Men are using condoms less, even as syphilis and other STDs surge

The basket of free ultrathin and studded condoms stayed full to the brim — a recurrent reality that no longer surprised the D.C. health workers offering HIV testing this month at a downtown plaza.

Public health authorities are confronting a rise in sexually transmitted infections in a world where condom use has steadily declined — and, with it, one of the most effective ways of curbing the spread of disease.

“They’ll laugh at it, or sometimes they get it and throw it away,” said Kevins Anglade, a community outreach worker for Whitman-Walker Health, a D.C.-based LGBT health-care organization that opened in the 1970s as the Gay Men’s Venereal Disease Clinic. “It’s a new normal, which is very sad.”

The United States recorded nearly 2.5 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in 2021, more than doubling in the past two decades, according to preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

About half of new infections last year were in young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Men who have sex with men contract infections at higher rates than heterosexuals because they are more likely to have multiple recent partners and it’s easier for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to circulate in smaller networks of people.

Condoms, once central to campaigns to eradicate STDs at the height of the AIDS crisis, have become a harder sell because of medical advancements such as long-acting contraception and medications that drastically reduce HIV transmission.

Just wait until they get the “drip” for life. Sp many gay men fuck raw and take antibiotics like it’s candy, now gonorrhea and the clap are out of control and close to fully resistant to antibiotics. PrEP has great benefits on a micro level, but has huge downsides on a macro scale.

Awaiting the resident prep troll to belittle those that still wear condoms and insist that prep usage has zero correlation to this, in 3…2….

by Anonymousreply 4November 23, 2022 6:19 PM

Maybe they weren't giving out free Magnums?

by Anonymousreply 5November 23, 2022 6:21 PM

Testing testing testing. Any sexually active human with more than 1 partner should be tested every few months. Gays have learned that. Straight people haven't yet but are now fucking like gay people do.

New show on FX with Jesse Eisenberg is about this. A nerdy NY doctor who got married young is now divorced. And he's now able to fuck a hot new woman every single night due to apps. It's a new world but we are stuck in old testing paradigms

by Anonymousreply 6November 23, 2022 6:26 PM

R6, you're right. Cheap Home testing should be an easy thing for all these STIs. Unfortunately no one wants to have to go to a doc every few weeks.

by Anonymousreply 7November 23, 2022 6:42 PM

As a child of the 80s, this is just unfathomable to me. Playing with fire. Such a sad shame.

by Anonymousreply 8November 23, 2022 6:47 PM

R2 Women "allow" them? That's good to know.

by Anonymousreply 9November 23, 2022 6:49 PM

And the answer to this is another lecture from the Larry Kramer crowd.

That'll fix this!

by Anonymousreply 10November 23, 2022 6:52 PM

PrEP and the apps. We had such great gifts given to us in the last twenty years and totally fucked them up.

by Anonymousreply 11November 23, 2022 6:52 PM

R10, after AIDS and COVID, with your attitude, you don't deserve PrEP. Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 12November 23, 2022 6:53 PM

This is why I don’t have sex with a guy until we are dating about a month. I can’t trust them.

by Anonymousreply 13November 23, 2022 6:56 PM

Who cares, life is a banquet, especially when you are self-hating.

by Anonymousreply 14November 23, 2022 7:00 PM

TIL Susan Atkins wasn’t wearing shoes at the Tate residence because she had sores on her feet from gonorrhea.

by Anonymousreply 15November 23, 2022 7:02 PM

Raw is law.

Why should a top fuck you when we can easily find a bottom willing to let us bareback him?

by Anonymousreply 16November 23, 2022 7:04 PM

Straight men should be using condoms especially now that abortions may be harder to get.

by Anonymousreply 17November 23, 2022 7:12 PM

One of the big reasons I don't fuck men though I'm technically bi. Febfem Life for ya gyal until these creeps figure it out and take some responsibility. I don't want VD or an oops baby.

by Anonymousreply 18November 23, 2022 7:21 PM

PrEP should be illegal. You want to be a voluntary disease vector, go fucking die. I'm so sick of stupid people. This will be good for human evolution.

