I hope she has a good end-of-life plan.

ALS killing her softly is no way to go. Poor Roberta.

by Anonymousreply 1November 14, 2022 8:30 PM

I'm really sad for her. I say it again, if God is real someone needs to put him on a performance improvement plan.

by Anonymousreply 2November 14, 2022 8:31 PM

She already had the range of a whisper. I was just listening to “Killing Me Softly”. I’ve always treasured her.

by Anonymousreply 3November 14, 2022 8:33 PM

This is sad. Her music is so moving and beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 4November 14, 2022 8:34 PM

Don’t worry. I’m sure Bette Midler will swoop in and save her. Like she did Frederick Forrest.

by Anonymousreply 5November 14, 2022 9:08 PM

It's very sad, but at 85 years old it's not like she had another twenty years of life and voice to live.

by Anonymousreply 6November 14, 2022 9:49 PM

That is a great shame. It's a terrible fate.

by Anonymousreply 7November 14, 2022 9:50 PM

I’ve always loved her singing . This is terrible news

by Anonymousreply 8November 14, 2022 9:58 PM

How sad. ALS is the worst disease.

by Anonymousreply 11November 14, 2022 10:19 PM

Killnmeusoflywithisong.

by Anonymousreply 12November 14, 2022 10:33 PM

Yes, R11. ALS and Huntington's. Or locked-in syndrome.

Anything that destroys the body yet leaves the brain/awareness intact, is literally a fate worse than death.

by Anonymousreply 13November 14, 2022 10:43 PM

Oh this is so sad ☹️

by Anonymousreply 14November 14, 2022 10:48 PM

I very sorry to hear this. I've always loved her voice. Sending peace and comfort to her.

by Anonymousreply 15November 14, 2022 10:55 PM

Fuck.

Her voice has brought me some needed serenity over the years. I wish I could return some of that to her now.

by Anonymousreply 16November 14, 2022 11:01 PM

Jonathan Penner (Survivor) chronicled his wife Stacy’s battle with ALS. The disease is horrific. I feel awful for Roberta. What an amazing talent she is.

I haven't seen her on the UWS for a long time but she was a fixture (lived in the Dakota). When people would recognize her she was always friendly. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 18November 14, 2022 11:25 PM

Jay Leno’s burned up face made the evening news, this DID NOT,

by Anonymousreply 19November 15, 2022 12:26 AM

My favorite by Roberta. God bless her.

I've always loved Robert Flack, such soothing music.

She’s my neighbor, one block over. Haven’t seen her in forever, but she was always lovely when I did.

Is ALS now striking older people? I thought if you made it to 60 or so you were out of the woods.

by Anonymousreply 23November 15, 2022 12:54 AM

Roberta guested on Guiding Light in the early 90’s. Michael Zaslow was on there at the time and he died from als. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 24November 15, 2022 12:54 AM

Oh no, R23! I have a friend in his late 50s who was diagnosed with ALS a year ago, and is as expected fading fast. Definitely one of those "When bad things happen to good people" situations.

by Anonymousreply 25November 15, 2022 12:56 AM

Probably a weird choice, but this is where I first heard of her and it's my favorite.

She can't talk or sing?

So her days on anti-LGBT shows like The 700 Club & TBN are over?

Good!!!

by Anonymousreply 27November 15, 2022 1:49 AM

Poor woman, I hope she doesn’t suffer too much.

^hey not everyone on 700Club is evil, Kristin Chenowith used to go on there.

by Anonymousreply 28November 15, 2022 4:34 AM

Remember too, Roberta sang the theme song to the movie “Making Love,” way way back in ‘82.

by Anonymousreply 29November 15, 2022 6:16 PM

Why is this site going full on lipstickalley?

by Anonymousreply 30November 15, 2022 6:25 PM

Did someone forget to pay the bills over there?

by Anonymousreply 31November 15, 2022 6:26 PM

She lived next door to John & Yoko in the Dakota, and she became very close with Yoko and Sean after John was killed.

She covered Yoko's "Goodbye Sadness" in the 80's. I remember this song getting played quite a bit on KUTE 102 in L.A.

She's also got a new documentary coming out about her life and career, called simply "Roberta".

I love the way those first two albums sound....... the hushed slow build..... I was 18 when I first heard this one circa 1970.... I don't I've ever gotten over this song.

She had a strange career...two HUGE Grammy-winning songs, one other fairly big song (Feel Like Makin' Love) and a few popular duets. Then, she kind of disappeared.

by Anonymousreply 34November 18, 2022 1:52 AM

She's was one of the best singers. Vocals so sweet, so feminine.

by Anonymousreply 35November 18, 2022 3:33 AM

Horrible, horrible disease. She's lucky (if you can call it that) that she only got it so late in life. Still, it must be terrifying to slowly lose all control over your body. I hope she goes peacefully.

by Anonymousreply 36November 18, 2022 3:45 AM

Awful. ALS is a truly evil disease. Just horrific, mentally and physically. Worse than MS. At least with MS, there are treatment options and oftentimes periods of remission, and it's not a death sentence in the same way that ALS is.

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2022 3:49 AM

R28 Kristen C. finally got it right by speaking out on their bigotry & she canceled them long before it was a popular thing for celebs to do.

I can't think of any other "star" who went on there condemning AIDS rings (where gay men try to give others the disease LOL) & Water tower AIDS" (where one televangelist said that he "saw" gay activists try to put contaminated blood in town water supplies). Roberta Flack tied her name & staff power to shows that contained this type of crap on a monthly if not weekly basis. Fuck her. This is a big case of karma. She didn't give a damn about how they demonized AIDS/LGBT s but we're supposed to care about her ALS disease? Not me you old bigot.

by Anonymousreply 38November 18, 2022 4:06 AM

R38, she really said that or were these nonsense spouted on the 700 clubs?

by Anonymousreply 39November 19, 2022 2:01 AM

Is Flack a lezzie?

by Anonymousreply 40November 19, 2022 2:01 AM

R38 I agree with everyone except the stupid "This is a big case of karma." There are also some great people who get horrid diseases.

by Anonymousreply 41November 19, 2022 2:03 AM

Awe, that's sad. I loved her theme song from The Hogan Family.

by Anonymousreply 42November 19, 2022 3:35 AM

Sad, but she is 85 years young. No one is spared in the end.

by Anonymousreply 43November 19, 2022 4:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 47November 22, 2022 1:20 AM

Don't think so, R47. See R40.

by Anonymousreply 48November 22, 2022 5:58 PM

"kiwwin me ssssssly wihhihsng."

by Anonymousreply 49November 22, 2022 6:23 PM

That's a damn shame. I've always thought she should be considered among the greatest R&B singers of all time. I mean, yes, she's respected but no one ever really talks or writes about her these days. I feel this way about Gladys Knight as well.

by Anonymousreply 50November 23, 2022 3:05 AM

Wow, and thanks to whomever posted that horrifying business about the 700 Club. Obviously, I think much less of her now.
