What is your favorite Kim Wilde single?

I’m sure we have done this before, but I must know your current opinions on this VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC.

My top 2 are WATER ON GLASS and CAMBODIA.

All of them. She’s the best!

by Anonymousreply 5December 3, 2022 6:32 AM

You Came, Four Letter Word, Never Trust A Stranger, and Cambodia.

Love her voice and her look.

by Anonymousreply 6December 3, 2022 6:39 AM

Damn, is she still putting out albums? I remember buying her CDs when I was 10

Her Close album is great pop. Agree that You Came is terrific.

Her cover of You Keep Me Hanging On is also great.

Amazing cover - You Keep Me Hangin' On

Great to have Kim aficionados in the house.

What are your thoughts on The Second Time? Video was a bit flashier than what she'd done to date, comes off a bit Samantha Fox though.

And as if the 80s weren't great enough, this featured on Knight Rider.

What’s a Kim Wilde?

by Anonymousreply 17December 3, 2022 7:43 AM

Her videos from the first two albums were simple but memorable.

Love the veiled Kim in View from a Bridge.

Non-American celebrities age way more gracefully and in general are more tasteful and talented. But they don’t treat their talent like a business. Kim was doing some gardening stuff in the 2000s wasn’t she?

by Anonymousreply 22December 3, 2022 9:12 PM

R22 Yes and I have her gardening book on my coffee table.

by Anonymousreply 23December 3, 2022 9:18 PM

She released a new box set last year, which includes 2 DVDs with all of her music videos. Absolutely stunning.

by Anonymousreply 24December 3, 2022 10:13 PM

It's here

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2022 10:21 PM

Well, I’m pleasantly surprised that my failed attempt at a poll thread has gotten some traction!

I know I created this to talk about her singles, but I was looking at some of her first albums, and I’d forgotten about the track, “You’ll Never Be So Wrong” off her her first album. I loved that song.

by Anonymousreply 26December 3, 2022 10:55 PM

R26 The 2020 reissue even has the 7” Version of Tuning in Tuning On.

by Anonymousreply 27December 3, 2022 10:57 PM

I’m not sure how familiar Americans are with her. I’m in my early 40s and the only songs of hers I ever remember hearing on the radio in the US are Kids in America and You Keep Me Hangin On. I only know her work because I’m such a huge fan.

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2022 11:00 PM

Kids in America was a major component of the soundtrack of my childhood. I still remember staying up late in the hope the video would air on Night Flight or whatever pre-MTV show was airing music videos on broadcast television.

Another vote for "The Second Time".

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2022 11:47 PM

This is such a funny video. Kim is performing in Poland in 1988 and somehow 2 Polish queens are dancing with her on stage and a couple of others are bringing her flowers and kissing her. At the end she says 'you're very affectionate people, aren't you?'

by Anonymousreply 31December 4, 2022 12:13 AM

R31 How odd. The communists allowed her to perform in 1988?

by Anonymousreply 32December 4, 2022 1:31 AM

Worth repeating: she should have had Madonna's career..

by Anonymousreply 33December 4, 2022 5:23 AM

Her stunning beauty knows no bounds, the Communists must have really adored her. But what astonishes me more was there were so many homos on stage, having fun without a care in the world.

Amazing performance from Kim and the crowd.

by Anonymousreply 34December 4, 2022 8:04 AM

Kim is definitely someone who has a life-work balance.

Apparently she was the most successful British female singer of the '80s.

But once she knew radio was not going to play her anymore, she took a break, did gardening stuff but she now tours as a nostalgia act but still puts out some good music. She doesn't chase trends like -- cough -- Madonna -- cough. She even put out a Christmas album a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 35December 4, 2022 8:11 AM

OP, are you posting from 1984 ?

by Anonymousreply 36December 4, 2022 8:23 AM

I know it's sappy and cheesy, but it was the first song I've heard from her in the 90s.

R36 is 22 and thinks Taylor Swift is a real artist and not just attention seeking Pennsylvania trash.

Never Trust A Stranger

by Anonymousreply 41December 6, 2022 8:39 PM

Who?

You're making these "talents" up, aren't you, you sly pups?

by Anonymousreply 42December 6, 2022 8:46 PM

R39 I rest my case American celebrities are lame.

by Anonymousreply 43December 6, 2022 9:43 PM

Yeah, Cambodia was a massive hit in France, right up there in the 80s with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, Kim Carnes' Bette Davis Eyes or Irene Cara's What a Feeling.

I wonder if the song's synthesizers wasn't actually a perfect fit for long wave radio listening as at the time mainstream radio in France was LW-based only and I always thought the song came out really nice on LW when LW audio quality is normally utter garbage.

by Anonymousreply 44December 7, 2022 9:59 AM

Her duet with Nena (99 Luftballons) was a BIG hit in Europe, but it looks like the official video isn't even on YouTube anymore

Saw her earlier in the year at Mighty Hoopla Festival in London. For me Cambodia is her best but You Came gets me dancing and the crowd loved it the best even more so than Kids

by Anonymousreply 46December 8, 2022 12:30 AM

I think she should record a new song called “Chequers” in honor of this thread.

by Anonymousreply 47December 9, 2022 11:04 AM

She supported Jacko on his European tour. Would love to have been a fly on the wall during any conversations between the girl next door and Jacko during his Bubbles the Chimp phase.

by Anonymousreply 48December 9, 2022 6:27 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 49December 9, 2022 6:30 PM

^^^^ Jacko= Michael Jackson, he was once part of the Jackson 5 before enjoying considerable success as a solo act.

by Anonymousreply 50December 9, 2022 6:34 PM

Another energetic live performance from Kimmie!
