Margot Robbie could end up starring in three big studio bombs in a row.

Amsterdam, Babylon and Barbie.

Babylon: I know Brad Pitt is in it, but he's not as consistent as people like DiCaprio and The Rock. Plus, no one gives a shit about old Hollywood.

Barbie:: Movies based on toys/video games are not always a giving. Especially when they're female-centric.

by Anonymousreply 43October 27, 2022 4:19 PM

The Rock?

by Anonymousreply 1October 12, 2022 4:52 AM

I actually think Babylon looks promising. Margot has made good choices ( or her agent has) thus far but I agree about Barbie. Terrible idea and way too 2004/2005 ish for current audiences. It's one of those movie ideas that just looks outdated rather than vintage.

by Anonymousreply 2October 12, 2022 4:54 AM

[quote] Plus, no one gives a shit about old Hollywood.

The Netflix mini-series "Hollywood," about old Hollywood, got pretty good ratings.

by Anonymousreply 3October 12, 2022 4:56 AM

She’s taking big paycheck movies and it’s going to hurt her. I think that’s what happens in Hollywood. Once you become a high value, smaller movies can’t afford you and big studios want to make money off you and will put you in bullshit with big budgets.

by Anonymousreply 4October 12, 2022 4:58 AM

It’s better to rake in all the cash she can right now. When she ages out of leading lady status (she’s already in her 30s) she can do the artsy independent stuff.

by Anonymousreply 5October 12, 2022 5:08 AM

She doesn't have enough talent to make up for her lack of box office prowess.

by Anonymousreply 6October 12, 2022 5:22 AM

[quote]When she ages out of leading lady status

Honey, she's never been a leading lady.

by Anonymousreply 7October 12, 2022 5:25 AM

I want to see her career flushed down the toilet for being a phony liberal/feminist by working with the likes of Tarantino, James Gunn, David O. Russell and Brad Pitt.

by Anonymousreply 8October 12, 2022 5:26 AM

R5 I feel like she’s been in her 30’s for over 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 9October 12, 2022 7:22 AM

Hollywood needs to stop foisting these boring aussie women on Americans.

by Anonymousreply 10October 12, 2022 7:23 AM

This bitch is doing EVERYTHING right. She is slick and savvy! More power to her! She will be a HUGE star very soon!

by Anonymousreply 11October 12, 2022 7:31 AM

She's in demand and not slowing down working on multiple projects. In postproduction is "Asteroid City" the new Wes Anderson film. She's listed as the lead of a large ensemble that includes Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johannson, Steve Carell, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Tilda, Swinton, Leiv Schreiber, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum and Matt Dillion. The film is about an astronomy convention in a desert town in the 1950's, where "students and parents meet and their knowledge, experiences and lives overlap in unexpected ways." She's fine and sends her love.

by Anonymousreply 12October 12, 2022 8:09 AM

I don't even really think she's competent. Totally boring.

by Anonymousreply 13October 12, 2022 8:13 AM

She's given some very good performances and some mediocre ones. But at least she doesn't do the Michelle Williams/ Amy Adams/ Naomi Watts thing of playing every single role looking like she's on the verge of tears. The sooner Sad Leading Lady goes out of vogue the better. It wasn't like this in the 90s. Say what you will about Julia Roberts and Sharon Stone but at least they didn't seem so comatose and in need of a seroquel infusion.

Robbie should do another 60s/70s era film like OATIH, maybe a 70s noir set in L.A. or something. Her look is very much of that era.

by Anonymousreply 14October 12, 2022 8:24 AM

She's very good in "I, Tonya". Even though she's far too beautiful to be Tonya Harding it's told from her perspective so why wouldn't she make herself more beautiful. An excellent film, funny, touching and Allison Janney kills, as always, as her mom.

There is always work in soaps back in Australia for Margot.

by Anonymousreply 16October 12, 2022 8:47 AM

I like Gosling and Robbie, but I would never cast them in Barbie. I would think along the lines of Armie Hammer and Charlize Theron.

by Anonymousreply 17October 12, 2022 8:57 AM

[quote]Honey, she's never been a leading lady. [quote] She will be a HUGE star very soon!

Christ: delusional much? She's both a huge star and a leading lady.

But I agree, there's a sameness to many of her performances. Of course, one can say that of all stars. But very very competent. And sane.

