A few years ago I was at Feinstein’s in San Francisco seeing Michael Feinstein and Lorna because there was a rumor Liza would show up. Damned if she didn’t and sat right behind me! Every now and then, Liza would let out a loud “HA!” during a Lorna story (or occasional bad note)-it was glorious! At the end, Lorna gave a shoutout to Liza and the audience begged her to sing a song. After 3 or 4 minutes of “don’t make me sang,” she sang a truly terrible rendition of I Love a Piano. I felt extra gay as I exited into the Tenderloin and made my way to Polk Street for a donut from Bob’s and a drink at The Cinch.
