by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 30, 2022 2:54 PM |
It'll get pulled, I'm sure of it. You can't get news on Twitter anymore; not only does actual news never trend, but doing a search on a current news story doesn't get you any hits from actual journalists. I was searching for info on the tornadoes that touched down in the Southern US this morning and got porn, people talking about their dreams, old tweets, and finally on the 12th hit some guy named Shamburger with the NWS.
They're promoting hate speech and suppressing actual news, and promoting a lot of crypto stuff as well, the app is going to get yanked ASAP.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 30, 2022 3:03 PM |
It's not as simple as that. Musk has the money to start his own phone company and screw all of us over even more.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 30, 2022 3:10 PM |
I'm not watching some bearded nobody talk for 10 minutes, r5. Do you have a link to anything legitimate that would explain how Musk's own phone company would "screw all of us over"?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 30, 2022 3:11 PM |
So Elon is going to spend billions to develop his own line of phones and app store, AND then convince companies and organizations all over the world to create a version of their app for his phone platform?
This is insane, when is the board at Tesla going to say enough? He’s squandering Tesla’s money and reputation, because the backlash against the cars is coming.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 30, 2022 3:16 PM |
Microsoft tried competing with Android and Apple phones, and had a full ecosystem and developers and huge name recognition. They still failed, despite spending billions. The idea that Musk could do so, and do it in time to save Twitter is ridiculous. If Apple pulls the app (and Google may follow suit), he's immediately out of time. No one will take the risk to advertise with him.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 30, 2022 3:24 PM |
Apple fucked over FORTNITE which generated billions more $$$ than Twitter ever dreamed of. Apple would destroy Twitter (and Musk) without blinking.

The key word here is "claims." There is no evidence that Apple has told Twitter this.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 30, 2022 6:33 PM |
Both Apple and Google expressed concerns about Twitter content moderation well before Musk bought it. Since Musk's acquisition the team responsible for deleting child porn is now one person. If Apple or Google find increasing amounts of CP going unmoderated, you bet they will pull the app from their stores. That was why Apple yanked the Tumblr app, leading Tumblr to ban all adult content. They were allowing CP to go unmoderated, and Apple said enough.
This is just another example of why this was a stupid buy on Musk's part. An enormous part of managing a social media network is weeding out the sick shit that people put up. Gutting the staff that actually does that work was idiotic.

Apple has been trying to build a car since at least 2008. They’ve tried unsuccessfully to partner with real car companies including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota. And yet the Apple Car has gone nowhere.
Bottom line: Apple doesn’t know anything about building cars or it would have happened by now. If they try to buy Tesla, they’ll ruin the company. Just like Elon Musk knows nothing about the social media industry and has ruined Twitter.

Tesla is probably closer to the end of its useful life than people realize. Teslas catch on fire spontaneously. Now, large, traditional car companies are doing electric cars and they will probably all have better, cheaper cars than Teslas within a year or two that don’t catch on fire.
When Tesla started, they were really the only game in town. Now they aren’t. People aren’t going to buy fiery inferno cars when they can buy an electric Toyota, a brand known for reliability.
A few millionaires going through mid-life crises might want a Tesla, everybody else is going to want a family car that doesn’t lock the baby inside and drive it into a tree, and then burst into flames.
Now that he’s remade his image into an unlikable Lex Luthor instead of a cutting edge, eccentric Tony Stark, watch ordinary, not rich people buy a staid, reliable family electric car by one of the tried and true auto manufacturers and pass temperamental Teslas by.
If he was smart, he’d sell it to a larger company for a ton of money and let them either clean it up or discard it. In a year, it will be like buying a Pinto. He’s ruined his reputation and made Teslas uncool.

