I read here that bloody Margot frigging Robbie was "overdue " for an oscar, and I felt like puking. It made me physically sick. Not that an oscar means anything anymore, but is there no bottom to that well of mediocrity ?, Now, who really IS overdue for an Oscar ? can be a competitive oscar or a lifetime achievement
Sigourney should have won for "Aliens" in 86.
Glenn for "Dangerous Liaisons" in 88.
Isabelle Huppert for "Elle" in 2016.
Sally Hawkins for "The Shape Of Water" in 2017.

At this point dear Glenn is like a brown banana.
Almost literally.

Glenn should have Oscars.
Margot Robbie is energetic and fun and should be happy if she's invited to attend an Oscar party.

R15, Shelley Duvall as Millie Lammoreaux in 3 Women is my all-time favorite screen performance, and she was also wonderful in The Shining. Would fully support an Honorary Award for her.
Isabelle Adjani, Isabelle Huppert, Judy Davis, Sally Hawkins, Sigourney Weaver, Barbara Hershey, Tom Wilkinson, and Ralph Fiennes are overdue to me in that they should have won at least one of their competitive races and have strong bodies of work overall.
Most egregious cases of an actor going completely unrewarded by the Academy during their lifetime? Gloria Swanson, whose impact on the medium of film at the very least merited an Honorary award, and Albert Finney, brilliant in many films, particularly in the curiously overlooked Shoot the Moon with Diane Keaton.
Most overdue for a second win? Sissy Spacek. Best filmography of her generation, versatile, inventive, and reliably imbues her performances with intriguing subtleties.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 18, 2022 11:14 PM |

and Alan Bates ? the fact that he only had 1 nom and no win is a crying shame for the academy

by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 20, 2022 12:33 PM |
I think the Oscars need to give an “in hindsight” award to honor a film or talent that was overlooked. They can call it a legacy award.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 20, 2022 1:50 PM |
Definitely Michelle Pfeiffer. No more Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 20, 2022 1:54 PM |
Michelle is too mannered in speech to play any recognizable human beings.
And Glenn and sigourney probably won’t win because of the #overcorrection.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 21, 2022 1:07 AM |
Definitely Albert Finney of the deceased. But that’s because he never showed up.
Even his nominations - aren’t reflective of the many many other times he was deserving of one.

R44 for what Julia, cackling hysterically in Bali for 90 minutes?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 21, 2022 4:34 AM |
I actually thought jroberrs was surprisingly subdued in ticket to paradise. In fact, everyone was. It could have used some more ribald humor and a bigger comedic set piece or two. I wonder if the whole thing was just a cleverly arranged paid vacation to Bali for CAA talent because that script was meh.

One of them will end up with an Oscar. They are just waiting for the right Oscar bait screenplay. I could see Michelle Williams going the ugly makeup and prosthetics route to play Marjorie Taylor Greene in an Oscar bait film.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 12, 2022 3:10 PM |
Since an Oscar is awarded for a single performance, one can’t really be “overdue” for an Oscar. Either you’re the best that year or you aren’t. If an actor can’t get the role and the timing of said role just right, they’ll get a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, hopefully before they appear in the Dead People Reel.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 12, 2022 3:14 PM |
Having just watched "Can You Ever Forgive Me" for the first time I would say Melissa McCarthy, while not overdue, should have already been a winner on that performance alone. How many great roles will she get that don't obviously rely on comedy or slapstick?

I totally agree with Albert Finley.
And I would add, Donald Sutherland, Frank Langella, Imelda Staunton, and Connie Nielsen (but sadly for her talent alone more than the parts she’s gotten, and ignore the superhero shit she does to put food on the table)

by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 12, 2022 4:13 PM |
R54 it really depends on the nominee and their breadth of work. Voters take into account how many times they’ve been snubbed, and if you’ve been nominated multiple times throughout decades of decent work it only bolsters your chances (Al Pacino, Geraldine Page, Paul Newman, Jeff Bridges come to mind off the top of my head, but obviously there’s more). Close is the most glaring example. It boggles the mind Sutherland hasn’t been nominated once, but they gave him and honorary one. If Finney was still alive they’d give an honorary one. Amy Adams should probably have one at this point after six nominations, so it won’t take more for her to win, even if her next nomination if for just ok work.

Tom Wilkinson. Never a less than stellar performance.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 13, 2022 9:33 AM |
Tom Wilkinson should have won for "In The Bedroom" in 2001, but it was Denzel's "year"
As I usually say in these threads, not rewarding a great actor for their best achievements has a knock on effect in years to come. If Pacino had won for any of his legendary performances in the 70s, Denzel Washington would have won over him for Malcolm X in 1992, leaving Tom Wilkinson to claim his rightful recognition in 2001.
