Jarvis Cocker of Pulp vs Damon Albarn of Blur/Gorillaz

What's everyone think of these two legends and has anyone on DL ever met either of them?

by Anonymousreply 59January 6, 2025 10:46 PM

I like Jarvis better.

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2022 7:38 AM

Jarvis was so hot before he hit 35. His dong must be filled with hot smegma. Awesome!

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2022 7:39 AM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2022 7:43 AM

Isn't Damon from wealth?

The Blur bassist was so hot. He's the guy who literally blew millions up his nose due to his coke habit.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2022 8:07 AM

Alex James has a history of issues.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2022 8:31 AM

[quote]Alex James has a history of issues.

What other issues? I don't know much about him, except he was very good looking. Blur was one of those bands, that I listed to the music, but didn't follow much about their personal lives.

I do remember seeing documentary about the band, think it was on BBCAmerica. He supposed got his shit together and now has a goat cheese business with his wife. Then again, thta documentary wa son many years ago, things change.

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2022 8:40 AM

R6 Lots of hard drugs, groupies, etc.

The drummer sounds like he was worse. He had some major cocaine-ridden freakout at that Nardwaur interviewer comedian guy way back and that caused a ruckus. Later, he ran for some kind of UK political position and it had caused some issues bringing brought back up.

by Anonymousreply 7December 10, 2022 7:51 AM

I had such a love for Jarvis, going to see Pulp next year

by Anonymousreply 8December 10, 2022 9:44 AM

I thought Liam Gallagher was the coolest back in the day.

R8 Which show?

I have heard they might be adding new shows to the tour after the holidays and possibility of them doing a gig with Blur.

by Anonymousreply 10December 10, 2022 10:22 AM

[quote]Lots of hard drugs, groupies, etc.

Yes, I knew that, it was part of the documentary I saw on BBCAmerica. It's not much of a revelation that a good looking member of a famous rock band fucked a lot of groupies and did lots of drugs.

The shocking part was the millions he spent on cocaine alone.

by Anonymousreply 11December 10, 2022 11:13 AM

Damon is mean. He upset Taylor Swift, alleging she is not a songwriter. He also forced fat Adele off the stage one year at the Brit Awards, which was insulting. He has issues with women.

by Anonymousreply 12December 10, 2022 11:27 AM

Alex James became a preachy anti coke advocate. Mind you, he did this after he'd had his fill, settled down and became lord of his manor.

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2022 11:38 AM

That's rich, considering one of his ex-GFs looked like a man, the former Elastica singer Justine Frischmann.

R12 Damon is correct, and I'm glad someone told her.

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2022 12:55 PM

Damon was so pretty

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2022 1:04 PM

Justine was quite unattractive, Damon was prettier! Makes you wonder. Both of them were heroin addicts during their relationship, that might have something to do with him being with her.

I'm always astonished when people date outside their attractiveness level. What does his wife look like? Is she mannish too?

Could be has issues with women because he's closeted?

Just found a photo of Damon's partner, I don't think they are married but they do have a daughter.

Is she biracial? Part East Asian? Whatever she is, she's not attractive either.

Damon has terrible taste in women.

The one who sang It'll Lift Us Up Where We Belong

by Anonymousreply 19December 10, 2022 1:16 PM

The Massive Attack guys tried to join him on stage but were stopped by security. Only Jarvis made it up there.

Justine was also with Brett from Suede, she left him for Damon.

Groupie with a guitar. See also Courtney Love.

by Anonymousreply 21December 10, 2022 1:20 PM

I love the work Jarvis Cocker did with Nancy Sinatra.

The recording on the album is much better, but I still appreciate their live performance.

Those relationships would be totally pimped out now by their PR reps. Taylor Swift has made an entire career around who she's dated.

Beetlebum was at one time reported to be Damon's paean to Justine's hoo-hoo

Justine now lives in Colorado with some guy she married. Probably became a MAGAt! She claims to be an artist. Don't they all.

by Anonymousreply 24December 10, 2022 1:40 PM

Still shocked how plain Damon's partner is. Plus, she looks older than Damon.

His wife's name is Suzi Winstanley, she's supposedly a working artist. She works with a collaborator under the name Olly & Suzi.

I love Blur's music and, to a lesser degree, like Gorillaz as well.

I didn't quite love Pulp as much, though the singles were interesting. But I like a lot of what Jarvis has to say. He also had a radio show for years on 6 Music that I really liked.

One of my favorite records, Kissin Time by Marianne Faithfull, has songs/production and/or vocals by both of them (on different songs). It's quite fun.

Always had a crush on Damon in younger days, but I think Jarvis is actually quite handsome now as an older man. He definitely has BDE in a way Damon never has.

by Anonymousreply 26December 10, 2022 2:03 PM

I saw Jarvis at Webster Hall back in 2006 or so when he was promoting his first solo album. It was an incredible show, he had the audience in the palm of his hand. He’s a very charismatic performer. I’m a Damon fan too though I’ve never seen him live.

by Anonymousreply 27December 10, 2022 2:17 PM

Saw Gorillaz last month and Damon is still adorable but like so many of us is an old man now. He puts on a great show. I like Jarvis but he’s not attractive to me at all. I love his bit on the Sondheim tribute. He did a video for “I’m Still Here” directed by Todd Haynes.

by Anonymousreply 28December 10, 2022 2:30 PM

(10) the dubin show

by Anonymousreply 29December 10, 2022 2:36 PM

Adored Blur's take on Serge Gainsbourg and Last Year at Marienbad. Blur oozed 'art college', Oasis were 'building site and bookies', Pulp bridged that gap.