Someone doesn't understand PrEP and disease vectors.

by Anonymousreply 23November 23, 2022 8:00 PM

R23, you have no idea what you are talking about. If the availability of PrEP is causing a huge decrease in condom usage and the skyrocketing of sexually transmitted diseases, then it is a huge problem. If PrEP didn't exist, these whoring voluntary disease vectors who are choosing to be breeding grounds for new mutations of various STDs would have to face the consequences of their own actions instead of placing those consequences on everyone else by creating antibiotic resistant strains that the entire world will have to deal with.

by Anonymousreply 24November 23, 2022 8:05 PM

R24 true to an extent, because it’s not only changing antibiotic resistance for STDs but other bacteria too.

by Anonymousreply 25November 23, 2022 8:07 PM
Raw is law. Why should a top fuck you when we can easily find a bottom willing to let us bareback him?

This is an accurate reflection of how things stand sadly. If a bottom wants to get fucked and the top says he'll only fuck without a condom, very few have the willpower to say no.

And the whole act of breeding/seeding/impregnating/cream pie what ever it's called is now a feature of sex for a lot of men.

by Anonymousreply 28November 23, 2022 8:50 PM

R26, you may as well have just written "I have nothing to say in response to the truth." because that's exactly what you did in other words. Like I said, you don't know what you are talking about.

by Anonymousreply 29November 23, 2022 9:25 PM

Haven't used condoms in years. Didn't even realize they were a thing any longer, except for teen boys not wanting to get their girlfriends pregnant. Why would any sexually active gay man not be on PrEP. It's just foolish.

by Anonymousreply 30November 23, 2022 9:29 PM

R30 is too fucking stupid to realize that there are other STDs which is ironic considering he probably has all of them.

by Anonymousreply 31November 23, 2022 9:36 PM

Go on, R29.

by Anonymousreply 32November 24, 2022 1:08 AM

R32, unsurprisingly, still has nothing to say on the topic. Telling in and of itself.

by Anonymousreply 33November 24, 2022 2:32 AM

I had to go of PrEP because no tops wear condoms any more (with the exception of guys over 55, whom I love but don’t exclusively have sex with)

by Anonymousreply 34November 24, 2022 2:27 PM

R34 how many other STIs have you had now?

by Anonymousreply 35November 24, 2022 2:28 PM

I'm on PrEP, have an active sex life, and have had no STIs because I get regular check ups. Some of you are too set in your old ways.

by Anonymousreply 36November 24, 2022 2:35 PM
Men who have sex with men contract infections at higher rates than heterosexuals because they are more likely to have multiple recent partners and it’s easier for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) to circulate in smaller networks of people.

It's because they're whores, darlin'.

That paragraph should do wonders to convince straight women to sign up for a bi guy!

by Anonymousreply 37November 24, 2022 2:47 PM

But what if something else comes along? Nobody predicted AIDS. It would be foolish to think that was it.

by Anonymousreply 38November 24, 2022 2:58 PM

There are people using doxycycline as pEP, “doxypep,” for STIs.

by Anonymousreply 39November 24, 2022 3:04 PM

There's probably more anal sex going on now than there's ever been in the history of mankind - gay and straight - so new diseases will arise because there's no better incubator than the poopbox, with its efficient delivery system straight Into the bloodstream. But we all no this, right? Right??

Men are hoes!!!!

by Anonymousreply 44November 24, 2022 3:41 PM

About once a year, husband and I get a wild hair and decide to have a threesome. The rules are we only top and only with condoms. Almost every guy we have connected with has tried to talk us out of it, citing their PREP as enough protection for us all. It’s as if all other STDS don’t exist to them.

by Anonymousreply 45November 24, 2022 3:42 PM

Dude, I worked in an AIDS hospice in the 1990s. Fuck the hell off. Shit happens.

by Anonymousreply 46November 24, 2022 3:43 PM

I knew a young man who died from anal cancer. Fought it like a lion. Didn't want to go, too young, loved life, loving partner, supportive family, career -- all of it.

