I want to be underwhelmed—Winter is Coming

There’s a lot of underwhelming going on.

Where were we?

For the past few days I've been happily indulging in some decadent cookies. The word "decadent" is actually in the name. Delicious treat for only 120 calories.

Upon further inspection of the nutritional label, they are actually 120 calories per HALF a cookie.

Rat bastards and their duplicitous labels.

by Anonymousreply 2October 31, 2022 4:11 PM

Rat bastards!

by Anonymousreply 3October 31, 2022 4:12 PM

Well, the last thread lived beyond 600. Don’t look if you’re easily whelmed.

by Anonymousreply 4November 1, 2022 12:32 AM

Oh look, Firefox just auto-updated again. I think it's down to once a day now.

by Anonymousreply 5November 1, 2022 2:41 AM

I’m scratching my taint

by Anonymousreply 6November 1, 2022 10:48 PM

Nothing to show your gut like a neon colored Halloween costume. My eyes! I need a diet

Then you smelled your fingers...

by Anonymousreply 8November 1, 2022 10:52 PM

Today, Spectrum Cable TV began their "Sounds of the Season" Christmas music.

I love Christmas music but it occurred to me that if I don't pace myself, I'll be sick of it by Thanksgiving.

by Anonymousreply 9November 1, 2022 10:55 PM

I’m blasting Xmas music tonight. I’m also mental.

by Anonymousreply 10November 1, 2022 11:12 PM

I made bread pudding today and making lemon sauce for it.

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2022 12:06 AM

I just had a V8

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2022 12:28 AM

It's finally raining in California so I pulled my car out of the garage and parked it in the driveway.

I don't care about the teams playing in the World Series but I tuned in anyway and Xfinity is having technical difficulties.

My hands are itchy.

by Anonymousreply 14November 2, 2022 1:22 AM

Eating gummy bears while drinking strong hot coffee made in a vintage percolator.

by Anonymousreply 16November 2, 2022 2:07 AM

I ate some crackers, but I don't want to turn this into a Weight Watchers meeting.

by Anonymousreply 17November 2, 2022 2:12 AM

I was triggered by the fatso at R17.

Well, I PRETENDED to be triggered. Like everybody else does.

But really, she's fat.

by Anonymousreply 18November 2, 2022 2:16 AM

^ the seams of your caftan looked stretched to their limit too.

by Anonymousreply 19November 2, 2022 2:20 AM

^ But I remind everyone that's this is probably just Winter Weight - so as not to whelm.

by Anonymousreply 20November 2, 2022 2:21 AM

I'm thinking about getting the Christmas tree and ornaments out of the attic this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 21November 2, 2022 2:26 AM

I'm smoking a bowl and listening to various Halloween-themed episodes of radio's Jack Benny, Burns and Allen, etc. No, I'm not a hundred years old, I'm 43. Same thing, I suppose. It whelms.

While I listen and occasionally chuckle, I am making a Costco list. It's semi-whelming but I'm not going until Monday.

I'd like a cup of licorice tea, but that whelms.

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2022 3:23 AM

At the end of my day I set my mattress to reading position and use my robe as a snuggie as I read Datalounge on my tablet. Otherwise my arms get cold. I know you're not supposed to look at screens in bed but it's my favorite way to decompress.

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2022 3:31 AM

What's on your Costco list, R22? I could use some ideas.

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2022 3:32 AM

I roasted a frozen chicken today because it the weather was cooler and I didn't mind having the oven on for a couple of hours.

by Anonymousreply 25November 2, 2022 3:59 AM

it's gonna be, like, 70 here until Sunday so winter isn't coming yet.

by Anonymousreply 26November 2, 2022 4:31 AM

It's 74 degrees in Great Lakes country, nowhere near Winter temps. The only proof of Autumn are the colorful trees and piles of leaves. We're still enjoying Summer. The Earth must be off its axis and yet I'm happily underwhelmed at the temperature change.

by Anonymousreply 29November 2, 2022 8:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 30November 2, 2022 8:39 AM

I just ate four kalamata olives.

I left the jar on the counter just in case I want four more.

by Anonymousreply 31November 2, 2022 3:20 PM

I finally cracked the code on how to cook beans (using dried beans). I just made some pinto beans and they're really good. I do an overnight soak *plus* the other method of bringing pot to a boil, turning the heat off and letting it sit for an hour. (Then stove back on and simmer.)

Black beans, I need to try again. I have a hard time with those.

