Does anyone else feel this way? It feels very negative nowadays, most people online just bitch about the celebrities they don’t like. I think the Your Fave Is Problematic Tumblr blog is partially responsible for this. It turns out the owner of that blog regrets making it and even wrote an article about it.
Celebrity gossip isn’t really fun anymore

Tumblr was the beginning of a mass retardation of the masses. TikTok is putting the final nails in the coffin.

R1 Twitter is just as bad imo.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||November 23, 2022 4:24 AM|
R1 Tumblr is actually chill now.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||November 23, 2022 4:24 AM|
Celebrity culture is not fun. The stars are much smaller, the mystique is gone. Started in early aughts and has only gotten worse.

Only in America. Morbidly obese and diabetic hippos are abjectly depressed and vilely resentful, and their negativity is so toxic. They lash out at people who are thinner, prettier, richer, and healthier than they are.

Everyone is very sex negative, I've noticed. They think (gasp) age gap relationships and (GASP) extramartial affairs are grounds for moral condemnation. I know these people are mostly fat fraus, but still, they ruin my fun.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||November 23, 2022 4:35 AM|
I guess this was a "stealth" Tumblr-bashing thread but honestly, they're not to blame, as much as you personally hate them. Gossip has been going south for a long time, mostly because it was appropriated by Q loon types. It started with Tea Partiers and their weird obsessions over liberal celebrities like Oprah and Clooney, and has turned into a whole industry.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||November 23, 2022 4:37 AM|
Well, yes, they are all too happy to tell all of the dirt themselves, sell their own nudes, and no one loses a career over drugs or an out of wedlock baby anymore, and everyone has PR.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||November 23, 2022 4:38 AM|
It's too sanctimonious and moralistic. No one can ever just gossip and titter at the two rich spoiled brats getting a divorce. Nowadays everything is about " Lets Talk About The Misogynist Reactions To Olivia Divorcing Jason". Or " No, It's Not Okay To Laugh At Amber Taking A Dump on Johnny's Bed". I'm thinking everytime I read these headlines that these people will all be fine at the end of the day. Well, maybe not drug addicted Johnny. But still, they have more resources than 90 percent of us.

I mean, Bhad Bhabie acts that way, and she bought a million dollar Miami home.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||November 23, 2022 4:39 AM|
Agreed! I'm sick of this weak-tit DeuxMoi "anon please" sightings of reality stars out to dinner. Bring back the '90s National Enquirer "Jacko the Wacko sleeps in a hyperbaric tent" headlines! At least in the aughts we had dlisted. Now there's nothing.

Something else that's been a problem is that online writers are almost entirely Millennials, and they (even now, when they're in their 40s) have no exposure to old gossip and old Hollywood legends and stories, so when the old guys behind CDAN et al. recycle that stuff, the Millennial online writers make a mess of it because they have no frame of reference.
That's why we get weird things like Millennial writers claiming CDAN made up all the old Kirk Douglas rumors. Or some Millennial writer on Twitter freaking out about a blind she thinks is about Taylor Swift but is really just some old gossip from Raquel Welch's heyday in the 1970s.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||November 23, 2022 4:41 AM|
Now they even want to politicise any divorce or cheating scandal between celebs. I remember back in the days where we could talk about that mostly in a funny manner, like in the mid-2000s with Brad-Jen-Angelina or Britney-KFed
|by Anonymous||reply 14||November 23, 2022 4:43 AM|
True r10 but it goes the other way, too. We can't just have fun talking about royal gossip anymore, because the Q Loon Mulatto Haters' Club has taken over any and all talk about any royal. We can't talk about George Clooney because he's also been coopted by the Q loons.

Tumblr gave a voice to the sanctimonious, full-of-shit SJW, who WAS NOW GOING TO BE HEARD!!! so I feel they are to blame for a lot. And yes, that other thing you mentioned, Twitter is just as bad. I am honestly just trying to forget it even exists.

As an Old Hollywood fan I’m just not fazed by the age gap relationships of celebrities. Unless the younger celebrity comes out and says they were victimized in the relationship, I don’t care.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||November 23, 2022 4:45 AM|
R14 " politicize". Yes, this is spot on. What's bizarre is how far we've regressed when it comes to discussing divorce. It is no longer possible that 2 people can both be troubled and behave in ways that lead to a split. There has to be an Innocent and An Abuser. Never any nuance.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||November 23, 2022 4:45 AM|
It’s possible to be a fan of someone or their work and not condone all of their behavior. But not everyone seems to understand this.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||November 23, 2022 4:46 AM|
R15 I stopped bothering with the Markle threads because of how insane and humorless a lot of her hardcore haters are. There's actually a lot of material to mine to make fun of the silly Harkles but some posters here are too crazed and paranoid about her to be funny.

Tumblr never had that many users and it was always easy to avoid the nuts on there. It didn't lead to a "mass" ANYTHING. There were rarely articles in major newspapers about anything that was said on Tumblr.
You can't say the same for Twitter, or even AOL back in the day, or Facebook years ago, or TikTok these days. All had a much larger effect on the culture than Tumblr ever did.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||November 23, 2022 4:53 AM|
Why did this dumbass go public? If I created that stupid blog I would hide my head in shame and hope that no one ever found out.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||November 23, 2022 4:54 AM|
R21 True but once porn was banned on Tumblr, a lot of people migrated to Twitter and brought that site’s worst qualities with them. Much of the discourse you see on Twitter and TikTok today was already discussed on Tumbkr years ago.

R18 Hence the Cold-GooP conscious uncoupling. Pretentious and off-putting, yes, but they had a reasonable division of legal binding and assets with little to no drama and have had other relationships and co-parented like normal humans (from what we have seen).
I’m no fan of Gwynnie, but for someone who has her fair share of romances and relationships, she doesn’t seem to do drama and not many messy breakups

R7 it's not just fraus and some age gaps have caused controversy because of how gross they are. It's actually weird when they get negative about sex because those Buzzfeed thirst tweets can get violent.

Spot on with that part about vengefulness masked as social justice. The Harry Styles fans are the worst. They called Olivia Wilde a predator for dating a 28 year old man, meanwhile they write and read weird porn-y fanfic about him. That is some THINLY disguised jealousy.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||November 23, 2022 7:52 AM|
Gossip was never designed to be fun
|by Anonymous||reply 27||November 23, 2022 8:11 AM|
It always comes down to awareness of negativity and instead of turning away, people rather join or watch it grow bigger and bigger and complain that it gets bigger and bigger without being part of the solution to make it smaller and smaller and maybe one day disappear.
Social media can do good, or it can do bad, depending on each individual user. You can find an online support group for anything, including negative and destructive habits and opinions.

It does get a bit tiresome. Can't talk about plastic surgery because that's body shaming, if you don't hate JK Rowling then you're automatically a transphobe and don't even think about speculating someone's sexuality - you shouldn't be so invasive. Instead you should be respecting their privacy.
