I haven't cared about Howard since he left mainstream radio and went to sirus xm. And even then I thought most of the show was stupid except for Robin's news.

He was a creep the way he treated Suzanne Vega in this interview.

I want him to bring back some of the old staff/wackpackers for updates. I'd love to know how KC Armstrong has fared over the years. He was into so many MLM's and get rich quick schemes, never holding a normal job. He had weird gigs for a while: security for escorts, stand up comic, personal trainer, scoring models for photoshoots.
He tried anything and everything to prolong his 15 minutes of fame from being on the show. He tried to be a model and went on auditions where he ended up having to disrobe and be examined by predatory male photographers. He took months trying to produce DVD's of his Jackass-like stunts and had to redo it all because he used copyrighted music and ended up refunding most of the pre-sale buyers because he kept messing with it. He almost died from being an alcoholic and did several stints in rehab. He won over $300K on a gambling website and lost it all within weeks by continuing to gamble. He spent time in jail after going to Alaska to confront his estranged girlfriend, then after he got released he picked up a Filipino trans in Alaska and made out with her, thinking it was a "real" woman.
I heard he has some kind of janky radio show but supposedly that was even a scam to sell airtime or something. I just wonder if the man ever got his shit together... if he ever got the mental health/substance abuse help he needed for so many years. Did he every get a real job, a stable relationship, kids?

I saw that Lizzo is an upcoming guest and I am sure that NEW Howard will not roast her on her weight like he would have done 5-10 years ago. I recall how he relentlessly went after Rosie O'Donnell when she had her talk show, making fun of her and calling her a pig, hog, giant head, etc. Later, when Howard happened to meet Rosie in real life, he sucked up to her and they ended up becoming friendly, so he became a hypocrite who only has balls when he has his microphone in front of his face. He did the same with Kathie Lee Gifford he would go on hours-long rants about her Goody Two Shoes life and even wish harm on her young children, but did a 180 turn when he got divorced and started interacting with more of the NY social/rich/celebrity scenes.
He's also been very critical of almost any celeb who was overweight and saying that he would bed almost any woman in his youth except a fat one. I don't mind Lizzo and she can live her life, but I kind of resent Howard for sucking up when a guest is in studio, after years of spewing venom at the same people who he had negative opinions on.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 28, 2022 7:33 PM |
The greatest guests Howard ever had were never the A-list celebrities. They were people like Tiny Tim, Jackie Stallone and Gilbert Gottfried. And Trump when he was where he belonged: Among the rest of the clowns and freaks.
And the staff fighting when it was Jackie, Billy, Fred, Stuttering John, Ralph.

by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 28, 2022 7:51 PM |
Howard is hard to take in large doses. He's got a show on HBO max with Bruce Springsteen. I guess Howard is interviewing him and BS is performing. I guess Howard is gonna kiss his ass for the whole show. I don't have anything against BS, I just wondered..... Why?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 28, 2022 7:53 PM |
Yikes R5, that was brutal. I could watch only a few minutes of it. Stern was so awkward and obtuse. That was rough.
The newer, enlightened Howard is even worse. Fresh out of ideas and generally humorless, he interviews guests like a real needy sycophant.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 28, 2022 8:15 PM |
I wish someone would study the evolution of Howard and pinpoint when he decided that he had to change his style, from prodding women to disrobe, asking his sycophant listeners to harass the local DJ's in markets that Howard was broadcasting to, to having Stuttering John go on red carpet events and ask humiliating questions. I think it may have started when his daughters entered puberty, he realized that not all females are bimbos. Then he started rubbing elbows with celebrities outside of the studio and he should change his behavior or risk scaring away potential future guests. One other scenario is that he realized that he was getting too old to still be referred to as "the bad boy of radio" .
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 28, 2022 9:46 PM |
I recall that he admitted that he felt remorse that he never called Robin Williams and apologized for making fun of him back in the day. He said he felt guilty after Robin killed himself and this has always weighed on his mind.

I wonder if a weight has been lifted off Howard's shoulders since his dad died, or did it more on him. I can see it going either way - he feels free of the yoke his father put on him ("shut up, sit down!") but then there's the guilt of even having bad feelings for the man. His psychiatrist will never go broke.

He’s pretty awful, was overpaid, and has always been a rebel without a brain. But I would bet he was very loyal and devoted to his parents, in spite of his impersonations of them. He was fortunate for their longevity. I think his mother is still alive, probably a wise old owl and proud of his success.
He earned a really good living from some generally shitty projects, and probably aches to be seen as a bigger presence in media than he is, or even ever was. He’s like our generation’s Milton Berle. He was also pretty harsh with aging comedians and disc jockeys over the arc of his career, so he might get the same or worse treatment in this last gasp. He’s not a great interviewer, even with subjects like Springsteen. He’s just “m’eh”. That must irritate the shit out of him. He’s more Fartman than Terry Gross. Sorry.

R25 He still spends the month of October (“Cocktober”) tittering with poor, sad old Robin over corny dick jokes, and has a bunch of desperate failures engage in competitions involving their penises. It’s really sad. His humor is still pubescent, so he’s like a 12 year old with progeria.
Robin’s cackle was always forced. But on this side of 70, it’s more sad. The two of them remind me of elderly dogs struggling to get up the stairs, but with puppy mill genes, no hybrid vigor.
The dignified thing would be to simply disappear.

I used to listen every day since the WNBC days, but I got annoyed with his narcissism in the days when he was trying to be actor/author/show producer/singer, etc. He became insufferable when he started trying to juggle a thousand projects and brag/complaint about how BUSY he always was and how many meetings he had to attend and phone calls. We had to hear how he was writing and producing the crappy show "Son of the Beach", even to the point of flying to CA to check things out. He also was working on a show "Howard Stern" The High School Years" and a remake of the movie "Porky's". Every time he'd go on a rant of all the things he was doing, I would yell at the radio "stop doing so much or stop complaining". It became apparent that he was an extreme Type A guy who had to fill every waking hour with "something". Finally he stopped talking about HSTHSY and Porky's and admitted that it was all too much. Then came the year or so waiting for his contract to run out so he could move over to Sirius. So much yakking about how much better that company would be when Howard moved over there. What an ego.
I finally went back to listening when he went to satellite, but didn't stay long because the show had lost much of the flavor from the broadcast years.

R30 I remember that “King of All Media” era and the cheesy narcissism. He spoke of the movie Private Parts like it was a pre-ordained Oscar nominee. I listened on KROC, but dropped off went he went to Sirius. There was a lot of nonsense about a huge compensation scheme, but it sounded sketchy and fishy. His numbers (audience, salary, ratings) always seemed all hugely inflated.
But I do think he was secretly kind to fuck-ups like poor Artie. His affiliates generally included a lot of sad characters, and the humor was pretty mean and base, with archaic putdowns like midget, retard, etc. In the cold light of history, it’s all pretty shabby. Some have died and lapsed into obscurity. It’s all pretty sad and feels exploitive in the end.
Robin’s attempts to break out on her own were pretty sad, too. Dead-on-arrival talk shows, cheesy amateurish cooking segments on YouTube. Really bad. I remember she once locked herself out of her Range Rover a long time ago, with the vehicle’s engine running. That was pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 29, 2022 6:57 PM |
It became amusing to listen to all of the office peons trying to become stand up comics or anything else to take advantage of their time on the Stern show. All of these fools trying to make a few extra bucks flying to comedy club gigs on the weekends, inspired by the money they saw Artie raking in: Shuli, Stuttering John, KC Armstrong, Richard, Sal, Scott the Engineer, JD Harmyer and others hoping to step up to the next level. Richard and Sal even had their own T-shirts, but the gravy train didn't shoot them into major fame. Unfortunately, the worst guy got the most fame, that horrible Ronnie Mund, who got a troupe named after him.
The only person I can think of that made a real name for themselves from their association with the show is Eli Roth.