White beans, like navy beans, are easy to get them soft. That's why when you buy canned white beans, they're all blown-out, i.e., too soft.

by Anonymousreply 32November 3, 2022 1:25 AM

How long did you suck your mom’s tits?

by Anonymousreply 33November 3, 2022 1:29 AM

My dog hates my singing. He doesn't howl, he licks my face to get me to shut up.

by Anonymousreply 34November 3, 2022 2:09 AM

My cats love for me to sing to them, r34. I am not very good at it, though.

by Anonymousreply 35November 3, 2022 5:19 AM

At 43, I have realized that the voice I use to speak to cats is just the Squiggy/David Lander voice from Laverne and Shirley. No wonder cats look at me like I am special needs.

My trips to the bathroom are going better and the color has returned to normal. That black hue for three days had me wondering because colon cancer runs in the family but then I remembered the squid ink in the pasta Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 38November 3, 2022 3:37 PM

I'm going with the pork chops for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 42November 3, 2022 8:33 PM

I went to Kroger’s equivalent of Aldi - Ruler Foods today to check out the race.

by Anonymousreply 43November 3, 2022 8:54 PM

Let's not be "Let's be the 'I want to be underwhelmed--Winter Is Coming" thread thread.

Because underwhelming the underwhelmed takes the opposite of effort.

Too tarsome.

by Anonymousreply 44November 3, 2022 9:19 PM

Another bump on my face.

Getting older is like knowing what a collapsing field pumpkin experiences before a hard freeze. What's next? Mice?

by Anonymousreply 45November 3, 2022 9:24 PM

R32, I think that’s how my Mom made black-eyed peas. Overnight soak, boil, then let them sit, and then simmer.

by Anonymousreply 46November 3, 2022 11:25 PM

R32 I believe those are the instructions on the back of the bag of dried beans. You could have saved a lot of guesswork by just reading the instructions.

by Anonymousreply 47November 3, 2022 11:44 PM

R32, I am not one to quibble but beads are cooked to be tender, not "soft."

by Anonymousreply 48November 4, 2022 1:44 AM

If I make one medical and one dental appointment by next Wednesday, I will buy strappy brown boots.

by Anonymousreply 49November 4, 2022 2:10 AM

R48, I like refried beads!

R45, Yes, the wee beasties!

R37, Thanks a lot. My fat self did not need this info!

R35, Good enough for cats (not "Cats")!

Me? I forgot about their being in the oven so burnt to charcoal my French Fries (Ore-Ida, if you must know. And yes, I have real potatoes in the house. Your point?).

by Anonymousreply 52November 4, 2022 3:03 AM

I refuse to whelm myself by describing my shoes until I’ve made these appointments. It shouldn’t be hard. It’s telephone stuff, right? I’ll grow a pair and get a pair of boots. It’s been ten years since my last dental appointment…. No big deal.

by Anonymousreply 53November 4, 2022 4:06 AM

Watching NYPD Blue. I can't decide if Jimmy Smits is handsome or if his face is too bony.

by Anonymousreply 54November 4, 2022 5:49 AM

I have a Mississippi Pot Roast in the crockpot. I only use half the packet of ranch dressing and half the packet of au jus gravy and find that works just fine and less of a sodium bomb.

by Anonymousreply 55November 4, 2022 12:21 PM

Why not just leave out both, use salt free beef or vegetable broth and then salt to taste?

Then add some sour cream just before serving.

by Anonymousreply 56November 4, 2022 12:31 PM
Why not just leave out both, use salt free beef or vegetable broth and then salt to taste?

Because it then it wouldn't be "Mississippi" Pot Roast!

Chuck Roast

Packet Ranch Dressing (I use half)

Packet Au Jus Gravy (I use half)

Pepperoncinis to taste (I use six)

Stick of Butter (I use half)

Some pepperoncini juice to taste (I use a tablespoon, maybe two).

Crockpot, 8 hours, done.

by Anonymousreply 57November 4, 2022 3:42 PM
It’s been ten years since my last dental appointment…. No big deal.

That is a big deal. Ten years is a long time to go without seeing a dentist.

by Anonymousreply 58November 4, 2022 4:59 PM

R58 you should ask how many teeth he has

by Anonymousreply 59November 4, 2022 5:37 PM

I'm thinking about listening to Atom Heart Mother again. Saves me having to think about anything for half an hour or so.

by Anonymousreply 60November 4, 2022 5:44 PM

Today I bought two pairs of winter boots. One ankle boot and one more of a slip on shoe but thick and with good grips. Also bought wool socks. Lying down now.

by Anonymousreply 61November 4, 2022 9:02 PM

I cant find bright green kitchen tongs anywhere. What is wrong with this world?

