Miracle on 34th Street (1994 film)

What a piece of shit. It has all the elements to be a classic but just can’t get there. The direction is horrible, the look is almost right, but the casting is off. Why wouldn’t Macy’s participate?

I saw the musical just last week (community theater). What shit THAT was. I didn't know it was ever turned into a musical.

In certain photos, Edmund Gwenn (Santa in the ONLY version worth watching) reminds me of Christopher Plummer.

Am I the only one who gets that Gwenn's and Payne's characters are lovers ? the scene where they share the bedroom (and the pyjama IIRC), always gets me hard and sweaty

I loved this movie as a kid. It had that Matilda chick plus the old man who played Santa Claus.

by Anonymousreply 13December 7, 2022 3:32 PM

The direction is very stagnant.

I enjoyed the original 1947 version. Edmund Gwenn appeared as Santa in the real 1946 Macy's parade.

by Anonymousreply 16December 7, 2022 5:15 PM

Why remake a perennial favorite like that ? everybody adores the original. Stioupid. Wait until they re-do Casablanca with ScarJo, Clowney and Cuba Gooding JR.

R17 try again… it’ll be Zendaya, Timotay and Laverne Cox

by Anonymousreply 18December 7, 2022 5:22 PM

^ Laverne in the Bogart's part

by Anonymousreply 19December 7, 2022 5:23 PM

Do we all agree that Johnny Payne had the best body of all old Hollywood ?

I vaguely remember watching this version as a child. I have not seen the original for a while. It used to be on all over the place when I was growing up but am guessing that stopped due to some copyright enforcement.