#18's link shows she's had some minor tweaks done to her face. Softer and prettier than the pic below.

by Anonymousreply 19October 12, 2022 9:12 AM

She looks so much fucking older than her age. I thought she was a well preserved 40.

by Anonymousreply 20October 12, 2022 10:19 AM

But at least I got $12 million for each bomb, much more than you will ever make in your fat lifetime, fat OP.

by Anonymousreply 21October 12, 2022 10:27 AM

R20 No, she's in her early 30s and looks it. Most people that age don't still have the face of teenagers. I like the fact that she actually looks like an adult. It's tiresome watching films where a character well into adulthood still looks 14. People have become so used to unnaturally young faces that they claim that anyone who doesn't look unusually young looks a decade older.

by Anonymousreply 22October 12, 2022 10:43 AM

[quote] The Netflix mini-series "Hollywood," about old Hollywood, got pretty good ratings.

No it didn’t. It was a huge flop.

by Anonymousreply 23October 12, 2022 10:47 AM

^ Because the casting and writing was mundane! Just like this new one.

by Anonymousreply 24October 12, 2022 11:03 AM

[quote]It was a huge flop.

At least we'll always have Bros!

by Anonymousreply 25October 12, 2022 11:03 AM

I hate it when trolls are obvious. This OP is sloppy as hell, yet of course there are always DLers who will bite.

by Anonymousreply 26October 12, 2022 11:09 AM

This is Hollywood, she’s had a mature look for years and look at those lines around the eyes, she must smoke.

by Anonymousreply 27October 12, 2022 11:13 AM

Good that she’s not injecting around her eyes with poison though.

by Anonymousreply 28October 12, 2022 11:14 AM

Barbie is not going to bomb.

by Anonymousreply 29October 12, 2022 11:19 AM

R15 She's not good in that clip either. Ugh. And the tone of that film? Wannabe citizen Ruth. Same way she does Harley Jane or whatever, it's not even funny or anything.

by Anonymousreply 30October 12, 2022 1:04 PM

Barbie should do well as a curiosity object with big stars, but Babylon will bomb badly. Babylon and Amsterdam may just be written off as expensive director’s caprices, though, and Barbie will be seen as the genuine litmus test of her star power.

by Anonymousreply 31October 12, 2022 1:26 PM

Everything is working against Babylon -110 million budget, opens a week after Avatar, r-rated with nudity and sexual content which the American audience frown upon, brad child abuse allegations and the ceo of paramount was fired after he green light the movie.

by Anonymousreply 32October 13, 2022 2:44 PM

I thought the Babylon trailer was excellent! I can't wait.

by Anonymousreply 33October 22, 2022 2:56 PM

Sorry did i miss something? Did Amsterdam bomb?

by Anonymousreply 34October 22, 2022 3:06 PM

R34 = Bombed hard. They're predicted to make a $100 million loss on the movie.

Margot is box office poison.

by Anonymousreply 35October 22, 2022 3:07 PM

Actually, she's already starred in 3 flops in a row... Birds of Prey (2020), The Suicide Squad (2021), Amsterdam (2022). Bombshell (2019) was also a box office disappointment.

by Anonymousreply 36October 22, 2022 3:21 PM

There's something seriously wrong with movie titles these days. They don't capture people's interest. "Bros"? WTF is that- Will Ferrell and Seth Rogen on a road trip?

by Anonymousreply 37October 22, 2022 3:23 PM

All those bombs and she's in her thirties too which is not good for a female actor.

by Anonymousreply 38October 22, 2022 3:25 PM

Amsterdam was terrible but I actually liked Margot in it. John David Washington is an awful actor and had zero chemistry with her, unfortunately. It’s a mess.

by Anonymousreply 39October 22, 2022 3:38 PM

Woe be to her.

by Anonymousreply 40October 22, 2022 3:42 PM

[quote]Margot is box office poison.

She’s been in some very successful movies as well (Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, I Tonya) and she’s twice Oscar nominated. Also arguably the most beautiful actress working in Hollywood today. She’s fine.

by Anonymousreply 41October 22, 2022 3:52 PM

R39 Don't go talkin' about my son like that! I'll send Will over to your place to slap your white face.

by Anonymousreply 42October 23, 2022 9:29 AM

Also from this decade:

Birds of Prey: Not a total flop, but certainly a disappointment and pretty mediocre as a movie.

Dreamland: Did not make any money, but wasn't really supposed to. Medicore film. I heard the original script was better.

Suicide Squad 2: A box office bomb, but performed relatively well on streaming services and has its fans (I'm not one of them).
