1997's "Intensity" - Based on the Novel by Dean Koontz
John C. McGinley IS the psychopath
Molly Parker IS the heroine in a 90s cranberry sweater
Piper Laurie IS the useless bystander
I caught this movie on TV when I was 10 years old, and it was pretty freaky. McGinley plays drastically against type as a cold-blooded spree killer who slaughters entire families and keeps a catatonic teenager in his basement. Parker plays a woman caught up in his murder spree who hides away in his motor home and waits for the right moment to strike and rescue the girl in the basement. It's got some good scares, even if it's a cheesy, Canadian-made TV miniseries. The two leads are especially strong, and underrated as usual.
Has anyone here seen this? Or read the Koontz novel?

Ha!
You’ve obviously never had to work with him.

This looks interesting. I’m going to recommend it to my elderly father.

I read the book (which is odd, bc I've never read any of his other books, but I think the reviews made me give it a chance).and it scared the hell out of me. Never even knew there was a movie.

Funny, I am watching this right now. I bought the DVD some time ago and decided to give it a viewing today since Thanksgiving week is upon us (the whole film takes place over Thanksgiving/the Thanksgiving weekend). Like OP, I also remember seeing reruns of this flick on TV (maybe on the USA Network?) when I was in middle school in the early 2000s, and really liking it at the time. Watching it again years later, I think it still more or less holds up. Great acting from John C. McGinley and Molly Parker, and there are some fantastically-executed sequences throughout. The first half in particular is very suspenseful. Piper Laurie's random appearance as the frumpy passerby is golden (and utterly thankless).
It was infamously (and shamelessly) ripped off by French director Alexandre Aja in "High Tension", which plays almost beat-by-beat exactly like the first part of "Intensity", except with a bunch of brutal gore and a psychological dyke drama twist ending.