by Anonymousreply 47November 24, 2022 3:48 PM

It was stupid from the begining to expect the entire human population to use for eternity rubber coats for something so natural and primal like sex. It worked when HIV was something truly scary, but with Prep (thank the Gods it was invented!) and the control/reduction of HIV/AIDS it's predictable people are reacting this way. The mass balances actions and risks. The fact that billions of people are more willing to risk STDs than waring condoms speaks volumes.

by Anonymousreply 48November 24, 2022 4:13 PM

Is it fine to take antibiotics bimonthly?

by Anonymousreply 49November 24, 2022 4:15 PM

No, you shouldn’t take antibiotics unless your doctor has prescribed them to fight a bacterial infection. This is why antibiotic-resistance is becoming a thing.

by Anonymousreply 53November 24, 2022 8:49 PM

unfortunately this is a direct result of how influential porn and twitter/OnlyFans amateur porn are. Most of them do not wear condoms because they get less views. People want to see mouths and asses being cummed in. So now a lot of gays especially those under 40 think their own sex lives have to mirror what is seen in studio and social media porn (among other gross fetishes and habits).

by Anonymousreply 54November 24, 2022 8:54 PM
I'm on PrEP, have an active sex life, and have had no STIs because I get regular check ups.

Idiot who thinks check ups prevent STDs. Might want to think about that again, moron.

R43, you can't do anything to prevent an airplane falling on your house or the Earth exploding. Can easily put on a condom to prevent STD transmission. You, too, are an illogical fucking idiot. Maybe you can hook up with the other fucking idiot I quoted and both go to the doctor to be informed that you have antibiotic resistant syphillis and you can both look at each other, stunned, and simultaneously say, "But, how could that happen?"

by Anonymousreply 55November 24, 2022 9:45 PM

The only thing worse the antibiotic resistant syphilis is being a boring prig, R55.

by Anonymousreply 56November 25, 2022 1:02 AM

HIV rates never came down until prep, thousands aren't dying from STDs, let me know when it starts happening, perhaps shut the fuck up about a stupid infection that can be cured.

by Anonymousreply 57November 25, 2022 2:50 AM

R54 For the back of the audience, PORN IS NOT REAL LIFE!

by Anonymousreply 58November 25, 2022 6:49 AM

LOL So women are the zookeepers, huh? LOL

Maybe we women should cull the man-beasts.

Can't you say it of God that he's allowing men to act this way? Y'all think women are gods?

Okay. I can buy it. I am a woman, after all.

by Anonymousreply 59November 25, 2022 7:09 AM

What is a woman?

by Anonymousreply 60November 25, 2022 7:13 AM

R48, you have a point. After all, men were fucking prostitutes right and left before penicillin was discovered, risking horrible disease and death from syphilis. If syphilis wasn’t enough to scare them, then gonorrhea sure won’t be.

Speaking of which, R55 and R56, the article is about gonorrhea, not syphilis. Syphilis remains entirely sensitive to penicillin. If [italic]Treponema pallidum[/italic] ever develops resistance to penicillin (it is already resistant to some other antibiotics), it will be a catastrophe.

by Anonymousreply 61November 25, 2022 7:30 AM

When porn is the only instruction method out there for young folk, we get a visually-focussed generation that sees camera-friendly positions and risky jizz play as markers of successful sex.

They also need to learn that you need that condom to keep mud off your dick. It happens. You’re always glad it’s wrapped.

by Anonymousreply 62November 25, 2022 7:30 AM
That paragraph should do wonders to convince straight women to sign up for a bi guy!

r37 Any straight woman who sleeps with a guy raw is an idiot, but any straight woman who sleeps with a (known) bi guy raw just hates herself for that statistic alone. STIs and STDs can cause significantly more damage to the female reproductive system; pelvic inflammatory disease, for example, can lead to infertility, and HPV can lead to cervical cancer.