The NYT crossword today included the clue “Predatory relatives of coral”. They expected us to be able to spell Amenones . . . Anemones . . . AMENHOTEP . . Whatever.

by Anonymousreply 64November 4, 2022 10:40 PM

I’m having Bibimbap for dinner.

by Anonymousreply 65November 4, 2022 10:41 PM

It’s so fucking windy! Gusts up to 50 mph overnight into tomorrow. I hope a big gust of wind doesn’t blow up my ass!

by Anonymousreply 66November 4, 2022 10:53 PM

I bought a dozen eggs and I'm gonna try the Kenji Lopez-Alt method of making easy-to-peel boiled eggs.

You put the eggs into a pot / pan of already-boiling water (just about 1 inch of water).

He said that this works better than putting the eggs into cold water and then bringing everything (eggs and water) up to a boil at the same time.

I'll report back on how this works.

I'm trying to lose a couple of pounds and I need to have little snacks on hand.

by Anonymousreply 67November 5, 2022 1:47 AM

Be careful around that boiling water, r67!

by Anonymousreply 69November 5, 2022 12:05 PM

Last night, I got fucked by a daddy in a detached garage/workshop during a wind and rain storm.

Today, I'm taking it easy because even a good fucking is whelming. I'm watching Dallas and Falcon Crest today.

I might cook breakfast but scrambling eggs seems whelming.

by Anonymousreply 70November 5, 2022 3:48 PM

Kenji Lopez-Alt's egg-boiling method worked (eggs into water only after water starts to boil). Peeling eggs was easier. I cooked the eggs for 8 minutes, which is a little bit soft. If I had gone longer, they probably would have been even easier to peel.

I bought 3 Envy apples and those were an expensive disappointment. One was mealy and I threw it out. The other 2 were just OK.

by Anonymousreply 71November 5, 2022 8:55 PM

I put my ballot in the dropbox today. This is a red state, so it is all but worthless, but I still feel better voting.

by Anonymousreply 72November 5, 2022 10:14 PM

I finally used the power washer I bought some time ago. Discovered the bricks on my front stoop are red, not grey, not that it matters. Satisfying, but now my back hurts, so I ate an edible.

by Anonymousreply 73November 5, 2022 10:41 PM

R73, can you use that power washer on cars?

by Anonymousreply 74November 5, 2022 11:14 PM

Next wash day, I am swapping my summer cotton percale sheets for my winter cotton flannel sheets.

The nippy mornings were whelming me.

by Anonymousreply 75November 5, 2022 11:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 81November 6, 2022 2:04 AM

The hose on my Waterpik broke tonight. I considered buying a replacement hose, but reviews said the water pressure was weaker. I found the same model on eBay for about 50 bucks. The other one lasted about five years.

by Anonymousreply 85November 6, 2022 3:15 AM

Yes, R83. Sorry, I forgot about the other stuff they make. The new old stock model I bought was cheaper than the newer ones on Amazon.

I’ve been watching old episodes of Endeavour. Last night was an episode set in a hospital where a nurse was killing patients with a dose of insulin. Then I watched The Good Nurse on Netflix and it turned out to be about a nurse killing patients with a dose of insulin.

I ordered a Beard King Beard Bib Apron Cape from Amazon. It will be here Nov. 10th.

This handy dandy invention was featured on Shark Tank. I don't watch Shark Tank but this anorexic dermatologist on Youtube who shops for skincare products at drugstores, Target, Walmart and dollar stores came across a knock off at Dollar Tree and it piqued my interest. My Dollar Tree didn't have it so I went ahead and splurged on the original from Beard King. I ordered it in black. There was a "deluxe" version for $20 but I went with the "lite" for $15.00.

I never remember to use the extra bucks on my CVS receipts. Today I went to CVS to buy mouthwash and a few other incidentals. At the cashier counter I, for once, remembered my rewards! However, upon reading the fine print, I see that the total purchase had to be more than $12 for the discount to apply. Sigh. Suddenly the darling cashier told me that my total was more than twelve dollars. (Everything is so expensive now due to inflation.) She took the receipt and entered it. It worked!

Then she frowned. There was a problem. Turns out one of my items was on sale and that nullifies the coupon. She was sad and apologized. I was a little disappointed since it would have meant I was getting one item totally free but then FREE can be whelming.

by Anonymousreply 103November 6, 2022 7:26 PM

R103 what were your other incidentals?

by Anonymousreply 104November 6, 2022 7:55 PM

I'm not sure how tolerant I should be of the ammonia smell in the "International Fish Market" here. It's strong but I don't know if it's a cultural thing. You can smell it on the street and when people pass out at the bus stop they drag them into the place because it works like smelling salts. I just don't want to walk the extra two blocks to the next one because of the opium smell, because I had an issue in Thailand for a while, you know. No offense.

