Jack Scalia: 1970s Underwear Model

Does anyone remember this guy? In the late 1970s, underwear ads and ads for Jordache jeans featuring Jack Scalia created such a craze that people were stealing the ads all over NYC, especially in the subways. He was HOT. People tried to make him into a major star but his acting career never really took off, though he was on Dallas for a while.

Anyone remember him or have any sightings or stories to share?

Why didn't he have a bigger career?

And why don't young men look anywhere near this hot today?

He was in a cheesy woman's movie where he owned a Caribbean hotel.

He sat down for dinner at the restaurant wearing a tiny 'lap-lap' or sarong which rode up his thighs and barely contained his manhood.

Fabulous chin-cleavage!

by Anonymousreply 1October 21, 2022 2:32 AM

Was he homosexual?

by Anonymousreply 2October 21, 2022 2:33 AM

He married Miss Universe . . . then they divorced.

by Anonymousreply 3October 21, 2022 2:34 AM

He was in Rock Hudson’s Rolodex. They worked together.

by Anonymousreply 4October 21, 2022 2:35 AM

[quote] but his acting career never really took off…

He wasn't an actor but he knew how to take off his clothes.

by Anonymousreply 5October 21, 2022 2:36 AM

He was Sue Ellen's business manager on 'Dallas' when she owned Valentine Lingerie.

by Anonymousreply 6October 21, 2022 2:37 AM

^^ so, totally sus then...

by Anonymousreply 7October 21, 2022 2:37 AM

I do remember him OP. I never knew his name but I do recognize his face. He was handsome as hell.

by Anonymousreply 8October 21, 2022 2:39 AM

[quote] And why don't young men look anywhere near this hot today?

Men aren't allowed to be masculine any more.

by Anonymousreply 9October 21, 2022 2:40 AM

Major coke addiction. Not rumor, he addresses this in interviews. Drugs probably derailed his career.

by Anonymousreply 10October 21, 2022 2:44 AM

I don't recommend watching the Joanne Pacula film "Sweet Deception," but Scalia's attempt at a Southern accent almost turned a thriller into a comedy.

by Anonymousreply 11October 21, 2022 2:44 AM

[quote] In the late 1970s, underwear ads and ads for Jordache jeans featuring Jack Scalia created such a craze that people were stealing the ads all over NYC…

We were started for titillation back in those days.

We had to pay $10 for a sordid video from a tawdry filthy porn shop.

by Anonymousreply 12October 21, 2022 2:45 AM

1970s men and 1980s men were the hottest!!!! It all went downhill for looks after those decades.

by Anonymousreply 13October 21, 2022 2:45 AM

Here's a clip from that cheesy woman's movie mentioned at R1.

He strips down in the last minute.

Let’s get down to basics.

by Anonymousreply 15October 21, 2022 2:48 AM

He was an Erica Kane suitor for a while.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 16October 21, 2022 2:52 AM

R15 Did he shave his chest?

by Anonymousreply 17October 21, 2022 2:54 AM

Jack's attempted to ride the wave of the 80s hunk craze, but he never achieved the superstardom of Tom Selleck, John Schneider, etc.

by Anonymousreply 18October 21, 2022 2:54 AM

I actually think Jack was way hotter than Selleck or John Schneider--who are both hot.

by Anonymousreply 19October 21, 2022 2:57 AM

He was reported to have had an affair with Jackie Collins.

by Anonymousreply 20October 21, 2022 2:58 AM

Excessive use of Poppers when he and Hudson were having sex during the time they were shooting "The Devlin Connection" led to Hudson's heart attack.

by Anonymousreply 21October 21, 2022 3:13 AM

What??? Seriously R21???? I never heard that. If that's true, how did he escape AIDS?

by Anonymousreply 22October 21, 2022 3:15 AM

I'll bet you respond to e-mails from Nigerian princes too, don't you, R22.

by Anonymousreply 23October 21, 2022 3:20 AM

Didn't Jack play Joey Buttafuoco in one of three made for TV movies of the 1980s? Ed Marinaro played Joey in another one but I can't remember what 80s hunk played Joey in the 3rd one.

by Anonymousreply 24October 21, 2022 3:20 AM

Hudson was not yet infected in 1982 when they worked together. I worked on the show as a personal assistant to one of the writers and most of us were aware of what was going on. Hudson was really enamored of Scalia.