R27 - I posted a similar rant in a different HS thread here after I checked out the Marksfriggin rundown a few weeks ago and had to shake my head hearing that a 67(?) year old dude was still doing things like "Cocktober", and letting retarded juveniles Richard and Sal think up all kinds of cock related games and activities for the whole month of October.
They let Cocktober extend into Cocktember and and featured various activities involving dicks. I saw a recent pic of Richard and Sal and they are not looking like middle aged men anymore - now they look like borderline senior citizens. I can't be the only one cringing when they read about a bunch of old geezers playing dick games.
I love your description of poor old Robin and Howard as two old dogs. I'm glad that she beat cancer but I gave up on her years ago because of her soulless, autopilot laugh.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 29, 2022 7:25 PM |
Robin has led an amazing life, going by all of her travels and experiences. She's been around the world and has seen many interesting places, which I envy her for, then there were the wacky things she did that made her look eccentric. The list starts with her going alone to India and taking ayahuasca in the jungles of S. America, starting various childrens charities to raise money for underprivileged children, being a Big Sister to at least one child that I remember. Soon, she's driving racing cars and taking lessons to drive her own pleasure boat. Almost drowning in her own pool. Flying across country to use a machine that pushes the fluids inside your body around, and hiring Dr Ronnie to live in her home and prepare drinks to detox her body and to wrap her in a full-body contraption that sweats the poisons out. Then she goes vegan at the drop of a hat and becomes a hardcore snob to people still eating meat. I'm sure I left out many other Robin antics.
Over the years various people have suggested that Robin does all these things to fill the void of not having a husband/children. I remember that Jason from the back office said that and Robin blew up on him. What Robin needed to understand is that a lot of people were thinking that, myself included, and she should have understood and not flown off the handle for people having that opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 29, 2022 7:51 PM |
Not having a husband/child is not a void, r36. How do you think she has time to live a life of travel and basically doing all the shit she wants to do?

I like when Robin was with Mr. X. He was entertaining when he appeared on the show and hearing about his exploits behind the scenes, like throwing water on Stuttering John at a restaurant. They seemed like a good match, until Robin told a story about getting rid of a boyfriend who put her down and made her miserable. She didn't specify it was Mr X but who knows.
I also liked the time when Robin was dating some younger blond painter guy named Brendan, and dragging him around as her protégé and was trying to make him an up and comer.. There was a significant age difference between him and Robin. It came out that she was corralling the disgruntled office drones to do the grunt work (planning, creating guest lists) for her when she would set up showings for this dude and then telling Howard, etc. that she expected them to show up to these shows, and purchase her boytoy's art. It was funny when Howard finally snapped and told her that he was not going to keep going to these shows and she was like a parent selling candy for her kids school. This relationship ended in tears. Robin spoke about it but never said the guys name - supposedly, she caught him dirty dancing with a young woman at a party where they came together. The rumor mill was also that this guy had no real interest in Robin, other than using her to further his career. Ouch.
A running joke was that Robin could not keep an assistant, that her high standards and erratic behavior chased people away from her.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 29, 2022 9:37 PM |
Robin was a poor kid who did something with her life, made a fortune, and actually enjoys the her money. She goes to shows, she travels, she takes chances and explores. Good for her. I find her fascinating and a true American success story. What I always found funny is that a lot of the stuff that Robin did, Howard ended up doing after his marriage to Beth and he loosened up. No one needs a partner/husband/wife/children to have a fulfilling life.

I'd like to hear about Miss Howard Stern. She started out cute and funny, with her baby voice but turned into a horrible mess, getting many needless surgical upgrades, drunk or drugged most of the time she showed up and saying she didn't plan to live past the age of 30. Then she had that horrifying car accident, ending up with a plate in her head. The last time I heard her on the air was when she came in to the studio for a Dating Game thing, where one of her rules is that the contestants had to be millionaires who would give her unlimited money. She ended up picking some guy, asking him to take her shopping at expensive NY boutiques and then jumped on a plane home later that same day. She was the ultimate gold digger, using her looks, etc. for profit.
I hope she got her shit together and is raising her daughter Beyonce so she doesn't end up like Mom.

There are various bits from the past that I will always remember for the amazing entertainment value: Mitts on a Misfit -- contestants had to stand around a table where Beetlejuice was laying, and keep hands on him at all times. Of course, Beet was problematic. 2) Stuck on You - Jeff the Drunk was handcuffed to a woman named Jenny and she would win $25K if she made it X hours. Jeff was a miserable mess during the whole ordeal. 3) Another endurance contest - being shackled to High Pitch Eric for X hours to win a cash prize. The woman who was picked freaked out in about 6 hours with the monster that is HPE and dropped out and got nothing. 4) KC Armstrong coming into the studio with the Filipino trans that he picked up while in Alaska. They made out, kissed, etc. but KC denies it went further and he thought she was female.
5) The Tiger Woods GF contest - several women who had dated TW during his sex spree came in and the one with the "best story" of their time with Tiger would win a cash prize. This was prime Howard -- interesting and funny.

The Artie vs Teddy fight will always be epic. Artie tries to physically assault his assistant in the studio and is only stopped when 3-4 of the staff grab and subdue him, while Robin yells "what the F is going on here!?!". This was the day before the show went on vacation and the world had to wait 7 days to see whether Artie was allowed to return to the studio. Luckily, Sirius forgave him and he was back.
Poor Artie went from being the luckiest comedian in the world to a messed up addict with a destroyed nose.

This week is HORRIBLE. Like more horrible than usual.
And he's bragging about that Springsteen interview he did (that is apparently being shown on HBO) like he's the only one who ever got an interview with him. Motherfucked has done 30 interviews this month. Howard has become so embarassing.

Howard's leering horny guy schtick only worked cause he was married and played the henpecked schlemiel. Now that he's a millionaire approaching 70, it would be just creepy and upsetting to be doing the same thing he was doing 35 years ago.
You might hate the new Howard act but he needed to evolve if he was gonna stay on the radio.
I always thought (and still think) he's an amazing interviewer. He stole a lot of his tactics from Terry Gross.

