Many raisin bran cereals no longer roll their raisins in cane sugar like they used to
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 27, 2022 5:13 AM |
They're for people who like grapes, only really really old.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 27, 2022 5:17 AM |
I like them in oatmeal (cereal and cookies), cinnamon raisin bread and bagels but don’t eat them on their own.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 27, 2022 5:21 AM |
I have a currant relationship with raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 27, 2022 5:21 AM |
Is this your raison d'être, op?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 27, 2022 5:24 AM |
Rasins are the desiccated sins of heterosexual Catholics who are pedophiles. They are to be avoided.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 27, 2022 5:28 AM |
If you eat a lot of raisins, does it give you the trots? Just wondering.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 27, 2022 5:31 AM |
If you want to be fancy you can call them sultanas. It's colonial and absolutely delicious!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 27, 2022 5:36 AM |
I loathe them.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 27, 2022 5:47 AM |
R9 Yes, I like craisins much more than raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 27, 2022 5:50 AM |
I'm with R3, raisins are suitable for cereal, cookies, oatmeal, raisin bread and bagels. I also put them in curried chicken salad. Craisins are okay and in pretty much the same things.
And rum raisin haagen dazs.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 27, 2022 5:57 AM |
They're good in meatballs!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 27, 2022 5:59 AM |
They haven't made a smooth transition to savory dishes like cranberries have
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 27, 2022 6:10 AM |
There's no possible use for raisins for which Craisins would not do better.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 27, 2022 6:50 AM |
I usually like "two scoops."
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 27, 2022 6:59 AM |
Nothing like your first sentence has ever been uttered before, OP.
And as for my relationship with raisins, I do not kiss and tell.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 27, 2022 7:03 AM |
I mix them into the bowl of melted chocolate to elevate my chocolate crispy cake offering when obliged to bring a dish or open the door at Hallowe’en. For adults only events I soak the dried fruits in malt whisky overnight to make a luxurious deluxe version.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 27, 2022 7:10 AM |
I don't like raisins. Can only stand them in Raisin Bran and only because they're super hard/chewy/dried out. It's a texture thing for me, I guess. I don't like them plump and juicy, they make me think I'm eating freshly dead flies.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 27, 2022 8:09 AM |
They're nature's candy!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 27, 2022 8:41 AM |
These "raisins" sound mouth-watering. Is a handful of dead flies an appropriate substitute?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 27, 2022 11:05 AM |
Flashback to childhood here: I still cling to the concept of raisins being great, but only Sun Maid brand in those little boxes. In preschool and grade school we’d get them as a treat. You’d be handed this little, individual box with little chewy things inside. Somehow that just seemed like such a delicious, unique treat to me as a kid. They never, ever tasted remotely as good as you anticipated, of course. But I still get that little flash of “oh, cool!” in my brain when I see the little boxes in the store.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 27, 2022 12:22 PM |
I ate TWO in one sitting once and I was so full!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 27, 2022 2:04 PM |
This thread is making me want to buy raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 27, 2022 2:14 PM |
Surprising the Sun Maid wench hasn't been erased
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 27, 2022 3:11 PM |
I only like them in oatmeal.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 27, 2022 3:13 PM |
I prefer sultanas.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 27, 2022 3:16 PM |
r23, pig.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 27, 2022 6:36 PM |
I have never, ever associated raisins with All Hallows Ween, but I do enjoy them in baked goods
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 27, 2022 7:20 PM |
There have been so many deflating moments when you think you've finally found the strangely rare Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie, only to realize that it's same old same old Oatmeal Raisin
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 27, 2022 9:32 PM |
I prefer Golden Raisins and eat some daily in my oatmeal instead of using any sweetener.
Raisins have a moderately low glycemic index, which means they don't cause sharp spikes and dips in your blood sugar levels. This can make raisins a great sweet snack option for people with diabetes. Some research shows that raisins can help people lose or manage weight.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 27, 2022 9:51 PM |
since when are they a halloween treat?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 27, 2022 9:59 PM |
32 posts and no one excoriating us about bread pudding with raisins? I happen to like it that way. I buy the large, moist raisins that are made from Red Flame™ grapes, they are tasty on their own and are perfect in sweet or savory dishes.
Tea biscuits/scones with raisins, split, toasted and buttered lavishly. Mmmmmm......
Anyone remember CHUNKY™ chocolate candy? It looked like a truncated pyramid, and was filled with cashews and raisins. I make them for Christmas, and give them as gifts, or to fill out a cookie tray.

I suspect this stanza applies to some (many?) Dataloungers.
What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore—
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 27, 2022 10:07 PM |
I like them in granola . I don't buy granola without raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 27, 2022 10:18 PM |
I like golden raisins. And to answer R7, I have a hit-and-miss relationship with them and they have been known to induce some nasty gas.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 27, 2022 10:21 PM |
People gave out raisins at Halloween as a healthy alternative to candy - at least in the 70s and early 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 27, 2022 10:22 PM |
raisins ruin anything savory. the only way i really enjoy them is enrobed in chocolate (like a Fruit and Nut bar, which sounds slutty)
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 27, 2022 10:42 PM |
Not fond of them.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 27, 2022 10:43 PM |
If you give out raisins on Halloween, prepare to have your house TP'd or egged.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 27, 2022 10:47 PM |
I like them in rice pudding. They soften up and rehydrate just enough to lose some of their sticky stiffness.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 27, 2022 11:04 PM |
[quote]They're for people who like grapes, only really really old.
Which is really, really old--the people or the grapes?

