Chris Pine’s Dungeons and Dragons will be a career killer

I am sure it will be a perfectly fine moving picture show.

He was never any great shakes as an actor…next stop, LIFETIME.

Yeah, they got a lot of big-ish name stars, but it looks terrible.

Given how poorly the last D&D movie did, without a much clearer marketing that differentiates it from your run of the mill sword and sorcery movie, few people are going to go running to see it.

The trailers look awful.

This is a movie with no audience. No one who doesn't play D&D gives a shit, and anyone who [italic]does[/italic] play D&D is going to be super-critical of the slightest wrinkle. These people are the hardcore nerds. They eat Marvel fanbois for breakfast.

There are people who are going to ask "what rule set are they using? That is no longer true in the 5th edition etc."

I can't imagine this is going to be of interest to D&D players, either, but I'm kind of out of the loop on RPGs these days. Last I knew, though, they shrugged off the films in the same way they shrug off D&D board games, as not being anything really worth acknowledging.

In whatever medieval parallel universe this takes place, there fortunately seems to be a lot of hair gel.

The comic book movies were hit and miss, even stuff like Superman and Batman that did well the first couple movies.

The didn't consistently become juggernauts until Iron Man.

I can see the uninitiated execs at studios thinking that any medieval knights and sorcery movie has an audience after LotR and GoT.

Ooh I hope him and the Black guy with the big sword make out.

Of course they only made this to piggyback on the popularity of LOTR and GOT. It looks dreadful.

Shocked they left out stars like the rock, who claim they are really into D&D because it might be a help to have actual players be in the movie.

Dungeons and Dragqueens (the Stephen Sondheim Story) might be more fun

Might be hard to believe, but the poster and trailers fit right in with some of the more comedic superhero/fantasy movies, like Thor Ragnorak. Those are big hits, even if older audiences/non-fanboys don't really care for them. Yes, D&D is a game, but fits in the genre.

A few jokes combined with showing off some nice atmosphere and creature effects is basic for this genre of fantasy/action.

Whoever is marketing this knows exactly what they need to do to attract comic book fans. These movies can't rely on hardcore nerds alone for profits: there aren't enough of them on Earth.

R16, maybe Hugh realizes playing the fantasy villain is fun, easy, and pretty lucrative? As well as paying off old debts.

This movie looks excruciating. Just sitting through the trailer was a chore. And Chris Pine has a Southern California accent in everything he does.