He’s awful now. He’s everything he used to laugh at and said he didn’t want to be.
I don’t listen to him anymore. I can’t imagine who his audience is now.
He always said he wanted his show to sound like talking in a bar. That was the magic of it.
Now he’s like a cranky Barbara Walters.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 30, 2022 5:07 PM |
His pre-Sirius show was a lot funnier—I think his humor needed the guardrails of terrestrial radio to push against.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 30, 2022 5:28 PM |
While it's true that Howard has toned down the stupid horndog stuff, he is still subjecting his audience to that disgusting Ronnie Mund. He let that creep run wild for years with the stripper club stories, then he gave much precious airtime to Ronnie and his stories of trapping a younger woman and their sex life -- so cringey. Ronnie has retired and left the show but Howard still has him on and their talks inevitably turn to Ronnie's depravity.
I got the Howard is living vicariously through Ronnie's old codger exploits, that hearing that Ronnie is still so horny pushing 70 gives Howard hope the he will still be able to do the deed with Beth as the years pass. Lucky Beth, huh? My other opinion is that Howard is playing to his demo of males and dudes like to hear about other dudes banging women.

I used to wonder about Benjy Bronk and what kind of mental illness he has. He would argue when admonished for his continue lateness, he would not tell his real age, he made up outrageous stories about having a famous relative and you never knew if he was for real or it was "the Benjy vortex". Is he a brilliant comic or your random eccentric?
He also seemed like a downlow creep, admitted that he trolled Craigslist for sleazy anonymous hookups. He had a GF for a while, Elisa, who he kept trying to boost her singing career, even though she said she was not attracted to him. He was living in a storage unit for a while, a few years ago he went on the air asking if anyone had a spare room for him to use. This dude is in his 50's and can't get a decent roof over his head? I think a lot of weird crap may come out when Benjy kicks the bucket.

R57 Benjy is a pretty soft target. The psychology of his appearances on the air is so strange. They goad him into disclosing unseemly things about himself, his body, his dating habits. Then they dogpile on him and hem him into a corner. He stumbles and tries prevaricating, but it’s usually Robin who daggers him (often justifiably, yet it’s all so uncomfortable and pretty horrible).
Maybe fans enjoy hearing Benjy or High Pitch Eric being tipped over like turtles clawing at the air, but it’s usually lurid and sad. It’s also really yucky when they try to goad George Takei into saying (or singing) really dirty things. The “humor” is prurient, and pretty stupid. If only they were funny, but they really haven’t been in over 2 decades.

Not at all, R61. He actually spent the entire interview kissing her morbidly obese ass. He only referenced her weight when he discussed her childhood when kids were picking on her for being a nerd and "a bigger girl". The old Howard would have said, they made fun of you because you were a big old fatso. And then asked why she was so obese and if it had to do with her relationship with her father (a common question he asks all his guests).

I read that Crazy Cabbie had some terrible health issues happen to him after he left the show. He developed Guillain-Barre syndrome, which attacks the nervous system and causes muscle weakness. The last thing I read about him is that he is in a wheelchair and needs extensive therapy/rehab.
I loved CC on the show and no one can say that he was not entertaining. When Howard found CC's mother, we were all glued to the radio. On top of that, he was an endless source of crazy - his military stories were hilarious, not paying his taxes and jail time gave months of on-air fuel, boxing Stuttering John, etc. While laughing at those antics, his drug addictions and rehab/mental hospital visits were a serious look at what an addict goes through. Not sure how his disease progresses but I hope the best for the guy.

I have no idea how much time is left on Howard's current contract, but I figure it can't be more than a year or two. I've listened for the last 30 years and EVERY TIME the contract expires Howard has said he's ready to finally walk off into the sunset. but then he always re-signs. For various reasons, I think this time he may finally take the big step. My main reason is losing his dad, his mothers poor health, Covid, him wanting to still be able to do things while he's still mostly mobile, he's tired, wants to go out on a high note, etc.
If this is his last year(s) on the air, I thought about who I'd most like to hear him have on the show and I want Artie Lang, so they can finally clear the air.

I liked Sour Shoes’ imitation of Booey. It’s repetitive but then so is Booey. Nothing is more repetitive than Ronnie and Stephanie. Unlistenable.
Artie is a repressed gay man. When he “came out” to George Takei as a prank, that was the truest to himself he’s ever been. Shameful because he could be very funny, but he’s so self-loathing.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | December 14, 2022 3:17 AM |
I read that Ronnie and his fianceè have finally set a wedding date. This news will surely be used to insert Ronnie even more into the show, as they count down to the actual day. I am so glad that I will not have to listen to Ronnie be more grumpy in response to any questions about the planning, etc. and be negative to every inquiry to his upcoming nuptials.
To the people who think that Artie is on the DL, I used to wonder about that after he drunkenly propositioned the gay guys during his Queer Eye for the Straight Guy rants. However, no matter how I try to spin it, I can't see Artie going for a man, even being 100% repressed.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | December 15, 2022 3:27 AM |
The thing about Ronnie is that you can tell he is making everything up as he goes along. The dude tells ten lies every time he appears on the show. It’s ridiculous and obvious and neither Howard nor Robyn calls him on it or digs further to expose the bullshit. If they did that, Ronnie might actually be entertaining. To a point.

I remember when Stuttering John left for the Tonight Show and the hard time they gave him. Howard pointed his anger at Jay Leno for "stealing" his guy, but I got a hint of jealousy from Howard and Gary that John had landed such a primo position - a national TV show with a great salary and perks. However you feel about it, it made for great radio. My focus is on how far John has fallen since then.
John got divorced and seemed to have self-destructed after that. I recall the show making fun of him when he had sold a screenplay and John Travolta was supposed to star in the film (which never got made). He went off my radar for quite a few years until I saw that he was doing a podcast, where he mostly talked about his time on Stern and having various ex staff members and former guests from the show on bitching about everything in the past. John's voice was hella raspy, which I recognize is what happens to a lot of alkys and druggies from years of abuse. You could tell that John was at the bottom of the barrel but still clinging on to a thread of his old fame.
Yesterday I saw a YT video of some other guys who were just roasting John on how deep in a black hole he is -- they were describing how John has been reduced to doing a stand up act in a bar and grill in Iowa. Not a comedy club - a bar and grill. They laugh that John stayed at the home of the bar owner on Thanksgiving, readying for his show instead of spending the holiday with his family. Then they play clips of John recounting that he got so drunk that he was admitted to a local hospital. I think John should go on the DL 2023 Death Pool... the guy is spiraling.

I never listened to his show..no interest. I did see his interview with Hillary Clinton, on Sirius....on YouTube....5 parts. I thought he did a good job interviewing her, asked good questions and wasn't an asshole like his earlier shows. Hillary came off as a lot more likable and told some good stories. This interview was before the 2020 election, with her comments on trump.

IIRC Howard was happy for John but was pissed how Jay went about it... Howard said he would never begrudge one of his employees making more money for their family. Howard was correct that Jay just took John without a real plan on how to use him and it didn't end well for him
by Anonymous | reply 90 | December 20, 2022 9:34 PM |
Besides the time John left, I remember Howard having a chippy attitude when various other staffers left. He gave off the vibe that anyone leaving was basically ungrateful for having been allowed to be on his show, that leaving indicated that there was something better out there than the show, showing Howard's ego and narcissism.
As an example, he gave Shuli a hard time when he said he was moving to another state/leaving the show. Howard went on for far too long on how Shuli's life was going to change/nothing will ever equal the experience he had as a staff member, instead of wishing him good luck.

