They show Columbo on a local substation in DC. Saturdays and Sundays nights IIRC. I cannot find a TV schedule for these substations. Even my TV won't give me the schedule that far in advance. This is when I regret not having children and grandchildren. They'd know how to make this dang clicker give me what I need.
Columbo is on the Sundance Channel also.

It’s amazing how liberal the old western tv shows were. They were all about treating people equally (except bad guys) and getting along with each other.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 29, 2022 9:25 PM |
They keep repeating the same few Twilight Zones & Columbo episodes. They obviously bought a low cost package deal. There are twilight zone episodes I’ve read about that I’ve never seen.I’ve certainly seen the Melting Sun Painting episode and the Drunken Couple in Deserted Town ones far too many times.

by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 30, 2022 1:14 AM |
^^of course! Its for eldergays, and will be so soothing and nostalgic. The screen will then go to gray fuzz until wake-up time at 5am. The subscription includes rabbit ears which will sit on the maple tv stand.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 30, 2022 1:32 AM |
r23 r24 It doesn't go off the air at all. (See schedule linked above.) But it's possible your local station that carries it goes off the air.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 30, 2022 3:12 AM |
R26, R23 was making a joke at the expense of eldergays by indicating they go to bed at that time. My response was also in jest, because in my youth the national anthem would play when television went off air each night.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 1, 2022 1:18 AM |
R37 Your barber is probably tuned to INSP, which stands for The Inspiration Network. It mainly runs old Westerns. My guide shows two hours of Cheyenne on their schedule (2pm - 4pm PT) M-F.
This channel was originally founded by PTL back in the late 70s. At some point, it rebranded. It's focus is on family-friendly content.

Funny as soon as I saw the name Will Hutchins I thought, “Hey Landlord.” So I looked it up and sure enough, Will Hutchins was one of the stars of “Hey Landlord.”
The other stars were Michael Constantine, who played the principal in Room 222 and was in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Sandy Baron who portrayed Jack Klompus, a friend of Jerry’s parents in Seinfeld who owned a pen that wrote upside down.
My mind is full of garbage like this. I wish there was a delete button so I could free up some memory.

Patrick McGoohan did it
Dick van Dyke did it
Roddy McDowall did it
Patrick O’Neal did it
The Irish writer did it
And those are the same 5 episodes you’ll see over and over again on Columbo.

"Route 66" was a great show--groundbreaking for the way it was filmed, in a different city along Route 66 each week. It also starred the incredibly beautiful (and gay) George Maharis.

Columbo is on Tubi and Peacock. I have Peacock for free so it's been Columbo and Cheers for me on there.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 3, 2022 7:32 PM |
R51 Yeah, it's one of the reasons I could never get into Columbo. He did his same old shtick with the big name guest star of the week who was always the guilty party.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 3, 2022 8:43 PM |
And you knew who the guilty party was from the beginning, because they showed them committing the crime. The rest of the episode was just Columbo annoying the shit out of the murderer until he could prove it.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 3, 2022 9:12 PM |
R57, which was the formula that made it so popular. The real "mystery" would be if Columbo would pick up on certain "clues." He usually always did. I just wish he wouldn't have walked around eating hard boiled eggs all the time. Yuck. I turn green and want to vomit whenever I see someone take a bite of one of those (real life or on screen).
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 3, 2022 9:42 PM |

KFLA shows reruns of "I Married Joan" for the poster who wants to torture himself.
I like it because the affable Jim Backus cannot hide his hatred and revulsion of Joan Davis and it shows onscreen. He privately called the show "I Married a Cunt."
[quote]The dislike between actor Jim Backus( later Thurston Howell III on Gilligans Island) made the unhappy relationship between Vivian Vance and William Frawley seem like a love affair. Backus absolutely detested Joan and the way she berated the crew and fellow actors. He told us that she even picked on the elderly Bernard Gorcey (Louie Dumbrowski of the Bowery Boys). We later talked to Sandra Gould (second Gladys Kravitz of Bewitched), Hope Summers (Clara on Griffith Show) and Hal Smith ( Otis the drunk) who confirmed her abuse of fellow actors.