by Anonymousreply 105November 6, 2022 9:23 PM

Just exactly what part of that post was supposed to be underwhelming r105?

by Anonymousreply 106November 6, 2022 9:55 PM

I just took Carafate for my horrible ulcers

by Anonymousreply 107November 6, 2022 10:12 PM

R103 Thanks for asking! The other incidentals were a small bag of cheddar cheese popcorn, dental floss, and a bottle of Castle Rock Pinot Noir. How could I not figure that the ten dollar bottle of wine wouldn't put me over $12 you ask, and rightly so. This is where it gets truly underwhelming. I assumed the alcohol didn't count in my total. But it did! On the other hand, it was that very alcohol that was on sale that cancelled the discount!

Henceforward I have stopped clicking on any links to Twitter while surfing DL.

Elon's mercurial insanity was whelming me.

by Anonymousreply 141November 8, 2022 8:59 AM

I just now found on my back deck a bag of delivered Wegmans groceries, including deli turkey.......

From September 28th.

Pee-YEW!!

by Anonymousreply 142November 8, 2022 12:14 PM

Pardon my nosiness, but do you not go out on your back deck regularly? Or were you away?

by Anonymousreply 143November 8, 2022 1:34 PM

R142 does not look anything like an "Abner" to me Gladys.

by Anonymousreply 144November 8, 2022 1:42 PM

R143, No, I don't. And it's fabulous, if I do say so. But I prefer being inside my house, WCIS.

by Anonymousreply 145November 8, 2022 2:12 PM

LOL, R142. You never wondered where your delivery was? Slightly related, a couple of weeks ago, I ordered Popeye's from Door Dash. My condo building has a main front door; I also have an attached garage. Usually, my DD is left at the front door; delivery person rings the buzzer to let me know my delivery has been made. The Popeye's Dasher left my food in front of my garage. At least he left me a pic cuz I would never have thought to look there.

My underwhelming comment - I'm working in my home office and Coz is sleeping on the couch. He like to be with me.

by Anonymousreply 146November 8, 2022 2:28 PM

My Thermapen food thermometer died. It led a good life, 7 years. If I recall correctly I paid $80 for it and well worth it.

In a moment of frugality, I replaced it with a $15 Thermopro. Normally $20 but I got it during an Amazon "flash" sale. Seems fine but definitely won't last 7 years. Larger, brighter read out and little magnets on the back to attach it to the fridge. I won't be attaching it to fridge as I don't like clutter of any sort. Everything must be in drawers or cabinets NOT on counters or dangling from appliances.

I went to vote and to pick up some consolation carbs for tonight and I saw a guy wearing a “Let’s Go Brandon” t-shirt at the supermarket. It’s going to be a long night.

Lhude sing Goddamm,

Raineth drop and staineth slop,

And how the wind doth ramm!

Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,

An ague hath my ham.

Freezeth river, turneth liver,

Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,

So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,

Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

I received an email from my supermarket rewards program wishing me a happy birthday and gifting me a choice of free bar cake or half gallon of their store brand ice cream. It was a nice surprise since my birthday isn't in November. I just use random birthdates when I sign up for rewards cards. I opted for the cake, carrot to be specific. Downside is there will be no freebies during my actual birth month.

by Anonymousreply 160November 9, 2022 12:54 PM

R142, how did you miss that the groceries you ordered on Sept. 28 never arrived?!

by Anonymousreply 161November 9, 2022 12:58 PM

R160 - I have a longtime friend, a gullible shopper, whose computer was DESTROYED by a multitude of viruses that were introduced there by her addiction to online grocery store coupons. When I investigated, to help her see if we could get it fixed, I think there were over 300 such viruses in her machine. I told her to stop falling for the "savings" they promised. I later learned that "coupons" are a well-known source of such digital infections, just like porn. Just pointing that out...

by Anonymousreply 181November 10, 2022 10:51 PM

R181 I buy real lime juice in the plastic lime container in the produce section at Dierbergs.

Then I add 2-3 Kirkland signature green tea bags to 1 cup of boiling water. Steep 2 minutes then pour over tall tumbler of fresh, filtered ice cubes. Then a squeeze of real lime (or lemon) juice. I add one squirt of Torani pure made sweetener made from stevia and monk fruit. I enjoy this everyday with my lunch.

I replaced the battery on my iPhone 6S Plus. I had been using the original battery up until now. I took it to a small shop. I had read the reviews on Yelp and the shop owner was replying to a lot of the reviews. That made me a little nervous. Anyway, my phone is now charging up. We'll see if this is an improvement. I was nervous about having it done, due to it not being Apple (small shop) and due to all that information on my phone.