Wegmans makes a tasty curried chicken salad with raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 27, 2022 11:54 PM |
both, r43.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 27, 2022 11:54 PM |
I fucking hate them. They ruin everything.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 28, 2022 12:18 AM |
In chocolate, yes. Anywhere else, fuck no.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 28, 2022 2:25 AM |
Raisins. Ah, Liaisons
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 28, 2022 2:40 AM |
They are disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 28, 2022 2:43 AM |
Golden raisins have always struck me as vaguely evil, like cauliflower. Both look like the Dark Side version of, respectively, normal raisins and broccoli.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 28, 2022 2:49 AM |
[quote]only Sun Maid brand in those little boxes
R22 I love those little boxes. I empty one into my oatmeal every morning.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 28, 2022 2:51 AM |
I love Craisins (and whoever came up with that snappy name should hopefully have become the head of Marketing). I love oatmeal cookies with raisins as much as i love chocolate chip cookies (both freshly baked, of course). Chicken salad (both curried and plain) isn't the same without either raisins or Craisins.
But Zante currants > raisins any day.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 28, 2022 3:06 AM |
Hated raisin bread as a kid because I, too, was reminded of freshly dead flies baked into the loaf.
They should put chocolate chips in oatmeal cookies instead. Chocolate is always an improvement.
The best raisins I’ve ever had were the ones rolled in crushed almonds in Raisin Nut Bran cereal. Oh, Darfur Orphan, your malnourished brain cannot imagine how delicious they are. I should send you a care package, but I’m busy. I need to reorganize my snow globe collection. It’s the holiday season, after all.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 28, 2022 3:43 AM |
Yes, r9. They are great in a chicken salad with walnuts, dill, and red onion.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 28, 2022 3:46 AM |
See's Candies makes a piece of candy that is so delicious. It is called a rum nougat. Aside from the dark chocolate covered caramel, it is my favorite in the entire Nuts & Chews box.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 28, 2022 3:56 AM |
Raisins really do make Irish Soda Bread what it is
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 28, 2022 4:09 AM |
As you get older, you gain a whole new respect for people who hand out raisins for Halloween
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 28, 2022 4:10 AM |
This is one of those things that comes down to brand. Good raisins are good but I don’t like the cheap grainy ones.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 28, 2022 4:14 AM |
I don't like them hot - like a friend made some Austrian streudel and the hot raisins ruined it, I thought. But then Raisin Bran Crunch is my favorite cereal.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 28, 2022 4:16 AM |
I love raisins. If you don't, you're a fucking loser.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 28, 2022 4:18 AM |
raisins are losers
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 28, 2022 4:30 AM |
Chocolate covered raisins. Mmmm! Worth the high blood sugar.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 28, 2022 4:34 AM |
Raisins have been known to show up in one's stool the day after.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 28, 2022 4:38 AM |
I guess if you search hard enough. No, thanks.

[quote] See's Candies makes a piece of candy that is so delicious. It is called a rum nougat.
I love See's Candies and I like raisins, but I don't like that rum nougat candy.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 28, 2022 4:51 AM |
I like raisins in my Grape Nuts, steel-cut oats, rolled oats.
I don't like raisins so much when they're baked into something (like bran muffins) because they become waterlogged and lose their chewy texture & concentrated flavor.
Not sure why raisins are disliked, now. They're pretty mild-tasting.

Au contraire, r66! I have a small collection!
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 28, 2022 10:58 AM |
Since childhood I've loved all forms of dried fruits. Apricots, figs, raisins, currants, sultanas etc. Made our Christmas cake end of July and have been 'feeding' it brandy each month. Can't wait for Christmas mince pies too!
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 28, 2022 11:33 AM |
I soak raisins in a little warm rum for a treat now and then.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 28, 2022 11:42 AM |
I love them, in fruitloaf, bread, chocolate or on their own. Like R74 I like most dried fruit
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 28, 2022 12:41 PM |
[quote] There's no possible use for raisins for which Craisins would not do better.
You have to be a little crazin to prefer Craisins.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 28, 2022 1:00 PM |
I think the Sun Maid Raisins gal hasn't been canceled because she is Italian and it's still OK to make fun of Italians (and Irish, Scottish, German, Swiss, Austrian, Poles, Russians, and WASPs.) As well as most Eastern European nationalities.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 30, 2022 4:17 PM |
^ Did I leave anyone out? Canadians, maybe?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | October 30, 2022 4:17 PM |
The only thing worse than a raisin on a regular day, is raisins received when trick or treating. Nature's candy, my ass. Giving raisins to trick or treaters is just begging for your house to be egged, TPd, and flaming dog pooed.
Chocolate covered raisins? Why do that to chocolate? Chocolate is wonderful, why would you ruin it by putting it on disgusting shriveled raisins.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 30, 2022 8:19 PM |
I only buy golden raisins. They’re better tasting.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 30, 2022 9:53 PM |
Do you prefer Goobers or Raisinetes?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | February 11, 2023 5:54 AM |
I'm finally allowed to post again and this is the thread I'm doing so. Raisins. I love them all, even you guys. Sun Maid are the pinnacle. I even like the bonnet.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | February 12, 2023 12:19 AM |
Raisins is one of the all time best South Park episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | February 12, 2023 3:04 AM |
Love them in rice pudding. Here's a good recipe that calls for both golden and regular raisins using leftover white rice. I always seem to have a pint leftover from Chinese takeout and I hate to throw it out so I make this.