Jackie appeared on the show in 2010.

Jackie was on the Sirius show about 2-3 times, where the audience was again subjected to hearing Jackie be roasted for leaving the show a million years ago and rubbing it in that he "messed up". They never drop this topic to this day whenever Jackie's name comes up. Give it a rest.
Jackie was given his own show on Howard's 2nd Sirius channel, which ran for a good 7-8 years. I never listened to it.

A few years ago I was watching The Peoples Court and the defendant was Gary Garver, who used to do remote interviews for the show. What was most shocking was how much this guy (intentionally, I think) looked like Howard - he has a long thin face, big nose and was rocking the big Jewish afro. I forget what the case was about, but it was amusing to see him.
Last time I saw a picture of Ralph Cirella, he was also still trying to look like a Howard clone. Besides Benjy, I would love a serious examination of Ralph's life, all his years of being Howard's stylist, sucking off Howard's fame and leeching on to celebrities like Sam Simon and John Stamos. I wonder what he does with his time now that he no longer has to pick out Howard's wardrobe.

Another ex-staffer who left the show that I didn't miss is Brent, that guy who came from Bubba the Love Sponge's show. He was okay at first, then became a Ronnie clone, dropping tales of his sordid swinger sexcapades with his surgically enhanced wife. Brent seemed to want to compete with Ronnie in who was more depraved.
He seemed to be losing his mind for a while before he quit/got fired, because he kept being roasted that his wife was in love with some guy she had banged on the side and Brent said she wasn't. Good riddance.

As far as Artie, I think his life and drug addiction was largely affected when he was on a roof with his dad installing an attenna and his dad fell off and became a quadriplegic. I think he blames himself for the accident.

I liked the Stern show back in the day, when it was on terrestrial radio.
A lot of it was just shock-for-shock's sake, but I remember at times it was genuinely hilarious, to the point where I was literally crying tears of laughter.
I did find it hard to listen to for the whole show, I'd usually turn it off after a short while, then maybe turn it back on when they went into the news.
I never really gave a shit about the wack packers. I thought that was always the most boring part of the show. And being a gay guy, I had no interest in all the lesbian stuff. I liked the interviews, the constant ball-busting among the staff, the ragging on self-important celebrities, and the riffing on the news of the day.
I only listen now when I'm in a rental car that happens to have Sirius turned on...in other words, almost never. But I'm glad he's evolved. He's a senior citizen now, it's only right that he should calm down and act human.

Besides Ronnie, my other least favorite staffer/guests were: Eric the Actor. He started out okay, calling in randomly but he got greedy after Howard started giving him random cash prizes because he felt sorry for him. After that, Eric was like a pigeon looking for crumbs. I know, Howard took him to another level of caller, but I got sick of ETM's asking for handouts, then parts on TV shows, then tickets to concerts, then flights to NY to see American Idol people, hooking up with porn starts, going to the Bunny Ranch, but never wanting to give anything in return.
Worse than ETM was Johnny Fratto, who started calling in every time ETM farted to tell Howard about it. I REALLY hated Fratto using the show to hype ETM and himself and muted the show until he got off.

My most hated caller was/is King of All Blacks. That creep makes my flesh crawl and made me ashamed to share his skin color. He was so into brand names, boasting about having Moen faucets, bragging about stupid stuff like his car, his watch, his sneakers, what designer clothes he has. There is a picture floating around of him in the HS studio wearing a fur coat, which shows you what level of ghetto fabulous he is.
I was completely skeeved out listening to him say that he wanted to have a child with a Latina so that his child would have "nice hair". That was the level of what he cared about and it was obnoxious. He is an automatic MUTE when I'm watching a YT video of the show - his voice makes me annoyed.

My favorite Stern moments:
* when Chevy Chase called in to chastise Howard for upsetting his housekeeper
* the impromptu Nicholson interview that started with Howard waking Jack out of a deep sleep with his unexpected call
*and the infamous Jakob Dylan interview, during which Stuttering John pours beer down the back of Jakob's coat in retaliation for Jakob calling him a retard. Jackie's background noise of Bob Dylan impersonations made it even funnier.

That Jakob Dylan interview was maximum cringe and not in a good way.
It didn't help that Dylan came off as a really nice, sweet guy trying to play along but the Stern crew weren't just drunk off alcohol but their own arrogance.
I met Jakob not too long after he hit it big. He was out shopping with his kid and he was the total doting, unassuming father. Very polite and down to earth. There's a reason he's been married to the same woman for 30+ years.

Her mother finally spilled the beans that they were not broke/had no food in the hous like Wendy would say.
They both are low IQ manipulators constantly wanting money or benefits from the show. I can give Wendy a bit of a pass on because she's really challenged but HPE is just a downlow con man. I remember when it was found that he was charging limo companies for rides from NY to clubs in other states and not paying. That was tip of the iceberg for this Baby Huey freak. Ugh, he's nasty.

Flipping through Youtube, a video of today's show was onscreen -- slightly curious I clicked on it to see what the gang had to say about the Super Bowl. It was sad to see that the show and crew are still acting like frat boys when not one of them is under 40. Richard Christy lost a bet on the game and the punishment these stooges came up with is for Will Murray to shave his pubes and have Richard glue them to his upper lip/chin. They all got hyped up for this 'hilarious' spectacle - Howard, Robin, JD, Sal and even old queen Ralph Cirella called in to take part in the fun. My face did not crack a smile. This show is a lost cause.

I don't think either Robin or Howard will be back in the studio. Howard lives in Florida and Robin is outside of NY and may be too sick to travel.

"I don't get why JD is still home."
His job is to download/record interesting stuff on tv which no longer requires VCRs or whatever old ass equipment his office had at Sirius. Likewise no need for tapes to be converted to audio anymore.

JD was only married for like five minutes, right?
I actually haven't listened to the show in about three years, so anything I read is news to me.

If you check out Reddit even a lot of longtime Ronnie stans are getting tired of him having taken over the show. Especially since he is supposedly "retired."
by Anonymous | reply 170 | February 14, 2023 6:08 PM |
R169 He has several houses but is primarily in Florida. To my understanding.
R170 The Stern Reddit page is a cesspool of incel activity.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | February 14, 2023 6:37 PM |
I thought Howard lived in the city before Covid - he was chauffeured in to the Sirius studios. After Covid, he trotted off to his Hamptons place and was broadcasting from there. I recall reading that he bought a house in Florida, but not that he moved there full time. I thought he was staying in the NY area to be close to his parent(s).

R166 Robin’s health has been fragile for a longtime now. I really enjoyed her news coverage segments when I was in school in their KROC era, but haven’t followed nor listened to Stern since he joined Sirius Radio.

Saw a clip from yesterdays show on Youtube. The thumbnail showed Robin and some guy... it is Fred! I didn't recognize him at first because I haven't seen him in a while and he now has a mane of completely white hair. All of the other guys on the show have gray or partially gray hair - Richard Christie is all gray, and Sal and Gary have salt & pepper hair and beards.
After seeing that, I'm wondering if Howard has been lying all these years that his hair is naturally dark. I think he's vain enough to dye it.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | February 24, 2023 1:31 AM |
R178 Dye it? Its a wig or hair appliance and has been for years.