Ha! Not to be a one-upper, but I did 3 loads of laundry as well.

by Anonymousreply 186November 11, 2022 1:13 AM

Wouldn't you have to have done four loads of laundry to be a one-upper, R186?

by Anonymousreply 187November 11, 2022 1:19 AM

True, R187, but I'm thinking about the other stuff I also got done today.

by Anonymousreply 188November 11, 2022 1:25 AM

I'm writing a novel set in 1982-84 in Portland, Oregon, where I live. The protagonist is a Datalounger type who lives for his TV shows and to get into his head, I like to re-create iconic prime time TV schedules by watching certain shows on certain nights.

Tonight, I'm doing November 10, 1983:

CBS: Magnum PI (I can't stand the Rick character)

NBC: Gimme a Break (the mayor sexually harasses Nell!) and Cheers (Carla wants to fuck a man with a heart condition)

CBS again: Knots Landing (Gary married Abby right after divorcing and then shagging Valene the day before)

by Anonymousreply 190November 11, 2022 3:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 192November 11, 2022 7:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 201November 12, 2022 1:09 AM

You should be jealous; I have nicely sliced vegetables for my chili bean soup because I went on a vegetable slaughter spree last night while making fajitas.

I tried a Jones orange soda today - it hit orange with perhaps a little cream. Not as sharp as Nehi or Fanta.

by Anonymousreply 202November 12, 2022 1:23 AM

I had a bowl of Black Bean soup with some sour cream on top...very hearty and satisfying.

My interest in Wordle is waning, R217, but I still feel compelled to do it every morning.

by Anonymousreply 220November 13, 2022 8:37 AM

I had not seen Wordle mentioned anywhere on the internet since mid-October until this morning. I think it's safe to say it's GONE. Good.

by Anonymousreply 221November 13, 2022 1:26 PM

I spent yesterday getting a new computer started. It took so long, I didn't get around to doing the Times Spelling Bee.

by Anonymousreply 222November 13, 2022 1:30 PM

I found Wordle slightly more interesting this morning because I solved it in two guesses.

by Anonymousreply 223November 13, 2022 6:16 PM

R218 For simple syrup pls don't boil the water and sugar. Simply heat it on med so sugar is dissolved and mixture thickens slightly. When it starts to bubble at the edges of the pot, remove from heat.

The produce section of the market was raked over today.

by Anonymousreply 226November 14, 2022 2:10 AM

My lunch companion cancelled because he was sick with a cold , so I made Shake 'n Bake pork chops and finished my re-watch of season 2 of Stranger Things. I lament the excellent Sichuan I was looking forward to.

by Anonymousreply 227November 14, 2022 2:52 AM

I can’t watch Family Feud anymore. I watched it so much during the lockdown that now I think of it as lockdown TV.

by Anonymousreply 228November 14, 2022 3:06 AM

R227, you should have still gone to get some Sichuan food, at least some takeout. I recently ate in a sushi restaurant by myself. I was getting my phone battery replaced (I posted about it, above) and waited / ate in the sushi restaurant. One waitress was rude, the other waitress was really sweet and helpful, even though it was "just me."

by Anonymousreply 229November 14, 2022 3:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 235November 14, 2022 1:41 PM

My lawn service is comprised of a guy in his early 50s and his two sons.

Today they brought along an elderly man who is helping with blowing and raking the leaves. Must be grandpa, there's a family resemblance.

I hope grandpa is doing this of his own free will and this isn't some kind of elder abuse I'm witnessing.

by Anonymousreply 245November 16, 2022 12:09 AM

That’s the way people would say it here in Pennsylvania, where people often don’t use “to be” with want or need. I don’t like it, but it’s really common (not the specific expression “I want underwhelmed” obviously but in sentences like “the cat wants fed” or “the sidewalk needs shoveled”).

Sorry about that, R273. I hope my re-filling two water jugs at the supermarket today doesn't have a similar effect.

R282 I also dislike my handsoap. It's supposed to foam and smell like lemon but it doesn't do either. I'm underwhelmed.

by Anonymousreply 284November 18, 2022 3:55 AM

Best handsoap I have ever used.

Not particularly foamy, but wonderful scent and rinses off cleanly.

My baby apartment spiderplants need more sun than this dark shithole receives. I may take them to work and settle for pothos.

Pothos alays gave me a skeevy vibe - like I should have a bong and burn marks on the wall.

R259 reminded me of it.

If zucchini ever write, produce, direct, and star in a crime stopper programme, I will be listed as a serial zucchini killer who has left a slime trail of death throughout these united states.

And, because I’m a man of my times, I’d sit for the interview, “Yeah, they looked good. I bought them from a slaver and put them in my fridge to die. I toss them out all the time.”

