I'm watching Salem's Lot

The original with David Soul. It's really dated looking.

Don't give up on us, baby.

I thought David Soul was quite the hunk. What happened to his career?

by Anonymousreply 2October 31, 2022 8:03 PM

It is dated, now. When it first came, though it was really entertaining and enjoyable, especially if you had read the book, which was a pretty good read. Those were the days before Netflix and the internet. When TV shows were an event. Yes I'm old (58).

I think it was just about the scariest made for tv series ever filmed...

When this happened when I was a little kid, I lost my shit:

Same age R3. I remember Salem's Lot was quite the television event at the time. I remember gathering around with the family and waiting impatiently for the next weekly episode.

by Anonymousreply 6October 31, 2022 9:20 PM

All TV shows from that era look dated.

Why are you presenting this as news, OP?

by Anonymousreply 7October 31, 2022 9:33 PM

R5, it really was an event, me, my Dad and, Brothers were totally into it,and really looked forward to the 2nd part. Having read the book, really brought it to life. I remember my Dad ordering Pizza Hut to enjoy whi!e watching the second night of it. Those were the days.

It was never great compared to what we expected from theatrical movie, but it was exceptional for a television movie. It was also directed by Tobe Hooper, so his fans had expectations.

Just like the book, it was grim: so many people died. But the build up took a while.

And R5 yes this was everyone’s favorite scene! Recently, I watched it with a friend who had never seen it before and she was freaked out.

IMHO, Barlow's vampire visage remains one of the scariest to grace the silver screen.

I only saw part of the TV series, but that book was the scariest of all King’s novels, IMO.