by Anonymousreply 25October 21, 2022 3:22 AM

Yes R24, I'd forgotten about him playing Joey Buttafuoco.

by Anonymousreply 26October 21, 2022 3:24 AM

R25 please tell us more! Was Jack a top or a bottom in the situation? Was it serious or just quid pro quo? Was that Jack's only homo relationship?

by Anonymousreply 27October 21, 2022 3:25 AM

Hudson may have been 'really enamored of Scalia' but we shouldn't assume they touched each other.

by Anonymousreply 28October 21, 2022 3:27 AM

R27 is a dipshit. 🤦‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 29October 21, 2022 3:27 AM

Jack was a top in this case. Rock loved to bottom for someone with a large cock, which Scalia had, and then some. Jack may have had other flings, but I have no corroboration about them and only know of this, with certainty, because of working on the show. I think it was serious at the time. Jack looked different than most of the guy's Rock seemed to like and Rock was very protective of him. Jack seemed to genuinely appreciate Rock's professional advice and Rock even curtailed his excessive drinking while working with Jack.

by Anonymousreply 30October 21, 2022 3:28 AM

R29 has a foul mouth.

by Anonymousreply 31October 21, 2022 3:29 AM

He kind of reminds me of the actor on "Dallas" who played Dusty Farlow, who was Sue Ellen's side piece.

by Anonymousreply 32October 21, 2022 3:29 AM

Thanks R30 and R31.

by Anonymousreply 33October 21, 2022 3:30 AM

I vaguely remember him as being a terrible actor.

by Anonymousreply 34October 21, 2022 3:31 AM

Jack Scalia's character on All My Children: "Erica, when I said I was staying so close to you because I was in love with you, I was lying. I'm not a janitor. I'm not a lawyer. I'm a secret agent and I've been assigned to protect you because your life is in deadly danger. You could be killed at any minute."

Erica: (Beat) "Then...you're not in love with me."

by Anonymousreply 35October 21, 2022 3:32 AM

R34, see R5.

by Anonymousreply 36October 21, 2022 3:32 AM

r9 thinks wannabe actors and male models are the epitome of masculinity

You sound as dumb as Tucker Carlson and those right-wingers who are obsessed with "masculinity"

by Anonymousreply 37October 21, 2022 3:34 AM

I remember him as the character on Remington Steele who was the third wheel that came between Laura and Remington. I HATED him because my young heart was all about Pierce Brosnan.

by Anonymousreply 38October 21, 2022 3:38 AM

R37 You have me all wrong! I'm just sick of Gen Y and Gen Z "men" with rapidly shrinking ball syndrome.

by Anonymousreply 39October 21, 2022 3:39 AM

Good ol' Joey Buttafuoco...

Too bad he didn't do full frontal back in the day. I bet he really had the goods.

by Anonymousreply 43October 21, 2022 3:50 AM

He's in that dreary Valerie Bertinelli miniseries I'll Take Manhattan.

by Anonymousreply 44October 21, 2022 3:51 AM

He's supposedly broke, right? And renting himself out to some old billionaire chick associated with some scam called Yellowstone and a Trump supporter as well as a grifter who stole from a military charity he started. Since his website is about him being a "casino player," I assume he might be a gambling addict???

by Anonymousreply 45October 21, 2022 3:52 AM

Don't you like masculinity, R37?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 46October 21, 2022 4:01 AM

Agreed, R43. He was a perfect candidate for Playgirl. Imagining that large cock and a thick bush. Maybe he was sensitive about the size of his cock. If it was huge, he may have been remembered by that fact alone.

by Anonymousreply 47October 21, 2022 4:01 AM

R30 what kind of men was Rock Hudson usually into, and how was Jack different?

by Anonymousreply 48October 21, 2022 4:02 AM

R43 what lovely thoughts. . .sigh.

by Anonymousreply 49October 21, 2022 4:03 AM

Ooopps that was for R47. . . what lovely thoughts you have. sigh.

by Anonymousreply 50October 21, 2022 4:03 AM

Jack in Playgirl would have been the bomb.

by Anonymousreply 51October 21, 2022 4:04 AM

I worked w him during his All My Children last gasp. SO MUCH EGO. Cocky. Abhorrent politics. Wish him well, but he was a lot.

by Anonymousreply 52October 21, 2022 4:12 AM

He was hot during his Devlin Connection days.

by Anonymousreply 53October 21, 2022 4:16 AM

R52 What did he smell like? Does he smell good? What kind of colonge of aftershave does he wear?

