"Early Morning Rain" by Gordon Lightfoot is a favorite of mine. It's become a standard.
"Angel of the Morning" by Merrilee Rush. It's a lovely song and she sings it perfectly. The overdone version by Juice Newton was nowhere near as good.

"Touch Me in the Morning" - Diana Ross. I first heard it on the radio as I was driving away from a trick's apartment. (Yes, in 1973, we called them tricks.)

Morning opens quietly
A shadow vision over me
I know you well
Hidden by the windowpane
And all my sadness gone charade
Begins to fade, how long it stayed
Patterns of another day
Awaken slowly out of grey
A tolling bell
Rolling down the alleyway
It's calling all my dreams away
My dreams are songs I play

Don't Marry Her
Those lovely Sunday [bold]mornings,[/bold]
with breakfast brougt in bed.
those blackbirds look like knitting needles,
trying to peck your head.
those birds will peck your soul out,
and throw away the key.
Don't marry her, fuck me

And it's that man you fought with this morning
The same one you are gonna make love to tonight

Has anyone mentioned "Good Morning, Starshine?" from the musical "Hair?" It became a hit song sung by Oliver and it went:
Good mornin', starshine
The Earth says, "Hello"
You twinkle above us
We twinkle below
Good mornin', starshine
You lead us along
My love and me as we singing
Our early mornin' singin' song
Gliddy glub gloopy, nibby nabby noopy la, la, la, lo, lo
Sabba sibby sabba, nooby abba nabba, le, le, lo, lo
Tooby ooby walla, nooby abba naba
Early mornin' singin' song

Morningtown Ride, The Seekers. Real Australian feel.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | December 8, 2022 10:58 AM |
R90 The Seekers certainly gave it an Australian feel but turns out it was written by Malvina Reynolds, she of Little Boxes all made out of ticky-tacky. Nothing to do with Mornington.