That's one of the main reasons most straight women don't want bi men. They'd be playing Russian Roulette with their health.

by Anonymousreply 63November 25, 2022 7:54 AM

I guess I'm just an old-fashioned prisspot, but the amount of random sex that a lot of other gay men I know (in my same age group) engage in is kind of shocking to me. And I don't say that to be judgmental, because I think people should do as they please. But taking 20 random loads one night at a bathhouse? I just don't have it in me. I'm fairly cautious when it comes to my health in general, and want to avoid contracting pretty much anything if I can. Less partners means less variables, and I kind of prefer it that way anyway. I had a lot of serious health problems when I was a child/young adult, ranging from cancer to congenital heart problems (I had to have open-heart surgery in my twenties), which probably plays into this.

by Anonymousreply 64November 25, 2022 7:55 AM
The fact that billions of people are more willing to risk STDs than waring condoms speaks volumes.

Yes. That most people are feral imbeciles with little to no impulse control.

by Anonymousreply 65November 25, 2022 8:04 AM

Sooner or later something will come along that will force us all to start using condoms again or face catastrophic health consequences. Whether that’s pan-resistant bacteria or a novel pathogen, it’s a biological certainty.

by Anonymousreply 66November 25, 2022 8:25 AM

R63 don't be a bigot. Maybe some of these women want to become infertile because of roe v Wade? I can only recommend having sex with a bi man. After that, you don't have to use the birth control pill anymore!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67November 25, 2022 9:06 AM

And to expound on r64, can anyone explain why 20 random loads is more desirable than a monogamous relationship?

What is the attraction/thrill? Being “bad”?

by Anonymousreply 68November 25, 2022 9:27 AM

SORRY not sorry but if y'all circumcise yo boys, their glans becomes dry and loses sensitivity and then a condom reduces sensitivity even more!!! Who wants that??! I knew a circumcised guy from Europe and he said he needed 50 minutes to cum. His tinder vagina got annoyed and told him to jerk it on her tiddies. No wonder men in the US as a whole don't wanna wear condoms. They are also told that circumcision reduces the chance of getting stds (as if, as we can see with this thread 😆) . Thank the Kellogs guy for creating resistant Syphillis in a decade or so. #SyphilisShaft #AnalHerpes #HPVmouth

Am I the only one that doesn’t trust taking a drug for years, that isn’t that old?

What are the long term side effects of prep?

by Anonymousreply 70November 25, 2022 9:31 AM

Sex = fun, now

STDs = not fun, boner killer, aftermath

I think a lot of us still suffer from some sort of self loathing where we need "to feel something" after spending so much time in the closet or struggling otherwise. Even some out and proud gays still feel like they have something to prove by throwing themselves into a hedonistic lifestyle where sex needs to be raw and without filter.

This isn't about sex negativity, it's about throwing caution to the wind and rather go for quantity and instant gratification instead of quality and taking your time to make an informed decision (like, knowing your sex partner beyond what his online hook-up profile claims).

by Anonymousreply 71November 25, 2022 9:41 AM

I wish I had all stds at the same time to strenghten my immune system. I'm sure it can handle it.

by Anonymousreply 72November 25, 2022 9:51 AM

R68 I tend to believe it's just a symptom of being a sex addict—it's a hedonistic vortex of "more, more, more"—filling a hole, both literally and metaphorically. I have never met anyone who engages in random sexual encounters at that magnitude who is a happy or well-adjusted person. I'm sure some of them exist out there, but I think for the most part, it's just a manifestation of addiction.

by Anonymousreply 73November 25, 2022 10:21 AM

Why are so many of us sex junkies?

Will it eventually stop when young men can date each other as teens without social stigma? I know this is just starting, but we’re not there yet.

I always think it has to do with keeping everything secret and bottled up.

Or are men just gluttons, when given the chance, regardless?

by Anonymousreply 74November 25, 2022 10:51 AM

Some people see sex as validation (someone considers me worthy enough to have sex with him / her! Yay!). Maybe some sexual predator (pedophile?) raised them that way or they grew up in an emotionally distant household where affection and approval was not given unconditionally.

by Anonymousreply 75November 25, 2022 10:58 AM
Or are men just gluttons, when given the chance, regardless?

