She’s being sold as a fresh new pop singer for 1980s. Initially described as a new wave cross between Marie Osmond and Olivia Newton-John in the rag mags. Lulu and Marion were on edge.

Also, Casablanca sent a promo copy of Dusty's "White Heat" LP to the student-run newspaper I worked for in high school. None of us knew Dusty Springfield. I took it home and fell in love.

I *adore* Dusty, but she's probably the last person who should've dispensed life advice to anyone. An acquaintance here, in Toronto, lived on the same street as Dusty and her partner Carole Pope in the early 00's and used to tell me stories of how dysfunctional that relationship was. There were times when the police had to come over for domestic disturbance since they were going at each other with frying pans.

Sometimes, I think most of the times, those that have been through it are the best ones to give advice.

I got to meet Sheena at a Meet and Greet a few years ago, after a gig at a jazz club in Napa.

She was sweet and charming to me and my husband, and we got a photo of us together. At 5'10", we were towering over her. She is a tiny little thing.

Which aspects?

I loved Dusty's music but I think by the mid 70s what was originally a bit of neurosis and a lack of self confidence turned into mental illness. That, or she always had bipolar tendencies.

She seemed to be attracted to strong women and probably thrived a bit on (for lack of a better term) dyke drama, so I believe the dysfunction as mentioned above.

PS a lot of the dysfunctions are laid out in Dancing With Demons, a book co-written by Vicki Wyndham (the music manager, not the American soap actress).

Stay healthy, don't drink excessively or take recorded, cum showers with hip hop cons.

Dusty had severe mentall illness and drug and alcohol issues. She was a hot mess for years before she finally got help and got sober.

She had a terrible run of it in the 70s and late 80s - the rapid changes in the music scene made her seem like a relic overnight.

She did still have fabulous material here and there, though. WHITE HEAT should have been her comeback. I loved this song too....
