We all know the lore surrounding major figures like Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood, but what are some lesser-known strange Hollywood deaths? Jeanette Loff comes to my mind. She apparently ingested ammonia while on the beach, which gave her chemical burns in her esophagus and ultimately killed her. It was never clear whether or not she had intentionally ingested it, and her family believed she had been inadvertently dosed with it (i.e. murdered). Killing yourself with ammonia does seem like a very peculiar (and horrifically painful) way to get the job done.
My mom was always convinced Raul Julia and Jim Henson had AIDS. This board is the only other place I ever saw those suspicions. So who tf knows.

Thelma Todd, who was (possibly) murdered. She was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in the garage of actress Jewel Carmen's house under weird circumstances. Jewel Carmen herself was an interesting figure, having been at the center of a scandal when she was 15 years old--she was allegedly shacked up with a 35-year-old, who was prosecuted on statutory rape charges.

The Wikipedia article says she died at 9233 Doheny Road, which seems to be a 3-story art deco building next to the Sierra Towers.

R7 yes, but it also states in the article that authorities thought she’d taken it on the beach (not sure how or why they made such a determination). She died three days later, ostensibly in the hospital. Lots of foggy details there.

Hollywoodland was underappreciated.
Non-thespian Ben Affleck gave a very good performance in that film. It convinced me to mostly stop calling him non-thespian Ben Affleck.

Gia Scala and Inger Stevens appear to have been friends and neighbors and died on the same day a couple of years apart.

Corinne Griffith - her or her sister… a most bizarre case.
“Griffith testified that she was actually not Corinne Griffith. She instead claimed that she was the Corinne's younger sister, who although twenty years younger had taken Corinne's place when she died in 1924.”

Henson’s death was too sudden to be AIDS

Girl who was found killed in a trash bin and her handbag found later in a park, with a handwritten note saying "sorry Kirk, I have to see Dr whatever for that abortion now that mother is away". Of course Kirk Douglas denied knowing her --even though they were working on the same movie,-- and was immediately released with an apology. Can't remember her name

R6 - The George Reeves story is hardly lesser known. If they make a movie about it that's pretty big.

Cristie Schoen Codd
It wasn't IN Hollywood, but this stunt actress and her husband had a rough time of it:
Died March 12, 2015, age 38; she and her husband (a key grip in films) were killed in North Carolina, dismembered, and their remains burned in a wood stove by a handyman they had befriended
She was a chef best known for appearing as a contestant on the TV show "Food Network Star" and in "Terminator: Genisys," and in "Ender's Game," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Geostorm."
She and her husband had been married for less than a year, and she was 5 months pregnant when she was killed. Their killer pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty, and was sentenced to a minimum of 59 years in prison
