Avon Sweet Honesty (1973)
“Even though we do not always agree, we always say how we feel. And through it all, there’s a beautiful place in the middle where we meet. Where it’s just you and me and SWEET HONESTY”.
Reminds me of getting my period at 13.

Zany (1981)
“The fun of wearing it is you wearing it for run”.
A light mossy scent with lively orange.

Are there any that don't smell cheap, trashy, Frauey and bargain bin BBW/TJ Maxx/catalogue-calibre? All of them I've smelled so far (dozens) come across like that.

Is Avon still around?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 21, 2022 3:51 PM |
Avon Products Inc is the fourth largest global cosmetics business. Their biggest market is Brazil. HQ in London. They are about to close their Suffern NY r&b plant for a move to Brazil. Suffern and Avon have been synonymous since the company’s start over a hundred years ago.

R&D plant not r&b plant

Spray sweet honesty on your pussy!!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 21, 2022 4:13 PM |
Their fragrances mostly copy whatever is hot at the moment—I've never smelled one that didn't remind me of something else. Ex: Timeless was supposed to smell like "brown" perfumes like Tabu, Youth-Dew, and Obsession.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 21, 2022 5:04 PM |
Have not seen or heard of/from an Avon door-to-door lady in about 25 years. So I was a little kid in school the last time, probably. Have they all been let go? Or is their MLM passe now?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 21, 2022 5:07 PM |
Pavi Elle, for aspiring jailbait in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 21, 2022 5:13 PM |
Odyssey, Charisma, Timeless, Sweet Honesty, Occur, Far Away, Soft Musk, Night Magic, Topaze, and the Rare ____ (Gold, Sapphires, etc) are all great fragrances. Sweet Honesty reminds me a lot of Canoe or Ambush (both of which are almost identical) or another aldehydic floral - Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden or even the classic Je Reviens by Worth (not the reformulated crap).
Timeless is more alike to the classic Miss Dior - a leathery note chypre - than Tabu, which is a spicy oriental (like Youth Dew).

I’m sorry…what is this thread about? Genuine reviews of MLM perfumes or is this avant-garde cunting that is far outside my wheelhouse?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 21, 2022 5:14 PM |
Avon didn't used to operate like an MLM, with uplines and downlines, etc. You could just make extra money on your own time without having to buy a designated amount of inventory, meet a sales quota, or recruit other people. I think they still offer that option but now have an MLM track as well.

R16 Lanvin hasn't made My Sin since 1988. They still make Arpege.
My Sin was never an Avon.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 21, 2022 5:22 PM |
My Sin! My favorite!

No mention of Avon's extensive line of MEN'S fragrances?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 21, 2022 5:27 PM |
I remember my grandmother's Hawaiian White Ginger creme sachet. It made my head spin; and not in a good way.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 21, 2022 5:28 PM |
Avon fragrances get a bad rap (despite the high quality of many of them) because of those ridiculous decanters.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 21, 2022 5:31 PM |
R20 the ones I am familiar with (have smelled) are Wild Country, Black Suede, and Mesmerize for Men. Those are all classics and worth looking into.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 21, 2022 5:32 PM |
My mom died in August and she sold Avon for 40 years. I've already donated a ton of makeup, shower gel, lip balm, hand cream, etc. (not 40 year old.stuff...LOL) and will be sorting Round 3 next week. Lots of old jewelry that may be a "treasure" and "worth something" if I take the time to research it and plan a sale.
One more recent men's fragrance that I think smells really good is called Mesmerize. I kept the soap on a rope version. Who knew they were still making soap on a rope?!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 21, 2022 5:35 PM |
These fragrances reek of alcohol, cheap scents
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 21, 2022 5:55 PM |
Sweet Honesty was supposed to be similar to Love’s Baby Soft

I get an Avon soap for my husband's stocking every Christmas. They used to be soap on a rope, which was so retro and fun. This year there is no rope.

Well, smell you!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 21, 2022 10:50 PM |
My sister had an upside down ice cream cone that was a perfume thing. She also had ice cream cone lip sticks. My mom would put an Avon soap on a rope in my Christmas stocking for years.

I have a bottle of Wild Country on my sink surround next to my bottle of Obsession. Wild Country is not a long-lasting scent but it's good for two or three hours. Not that I am a cologne freak. Of course, I never wore either in the years I went to the Mineshaft. Just a dab of Crisco on my wrist.

Avon Imari….a cheap version of Opium
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 22, 2022 1:45 PM |
Did they actually have perfumes? What I remember from childhood were the "creative" bottles and product containers that were meant to be used afterward. I never remember anyone talking about the actual products. I assumed they were crap.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 22, 2022 1:48 PM |
R43 you missed out on the cult of Avon scents.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 22, 2022 1:49 PM |
Foxfuck - the bold new fragrance that is raw and rabid.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 22, 2022 1:51 PM |
I recall purchasing Cotillion in a bottle shaped like a woman in a hip skirt as a Christmas gift for my grandmother in the 70s. ,I also recall using the tiny sample lipsticks on myself too as a gayling.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 22, 2022 2:10 PM |
R47, that's adorable.
We need an immediate cavalcade of Avon "art".
This is for you, R47. I call it - Dialing With a Pencil
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 22, 2022 2:15 PM |
They used to have little solid perfumes in cute compacts. My mother had a friend whose bureau was covered with all the exotic decanters/bottles. She gave me one of the solid perfumes and I was in heaven.
Their lip balms and glosses were really fun. They came in all sorts of creatively shaped containers. Chocolate chip cookie, fried egg, hamburger.
Some of the Ariana Grande perfumes come in creative bottles now.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 22, 2022 2:44 PM |
I hadn't bought Avon for years until a few years ago, when we realized our new town/new home also came with a whole lot of hungry mosquitoes.
There's a Skin So Soft spray that works on them and it's pretty decent at its job. It's not the prettiest scent ever, but it's better than OFF!

Are you writing us from 1989?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 22, 2022 2:52 PM |
R51 my grandpa collected or should I say never threw away bottles of cologne he received over decades. He’d have bottles of 30 yr cologne bottles on his dresser that grandma would dust for decades. Never allowing her to throw them out because some distant relative foisted it upon him for a birthday or Christmas one time.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 22, 2022 3:00 PM |
R11 r46 my understanding is that brown perfume smells shit-like.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 22, 2022 3:01 PM |

Candidiasis - the new intriguing fragrance with soft notes of yeast and fetid crotch odor
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 22, 2022 4:45 PM |
I still have a little Avon jar that was my mom's - god knows how old it is. But it has straight pins it in. It's practical but I think I keep it cause it was my mom's.
OMG I found it I opened it and now I think I lost a sewing needle in my carpet. Great.
Unlike this obsessive I only have the one.

r50 thanks for mentioning Skin So Soft - that fragrance takes me right back to my childhood and having it sprayed on me to keep the bugs away. A light, nice scent.
My grandma also used and wore Avon products, this thread is taking me down memory lane quite a bit....
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 22, 2022 5:00 PM |
My Aunt used to sell Avon, and my mother always used Topaze (which obviously she bought from her sister.) My aunt gave me Avon skin bracer when I was a kid, and to date, its the only thing I've ever been allergic to. (God knows what was in it!)
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 22, 2022 5:00 PM |
Snatch-So-Soft

r59, do you have one of those magnetic pick up tools? If not take a refrigerator magnet and tie it to a string and go over the area where you might have dropped the pin. Probably want to put some shoes on first.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 22, 2022 5:28 PM |
My Aunt Millie would stink so badly. She used to sell Avon and would marinate in whatever the latest fragrance was.