R41, I’ve read he lost 50 of his biggest advertisers, and that was last week. Who knows by now.
I also read that some former advertisers had old advertisements from months ago suddenly pop up on the site without their permission. Maybe he thinks he can force them to pay for stuff they didn’t agree to?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 1, 2022 1:22 AM |

R48, I agree. Some car manufacturer is probably waiting for the stock to hit rock bottom and then they’ll buy it and retire the name, or maybe bring it back years from now on a completely different sports car, at best. “The new, improved Tesla II.”
It would be smart to do this and then produce a sporty, dad in mid-life crisis electric car with no competition from Tesla. I hope that’s what happens. .
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 1, 2022 2:04 AM |
So Musk was full of shit as usual.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 1, 2022 2:26 AM |
I wonder what the real story is. If Musk just sacked all the people that delete CP, and CP continues on the site and gets even worse, what else can Apple and its advertisers do but drop it?
Just because he says it’s not going to happen doesn’t mean it’s not true. He doesn’t speak for Apple. They were probably trying to keep it quiet and give him one last chance, and he just blabbed it.
At best, Apple may have given him a final warning, he stupidly put it out there for all to hear, then some lawyer or somebody said, “for God’s sake Elon, if you even say this out loud, it’s going to crash Tesla. You have to take it back.” He was a fool to tie the fates of Tesla and Twitter together.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 1, 2022 2:44 AM |
Why would it crash Tesla? They are separate companies. In fact, Tesla probably wishes that Elon would just give up on Twitter and go back to focusing on them.

This is probably what really happened: Apple sends apps like Twitter boilerplate emails warning them to clean up their content moderation practices or risk being booted from the App Store.

R76 There’s child porn on Twitter? Really? Wouldn’t this be in the news constantly if it were true?
And transphobia? Who cares?
by Anonymous | reply 90 | December 2, 2022 7:19 AM |
R90, Twitter had a department of employees who looked for child porn specifically and removed it. They were specially trained, knew all the languages and countries’ laws about CP and would act according to the laws in that country. Elon fired the vast majority of them. In the Asian Pacific region, for example, it’s said he fired the entire staff but one person. You don’t have to be a genius to know there’s a lot of people in that region who may try to post CP.
Recently, people on Twitter have stated they’re getting unsolicited generalized porn on their feed when they have never looked at it and it’s not in their algorithm. A lot of the systems on Twitter are now not being managed by a human being, and the systems are breaking down. There have been numerous complaints that tags don’t work in the search bar for some people. These things would be easily repaired if there was a human available to fix them, but Elon fired them all.
A lot of people have also complained that their algorithm seems to have disappeared, and they’re getting trending items that are irrelevant to them, for example random sports scores from across the country when they have no interest in sports, etc. It’s a sign the system is not being maintained.

They refuse to allow me to make my argument as to why my tweet wasn’t violent or hate filled (I assure you it wasn’t, it was mild compared to what you see on the daily) now Elon Musk is playing “Twitter police” as if he knows what’s best when he allows the most hate filled scumbags back on. When an oligarch (whoever it may be) buys a social media platform & turns it into to some marketplace for hate speech, antisemitism, porn and actively invites traitors to spew their craziness, it's good to know there are at least some adults at the wheel who will shut it down. Granted, Apple has their own issues & I'm not so sure that destroying twitter wasn't Musk's goal all along, but whatever the case, in a world where we can't seem to get rid of Trump, Alex Jones & Kanye, it's good to know there are at least some controls still in place.

3. Push him out the window

I wonder what Elon had to give up for that? We know Apple is also working on an electric car. No way Apple didn’t walk away with something big.

Do it. Stop saber rattling and just fucking pull the goddamned app already.

I hope you posted that from your android phone R107.
Oopsie, Twitter uses google ads.
Looks like it's this for you...

R104. Elon says a lot of things. He was saying that Apple was considering pulling the app, now they apparently were never considering it at all.
Though I'm sure they're now thinking about it NOW.
He says they're the biggest advertiser. Is that because there are so few advertisers left and they got a real cheap rate?
Because that's my bet.

Why is Musk such a jerk?
by Anonymous | reply 113 | December 6, 2022 6:20 PM |
Because nobody stands up to him, R113. Including Tim Cook.

Apple’s “car” is a big failure. Now to be delayed at least 2 additional years.

Probably except for the part that says he can’t be President, R11.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | December 11, 2022 2:58 PM |
Apologies R11, I meant R111.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | December 11, 2022 2:59 PM |
@r116, Yeah, well, I'm sure the Ford and Honda phones would be big failures as well. Maybe car companies should stick to making cars, phone companies should stick to making phones and Elon Musk should stick it up his ass

I love it when one China-owned company starts fighting with another China-owned company in the U.S.
