I know in my friend group, a lot of culturally insensitive and crass comments got made that, as statements on their own were awful, but it was all in the spirit of having a laugh at the expense of your good friend. And the fact is, that type of humor as a means of camaraderie exists in all sorts of social groups, While her statements are vile as a stand alone statement, I do believe it could have been one of those times where she was saying it, but in a way to mock the very idea purported, if that makes sense. And maybe she was saying that tongue in cheek to her gay friend, likely as a means to tease him.