Barbara Bain was 35 when she filmed that scene in the towel. And still was sexier and classier than any of the 20-something huge-chested "sexy" women stars of today.
“Remember the towel scene in our first show?” asks Barbara, referring to her bourdoir appearance in wich she was wrapped in a large turkish towel (I did indeed). “Well, before it went on the air, I was told that network brass were flying in from all points to discuss whether or not the scene should be left in. They were nervous and it took a six-hour meeting and lots or reassurance from Bruce before they could convince themselves it was all right."

R97 The Spectrum Channel Lineup (link) for Columbus OH, shows that MeTV is available with the Spectrum Select package (or higher) on Channel 986. I'm not finding MeTV+ listed in that resource for your area, but you might want to look yourself. It was just added a couple of weeks ago on my Spectrum service (in Los Angeles area). Spectrum has had QVC and Home Shopping Network on channels 6 and 8 of our lineup for decades. A few months ago, I noticed that Spectrum had moved QVC and Home Shopping Network to some other channel (no idea where since I don't watch either channel).
In their place on channels 6 and 8, Spectrum added MeTV+ and Decades. That was my first exposure to both channels. Both air as subchannels on various broadcast channels here in LA, but I had never seen them before Spectrum added them to my cable lineup.

R133 "Streets of San Francisco" is actually on MeTV+, the very subject of this thread.
Where I am (PT) it airs every weekday afternoon at 3:00pm. The episodes are from Season 1 so far.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | October 18, 2022 3:17 AM |
R133 It also appears that you can stream all five seasons of "The Streets of San Francisco" at the "Internet Archive."
Here's a link to the search results I put in. If you click on the season you want to watch, a scroll down menu for subsequent episodes within that season appears with the first video. I just tried watching a few, and they all play just fine. No commercials either.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | October 18, 2022 3:35 AM |
^^^ Okay it appears that DL wouldn't take the direct link I used. .. So just use the "Subject Search" within the link above and type in "The Streets of San Francisco."
Good luck.

Tonight on 77 Sunset Strip...Miss Doris Kenyon!
[quote]Henry Lane hires Stuart on behalf of his wealthy aunt, former silent screen star Lucinda Lane for a rather odd assignment: she wants to do a lavish and expensive silent remake of her 1922 silent screen classic, Foolish Girl, with Stuart not only to locate and hire its director Harkness Jones, scenarist Roderick Delaquois and leading man Bramwell Stone for the remake, but also to be the movie's producer despite he knowing nothing about the movie business. Stuart locating the three is difficult enough as each never could make the transition into talkies and now lead low key and in some cases poor lives, but his job becomes even more difficult when she subsequently wants to rehire much of the remaining surviving cast and crew from the original production as well. Stuart believes the project is pure folly in today's day and age especially as Lucinda throws around money without much thought, but largely follows her directives in his affection for her. It isn't until he is well ensconced in the job that Stuart learns that Henry, his cousin Charles Lane and their respective wives have ulterior motives in hiring him: they want Stuart's reports to show that Lucinda is crazy so that they can have her committed in an effort to take control of her estate before she squanders away all her money on the film, her estate that is most-likely deeded to them anyway. Charles has further motives as he is deep in debt to a loan shark the result of his gambling. Stuart is between a rock and hard place as her directives to him thus far may indeed be evidence that Lucinda is no longer in possession of her faculties, while he cannot legally or morally go against Henry in being his client who has done nothing of a criminal nature. In the process of protecting Lucinda, Stuart also has to learn who he can and cannot trust within her entourage, including her personal secretary, Marsha Frome, and her psychiatrist, Dr. Link Cowan.

r277 For the umpteenth time, MeTV (and its relatives) is NOT a cable channel. Verizon FIOS can't "carry" MeTV. They have to carry the local station in your market that's affiliated with it.

r281 Yes, that's YOUR local Verizon Fios. It's not a nationwide option. And again --they're not carrying MeTV-- they're carrying the over-the-air channel that broadcasts MeTV in your local area.