That one. It's that one.

r75 Promiscuous people usually have one common denominator regardless of gender: low self-esteem. The other common denominator is daddy issues. Fathers do interesting numbers on both their sons and their daughters. I imagine it's even more pronounced when the son is gay because he's seeking sex with other men, and men are, by nature, not as selective and discriminate as women with sex.

The straight daughter with daddy issues and low self-esteem can very easily have a body count similar to, or slightly higher than, the gay man with the same issues for this exact reason. Her consequences will likely just be more shamed, though, especially when that consequence is ending up on an episode of Paternity Court testing potential baby daddy number 17.

by Anonymousreply 76November 25, 2022 11:04 AM

yep r66 it was just a few months ago that monkeypox brought everything to a pause and we were lucky enough that a vaccine was readily available. That shit could've gone another way.

by Anonymousreply 77November 25, 2022 12:34 PM

R74, do you think straight men would fuck around as much as gay men do, if they could? I think so. Stigma is obviously not an issue for them. Male sexuality is designed by evolution to spread a man's seed around to be sure his genes are passed on. It's built in. There's no changing it, only controlling it. Women perform that function in the straight world, but there's nothing holding gay men back, now that social repression has been lifted.

by Anonymousreply 78November 25, 2022 12:47 PM

There was a thread a few days ago where a poster learned they’d had syphilis for years without knowing. He’s dealing with dementia because of an STI and has been celibate for years. Life can be so cruel in how things pan out.

Wear condoms. There’s nothing “primal” about a disease that can affect the quality of your life just because you want to bareback.

Be a slut but make good choices.

by Anonymousreply 79November 25, 2022 1:01 PM

You only have one life to live, might as well have all the bareback fun you want.

by Anonymousreply 80November 25, 2022 2:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 81November 25, 2022 2:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 82November 25, 2022 3:31 PM

So I'm guessing you're not participating in No Nut November, then?

by Anonymousreply 83November 25, 2022 3:35 PM

After almost 35 years of condoms I finally went on prep and no longer use them. It is wonderful not worrying about HIV.

by Anonymousreply 84November 25, 2022 3:43 PM

Way to leave out the end of the article:
Scientists and health officials are now focused on vaccine development, affordable at-home testing and medication taken after sex as the next generation of weapons in the battle against sexually transmitted infections. The most promising of the options is an oral antibiotic taken as soon as possible after sex to prevent bacterial STDs, a strategy known as post-exposure prophylaxis. Preliminary data from a study funded by the National Institutes of Health showed the method was effective against gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis. The CDC is developing clinical guidance to use the antibiotic for STD prevention in gay and bisexual men and transgender women who have HIV or take medication to prevent HIV — groups represented in the NIH study. While more at-home STD testing kits are entering the market, they are not affordable or distributed widely. Experts hope they can eventually be as accessible as rapid coronavirus tests.

by Anonymousreply 85November 25, 2022 3:53 PM

R85 this will ruin their healthy gut bacteria and that makes gays and transes basically antibiotic-chickens

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 86November 25, 2022 4:00 PM

by Anonymousreply 87November 25, 2022 4:40 PM
I knew a circumcised guy from Europe and he said he needed 50 minutes to cum. His tinder vagina got annoyed and told him to jerk it on her tiddies

Weird complaint for a woman to have, since many or even most women take a good half hour to warm up and become aroused sexually.

Perhaps if the man in question had given her foreplay before he started pumping and pounding away for close to an hour, she wouldn't have dried up and cooled off before he nutted.

by Anonymousreply 89November 25, 2022 4:59 PM

The straight daughter with daddy issues and low self-esteem can very easily have a body count similar to, or slightly higher than, the gay man with the same issues.

For women, the daddy issues can go the other way. My Dad's regard for me such as it is vacillates, and while he is a fairly constant physical presence in my life he is emotionally closed off, impossible to talk to without being ranted at or talked over, and passive-aggressive thanks to physical abuse and neglect from his own parents/stepparents/siblings. He's always been a distant bare-minimum protector/provider to me and my siblings more than a demonstrative and attentive parent. While I trust that he'll always be around (no ;run to the store for cigarettes' routine) and probably will not hurt me, I wouldn't ever go to him with any emotional distress or problem I was having, or even a mild question or favour. It's hard to ask him for help or to connect with him on any level beyond superficial polite chat. In my mind, he's the quiet handyman my Mom happened to be fucking all my life. I'm not sure he deeply truly wanted kids of his own, especially not daughters, and that he just agreed to keep my Mom happy and also to have live-in nursemaids for when he gets old (so he thinks).

