Zodiac (2007)

I’ve always wondered why Ione Skye was not credited for her role in the film. Obviously a conscious choice as much less important roles were credited. It’s not like her career was hot at that point, so appearing far down in the credits of a major film couldn’t have been that much of an issue(?)

John Carroll Lynch was creepy as hell

I don't think there's a single dud performance.
But wasn't this a very toxic set?

This is amongst my favourite films too. Apparently a lot of people didn't like how ot ended, but what could they do? The real world Zodiac was never caught. 🤔

I loved the unlikely basement scene in San Francisco…with the cinephile who was probably just a cinephile…

That stabbing scene in broad daylight was terrifying.

Absolutely one of the best films ever made.
It’s the only reason I give Fincher a pass for a lot of his poor decision making (Mank).

Brian Hartnell (the stabbing victim) said it was disturbingly accurate.

Jake was at peak hotness in this film.

I prefer Se7en, which is the best serial killer movie of the modern age. YES, superior to Silence of the Lambs! Zodiac is one of those movies like that Korean film Memories of Murder where they spend the entire movie trying to find a vicious killer and at the end don't find him. With movies like that I always feel like, "what was the point of that?" No resolution feels pointless.

"Hurry Gurdy Man" was a great choice for the musical score.

Se7en is just gory and pointless, and unrealistic (you really think serial murderers kill in such goofy, elaborate ways?)

One of the 2000s' best films, IMO.

I was so disturbed after seeing this movie in theaters that I slept with all of the lights on in my apartment that night.

I liked this movie, but it didn't hold up strongly during rewatches. I still like it a bit, but the digital-ness of it started to appear…

I liked Jake G's serious grown boy scout energy in this.

this is on my list of favorite movies; everyone really turned in top notch performances. I haven't seen it quite some time though. Wish it was on Netflix.

I remember reading a take on the film that suggested that it posited that evil will always be unknowable - and that therefore evil will always win.
I hope that's wrong.

Best studio movie of the 2000s? Possibly? It's definitely a masterpiece.

If you liked Zodiac, you should really check out Fincher's Mindhunter series on Netflix. It has the same look and feel of Zodiac. It only got 2 seasons, but Fincher hinted recently that a third season may actually happen.

I LOVE Mindhunter. There needs to be more seasons! Both male lead actors were exceptional.

R48, I took that scene as a nod to the theory that there was more than one Zodiac -- maybe a pair working in tandem.

R20, The Zodiac killer and the BTK Killer, who planned his "projects" with meticulous care, both had elaborate modus operandi and both taunted the police with puzzles or poems or letters. So did Jack the Ripper for that matter. As for being pointless, the John Doe killer in Se7en is one of the few movie killers who DID have a point. His disgust with society's moral corruption and depravity compelled him to lash out brutally at the people responsible. You actually find yourself agreeing with his assessment of his victims which is the truly terrifying thing. You're identifying with a psychopath. I stand by my original statement: Se7en is the best of the modern serial killer films and historically it ranks up there with "M" and "Night of the Hunter" and "Psycho".

Some believe that the murders were done by different people who were programmed with Monarch type trauma based mind control by the government.
