A Real Disappointment - Carbone’s Jarred Pasta Sauce
After all the full that was made about the very tacky restaurant Carbone’s rolling out their own line of jarred pasta sauces, I was quite excited to try them.
I bought the marinara and the spicy one.
Huge letdown! Bland and boring. Victoria or Rao or Mezzetta are far better, especially if you’re going to doctor them up.
I read the brutal NYT review of the restaurant afterwards and felt quite stupid.

And I laughed, and I laughed…

I haven’t seen it in the stores here, so I haven’t tried it. Does it contain sugar? That’s a big no no for me with jarred sauces. I like Rao’s, but Victoria tasted odd to me the one time I bought it.

Ingredients for the marinara:
Italian Tomatoes (Whole Peeled Tomatoes, Tomato Puree, Sea Salt, Basil), Onions, Olive Oil, Sea Salt, Basil, Garlic, Oregano.

Maybe it was the oregano or the garlic/onion balance that wasn’t working.
I thought it tasted cheap.