I was a toddler in the heyday of Dallas and Falcon Crest, but I have a fondness for watching each as a double feature on Friday nights. They really are perfect Friday night shows.

Dallas subjected guest star Christopher Atkins to the indignity of being fixed up with Charlene Tilton.

They really do write Melissa on FC like she's an undiagnosed bipolar.

It is 33 degrees in Portland. I have a trial subscription to the online archive of the newspaper for my nearby hometown (which is sinister and horror movie-like in an entirely different way than Portland is). My best friend (a woman, who I refuse to call my hag) and I are writing a graphic novel involving retail-themed horror and cults and witchcraft in a one-stop shopping center (think the PNW Fred Meyer chain) across multiple timelines. Thus, I've spent my weekend going through scores upon scores of old ads and newspaper coverage of chain expansion and on-site tragedies and weirdness, as well as locating grainy photos of salesfloors in the 1970s and 80s. We worked there as teens in the 90s.

Working there was whelming. Researching the place for horror purposes: pleasantly underwhelming.

As someone who worked for a Koch grocery chain owner, I can add the the following visual:

You’re 15, not stoned, walking to the deli. There’s a stretched curly phone cord that disappears into the bathroom. You hear yelling and then a flush. Mr. Koch comes out in a spume of decayed earth - ice cream bar in one hand and phone in the other.

Happy Sunday!

I just bought one of these Lindt caramel bars. Self checkouts were closed and I went to a regular cashier. There were a bunch of candy bars, as usual, in the cashier area. These Lindt bars were 4 for $5. I bought just one to figure out if I like it. I'll report back, later.

by Anonymousreply 317November 20, 2022 6:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 327November 21, 2022 8:30 AM

Re stomach gurgling, give it a few days. I doubt you have anything to worry about, at least as far as stomach cancer is concerned. That's not typically how it first manifests (loss of appetite, queasiness, lethargy), based on my father's extensive experience with the subject.

by Anonymousreply 328November 21, 2022 1:26 PM

Gurgler, are you eating anything that’s sugar-free? My gut gurgled to the point it felt like an avalanche once when I was eating candy that had sorbitol in in.

I’m probably going to buy a new laptop today. My old one caught fire and died, and I’ve been caught in a nightmare between Dell and FedEx, the latter of which may be the most incompetent company I’ve ever dealt with.

I’m supposed to send the laptop back to Dell, but the computer died before I could remove all my accounts and passwords (in a Word document).

There’s no porn, but it’s been handled so incompetently so far, I think I’ll just buy something new.

by Anonymousreply 355November 23, 2022 2:28 PM

Fedex is highly incompetent in my area also. On the plus side, I've met neighbors I otherwise would not have met due to them delivering my packages they received and vice versa.

I was going to cancel a credit card that I don’t use and I found I had 98000 points which can be used at Apple for a 25% discount so I ordered an Apple Watch Ultra and Air Pods Pro for free!

I still use an iPhone X but I read that next year’s iPhone is going to be the one to get, so I passed on a free iPhone 14 Pro Max.

R355, yikes, I wouldn't want to send back a computer that still had all of my passwords & other stuff on it. Too bad about FedEx. UPS in my area is more common. I think Apple uses FedEx.

I'm back from my walk to WalMart. The store wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be. Was looking for regular, run of the mill apple cider vinegar. The shelf was wiped clean except for the large, glass bottle. I didn't buy it because it would have been to heavy to carry home with my other things.

Did you know they sell a pre-made ACV cleanse with cayenne pepper in it? Almost bought it by mistake.

I'm now in the 8th (and final) season, which is after both Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher had left the series.

I was delighted (but not whelmed) to discover that Mary Tyler Moore did a 3-episode story, where she played a local newscaster named Christine St. George - who is a complete narcissistic bitch.

And MTM manages to play her as a really funny and likeable bitch.

I just watched an early episode of "That Girl", a/k/a "That Cunt"...

Ann is meeting Donald's parents for the first time and entertaining them for Thanksgiving dinner, along with her parents and Donald, in her small-ish apartment (it's actually quite spacious but the decor is dingy and sort of Lebanese-ish)..

Ann is cooking both a turkey with sage stuffing (in her own kitchen) and a goose with oyster stuffing, in her neighbors kitchen - her kitchen is too small for both. But of course, she mixes up the stuffing - so she has turkey with oyster stuffing and goose with sage - oy vey...

