I would not say she ever built up goodwill with the public. She was never widely "liked," in the sense of people having warm feelings toward her personally. Her public image was brazen, obnoxious, combative, aloof.

A lot of people enjoyed her music, and maybe they respected her for her business smarts and her ability to reinvent herself and stay relevant. She kept it up longer than most pop stars manage.

But the 2010s were a time of declining popularity for her, and the '20s are going to be more of the same. In a few years, there are going to be full-fledged adults who weren't alive when Confessions on a Dance Floor was released. Think about how remote her True Blue/Like a Prayer heyday will seem to them.

Looking back, I think that was the beginning of the end (or downward slide if you will). I don’t think she knew how to handle it and the seeds of real desperation were planted from that point on. Someone else mentioned the severe blow to the head at the Brit awards in 2015 on stage and I’m convinced that was the other major turning point. I remember feeling so terrible for her - knowing how incredible she was live and how many crazy physical stunts she has done on tour that always went off without a hitch - it was really the worst thing that could have happened to her, it reinforced the idea in the publics mind that she was too old and past her sell by date, when in reality she was (at least up until MDNA) such a strong physical and agile live performer. A shame. I give her a lot of credit for getting up and finishing the song like a trooper … but I truly wonder if that head injury was worse than we all realized.

Wasted my time & money seeing this Madonna “spectacle”. She was rude and mean to members in the audience. Ranted about politics and starting a revolution. She didn’t come on stage until 11:10pm. We kept hoping she would belt out all of her old classics....didn’t happen. We left the show “early” at 1:00am...very disappointed and mentally exhausted

It's sad that she acts unhinged like Britney on social media. I've said it many times before, but she desperately needs new management and people around her to help finesse her image and advise on her overall direction. The blow to the head was just a fall on the back. It was during a live performance of Living For Love. She walked up some stairs with a cape that was supposed to easily come off and get yanked away by her twin Asian dancer girls behind her.
