Corporatized doctor's office

My PCP was a solo practioner. Then a few years ago his office became affiliated with a large hospital system in our area. They got a lot of fancy new equipment but things started to change -- more bureaucracy, more intrusive questions, more forms to fill out for patients.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Oh yeah. I am in the SF Bay Area and Sutter fucking cunting Health has taken over EVERYWHERE. A complete disaster. Makes Kaiser look like the Mayo Clinic. Everyone who works there look like the want to die and take you with them. I am getting older (duh) and I am scared what my options are going to be in a few years. I have already put the brakes on getting looked at when it is likely worst time for me to be doing so.

Oh yeah, it's miserable for the patients, but also miserable for the doctors too. And they have all these systems, yet none of them ever seem to talk to one another.

I guess I'm lucky that I even have healthcare, but I genuinely feel for people with chronic health issues. The corporate health care system is surely one of Dante's circles of Hell.

Depersonalized conveyor belt medical care.

by Anonymousreply 3November 22, 2022 7:24 PM

I uncharacteristically yelled at the appointments woman on the phone the other day. I'm 50, fair skin, family history of skin cancer, and I've had this recurring growth on my nose that bleeds then disappears til I comes back again. I dunno, sounds like something I should have checked out, right? Well when I called the Dermatologist office and explained this she just said "the doctor is booked until the end of January 2023."

Seriously, what am I supposed to do???

by Anonymousreply 4November 22, 2022 7:42 PM

R4, is there an urgent care option you can ask about?

by Anonymousreply 5November 22, 2022 7:57 PM

r4 Go to the best rated urgent care in your area. Real doctors staff urgent care centers, and can override directives like the ridiculous one you encountered and get you in to see someone with a quickness. Seriously, some of the best care I have ever had has been in urgent care. They aren't ALL perfect but most of them are damn good. Good luck!

"yelled at the appointments woman"

R4 You think that person is truly in control? and deserves to be "yelled at?" Interesting.

by Anonymousreply 7November 22, 2022 8:01 PM

R7 The poster did say it was uncharacteristic of them. Hey that is some scary shit for someone with a family history of skin cancer and a growth on their schnozz that bleeds on a fucking whim.

by Anonymousreply 8November 22, 2022 8:35 PM

I hear ya, R4; I've had some chronic allergy issues & tried to get in to see a specialist only to be told that there was like a 3 month wait, or something like that. I sort of wailed about how my eyes were red & swollen & I needed to see someone soon, not 3 months from now. Luckily, she put me on some standby thing if anyone cancelled & I was in within a week or two. It's hard when you're genuinely in distress & need help and they can't fit you in - as if you sickness was the result of poor planning.

When all else fails, go to the ER and complain of chest pains, then "... oh, by the way, I just noticed this scab on my nose is bleeding."

[quote] more forms to fill out

This is one of my bugbears. Every time I go to the dentist/doctor there are forms to complete, asking for my name, DoB, SSN, etc. I refuse to fill in those bits because I AM THE SAME PERSON AS I WAS LAST TIME I FILLED IN THE FKN FORMS!

End of rant.

by Anonymousreply 11November 23, 2022 12:39 AM

Thanks for the advice. Next time it shows up I'll go to an urgent care clinic.

I really have never yelled at a worker before but I was exasperated by her inability to understand the seriousness of my situation.

by Anonymousreply 12November 23, 2022 12:41 AM

I'm sorry, OP, but you'll have to make an appointment with an in-network specialist to get an answer to that question. Here's a list of two but they are both on vacation until after Christmas.

For the bleeding area on his nose poster, I had those exact symptoms.. Went to the dermatologist, who sliced off the area with the little scalpel thingie, and sent it to the lab. Non-cancerous. Reason for the occasional bleeding? Unknown. Took the scar a good 3 months to heal though.