Samantha Stephen's mother-in-law plays Donald's mother too

by Anonymousreply 391November 24, 2022 12:43 PM

^ I've noticed that Marlo appears to have gone to the Lucille Ball School of Comedy

She mugs into the camera; she whines; she makes faces; she runs around frantically;

She doesn't shout her lines to the back of the theatre - but she rips off Lucy in every other way - even saying, "Oh Donald!" and "Oh Daddy!" in an impersonation of Lucy's "Oh Ricky!"

It seems Marlo's comedy training consisted of watching a bunch of ILL reruns with a note pad.

by Anonymousreply 392November 24, 2022 12:49 PM

^AND was also Cloris Leachman's actual mother-in-law.

by Anonymousreply 393November 24, 2022 12:50 PM

P.S.

Wouldn't you have loved to see Mabel and Cloris interacting after a few bottles of wine at an actual family holiday dinner.

by Anonymousreply 394November 24, 2022 12:52 PM

I'm speculating that Marlo Thomas cast Ted Bessell to be her romantic partner on "That Girl", in the hope that his big nose would make her own honker look smaller.

by Anonymousreply 395November 24, 2022 12:57 PM

Did you ever notice how Marlo had a different female neighbor/sidekick on nearly every episode?

But I found learning the remote, setting up my streaming accounts...just TOO whelming.

Why must it be so complicated?

by Anonymousreply 406November 24, 2022 1:59 PM

There is an entire population of rich weirdly-shaped clothing consigners.

If your arms and shoulders are tiny, but your midsection stretches the fabric on your sweaters, you should not advertise the fact online. I don’t care if it is hermes - you had it tailored for a freak.

R406 sometimes setting up those accounts takes a full reboot, depending what they are. That's what I had to do to get Disney+ to work. Prime amd Netflix were no problem and came preloaded on the tv.

by Anonymousreply 419November 25, 2022 3:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 455November 26, 2022 4:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 456November 26, 2022 4:20 PM

I just love USPS Informed Delivery.

An informative email shows me what is in my mailbox each day and I can then make an informed decision as to whether or not I want to get dressed and trudge all the way down to the end of the driveway and fetch said mail.

I decided today's miscellaneous items were not worth the hike.

Also, I've accomplished zilch today. Unless you count checking my email to see what is in my mailbox.

by Anonymousreply 457November 26, 2022 5:33 PM

I have Informed Delivery for my P.O. Box, so it's even more handy (since the Post Office is a couple of miles away).

by Anonymousreply 458November 26, 2022 5:40 PM

I’m usually pretty generous when it comes to such matters, R457, but I don’t think that counts.

This isn't as good as the one where Gold played Kate Jackson's daughter and Kate accused her of being a Satanist and stole her child away.

I sometimes wish I were a better soup-maker.

I've made good soups and stews in my time - generally based on simple recipes - not too whelming.

Lately I find it easier to buy soups from a local grocery that offers a surprisingly good selection of quality soups.

Lemon Orzo Chicken soup with Kale was on tonight's menu, delicious!

by Anonymousreply 500November 29, 2022 2:28 AM

Those store bought soups while delicious can be very high in sodium, which is also why they are so tasty.

by Anonymousreply 501November 29, 2022 4:57 AM

I made Shepherd's Pie for dinner last night.

I used beef instead of lamb so technically it's Cottage Pie.

I was a little heavy handed with the wine which I'll cut down on next time. Overall, very good and I'll be having the leftovers for lunch or dinner today, possibly both.

by Anonymousreply 502November 29, 2022 8:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 509November 30, 2022 1:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 554December 4, 2022 11:33 PM
r551 One med. rib of celery chopped fine =/= a half cup.

Exactly.

I chopped up 3 celery ribs, which weren’t that big after being trimmed. I like the crunch.

(Sorry, r554)

I took a nap earlier. Woke up thinking it was tomorrow morning. Checked my phone - I'd been asleep for about twenty minutes.

by Anonymousreply 556December 5, 2022 12:19 AM

Don't forget the olives in the potato salad! 😎

by Anonymousreply 557December 5, 2022 1:40 AM

I’m so tired, I’m going to sleep in prime time.

by Anonymousreply 558December 5, 2022 2:34 AM

I turned the heat down.

#MeToo

by Anonymousreply 560December 5, 2022 6:03 AM

I'm sick of being asked about my cookie preferences on every website.

by Anonymousreply 561December 5, 2022 2:56 PM

It's only 11:10 am and I'm already looking forward to lunch which is a large salad and two open faced mock tuna sandwiches.

by Anonymousreply 562December 5, 2022 3:11 PM

Mock them right back.

by Anonymousreply 563December 5, 2022 3:13 PM

I shopped, without success, for a brown pen today.

by Anonymousreply 564December 5, 2022 4:55 PM

Have you tried dipping your finger in mud - it's quite effective.

by Anonymousreply 565December 5, 2022 4:59 PM

I tested negative for COVID. I don’t have symptoms, the test expires tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 566December 5, 2022 5:53 PM

Here are some suggestions, r561. It's from the NYT, so I sent it via private window.

