For me = Emma Watson. I can't put my finger on it, but she's the embodiment of everything I loath about Hollywood and young actors. No charisma, mousy AF, zero talent, can't hold the screen, can't carry a costume, acts like she was an extra who's just accidentaly caught in the frame, speaks her lines as if she had just learned them phonetically and is insanely pretentious and stupid IRL. Conversely, Jeremy Northam. Could've watched a thousand movies with him.
Name an actor you just can't stand and hope to never see again on a screen , and one who you would love to see more of

Carey fucking Mulligan. She looks like Julian Assange.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 19, 2022 10:25 PM |
I dislike Emma Watson because we're forced to see her basic-ass face on the big screen simply because she was in the Harry Potter movies. Once she grew up and it became patently obvious that she was average looking and not that talented, she should've just vanished from the scene.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 19, 2022 10:26 PM |
That horse-faced bitch with two undeserved Oscars.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 19, 2022 10:30 PM |
She’s pretty, just googled her and she’s absolutely not average looking. Don’t know anything about her talent because she’s not been in any movie I’ve been interested in watching.
I hate awful people who have a negative impact on my life or others. I hate Trump and Mitch McConnell. I hate the surviving Koch brother.
Adam Sandler? Find him very annoying so I don’t watch his movies. Problem solved. Don’t hate him.
How is one forced to watch a movie? Is it some sort of Clockwork Orange thing?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 19, 2022 10:34 PM |
R1 I really disliked Adam Driver before I saw his TED talk. It changed my mind. Do give him a chance. Also, the thread should have been a poll. My vote goes to Emma Watson. She has all the unlikeable character traits of Hermine in the HP movies combined but has none of the latter's saving graces. When the movies were new, I underestimated the degree to which Radcliffe and Watson were typecast.

Would like to see way WAY more of hot hunky Matt Barr, and gay hunk Zane Phillips, as well as Asian cuties Manny Jacinto and Vincent Rodriguez III. Also, more of Jenna Ortega would be appreciated.

Meryl Streep. She always acts like she just graduated from drama school. Nothing about her performances is real.
I’d like to see more of British actress Ruth Sheen. Her acting is like they brought in an average British housewife and just turned on the camera. Her performances are sincere and effortless. Excellent in Another Year. Too bad she had Keeley Hawes stinking up her scene in It’s A Sun.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 20, 2022 10:20 AM |
I cannot watch anything with Angelina Jolie or the horrible Hilary Swank(thankfully neither is working much) . Also, the latest batch of Hollywood starlets they’re trying to push is dire: Florence (aptly named) Pugh, Anna de Armas, Gal Gadot, ugh.
There are never enough roles for Olivia Colman, Sigorney Weaver and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Elizabeth Moss (though, did like her in Mad Men)
Ben Stiller
More of, please:

Wendell Pierce
Ryan Gosling (NOT in the "pretty boy" roles; but, more along the lines of his earlier roles e.g. Blue Valentine, Half Nelson etc.)

R32 I'm not the person you responded to but that Emma Watson is an ungrateful "self-partnered" bitch has nothing to do with her qualities as an actress, but any of the two would suffice to make her end up on top of anyone's list. Imagine Watson giving acting masterclasses. She made the most of the popularity of the HP movies and will be a millionaire all her life. so why should it matter what we think anyway.

I love to watch Sigourney Weaver, Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. They are just magnetic. Foy and Weaver are immensely charismatic, and Colman just becomes her characters in a way which few actresses can match.
I love to watch Chris Hemsworth too, and not just because he is physically perfect. I think he has excellent comic timing and he’s just charming.

I hear Shelley Duvall is making a film and I wish the best for her.

Increasingly, Timothee Chalamet. I thought he was talented after watching CMBYN, now he just seems like a sneering little brat who wears ugly Ann Taylor blouses. None of his later performances were very good. Gudagino must have somehow wrestled a good performance from him. I don't like Ansel Elgort either. Too smug.

More: Ryan Gosling and Chris Pine, both of whom are gorgeous and funny with great comedic timing. Edgar Ramirez is brilliant and charming but seems to be mismanaged. He deserves a huge career. Less: Mark Wahlberg and Zachary Levi. Both smug and charmless. Zachary Quinto, egomaniacal yet wooden.