by Anonymousreply 54October 21, 2022 4:36 AM

He died on Dallas. Plunged off a balcony while fighting with JR. Sue Ellen then *shot* JR (of course he survived).

by Anonymousreply 55October 21, 2022 4:43 AM

They never should have killed him off so soon on Dallas. He was a great character, very popular with the viewers. Also, his accent actually worked for that part. I've never seen him so natural before. His acting was good on Dallas! Why did they kill him so soon???

by Anonymousreply 56October 21, 2022 4:45 AM

My goodness, r53! I didn't realize that there was such a large age discrepancy when he worked with Rock. Rock couldn't have lasted many years after that project.

by Anonymousreply 57October 21, 2022 1:15 PM

The Devlin Connection opening credits. The shot of Rock walking past the women dancers is funny.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 58October 21, 2022 2:05 PM

Rock Hudson was only 60 when he died.

Clooney is 61. Pitt is 58.

The big stars from the 1950s and 1960s Hollywood really didn't age well.

But, Hudson was gorgeous in his prime.

by Anonymousreply 59October 21, 2022 2:29 PM

Not shocking that Scalia dicked Mr. Hudson. Jack was fame-hungry and wanted to be taken seriously, way beyond all the underwear adverts. Btw, who didn't Erika Kane sleep with?

by Anonymousreply 60October 21, 2022 3:15 PM

Everyone in the industry knew Rock was gay and assumed that he would have to approve his co-star so Jack was assumed to be gay by association.

by Anonymousreply 61October 21, 2022 3:29 PM

Rock's "protégé" To give him credit he always spoke fondly of Hudson.

This was the older partner/younger partner formula of all these detective shows Streets of SFO,Barnaby Jones ect. The hot younger partner would chase the perp down in his speedo and the old geezer would pull up in his Lincoln , stick a pistol out the window and say "Book em Dano."

One W for r66. I agree completely with your first sentence. As for your second, John-John was the good-looking version of John-John.

by Anonymousreply 67October 21, 2022 5:08 PM

Scalia was a looker. I've never heard the Rock Hudson stuff before but it seems very unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 68October 21, 2022 5:13 PM

A female acquaintance who was gorgeous, from a rich and prominent NYC family and in her early 20’s had a fling with Jack in the mid 1980’s. She wouldn’t spill any details but said he went after her very aggressively.

Everyone knows Jack Saclia was not gay. He was normal. From what I know to be a fact neither was Rock Hudson. He was married to a WOMAN for Pete's sake! Look it up! It's disgusting how you gays try to claim everyone was gay even Abraham Lincoln. LMAO!

by Anonymousreply 74October 21, 2022 6:25 PM

Rock was also married to a woman!!

I don't think anyone claimed that Jack was gay, but I worked on "The Devlin Connection" and they were definitely having a fling.

Jack visited Rock in his final weeks and during the visit, Rock's spirits soared. I know the look that two people who have been intimate in the past share, and they shared it.

You had to personally know Rock to understand why someone like Jack would fall under his spell. When not drinking to excess, Rock was funny, charming, very intelligent and quite sexy, even in his latter 50's. In addition, Rock had a way of looking at you and making you feel that you were the most important person in the world. To a struggling newcomer, that would have been alluring.

Uhhh...that just doesn't sound plausible. When you say 'intimate' are you referring to the sex act where the man goes up inside the other man? Because we're gonna need receipts on that.

I recall a man looking very much like Jack Scalia naked in Viva or Foxy Lady magazine in 1973. Was he famous by that time?

by Anonymousreply 93October 22, 2022 12:35 AM

Well, I'm back after HOURS of being banned. Why was I banned? For starting this thread? Someone on this thread said I was "grayed out." Is that true? Did my starting this thread anger people enough to get me banned from posting. Why????

by Anonymousreply 94October 22, 2022 12:45 AM

Sorry if that’s true, OP. Thanks for starting the topic.

by Anonymousreply 95October 22, 2022 12:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 96October 22, 2022 12:56 AM

So true R80 --One of my favorite things about Jack is his working-class look! When younger, he was a professional baseball player, and that shows. That's what makes him so sexy. I want to see more men like that, but today's models look so fake like they never did any work (but plastic surgery). I also like that he has the perfect amount of body hair and he's fit and muscular without any tats and without looking roided out.

by Anonymousreply 97October 22, 2022 1:00 AM
