Gone with the Wind premiered in Atlanta 83 years ago today

It was once hailed as one of [italic]the[/italic] classics but now... times have changed. Is it a classic still or going to be forgotten or shunned?

It’s pretty to look at but I’ve never been a fan. Yes I know turn in my gay card.

Typical 30s corn under all the glitz.

It is still a great classic and one of my all time favorite movies! Vivien Leigh deserved that Oscar as the iconic Scarlett. Long live Gone With The Wind!!!

Didn’t TCM say they would no longer air it?

I missed this if it was a thread... everybody from GWTW is gone for good (he was the last surviving credited cast member.)

That ain't fittin'

I think they pulled it briefly and then stuck an interpretive message in front of it.

Such a joyous time in America. Everything was so simple and free. Neighbors were kind and no violence.

Is an interpretive message like an interpretive dance, r9?

by Anonymousreply 12December 15, 2022 3:49 PM

Well, lots of wiggling involved, R12, yes, so I guess so.

Luigi arms and jazz hands!

I still remember the old GWTW thread where dozens of people insisted that the film had been permanently banned, could not be shown or purchased anywhere anymore, "and this is why Trump will win." It was mass hysteria.

Are we talking about the movie or song of the same title? Or the air freshener?

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2022 2:49 AM

Way back when, this was being shown by the film club at my college and I invited a black friend to see it with me.