Emma Watson is not that talented..but to her credit she does seem to understand that she's limited. I don't see her being pushed in Oscar bait type of films. She stays in her lane .

by Anonymous | reply 138 | November 22, 2022 12:53 AM |
Wow Pugh is pretty disliked here. I don't think she's so much awful as she is very nondescript. It's a common theme with a lot of current actresses. They don't want to come across as hams so they go to the opposite extreme and render their performances forgettable.

r127, Deer Hunter and Kramer vs Kramer (though she's supporting in both), and there's an argument for Prada as a modern classic or whatever that means.
But her ex-boyfriend John Cazale has been dead 40+ years, only made 5 films, and has made more classics than her.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | November 22, 2022 4:29 AM |
Death Becomes Her is the most classic of her classics. Obviously.

R119 is the funniest thing I've read in days. Thank you.
Emma Watson is very pretty. The one who had the baby with the guy who died of a heroin OD is also pretty, but I don't like the super short hair, and her face is puffy. Oh yeah, Michelle Williams. She's a sexpot type.
Maggie Gyllenhal and Carrie Mulligan have had droopy faces since they were young. Carrie was pretty enough to pull it off (lovely in The Great Gatsby but you could see the droop) but I don't dislike them.

by Anonymous | reply 148 | November 22, 2022 12:08 PM |
R145, careful! Those goalposts! Your pelvic floor! You might sprain something!
Here's what you asked: "has Streep ever been in a classic, or even a good movie?"
I listed three movies that are generally seen as artistic and critical successes in which Meryl Streep appeared. I could have mentioned Out of Africa, Sophie's Choice or Kramer vs. Kramer, which were also seen as major films, but I don't particularly care for those movies personally and fun comedies :like Postcards from the Edge, The Devil Wears Prada and Death Becomes Her are probably too "frau" for the likes of you.
I know! Let's see whether you can get both fists up your gaping asshole! Elbow-deep this time? I bet you can!

Actors I’d like to see less of - The new Hollywood “darlings” like Anya Taylor-Joy, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, Timothée Chalamet, Tom Holland, Austin Butler etc. I’m just so over knowing every new movie that’s coming out is going to have at least one of them in and they’re all so overrated.
Actors I’d like to see more of - Elizabeth Olsen and Cody Fern. There’s just something about Cody that I find intriguing and given the right material (like Eden and American Crime Story) he really shines and I think he has the ability to go much further in his career if he stopped being so picky and branched out more when it comes to who he works with. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in Fairyland next year since it’s being produced by Sofia Coppola and it could potentially be the career boost he needs.

I tried to watch the Mummy movie Tom Cruise did a few years ago and I couldn’t make it past 10 minutes. The guy who plays his sidekick, Jake Johnson, has the most annoying voice I’ve heard in a long time. Fingernails on a chalkboard screechy. It was painful.
I’ve never seen this guy in anything, so idk if that’s how he sounds all the time, or it was just the yelling that makes him irritating like that, but he’s one I’ll avoid.
Anyone see the movie? Is it worth watching even with this annoying guy in it?

Same with Adam Driver. I think it’s his face but he also just grated on me from the second the movie started until I shut it off five minutes later.
They probably wouldn’t like me either so we’re even.
Harriet Sansom Harris should be in every movie and tv show. I’m another vote for Carrie Coon as well. I know this is a big Mary! but I really miss Philip Seymour Hoffman.

50+ cutsiie-pie Jennifer Garner has no talent, but preens for the cameras like she’s Hollywood royalty. Plus, she’s dumb.
Another Em to add to Watson (Emma - love Emily) and Roberts (so ridiculously vacant on-screen) is Emily Blunt. She was charming as a bitch in The Devil Wears Prada, but now she’s trying so hard to be Nicole Kidman with her fillers, nose job, and injections. She just has no charisma and always comes across so unlikeable (even as a wooden Mary Poppins).
Chris Evans looks like a former high school jock who had everything spoon fed to him by Hollywood that he lost any drive to develop acting talent.
Tracee Ellis Ross is neither funny nor pretty. She seem to believe she has both qualities. Her big bug eyes belong behind the camera.
Natalie Portman is short and whiny. A step above Brie Larson, but not much farther up.