Got a rec for the Stern show Youtube channel today. He had Dr. Agus on, who Howard has referred to in the past as someone who he respects and takes medical advice from. The doctor says that if you want a longer life, don't retire. This could go either way in Howard's mind and impel him to stay on the air longer. On the flip side, Howard has told the story of his father retiring in his mid fifties and his dad lived to the ripe old age of 98, so he may take that fact into consideration.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | February 28, 2023 10:50 PM |
It's all Howard knows is doing the show. When Letterman retired you could tell he was just happy to not have to do anymore.Howard seems to still love doing the shoe.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | March 1, 2023 3:15 AM |
He works three times a week from his huge mansion, takes tons of vacation and makes hundreds of millions of dollars. Why on earth would he retire?
by Anonymous | reply 182 | March 1, 2023 9:32 AM |
Howard has many activities including painting, animal rescue, etc. He's said many times that he doesn't understand people who become bored.
That said the show is his identity. To retire is to acknowledge old age and a step closer to death. I imagine he'll carry on because why not? The studio's in his home. It's easy. It's not as if he wants to travel the world.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | March 1, 2023 10:43 AM |
Howard has been saying "this is my last year!" since back in the KROCK days 30+ years ago. How many times did he rag on Don Imus for being an old man on the radio? He would be appalled at himself if he knew he was still on the air in 2023.

Jon Hein was put in charge of all programming on Howard 101, so now his time is devoted only to that role.
I believe Memet is still with the show. I thought he was on within the past few weeks, but it could have been a repeat.

R193, the show jumped the shark when Artie left in 2009. Yes, he was extremely homophobic, especially when he got really drunk, but it was definitely entertaining when he was there.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | March 5, 2023 10:03 PM |
R196 I disagree. Those old shows with Artie did not age well. He was a louse and an embarrassment.

Gone downhill the moment Jackie left and when Stern suddenly decided Gilbert G. was no longer allowed on the show. Meanwhile, that fight between him and Amy Heckerling's German nanny was probably the funniest thing ever on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | March 6, 2023 3:09 PM |
The show definitely declined after Jackie.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | March 6, 2023 3:21 PM |
Pre Shark Jump moments:
The release of his movie. His divorce Jackie leaving.
I have to admit, Artie did add some longevity to the show, but eventually the drugs ruined him.
So the two ultimate shark jump moments were the decline and implosion of Artie, and his hiring Marci Turk to run day to day operations.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | March 6, 2023 4:14 PM |
R200, Marci Turk is unfairly blamed for the demise of the show. Howard hired her to implement changes, so any changes made were because Howard wanted it that way. This is like the owner of a house hiring a painter to color the walls in the living room red; and then when guests come over to visit, they blame the painter for the choice of color instead of the owner.

Artie looks like Harvey Fierstein.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | March 6, 2023 4:38 PM |

The nanny later ended her own life, I think (unrelated to Gilbert).

I hope that Artie is doing better these days. For a while, his name was popping up in the news because he was either caught buying drugs or speeding or fighting, so the silence may indicate that he's taking care of himself. I don't follow social media, so if he is on Instagram or Twitter or TikTok letting the world know how he's faring, I'm not aware. No idea if he still has a podcast or still doing standup, I just hope the guy is in a better place.

Anybody know what’s going on with Robin’s diet? About 15 years, not a day went by that either Robin or someone was else was talking about her being vegan and what she was eating or not eating, doing coffee enemas, etc. Robin herself would be lecturing other people about their eating habits and if they ate only this, that or the other, they would be healthier.
That all seems to be gone now as far as I know. I don’t have Sirius, so I only know and hear about the show from free clips posted online, but it looks like Robin is back to being a fat woman who eats anything and everything. The clip below with Robin talking about the milk she has in her coffee has led people to believe her vegan days are history.

I’ve listened casually over the years but in the past decade it’s become mostly unbearable. My favorite Stern interview of all time is when he had the Ramones on and it turned into a bitchfest. And then the follow up bitchfest between Marky and Joey.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | March 7, 2023 5:12 PM |
r215 The show declined without Jackie. He was the shows only extrovert and he was always up to nonsense. His life was an open book while Arties was just the opposite. The divorce and the loss of Jackie was the end of the open non-scripted show.

Jackie’s horrible stand up is what made the show so great. However, there’s a difference between between being a writer and being a stand up. Jackie was a writer, which fit Howard Stern perfectly. Artie was not, he struggled with writing, that’s why they had him tell stories, Benjie wrote. Gary also talked Howard into hiring Artie, so thank Baba Booey.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | March 7, 2023 9:52 PM |
This is just classic. The Jackie years were the best years. Definitely. When Jackie left, the satire went with him.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | March 7, 2023 9:58 PM |
The fact that Jackie's jokes were so bad was why he was so funny. The ridicule he got within that studio was what made the show great.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | March 7, 2023 10:03 PM |
If I had to decide whether Jackie or Artie was better, I couldn't. They both contributed massively to the show with their messy lives. Ragging on Jackie and Artie were so funny and kept me glued to my radio. The only downside for me is how long the show has milked the "Jackie left the show" story. It goes on to this day... enough already.

Who the hell is Samantha Fontana? I saw this show clip on Youtube and clicked on it because I recognized JD and Benjy but the woman was a mystery. When did she join the show and what is her role? This clip didn't really go into any detail of what she does. If she is a writer, this is such a change from the hardcore boys club the show has been for the last 40+ years. Does she play a character like that woman Rachel Butera used to do back in the past? Can anyone enlighten me, please.

Saw a post on the HS Reddit page that Artie is selling the apartment he had for 20 years and that his website was closed down. Someone who supposedly "knows something" says that his mother is not doing well and it's suspected he's sold it for the money to help take care of her and he won't be doing standup dates for a while. Hope that, other than that, he's doing okay.

There's something off with that Jon Blitt - I think he's somewhat sociopathic. And the way he speaks in that precise and almost over-enunciated fashion doesn't help either.
Someone on the (kind of vile) Howard Stern reddit page said he's loaded because his dad made a ton of money in internet porn, not sure if that's true.

Robin was not in Miami. Howard talks about her like she is still sick. However, not that long ago she went to Vietnam and Thailand, so who knows.
The staffers had to pay their own way to go to Miami, that's why only a handful went. Howard was too cheap to foot the bill for his people. It was nice having people in a studio, but don't count on it happening again soon. I doubt Howard will ever leave his basement.

Ronnie and Stephanie are listed on a wedding planning website called ZOLA and when you search for their names on the site, a dedicated page comes up but you need a password to actually view what they put on their registry. I saw on Reddit that people are trying to hack into their page there - I assume the trolls are curious to see what they want and I bet they're people who are curious to see what others (Howard? Robin? Gary?) are giving. Also this site is for handling things like getting a venue set up, picking vendors, etc. so I bet the hardcore fools want to hack in and create chaos and screw around with the info they find.
I despise Ronnie so much that I hope someone does get in and throw things off. I also don't like Stephanie... I have the suspicion that she's a golddigger.