As for how that connects to promiscuity: I'm an adult virgin and completely celibate, plus closeted bisexual. Though I have a small attraction to men and wouldn't mind theoretically trying sex with one I liked and fancied who was nice enough to me (and clean ofc), I just don't trust or spend time with men willingly and so there's no chance of that happening, and I think the way my Dad has treated and raised me is part of the reason why. Luckily, I prefer women romantically and socially and sexually, so it's not that big of a deal (well, if I weren't terrified of partnered sex in general it wouldn't be a big deal). My parents think it's abnormal and strange that I have no sex/love (at my same age, they had kids and had been married for years), and can't understand that nidifugous imprinting or lack thereof may be part of the reason why, though it's not all down to my folks of course.

Debating on buying a Nintendo Switch. Am I willing to waste money on slightly outdated tech the whippersnappers bought years ago? We’ll see.

by Anonymousreply 99November 25, 2022 6:06 PM

I wouldn't buy it because they will soon release a new console I guess. And this one will have backwards compatibility some said. You should buy condoms with the switch to prevent super-syphilis.

by Anonymousreply 100November 25, 2022 6:10 PM

R78 I'm not R74, but you are right—men are biologically inclined to blow as many loads as they can, so it's natural that gay men are going to want to fuck more because you have testosterone working on both sides. That being said, we are talking about primordial impulses, and I don't know that giving into those fully is necessarily a good thing, psychologically or physically speaking. Getting your ass pumped with 50 loads in a night from random dudes might be hot to some in the moment (though utterly fucking exhausting), but I truly believe it's reckless, soul-sucking behavior. R76 is right that promiscuity is usually a symptom of low self-esteem. For whatever various psychological reasons, there are a lot of guys who get off on the idea of being "used". As much as I love dick, I don't relate to that at all.
And NO, I have not used DoxyPep after every cumdump. I do not offer health advise so DYOR, but I've been experimenting on/off with Doxy to see how well I can get by using the least number of pills possible. Either I'm lucky, or I'm really on to something that we should all know.

Married now but single friends report that bottoms are all about wanting them to "breed" them and not in condom either

by Anonymousreply 103November 25, 2022 7:20 PM

Not only is the guy quoted in r102 seriously ugly but clearly has a barely double-digit IQ based on his replies to comments on his Tweet.

by Anonymousreply 104November 25, 2022 7:26 PM

Gay bottoms are unknowingly gain-of-function research test subjects for Pharma. Their rectums are incubators for a slurry of pathogens that during a 'black swan event' could undergo viral recombination and unleash the next global pandemic straight from their prolapsed 'wet market' into your nostrils, throat, eyes, and lungs. Heaven help us.

by Anonymousreply 105November 25, 2022 7:55 PM

Black swan event sounds so sexy and sophisticated.

by Anonymousreply 106November 25, 2022 8:09 PM

R106, yup, it's a sexy name. On the other hand, we're in the third year of one, and the world does not seem a sexier place - much less more sophisticated - for it.

by Anonymousreply 107November 25, 2022 9:01 PM

R103, the breeding/impregnation fetish is rampant in both the gay and straight world right now. I wonder if it's just a fad or if it's the result of something else going on in the world at large.

by Anonymousreply 108November 25, 2022 9:03 PM

Some of these posts are really anti-sex and bordering on homophobic. If you don't want to fuck without a condom 🙄 If you don't want to take loads or do gangbangs, then don't do them. Easy peasy. Stop the judging.

by Anonymousreply 109November 25, 2022 9:04 PM

R101, when I said that men are biologically inclined to fuck around, I didn’t mean it was an entirely good thing. For a stable society to evolve, that impulse has to be controlled, especially with hetero men. Gay men have more freedom, but centering your life around sex is not a good long-term strategy for happiness or good health.

by Anonymousreply 110November 25, 2022 9:04 PM

R109, antibiotic resistance arises when a single antibiotic is heavily used against a specific bacteria. When you have an epidemic of gonorrhea among gay men, and they all have to be treated with ceftriaxone, the chances of resistance arising are increased. Unprotected sex with many partners spreads gonorrhea, among other things.