R566 supposedly all those expiration dates were extended by several months.

by Anonymousreply 569December 5, 2022 6:19 PM

I have a cold.

by Anonymousreply 570December 5, 2022 6:44 PM

The back of my knee keeps cracking. This is new.

by Anonymousreply 571December 5, 2022 6:58 PM
I have a cold.

My cleaning woman has a cold too.

by Anonymousreply 572December 5, 2022 9:37 PM

R571 WTF? How does the back of your knee crack? I'm worried for you.

by Anonymousreply 573December 5, 2022 10:15 PM

I went shopping today and still have no food.

by Anonymousreply 574December 5, 2022 10:46 PM

Why start a new thread when there are still 24 posts left? Kind of whelming tbh.

by Anonymousreply 576December 5, 2022 11:10 PM

My partner’s dad died today. He made it to 100 years old.

by Anonymousreply 577December 5, 2022 11:16 PM

R577 Was he in his right mind and physically ok? My mother made it to 97 and was strong and sharp to the end.

by Anonymousreply 578December 5, 2022 11:21 PM

R573 you should see the xray. I recently got a knee injection so I think that's what is causing the weird cracks. They don't hurt.

by Anonymousreply 579December 6, 2022 12:34 AM

R578, Mentally he was sharp until about a year ago. Physically, it’s been about ten years of decline.

by Anonymousreply 580December 6, 2022 12:36 AM

Watching Network on TCM. Faye Dunaway is so anorexic.

by Anonymousreply 581December 6, 2022 12:45 AM

My grapes are a little on the soft side.

by Anonymousreply 582December 6, 2022 1:49 AM

That sounds like a euphemism, R582.

by Anonymousreply 583December 6, 2022 2:23 AM

Lunch tomorrow is two pieces of Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon which I will bake in the oven with olive oil then squeeze lemon juice on it afterwards and dip the pieces in Champagne Dill Mustard- yum 😋

Part two of my lunch is a bowl of trail mix to which I'll add freeze dried bananas, blueberries and mangos. It's a somewhat decadent lunch, however I take a 4.2 mile walk in the morning and a 2 mile walk on the treadmill afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 584December 6, 2022 2:43 AM

Decadent?

At first I thought "anorexic," then I realized "exercise bulimic."

by Anonymousreply 585December 6, 2022 2:45 AM

R584, do you also use a stairclimber?

by Anonymousreply 586December 6, 2022 2:51 AM

R585- Since my weight peaked at 274 3/8 lbs in May 2021 I've lost a bit over 48 pounds.

by Anonymousreply 587December 6, 2022 2:52 AM

R586- I used one when I had a membership at my local Y but I don't have one at home. I should by one. I liked those. I have a stationary bicycle , a treadmill and a set of weights at home. My weights are the old style. I have to lie or lay ( not sure which word is appropriate) down and the bench flat and push the weight off the hooks- not the safer more modern attached kind.

Wait a minute. I never used a stairclimber at the Y it was an elliptical - which I liked.

by Anonymousreply 588December 6, 2022 2:56 AM

Ok R575–now you’re “it”. I’ve been starting the new threads for a while, and I’m glad to pass the baton. It’s your duty now, until someone else take the job.

by Anonymousreply 589December 6, 2022 5:26 AM

There was once a movie about you, R582.

We have to [italic]move. [/italic]Oh god.

by Anonymousreply 591December 6, 2022 7:51 AM

Is there a compelling reason why we shouldn't complete a thread that needs only eight more responses not to be abandoned like a red-headed stepchild?

by Anonymousreply 592December 6, 2022 7:54 AM

It stops 6 people from all making a new thread at once. Which would whelm.

by Anonymousreply 593December 6, 2022 8:07 AM
It stops 6 people from all making a new thread at once. Which would whelm.

Most of the posters on the underwhelmed threads don't seem to have the initiative or the energy to create new threads.

by Anonymousreply 594December 6, 2022 8:50 AM

Always happy to finish a thread out with banality.

by Anonymousreply 595December 6, 2022 1:57 PM

The roads are bad. I am not driving today.

by Anonymousreply 596December 6, 2022 1:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 597December 6, 2022 4:02 PM

Salad for breakfast, with some potato chips.

by Anonymousreply 598December 6, 2022 4:04 PM

I mailed a postcard this morning.

by Anonymousreply 599December 6, 2022 4:33 PM

I need a few things from the store.
