I thought she did fine. With regards to degrading herself, how? Simulating a blowjob? It was hardly at the level of brown bunny. The film itself was not great but is not showgirls level dross. I think it’s more likely it will just be sort of forgotten like My Week with Marilyn pretty much is too.

I don’t know what the fuss is about. Blonde is rather tame by todays standards. I mean look at any Gaspard Noé film for reference. So you see a penis briefly. You saw a penis briefly in Bergman’s persona too in 1966.

I didn’t like this movie and didn’t love Ana’s performance but I’ve seen worse things in Euphoria than Blonde.

R2 Yeah I’m kinda tired of hearing about all the outrage concerning this movie. People are giving it more attention than it deserves. No one will be talking about it in 10 years from now.

Ana’s performance wasn’t bad, I liked her especially in the first half. My issue is all she has to do is cry and suffer onscreen. That got old fast. Adrien Brody was MVP.

Some stuff was messed up but based on the online outrage I was expecting a lot worse. Or maybe I watch too much fucked up tv and movies.

Well if I can be forgiven for comparing it to mulholland drive, both films have a similar theme fundamentally, the idea of the nightmare beneath the surface. Mulholland has so much rewatch ability but this film blonde is just unrelentingly depressing.

R8 Same. I was expecting it to be one of the most revolting and disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. I mostly found it hollow and forgettable, barring a few good sequences.

Her attempt to suppress her Spanish accent was a laughable failure. I didn't fing her performance noteworthy.

For example aside from the quick rape scene the most fucked up bit was the very long shot of her giving JFK a blowjob because of how degrading it was. The fetus/abortion stuff was weird too. Other than those it was her just being weepy with neat recreations of iconic Monroe scenes often set in slow motion. Wasnt completely terrible but it wasn't good. Definitely won't get Oscar noms.

She’ll be fine. She was terrific in her part of the new James Bond movie. The outrage is bullshit. Gay guys will see her as iconic and straight guys will jerk off to her sex scene.

I could see her being hated by women, but she’ll have a long career in high-profile male-centered movies. She was never gonna be Katherine Heigl anyway.

R14. Jackie is the only good one. I hated Spencer.

She did a good job. No one is criticizing her acting. No one said She ruined the movie, etc. It is t he Director's POV, and the story itself getting fried. The way he interpreted Marilyn and her life. His perspective. He is an asshole. Ask if his career will be ruined.

R7 yeah she was good in many scenes and overall acted quite well in capturing at least some of Marilyn's essence but it was one note. All she got to do was play her completely sad through most of the film. But I suppose her being happy or in a good state of mind didn't contribute to aim of the movie. The shots and way it was shot were often nice..It's just hard and monotonous to sit through nearly 3 hours of that.

R16 Dominik is an ass and his comments about Marilyn were awful. No arguments there.

Dominik doesn’t even work that prolific so that’s why I didn’t ask if his career will be ruined. He’ll probably have a tougher time making movies but he’s a man, his career won’t be ruined.

I'd rather remember Marilyn with all the joy and sex appeal and talent she brought to her films. When she finally showed up and acted on film, she was magic, and that magic lasted all these years.

I thought Poppy Montgomery did a better job in the 2001 made for television film adaption of Blonde. I enjoyed that movie overall and I know some people who like Joyce’s book. It’s unfortunate Dominik’s version had to end up like this because there was potential for a better film.

I would hate to be famous then die and have everybody project their traumas onto me or use me as a symbol to satisfy their narrative.

R23 I like Marilyn but ngl I’m sick of hearing about her. There’s other Old Hollywood actresses who were beautiful, charismatic, and had tragic lives. I’m only sorry that Marilyn has been exploited so much, but I wish we could move on from her and shine on a spotlight on other Old Hollywood actresses once and for all.

I'm sure Ana's career will be ok. From what I am reading about it, people think the movie was unnecessary, and repulsive. They don't like seeing Marilyn's memory getting raped all over again, and again, and again. Seriously how many more of these do we need?

R16 I agree. I haven't seen it yet, but from what I heard, no actress could have saved the movie. When someone said upthread, "a beloved celebrity..." or similar: Marilyn isn't the only one. JFK has almost saint status in the US and Europe, and along comes this movie, alleging he is a rapist. This doesn't go down well. Not even the GOP fanboys love this, having long claimed JFK as an idol of their own. JFK is supposed to be the victim in a conspiracy, not a perpetrator.

Didn't De Armas have a bomb with that Ben Affleck movie too. 2 bombs in a row doesn't do a career good.