That's epidemiology, not "homophobia" or anti-sex.

by Anonymousreply 111November 25, 2022 9:08 PM

I find it funny (and kind of disconcerting) that not being a sex addict who regularly walks around with the wads of 45 different men in their ass = being "homophobic" and "anti-sex". It's reductionist thinking if I've ever heard it.

by Anonymousreply 112November 25, 2022 9:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 113November 25, 2022 9:37 PM

And here comes R113 to complete the Bapist Ladies Luncheon clique. Just because you aren't getting dick, doesn't mean you have to judge those who are.

R105 That reads like the plot line from a story on Nifty.

Can your body fight syphilis on its own? Asking for a friend..

by Anonymousreply 126November 26, 2022 7:43 PM

R126. No. Untreated, it stays in your system for years until it literally rots your brain. Neurological outcomes. You'd be embarrassed, if you still had the compos mentis to be embarrassed. What's weird to me is why they're still so freaked out about. It is treatable and it is comparatively rare. I was notified I might have been exposed (tested negative) but when I went to my doctor he literally gasped: That's hardcore! That's reportable! MY confidence in him and comfort with him was never the same after that. (And this is a guy who is also a team doctor for a major sports team... I couldn't have been his first potential case.) Anyway, it's still got the powah.

by Anonymousreply 127November 26, 2022 8:42 PM

The problem isn't with gays or even straights fucking around you idiots, it's the ANTIBIOTICS in the food chain. When you load meat up it doesn't go away with cooking. What do you self hating gays not understand? Everyone has to eat but everyone doesn't have sex like children etc, yet they still have to eat. ITS THE ANTIBIOTICS IN THE FOOD NOT THE FUCKING.

by Anonymousreply 128November 26, 2022 8:56 PM

That doesn't change the reality you don't get syph from an actual T-bone, Mary.

by Anonymousreply 129November 26, 2022 11:13 PM

I caught syphilis from a toilet seat in Mexico City once.

by Anonymousreply 130November 27, 2022 1:43 AM

r130 You sit down bare-assed on public toilets?

by Anonymousreply 131November 27, 2022 1:44 AM

R128, no. The problem is that widespread and rising incidence of gonorrhea is leading to resistance to ceftriaxone, currently the drug of choice.

by Anonymousreply 132November 27, 2022 1:52 AM

R127, docs shouldn’t show shock to their patients, but that he was shocked is not surprising, especially if you are white. Syphilis is pretty rare, especially among whites*, and it is hardcore. And it’s reportable, which is a big deal because most doctors can go years without seeing a case of a reportable disease. Because everyone in medicine is familiar with the history of syphilis and TB, these two diseases tend to detonate with some force in an ordinary medical practice.

*The incidence rate of syphilis per 100,000 for white males is 11 (only Asian men have a lower rate). For Hispanic males, 35. For black males, 58.

by Anonymousreply 133November 27, 2022 1:57 AM

Thx, R133. I guess I slept with a real sex positive.

by Anonymousreply 134November 27, 2022 1:59 AM

R132 I really don't know how else to explain this to you, you seem argumentative and dense, Do a Google search before opening your mouth. Ceftriaxone has cross resistance with other antibiotics, all antibiotics have some cross resistance, they literally mix antibiotics into animal feed, all animal feed including chicken unless it's totally organic which is rare. You eat antibiotics when you eat meat.

by Anonymousreply 135November 27, 2022 2:11 AM

You get syphilis when you eat meat too. Especially raw meat. Now fuck off, you bizarre denialist.

by Anonymousreply 136November 27, 2022 2:14 AM

I buy organic meat without anti biotics
