Remember when Trump claimed in 2017 that TIME called to tell him they wanted his permission to name him 'man of the year' the year before (2016) and he denied the honor and asked them to pick someone else ?

Within hours, TIME Magazine made a public statement that this was absolutely untrue - they would never call the person beforehand and 'ask' for their permission AND he was never, ever even remotely mentioned as 'man of the year'.

So was Hitler.

Why is he “Person of the Year” when he is very clearly a man?

They officially changed the title to 'person' decades ago, when they finally started picking women. Before that, it was always a man - so 'man of the year' reflected the times.

Iranian women were named “Heroes of the Year”.

Trump was Time's Person of the Year in 2016. It's not the accolade some seem to think it is. They've had Hitler, Stalin (twice!), Bezos, Dubya, Putin, Zuckerberg, Elon Musk. Looking through the list it's a lot of politicians and more recently oligarchs. It's more like a 'notable' person.
