Homeland had a great first season then the Carrie and Brody thing went on way too long for two seasons more. In how many episodes did Carrie scream ‘Brody!’…I lost count. I bailed after they killed off the Peter Quinn character. No idea what happened the last couple seasons after that.

Just just clear this thread quickly. Every Ryan Murphy series.
Done.

Two teen-appeal series of the early '00s: The O.C. and Everwood. Never as good after the respective first seasons.
Everwood's Hannah character (seemingly an author-insertion figure for the female showrunner of seasons 3 and 4) was like a Mary Sue cautionary exhibit. She ticked every box: tragic back story; "awkward" but brilliant and gifted; adored by all the other characters, who would talk about her when she wasn't in a scene. The actress went on to play Sal's wife on Mad Men.

Resident Alien. The first season was fantastic, the second very uneven.

Lost is a great pick. The questions were invariably more interesting than the answers on that show.
Disagree on Twin Peaks, though. Season 2 had a lot of terrible episodes in the middle, but began and ended strong. And The Return was awesome.
Oh! A place must be made for Desperate Housewives.

Most of Ryan Murphy's oeuvre falls into this category going as far back as Popular.

The first season of Revenge was good and fun. Dreck to follow.

Definitely Heroes. I adored Season 1, but hated the subsequent seasons.

R21 very good list! (bad formatting 😵💫)

The Affair and Stranger Things had nowhere to go. So expected. Damages could have sustained it.
