I rarely watch awards shows these days, but I always root for the hosts. It seems like such a difficult thing to do in this postmodern era, where we have less of a shared culture than 40-65 years ago when there were 3 major tv networks, fewer studio films, and no Internet/streaming services.

I loved his coming out special, and he produces Ramy which is one of my favourite shows. His comedy is usually very well executed and precise. But I have to admit he has been a little obnoxious since he got all the extra attention (and it was a bit presumptuous for his agents to book him on SNL just because he came out). Plus suddenly dressing like Mary J Blige in her 'Share My World' era wherever he goes is... a bit much.

I think he's a solid choice for this, although it's true that he still hasn't really crossed over to mainstream audiences (I am sure he'll joke - once again - that nobody at home knows who he is). Besides, does anybody still watch these shows live? I just click through the speeches on YouTube after they air.

Nevertheless I try to do my best, and to keep my bitter spirits up with a little shot of this or that throughout the day, and I get a lot of good out of my spoon collection, and I quilt (poorly, admittedly), and can even do a bit of small-furniture upholstery (sp?) if drunk enough.