R22 A classic.

by Anonymousreply 31December 10, 2022 2:42 PM

I never hear any kind of tea on Jarvis. Only times were when he was with Chloe.

Anyone?

by Anonymousreply 32December 10, 2022 2:42 PM

Jarvis is adorable!

And Gorillaz latest album is really good. Consistent good music.

by Anonymousreply 33December 10, 2022 2:45 PM

There was chat years ago in the early days of the net - a blind about some big party where a "Britpop star" pulled out his very large penis and performed auto fellatio, to completion.

The conventional wisdom was that it was Jarvis.

by Anonymousreply 34December 10, 2022 2:45 PM

R34 Bet you that was Liam Gallagher or Brett from Suede!

Can't see really Jarvis doing that....but you never know! He seems too reserved in that aspect.

by Anonymousreply 35December 10, 2022 3:35 PM

R12 Absolutely hate Taylor Swift and she's an overrated hack who just has a record company round table songwriting team that writes all of her lame, boring, repetitive, drawn out drivel.

by Anonymousreply 36December 10, 2022 3:41 PM

R14, he’s told us he likes girls who want boys /Who like boys to be girls / Who do boys like they're girls / Who do girls like they're boys

by Anonymousreply 37December 10, 2022 4:03 PM

I have definitely wondered about Damon...

by Anonymousreply 38December 11, 2022 8:16 AM

This is why Jarvis is better and he honestly could be a full on comedian or actor if he wanted to. And fun to hear him talk about his film school days and seeing clips of his college film project.

Pulp comes in midway. Jarvie is so cute.

Damon is a very intelligent man but can sometimes come across as super pretentious. Might also be the area he is from and it just seems that way but isn't.

Damon has never written a song as succinct as Jarvis' Cunts Are Still Running The World

R43 Amen to that!

by Anonymousreply 44December 11, 2022 3:24 PM

I mean, I'd ride both of them until their foreskins wore off.

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2022 3:56 PM

R45 Are you male or female? Because if a certain one, that would be weird in odd places.

by Anonymousreply 46December 12, 2022 5:37 PM

Everyone in Blur had massive addiction issues. Graham got hit by a car at the height of his alcoholism.

Alex claimed in his memoir that he fucked Courtney Love. She denies it, though.

Jarvis is a brilliant man. Saw Pulp at the Warfield in 2012 and they were terrific.

by Anonymousreply 47December 12, 2022 6:16 PM

Has anyone here met Jarvis? Or any of the band? His new solo band is great. But really excited about this 2023 Pulp reunion. Can't wait to see them.

by Anonymousreply 48December 14, 2022 3:49 AM

[quote]Alex claimed in his memoir that he fucked Courtney Love. She denies it, though.

Who hasn't the junkie fug Courtney Love fucked? What did all the non-addict/non-boozer men see in her?

Her middle photo face and current face were created in a plastic surgeon's office. Would have most of these famous men have fucked her when she looked like the photo on the left. Courtney looked like Nancy Spungen, who wasn't exactly attractive.

They both are having reunion tours going on as we speak and both were so fucking great this weekend. I think Jarvis is incapable of aging.

by Anonymousreply 50May 29, 2023 4:19 PM

All of the previous nights show is on YouTube now.

But the Weekender was 100 times better and bigger.

I think both Blur and Pulp are at a new height right now, but Pulp wins this one.

seen Pulp tonight in Dublin, they were brilliant and Jarvis is sexy as ever!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 52June 10, 2023 12:16 AM

I put Gorillaz above Blur and Pulp, but they make pretty different music to be fair.

by Anonymousreply 53June 10, 2023 12:21 AM

The Clash’s Paul Simonon playing bass for Gorillaz was cool as hell.

by Anonymousreply 54June 10, 2023 12:23 AM

r52 - jealous! Wish they'd tour the U.S.

by Anonymousreply 55June 10, 2023 12:45 AM

To tell you the truth, Father, I'm rather fond of Neil Hannon myself

by Anonymousreply 57June 10, 2023 1:21 AM

R12 That's what I like about Damon. One of the few in music industry who dared to speak the truth on Taylor. If I'm not wrong, one of the Gallaghers also trashed her.

by Anonymousreply 58June 10, 2023 1:29 AM

I've seen both a few times and when I lived in San Diego there was a bar that did Brit Pop night which was fun. Different Class was one of those Desert Island albums for me in my youth. Plus, Jarvis Cocker was my celebrity doppelganger when I was younger and skinnier.

As I've gotten older though, I've gravitated towards Gorillaz more than either Pulp or Blur.