R60 I totally agree with you. I did watch Columbo, sometimes, because there wasn't that much on TV in those days, but even as a young teen I hated that formula. I remember saying it to my friends (who liked the show). You knew who did it, at the beginning, and then watched it go on and on with Peter Falk playing cat and mouse with the person. To me it only would have been interesting as a whodunit.
I'm not that interested in shows from the 70s. Is there a channel that shows 50s shows? Before my time but I'm interested in (and like) the TV of that era.

How did I miss this? I checked the schedule and couldn't find Hawaiian Eye. Is it Friday nights?
Embarrassing confession: When I was very young I loved Hawaiian Eye. I think it was the fact of the beach and I thought they lived around a pool and that seemed so cool to me. It was on Wednesday nights at 9 and my mother let me stay up late to watch it every week. Later I thought that living at the airport on Wings would be cool. My grown-up idea of a Barbie Dream House.

I liked Hawaiian Eye as a kid. It was already in syndication by then, it was not on at night when I saw it. My mom watched it. I now find it crazy that Jack Warner took his young contract movie stars and put them in TV series, in order to give a boost to the new Warner Bros TV production company. He just ended their movie careers. And most of the TV series were not super successful, so after that their careers were toast for a while.

R356, I watched that episode. It was pretty good. I am rather surprised that many of these old shows are as good as they are. We wrongly assume our modern story telling is better. I think we have an unearned exalted view of ourselves. We're more sarcastic and in-your-face sexual now and act hip but that's not necessarily a better story telling mode.
I was never crazy about Jack Lord or his character but I watched a really good episode the other night about a national black mailing racket. With lead guest star William Shatner as a shady private eye.

I'm loving the channel. Some of the stories are quite good.
Hawaiian Eye, 77 Sunset Strip and Original Hawaii 50. Some of the Mission Impossibles are pretty good - but they seem too 1970ish for me. The first season has the great Steven Hill as mission leader (replaced by Peter Graves (bother of James Arness - Gunsmoke). Hill later played Adam Schiff on Law & Order. Schiff was one of the originals in the Actors Studio and it was Schiff over Brando who Strasberg considered the more brilliant actor.
Never realized how small Bob Conrad was. Very fine and all but, well, compact. Also Tracy Steele is portrayed as kind of dopey at times. That surprised me. Like the old classics Connie Stevens has been singing.

Conrad's diminutive height , I think, gave him a pugnacious attitude, r362. I still want to know why Eisley's mustache looks fake. For me the M:I episodes with Cinnamon are the best. I know lots of shows did it back in those days but I always marvel at how "Adam-12" tended to use the same group of guest actors over and over again. They'd arrest an actor one week, then two episodes later they'd be back on as a victim (or vice versa). And I think Fred Stromsoe literally played a crook one week, then was added to the cast as Jerry the very next week (and stayed with the show till the end of its run).
By the way, MeTV has been running "Adam-12" at 5pm ET for a long time now. I imagine it must get good ratings for them since they don't seem eager to switch it out for something else (not that I'm complaining as I still enjoy it).

Dragnet was the first show to be successfully revived. It ran from 1950-1959, then from 1967-1970 (the color episodes). In the later version, Jack Webb and Harry Morgan dress the same in every episode, for four seasons - other than in scenes when they wear casual clothes. The reason was so that footage could be re-used to save time/money.
Many of the actors from the 1950s version returned for the 60s version. Virginia Gregg, Peggy Webber, Herb Vigran, Ralph Moody, etc. The 60s version gave parts to a lot of black actors and some Asian actors, which was unusual for that time.

It will lose the nightly Dick Cavett shows and the overnight airings of Dark Shadows, but other than that, the programming looks like it will stay relatively intact.
The weekend marathons apparently will be limited to comedies rather than hour-long dramas they often have.

Hawaiian Eye has another episode tonight that seems before its time. n abusive father of a grown daughter. I wonder how far they'll go and if they'll imply there's incest or at least in 1960 terms, an unnatural protective nature toward his daughter. Maybe she's really his mistress and not his daughter. They're from Texas.
Just looked. They are con artists trying to steal a diamond necklace. LOL
The Blue Goddess. First Aired Oct. 19, 1960
Harmon Kane believes his new girlfriend is from a wealthy family, but the fact is that she and her rich "father" are actually con artists planning to steal the valuable "Blue Goddess" necklace. When the girl's accomplice buys the necklace with a phony check and then skips, Tom is hired to get the necklace back.

