anonymousreply 3December 17, 2022 5:36 PM

R3- I decided several years ago that NONE of the actors who portrayed James Bond going back to 1962 have ever been heterosexual.

by Anonymousreply 4December 17, 2022 5:38 PM

R4 why?

by Anonymousreply 5December 17, 2022 5:41 PM

[quote] I have been thinking about the evolution of acting and personalities.

Why?

Do you have some kind of agenda or hypothesis?

What is your definition of "Perfect Gentleman"?

Are you aware you're talking about movie actors whose profession is lying and pretending to be others?

Do you think your analysis will be useful or give new insights or win you a PulitzerPrize?

by Anonymousreply 19December 17, 2022 11:09 PM

Gary Cooper

by Anonymousreply 20December 17, 2022 11:21 PM

Roddy McDowell

Ricardo Montalban

by Anonymousreply 21December 17, 2022 11:45 PM

OP, your list looks as though you attempted an alphabetical list.

But you have failed.

by Anonymousreply 22December 18, 2022 1:11 AM

This reminds me of an old gossip story when Sean Connery was filming "The Rock." Some of the cast and crew were on a boat headed to Alcatraz for filming. Connery made a pass at one of the male crew on the boat. The crew guy turned him down and Connery had some kind of hissy fit and sulked like a jerk for the rest of the boat trip.

Told to me by someone on the boat.

by Anonymousreply 23December 18, 2022 4:26 AM

Onscreen or off?

by Anonymousreply 24December 18, 2022 4:29 AM

Kirk Douglas

Fatty Arbuckle

Errol Flynn

Clint Eastwood

Eddie Fisher

Gig Young

by Anonymousreply 25December 18, 2022 5:07 AM

Zachary Scott.

(only flaw: prone to periods of depressive alcoholism, but always immaculately turned out nevertheless).

by Anonymousreply 26December 18, 2022 11:01 AM

Yes, perfect gentleman must be immaculately turned out.

We can't have perfect gentlemen being nude.

by Anonymousreply 27December 18, 2022 8:23 PM

Ossie Davis

Geoffrey Holder

Jerry Orbach

Tony Goldwyn

Peter Gallagher

Roger Rees

Nipsey Russell

by Anonymousreply 28December 18, 2022 8:36 PM

Not an actor exactly, but Alex Trebek

by Anonymousreply 29December 18, 2022 8:39 PM

Abe Vigoda

by Anonymousreply 30December 18, 2022 8:52 PM

Peter Cushing

by Anonymousreply 31December 18, 2022 9:02 PM

Christopher Lee.

by Anonymousreply 32December 18, 2022 9:07 PM

I don't think Burt Lancaster was a nice guy. Ralph Fiennes is an arrogant jerk.

I can think of only Gregory Peck on being a really nice person.

by Anonymousreply 33December 18, 2022 9:13 PM

[quote] Ralph Fiennes is an arrogant jerk.

He was a dribbling airline toilet whore.

by Anonymousreply 34December 18, 2022 9:15 PM

I once wished a certain rude crooner on R11's list a "Merry Christmas" as he passed my table at Nobu 20 years ago; he never did respond in kind and I never spent another dime on his music.

Snubs have consequences.

by Anonymousreply 35December 18, 2022 9:25 PM

Miles Heizer Connor Jessup Edvin Ryding Omar Rudberg

by Anonymousreply 36December 18, 2022 9:26 PM

Kevin Spacey. Not once has he ever sexually harassed a woman.

by Anonymousreply 37December 18, 2022 9:29 PM

R35 That man must be a BITCH.

He certainly wasn't a Perfect Gentleman.

by Anonymousreply 38December 18, 2022 9:29 PM

The third last on the list should have returned in 1960s.

There's nothing worse than an old man who wears out his welcome.

They are barely even actors, let alone gentlemen.

by Anonymousreply 42December 19, 2022 12:10 AM

Gentlemen don't exist anymore.

They died out in the middle of the last century.

by Anonymousreply 43December 19, 2022 12:12 AM

Ronald Colman, Basil Rathbone

by Anonymousreply 44December 19, 2022 12:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 45December 19, 2022 12:21 AM

There are no gentlemen in our century.

by Anonymousreply 46December 19, 2022 12:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 48December 19, 2022 12:33 AM

Off the top of my head, I would just choose Pierce Brosnan, Dan Rather, and Brendan Fraser. Maybe James Garner, but I don’t know enough about his personal life, really.

Does being a gentleman mostly include being kind and not being personally messy?

by Anonymousreply 57December 19, 2022 2:22 AM

Young men no longer aspired to be a 'gentleman’ by the year 1960.

It became a label for lavatory doors.

by Anonymousreply 58December 19, 2022 2:24 AM

Paul Newman. He made some mistakes, had some regrets, and also did some very great things.

by Anonymousreply 59December 19, 2022 3:34 AM

Vincent Price

by Anonymousreply 60December 19, 2022 4:06 AM

James Garner

by Anonymousreply 61December 19, 2022 4:13 AM

OP, Ralph Fiennes is a horndog, and got in trouble for fucking a stewardess on an airline flight in the bathroom.

Some "perfect gentleman."

by Anonymousreply 62December 19, 2022 4:17 AM

Freddie Highmore

by Anonymousreply 63December 19, 2022 4:23 AM

Ralph = perfect whore.

by Anonymousreply 64December 19, 2022 4:24 AM

Roddy McDowell Christopher Reeves total fags.

by Anonymousreply 65December 19, 2022 5:09 AM

Stanford University says this thread needs to be banned.

It is both 'sexist' and 'ablest'.

by Anonymousreply 66December 21, 2022 5:15 AM

Reeve, not Reeves.

by Anonymousreply 67March 29, 2023 3:14 AM

Edward Redmayne, OBE.

by Anonymousreply 68March 29, 2023 12:28 PM

Roger Moore wasn't nice to his first wife, the singer Dorothy Squires. He took advantage of her fame and cheated on her, his whole career came about because of her influence. He was a knitwear model when they met, financing his shot at Hollywood ruined her.