Here's an example of the change: about ten years ago Madonna's on his show for the first time, and both Howard and Robin lobbed softball questions the whole time, asking as if they didn't know anything about her at all. "So, let's see, you're in Michigan, a few years out of high school, and you moved to New York to make it big. Am I right, was it New York? "
by Anonymous | reply 271 | June 23, 2023 1:15 AM |
The first, and one of the biggest "shark jump" moments was the making and release of Private Parts in 1996-97. Howard got a taste of the A list movie star lifestyle, and he loved it.
An earlier one was the loss of Billy West. The funniest person ever connected with the show.
The divorce from Alison was a huge moment. He was very lucky to have Artie Lange come in circa 2001, otherwise Jackie leaving would've been the final nail.
When Artie got too involved in drugs circa 2008-2009 the show took a major hit. Still listenable, but the show got worse and worse in that time period.
Artie leaving was the second to last nail. Marci Turk was the final nail in the coffin of entertainment on the Stern show.

Really old school fans may remember the name Al Rosenberg. He was a guy who was a background character from the WNBC days. I recall him doing voices on the phone and in studio - he did a female voice but I'm blanking on her name. He was on the staff even before Jackie joined the show.
There was a post on Twitter from his daughter that he passed away this week. RIP Al

One of the names of old Stern regulars that is missing from those groups of Wackpackers at R64 and R71 is... Uzo! Remember her? She was the African model who was in love with Howard and would call him God? She was on the show numerous times, always with a story about how she had rich men paying for her clothes, apartment, hair, taking her on trips, etc. She had a great body but a butter face, IMO.
She was entertaining and her stories were interesting. A while after she disappeared from the show there were stories in the NY Post that she was busted for being a prostitute and/or madam. I think she ended up in jail for that and came back for a follow-up interview. Wonder what she's doing these days.
ADDED: I just went to Reddit to see if there was anything about her. There was one update from 2016 that said that they "found" her and she is now into Nigerian prince scams. I believe it.

Two of the show regulars that I find just as repulsive as Ronnie are Lennie Dykstra and Debbie the Cum Lady. Listening to Lennie drone on about his drug and sexual conquests were stomach turning. He was pathetically trying to live off his prior fame as a NY Met and full of sordid stories about the women he was hooking up with.
On a similar sickening level is Debbie. Ugh. I don't even want to think about how disgusting this person is. She says she loves what she does, but I get the idea that she loves the attention she gets from the bottom feeders that use her as a dumpster.

He is back after taking the entire summer off. I caught a short clip on Youtube today and it made me hate everyone on the show. Howard loves exploiting the staff when they are fighting and bringing their dirty laundry on the air and it happened again. Someone got married during the hiatus and he brought a staffer on the air to trash some other other guy who gave a low amount as a wedding gift. The whole office was roasting and shaming this one guy for that and Howard was sitting there lapping it up. It can't make for good staff relations if they are allowed to gang up on one guy for his decision on what to spend.
Not a huge deal, but he will take anything these days to fill time during the show.

I don't get the Ronnie thing either. I do get an occasional chuckle hearing about his wild sex stories, but overall, he's not my favorite aspect of the show. And his refusal to say whether or not he voted for Trump (i.e., he did) just further turned me off.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | September 7, 2023 1:30 AM |
I have my own theories about the Ronnie focus: I got the impression that Howard has realized that Ronnie's sex stories are fodder for the drooling listeners so they can live vicariously through this 70+ year old man who has a young GF and still horny. Ronnie's a great foil - he can appeal to most dudes, particularly the ones who are married but dream of being in Ronnie's shoes. The other spectrum is to hype up the guys who may be single or have ED - Ronnie's stories can help them relive the good old days.
Also, Ronnie has such a hair trigger on most topics and Howard knows he can get set him off on any number of dumb topics, purely to let him ramble, argue and rant to fill time on the show.

The best thing I have ever seen is the old channel nine show. I watched a clip of today's show and Howard and Robin seem to still be broadcasting from home, but Gary and the other staff are back in the studio. Today's bit was several of the guys (JD, Gary, Memet and Mike) trying to climb the hallway walls like that murderer guy did to escape from prison this week.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | September 14, 2023 1:52 AM |
I went to check out the marksfriggin site today to see if anything interest happened on this weeks shows and got a bit of a shock. It's the end of an era for Stern fans... the guy who has been writing daily show recaps has decided to stop as of 9/2023. Marksfriggin website has been a constant in the lives of Stern fans for 25+ years, meticulously writing recaps of each show. I stopped listening about 5 years ago but would occasionally check the website just to see what was going on and it was kind of sad to see the update. It was nice to be able to read up on the show, the staff, the guests and wackpackers, since I had been with the show since the WNBC days.
From reading Mark's explanation, he has several reasons for stopping - he says one is money but the other is that there are too many things happening in the show that he doesn't like. He specifically mentioned that hearing Joh Blitt segments makes him want to turn off the radio. The other thing he says is that Stern's celebrity interviews are no longer interesting to him, and hard to get through - he doesn't ever want to spend two hours typing out the details of some inane interview.
He says he doesn't hate the show, but it aggravates him too much now. Instead of full recaps, he will just list the show segments, same as how they are posted on the Sirius site. This will just show the hourly breakdown of the show by topic. Farewell and thanks, Mark!
by Anonymous | reply 328 | October 4, 2023 6:47 PM |
This Mark guy has dedicated so many years of his life documenting the show, out of own pocket, and has finally decided to end it. Wow. The show must be hella bad these days to push him to this point. I'm curious... what does this Jon Blitt do for the show? I know Sal, Richard, Benjy, Fred and some other write for the show, but what about Blitt? Does he do some of those obnoxious characters (Alex Jones, Trump) hear every once in a while?

The show is back from last weeks vacation and listeners get to hear about the big celebration that took place while everyone was away - Ronnie's wedding in Las Vegas. There are clips on Youtube with various people recapping their trip to Vegas to be a guest in the big event. The thumbnail for the clip shows old Ronnie and his child bride. He looks like her dad.
I hope this can finally be the end of the Ronnie circus. Oh, and Howard didn't even go to the wedding.

