Why do posters put a numbered post in brackets with no accompanying text?

Because they have blocked the poster yet still want to see what they posted.

They either:

a) don't know how to use the ignore list to view block posts

or

b) they don't give a shit about anyone but themselves and will happily fill up a thread with empty posts referring to other posts because it's more convenient for them. They couldn't care less if it fills up the thread with garbage.

OP has been here so long he's near the top of my ignored list (he's an anti-trans rightwing troll) so it speaks to his lack of intelligence that, even now, he doesn't know how to use R-numbers to reply.

You don't have to use the ignore trick to see posts, just copy the URL of the page and open it in a private tab, all the replies will show up.

Gap Guy knows how to do this, he just likes irritating people by posting nothing but R numbers. YourMillennialFriend does it too, no idea if they're the same person or not.

I’ve been here since 2005. I have never tried to read any of the subsequent posts of those I have on ignore. Why would you?

I think it's because they know that a bunch of people have blocked them. By doing the numbers brackets thing, their posts get seen by those who have blocked them.

I think the "someone mentioned you" notifications have disappeared, though. Gap Guy was abusing those notifications with all the R-number replies, so they may have just disabled those notifications to stop that.
