I think the real reason why autists get a bad wrap is that they physically appear to be normal. I’ve never been around Down’s people but deaf and blind people can be manipulative.
Anyone who is diagnosed, normally in adolescence, with a disability is thereafter treated differently, particularly by their parents. This naturally shapes the arcs of relationships that they have later in life.