Some Ronnie backstory for R338 - Ronnie started out as Howard's driver back in the 90's, then was given the job of security, supposedly after he stepped in when a crazed fan tried to attack Howard as he was exiting his limo. Ronnie got out of the car and into the studio, standing around to keep the wackpackers corralled, bring guests to the green room, etc. Ronnie then worked his "fame" into showing up at strip clubs as a celebrity/emcee, as a enticement to draw Stern fans into titty bars. Somehow, he got a huge following from low class blue color fans because he had a sleazy rapport with the strippers and dancers and got the reputation as a (creepy) ladies man. Ronnie ended up splitting from his longtime wife during the strip club years, and soon we were hearing that he was seen with a new young girlfriend, which only magnified him as a stud in peoples eyes. I think a lot of the listeners were living vicariously through Ronnie.
Ronnie stepped up to being the host of comedy shows, traveling around with a troupe of guys from the show (Sal, Richard, JD, Shuli) and rounded out with "real" comics. He was going across the US, into Canada and even going to some Caribbean islands. All during this, there was a running commentary about Ronnie and his young GF and their sex life. Ugh. Then the marriage talk started and Ronnie would get aggressively negative to discuss this. It made for hours of fodder for the show, unfortunately.
Ronnie finally proposed but also decided to retire and move to Nevada. You'd think that would be the end of him but it has not. Howard still has this fixation of putting him on the air to grunt and grumble about everything, but mostly his sex life. Howard loves it... it gives him hope that his shrinkydink will continue to work as he gets older.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | October 23, 2023 6:54 PM |
Ronnie's GF/wife is Stephanie, who is hard to read. Back in the day, she came on a few times and seemed pretty shy but not a doormat, even though Ronnie seemed to be half boyfriend/half Dad to her. I remember she was going to veterinary school or something, don't know who was paying for it, but she seems to have a brain and was preparing a career for herself. Don't know if she ever completed that schooling or got a job in the field.
Most people think she has some love for Ronnie but other minds wonder if she was pulled in by Ronnie's connection to the show... if she's a star f**ker.
I just remembered something... there was a terrible period where Ronnie was composing these really shitty poems and Howard had him read some on the air. Then it came out that Stephanie was showing up at some of Ronnie's strip club gigs and reading poems that SHE had written, which sounded as tacky as Ronnie's. You can interpret why she did this any way you like.

I respect and applaud Howard's evolution, but I do prefer the old days when he was wide open and crazy. I'm listening to some old Mark Harris and Richard Simmons interviews. That was some good stuff. It's also interesting that Howard is very pro gay marriage, even in the 90s when it wasn't cool to be pro gay marriage.

The Billy West disappearance is shrouded in mystery. It's very strange that they dissect every second of the time when Jackie Martling left the show and when Stuttering John left for the Tonight Show but there is hardly a peep about what happened with Billy.
The two rumors I've heard most are: 1) Billy also wanted more money and left when he didn't get it; 2) There was talk that Billy had his wife negotiating/pulling strings hardcore, saying Billy wasn't being treated right(?) and gave an ultimatum. The bosses didn't appreciate her tactics and let him go, although this doesn't sound right because if he had a contract, could he be let go so abruptly? Maybe Billy's wife tried to sue the company for some reason which got the higher-ups pissed off and ready to cut ties. They paid him off and an NDA was part of it -- could explain why the show is so close-mouthed about it.
I've seen a few interviews with Billy since them - never interested enough to watch them but maybe he talked about the parting. Go look for them.

Did a show with Billy West 2 years ago in Connecticut.
Sat by him at the luncheon table in the green room and he discussed the Stern show. No gossip. In fact, he was quite amiable about it telling one of the Ninja Turtles they were "a great group" to work with.
His gf/wife was way cool. She kept going on about how they were about to move to Santa Monica (or someplace else in SoCal, I can't remember exactly) and she could finally escape "Militia-gan." She called Michigan that several times. I tried convincing her MI needed her votes, not CA.

Billy West was only on 3 days a week. He wanted to go full time, and get more money. Tom said "no." So Billy went to Howard and told him "hey, I'm gonna go to California to do voice overs." And he never looked back.
The fact is, if Howard had wanted to have Billy on full time, Tom would've made it happen. It was 100% Howard's decision to deny it for him.

The News was the best segment they had. It seems clear that Robyn wasn't into it anymore, and perhaps even made NOT doing the News a condition of her return.
It is definitely awkward listening to Robyn try to piece together what is happening in the world today in order to fill at least some semblance of her traditional role. This is not a woman who stays current on world or U.S. affairs.

In later shows, they would use those filthy Robin song parodies as the lead-in song for Robin’s News. They were so uproariously funny and dirty at Robin’s expense, and you could tell that she wasn’t always feeling it. I still listen to compilations of them on YouTube and spend hours laughing.

Longtime listener here. I have nothing to back this up, but my theory is that Howard was way tired of the news segment long before Covid, but then used the change in format during Covid as an excuse to jettison the news. For the few years prior, it was obvious that he was barely listening ("Anything else, Robin?"), I also imagine that Howard wasn't a fan of having to keep an eye on the clock during other shenanigans to be sure there was time at the end for the news.

Howard was great from the early 80s through 2006 or so. The minute he hosted America’s Got Talent, it was all over. Howard and co. were brilliant with their un-PC humor. I think I read that Barbra has written a book, so I presume that she's making the rounds of media to push it, but I never in a million years expected to read that this could happen. I'm not a big BS fan but she seems kinda detached and arrogant IMO, to the point that hawking her bio on radio would be beneath her. I see her more as the Diane Sawyer or 60 Minutes type of interviewee.
Are they friends on the downlow or something and that's how this evolved?

Longtime show associate Ralph Cirella died unexpectedly during a medical procedure. Howard speaks about it - here's a clip.

That is crazy R385. Thanks for posting.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | December 6, 2023 5:56 PM |
Who would have thought Ray would have outlived Ralph?
by Anonymous | reply 387 | December 6, 2023 6:42 PM |
Here's a synopsis of the situation from a forum dedicated to Howard, where someone reported that Ralph apparently died of heart failure while being treated for a curable form of lymphoma. Howard says that Ralph "didn't take care of himself" and that he could have survived if he'd been healthy. Also, there was a comment that Ralph knew he needed to take care of his condition but didn't address it as quickly as he should.
I remember back in the late 90's and early 2000's Howard would occasionally chastise Ralph for being drunk or high in his presence and being disgusted with him. Did Ralph have some drug issues or did Howard mean he didn't take care of himself in the sense that he delayed medical treatment too long?
by Anonymous | reply 388 | December 7, 2023 1:25 AM |
Ralph refused to get health insurance for a long time. Also, he'd been feeling sick for months, and refused to see a doctor. That's what Howard meant, more than drugs or anything.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | December 7, 2023 5:59 PM |
I was feeling nostalgic after the Ralph situation last week and saw a 3 month free trial being offered for Sirius online - decided to enroll for the trial and listen to some old shows from the archive. Also because I used to love Medicated Pete and saw that he was a guest on the show in November, so I wanted to go back and see how that mistake of a human is faring. I doubt very much I will continue after the free trial... the show is too sad and tired now.

r390 omg Medicated Pete and his baby arm dick. Did you hear how he lets gay men suck it but he is not gay?

I really miss Artie. I wish he hadn’t self-destructed. Not only was he hilarious, but he responded to hilarity in others with lots of laughter, almost like a laugh track, but more sincere.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | December 19, 2023 2:28 PM |
I got the free trial and listened to some clips from last month -- the segment I heard was Howard ragging on Richard Christy for brushing his teeth in the kitchen/break room at work. I found this so tedious because they were recycling old fodder. This time it was "the staff tells on each other" - some guy tattles on his coworker and brings it to Howard to spin into something "interesting".
This time they used Richard Christy... even though everyone knows Richard is a subhuman hillbilly but they still use him to fill dead space, and him brushing his teeth in the break room sink is low-level stuff compared to his antics with his penis and Sal. Also, Richard is still playing the "I'm just a slow retard from Kansas" well into his 50's and being a father. He was playing it real dumb and goofy during this segment and it's so old. The third reason this was boring - Howard played along being outraged by Richard's actions, knowing that this guy is capable of even more disgusting moves. Then Howard started asking Richard to recount other disgusting things he did from years ago, like the time he sat in a homeless persons shit on a subway. Richard was giggling like a mongoloid while retelling this story for the hundredth time. Then I shut the radio off.... enough.

