R2, death often does that to people—they’ve watched someone die, now they need to live, they want to be in another relationship. I’ve seen this happen several times. Some people just can’t bear being alone.

How long were she and Cazale together? Who knows how it would have played out. If he had lived a longer life, they could have been married and divorced in a couple of years. We tend to idealize short-lived relationships.

Cazale's ex-wife or ex-girlfriend I forget which was on the lease of the apartment Streep shared with Cazale. She threw Streep out within days of his death. That's how she met Gummer. She sublet his place while he was studying in Europe. They got to know each other thru correspondence and phone calls.
Word spread of what the woman did to Streep and mafia types who idolized Cazale from the Godfather would contact her asking if she wanted them to take care of the woman.