These last few episodes show Steele more interested in Cricket. Eisley wrote that episode. Tonight on Hawaiian Eye Swan Song for A Hero first aired 1960 Dec 7
The Pacific Foundation awards Otto Van Helgren a hefty grant to sail a raft across the Pacific Ocean as a scientific experiment. However, a foundation official suspects something fishy when Von Helgren refuses to allow any photographs to be taken of him. He hires Tracy to find out what Von Helgren is up to, and Tracy in turn calls on Los Angeles private detective Rex Randolph (of Warner Bros.' companion show 77 Sunset Strip (1958)) to help him.
The Shell Bar presents Cricket singing "Lucky Day", a song written by Buddy DeSylva, Lew Brown and Ray Henderson for the revue George White's Scandals of 1926.
Cricket great dress w/ delicate beading - very nice – typical sweeping full skirted – low bodice with spaghetti straps – bit of sheer on bodice. I wish this was in color.
This is actually kind of funny. The guy is a Walter Mitty type con man.

I think this may be the very first episode of Mission Impossible with Mr. Briggs.
He gets his instructions from a record album in a record shop. Going through the photos of the possible agents to use on the mission. This looks so much cooler than the later ones.
Special Guest WALLLY COX!!!!!!

Yes, tonight is the MI Pilot episode. Aired Sept 17 1966
When the team first gets together they are in this very cool very modern apartment playing poker or something. They act like funny agents waiting for some action to begin. Greg Morris tries to cheat and Cinnamon catches him and Wally Cox has to chastise Martin Landau about something.
Plot
IMF team leader Dan Briggs (Stephen Hill) assembles his team for the first time. The mission: to recover two nuclear warheads belonging to General Rio Dominguez from a hotel vault in Santa Costa. Jim and Willy sneak safe-cracker Terry Targo into the vault, who figures out how to get out. The team then captures Dominguez but Targo's fingers are broken in the attempt. With no other alternative, Briggs has himself and Dominguez put into the vault, and Briggs threatens to enter a random combination if Alicio doesn't tell him the code. Dominguez breaks. With the bombs defused, Willy takes the warheads out of the vault. Briggs remains behind and uses the information Targo gathered earlier to get out during a fireworks distraction set off by Barney. Briggs and the rest of the team make a desperate race for safety and get onto a plane heading to safety seconds before the military can catch up to them.
Dan Briggs apparently rejoins the Impossible Missions Force after some sort of sabbatical. His recorded instructions include the words, "Welcome back, Dan. It's been some time."

Okay a really stupid ending to Hawaii Five-O. A defendant on trial kidnaps and holds the young child of one of the jurors. Of course, McGarrett finds the child and pops into the courtroom just as the foreperson is about to announce they are still hung. So the dad - the one holdout on convicting the dastardly defendant - sees his daughter is free, whispers to the foreman and voila they have a verdict of conviction. Puleeze.
Oh well, It's just Tinsel Town, Jake. Forget it.

I'm not into Hawaii Five-0. My mother watched it and I didn't like Jack Lord (and his hair). She also watched Mannix which didn't bother me.

RIP.

This is Warner Brothers Month on TCM! (It's their 100th anniversary, and of course TCM and WB share ownership.) All WB, all the time.

I had the same issue with Hawaii Five-0 because I didn't like McGarrett cause he seemed arrogant so I didn't watch many of them. But now watching them I realize they have some very good stories and McGarrett just kind of fades into the background. I am enjoying 77 Sunset Strip the least.