Does anyone know why they don’t talk to Jessica Hahn anymore?
by Anonymous | reply 394 | December 20, 2023 10:24 PM |
**RANDOM**
Bringing up Jessica Hahn reminded me that her name is used in a song by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. The song is called "It's a Miracle" and muses about how aliens observing earth would think that the human race is destroying itself.
This song came out in the 90's after the Jessica/Jim Baker affair. A few lines of the song use the scandal as an example of how news people use celebrities downfalls to sell papers, and how low humans can sink.
"Newshounds sniff the air as Jessica Hahn goes down - he latches onto that symbol of detachment. Attracted by the peeling away of feeling. The celebrity of the abused shell... the belle". (Jessica was called the Bible Belle for a while).
I always wondered if Jessica was flattered by this mention. Roger seemed to be on her side.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | December 21, 2023 2:11 AM |
I put the wrong song that mentioned Jessica - it's actually "Amused to Death".
by Anonymous | reply 396 | December 21, 2023 4:07 AM |
r394 Jessica retired from the public life when she married Stuntman Frank Lloyd. They divorced later but she has not been active at all in the public eye so probably why you never hear from her. You know who I miss? The singing psychic! What ever happened to her? oh yeah oh oh yeah...
by Anonymous | reply 397 | December 21, 2023 8:18 PM |
Jessica was "kept" by Married with Children creator Ron Levitt for years and years while he lived with his family. When he died, she called into Howard Stern devistated crying.
Around that time she had a feud with KC, who it sounded like hung out, banged her assistant, and did drugs with them. It seems like she had a pretty severe opiate/pill problem, in those years when they were sp easy to get.
I assume she's better now since theyre harder to get. Or she's doing "dirty 30s" which are fentynal pills from Mexico.

I love this washed up era of Howard. It'll never be the peak gut busting comedy that it used to be - but it's a nice light listen. I feel like he's my sort of cool grandpa. It really sucks when they do the fake ass prank calls though.

R393 I had no idea he was the drummer for Death for years and I always hated him on the show - but I have to give him respect for that work. I doubt there are any death metal fans on DL but the Sound Of Perseverance is an absolutely legendary album in that world and his performance is exceptional.

Someone on Youtube had put together all of the clips where Howard talked about and/or made fun of Kathie Lee Gifford. I heard these live back in the day, and hearing them again now is just as funny. It is hilarious how mean he was to this woman. This is prime entertainment for anyone who was/is a fan of late 90's-early 2000's Howard.
These KLG clips span years... starting when she and Regis ruled morning TV, where Howard confesses that he thought KLG was hot. Then it starts to go downhill when she starts using her platform to spew religious statements and being judgmental of girls like Britney and Christina Aguilera being bad influences - that's when Howie started bashing her. He finds any tiny thing to rag on her - that she was born a Jew but then became Christian, that she pushing her golden child Cody down our throats, her gooey music albums with terrible singing, her K-Mart clothes made by children in sweatshops, her vapidness, that she sided with the Kennedy family when one was accused of child rape, etc.
The icing on this cake was when Frank Gifford was caught having an affair and Howard milks that for years of torture toward KLG. Yes, Howard could be a mean son of bitch towards KLG, but it was still funny.

If anyone here visited the website "Stern Universe", it is currently suspended. This site was one I frequented a lot in the last 10 years. They had an archive of full shows going back to the 90's. The owner also made great clip shows, where they would search out all of the audio of random Stern folks and put them on one file. I had hours of fun listening to clip shows of people like Hank the Dwarf, Crackhead Bob, Fred, Miss Howard Stern, and almost all the other staff, callers and wackpackers.
This site was heavily visited back in the day but it had significant drop-off of visitors the last couple years and maybe the owner just gave up? Not sure if this is a temp or permanent suspension, but if it is gone, I will be sad.

Someone posted on another Stern forum that Crazy Cabbie died this week. Hopefully this is not an April Fool's joke, as it was dropped 4/01 via a video on Youtube. The poster is someone named Cane Peterson and I remember that Cabbie was co-host on "The Cane Show" back on WXRK when Howard was still on terrestrial radio.
I enjoyed Cabbie - he was abrasive and over the top, but he also gave hours of entertainment: his tax snafu and jail time, meeting his birth mother, his boxing match with Stuttering John, his drug issues, his military stories, saying he's had sex with men and being unapologetic about it, his mental hospital escapades, his rocky love life w/his girlfriend, etc.
It was sad that he had issues with his heath in his later years, which he attributed to being in the Gulf War and being in contact with various chemical weapons that were used towards the enemy but the US crews got doused with also. I heard a few interviews with him done in the last 8-10 years and Cabbie was wheelchair bound with a muscle wasting disease. That was horrible to hear. I feel so bad for him.

I just saw a clip from the show that was posted on Youtube and it has Robin with a completely bald head. I know she was wearing wigs for years but I presumed that maybe her hair didn't come back the same after her cancer treatments and she went to wearing wigs. The other option was that her cancer came back and she's doing another round of chemo that made her go bald.
She has decided to un-wig herself and go for this interesting new look. She doesn't look half bad... except for those overpowering glasses.

Saw some Howard news on Youtube today - Don Buchwald, Howard's longtime manager/agent died. Howard has lost 3 people close to him very recently - his dad, Ralph and now Don.
The show has taken the whole summer off, so this will be old news by the time they return in September.

I had the TV on in the background and when I look up at the screen, I see Ronnie Mund talking to me. Ronnie the Limo Driver is doing ads for the law firm Morgan & Morgan! It took me a few seconds to comprehend what I was seeing (is that Ronnie?!?) so I didn't pay attention to his words, but he sits in a chair telling the world how great M&M is. He's presented as onscreen as "Ronnie Mund, radio personality".
I assume that either Ronnie has a friend in the company or M&M is pretty desperate to scrape this low for a spokesperson.

So, I stopped daily listening when he moved to satellite and caught things here and there when they were posted to YT after the move. Dumb question but who else besides Howard, Fred, and Ophelia are still in the show from that time? Did Turk make him completely clean house?

I haven't listened in about a year but I can say that Gary, Sal, Richard and JD are still around. Not too sure about any of the back-office staff like Jason, etc. The video staff, like Doug Goodstein and Mike Gange are gone, since the crew no longer operates from the Sirius studio. Ronnie retired and moved to Nevada but still calls in too much. Ralph Cirella died earlier this year.

Howard and crew are back after taking the summer off. I checked the marksfriggin site to see the rundown of the show after the long hiatus. In "Wanna Feel Old" news, it says that one of Jon Hein's daughter is soon to be married. I remember him talking about one's bat mitzvah, so the years have flown by. The other thing on the rundown is that the guy who used to be Robin's boat captain/houseman died... his name was Captain Dennis.
There were various other RIP to people who died during the summer... one was Psych. Anyone know who that was?