I knew I recognized her. Sharon Hugueny is on Hawaiian Eye. I did a quick check and found a sordid story of her marrying Robert Evans. He really was a creep.
[quote] While filming Parrish (1961) in 1961, actor (later, producer-and-president of Paramount) Mr. Robert Evans visited her set and was immediately bedazzled by breathtaking Sharon, whose dark beauty earned frequent comparisons by Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons to Elizabeth Taylor. Evans' feeling for Sharon was reciprocated; and so, seventeen-year-old Sharon began dating the thirty-one-year-old Evans, much to the dismay of her parents, friends, and studio. Within weeks, the two became engaged and then, on May 28, 1961, married. Unfortunately, their union was doomed from the start. Sharon was, by all accounts, extremely mature for her age; yet Evans seemed to regard her as a child, not as a wife. Their relationship deteriorated. At one time, Mr. Evans abandoned California for his clothing business, "Evan Picone", located in New York, which effectively broke her motion picture and television contract with Warner Bros. This uprooting had taken Sharon thousands of miles from her family, work, and friends; furthermore, Warner Brothers placed her on suspension. (Evans later said that "taking Sharon to New York was like forcing a Persian cat into the Amazon"). In Mexico, less than six months after they married, he arranged for a quick, no alimony, divorce, which confused his naive wife.
[quote] Sharon's career, unfortunately, never recovered. She would become one of many fine actresses of the 1960s who possessed great beauty and tremendous talent but were not provided with good-quality material to showcase their assets. . . There followed a marriage to photographer Raymond Ross in 1968, a child, and a divorce in 1974. By 1976, she was under new management and married to Gordon Cornell Layne, founder of "Mid-America Pictures".
[quote] Sharon was en route to ABC to sign two contracts when a new tragedy intervened: Sharon was struck by a speeding police car, doing 90 mph in pursuit of a fleeing drug addict. Not only did this end Sharon's career, it very nearly ended her life. Still seeking recovery, she and Mr. Layne left Santa Monica for Lake Arrowhead, in 1987. After nineteen years under Gordon's personal around-the-clock care, on July 3, 1996, Sharon Elizabeth Hugueny Layne died at home, from misdiagnosed cancer.
She really was beautiful. She's playing a blind woman pretending she saw a murder to trap the guy into confessing.

Tried to post earlier that Carroll O'Connor was on MI playing a corrupt foreign prosecutor trying to take over the government.
His accent very effectively disguises his regular voice. I laughed when the more honest deputy prime minister took the stand to testify disguised as Martin Landau, the defense attorney, and then rips his fake face off.

Oohhh Mission Impossible looks good tonight.
Somewhere behind the Iron Curtain is a replica of an American town. Agents are trained there. The IM force is sent in to halt a plan to use the unwitting agents as carriers of a deadly plague, and to bring down the man who has organized it.
Arthur Hill plays the American working for the Russians heading up the Russian mission. And George Takei plays one of the MI agents sent into the replica town to stop the dastardly deed. Oh my someone is training them to do the Frug - Cinnamon looks fab. It's all so gear!

Hawaiian Eye tonight has Ruta Lee as the wife of a man who has hired a hit man to knock her off so he can marry his girlfriend. Well, Wife Ruta agrees to a divorce so now he has to somehow call off the planned hit.
Interesting tidbit about Ruta Lee - still alive at 87.
Born in Montreal child of Lithuanian immigrants who moved to LA in 1948. She went to Hollywood High and UCLA.
In 1976, Lee married Texas restaurant executive Webster B. "Webb" Lowe Jr. They divided their time between their homes in Hollywood, Palm Springs, Fort Worth, and Mexico. Webb died July 1, 2020. They had no children. Lee describes her political views as "conservative" and she appeared at the 1972 Republican National Convention. On August 24, 2013, Lee was inducted into the National Lithuanian American Hall of Fame.
In February 2019, Lee had her Lithuanian citizenship restored.
In 1964, Lee called then-Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, asking him to pardon her grandmother Ludvise Kamandulis, who had been in an internment camp in Siberia since World War II. The pardon was granted, and Lee's grandmother came to live with her in California in 1964. Kamandulis died two years later. Lee again rescued a relative from the former Soviet Union when she secured custody of her 18-year-old cousin, Maryte Kaseta, from Lithuania in 1987.
Lee has been involved with the charitable organization The Thalians for over 50 years. In addition to raising money and providing services for troubled youth and mental-health organizations, Lee, who is also the board chairman, co-produced the annual Ball of the Thalians with the late Debbie Reynolds throughout these five decades. In 2011, after 55 years of involvement with The Thalians, she stepped down and is now a member emerita.
